In this paper, we consider the generalized Catalan numbers , which we call s-Catalan numbers. For p prime, we find all positive integers n such that pq divides F(pq,n), and also determine all distinct residues of , q?1. As a byproduct we settle a question of Hough and the late Simion on the divisibility of the 4-Catalan numbers by 4. In the second part of the paper we prove that if pq?99999, then is not squarefree for n?τ1(pq) sufficiently large (τ1(pq) computable). Moreover, using the results of the first part, we find n<τ1(pq) (in base p), for which may be squarefree. As consequences, we obtain that is squarefree only for n=1,3,45, and is squarefree only for n=1,4,10.  相似文献

A novel characterization of bar-and-joint framework rigidity was introduced in [A.Y. Alfakih. Graph rigidity via Euclidean distance matrices. Linear Algebra Appl., 310 (2000) 149-165; A.Y. Alfakih. On rigidity and realizability of weighted graphs. Linear Algebra Appl., 325 (2001) 57-70]. This characterization uses the notion of normal cones of convex sets to define a matrix whose rank determines whether or not a given generic framework is rigid. Furthermore, this characterization was derived under the assumption that the framework of interest G(p) has an equivalent framework G(q) in Rn-1, where n is the number of vertices of G(p). In this paper we show that the matrix corresponding to a framework G(p) contains the same information as the well-known rigidity matrix R. Whereas the entries of R are a function of the positions of the vertices of G(p), the entries of are a function of the Gale matrix corresponding to G(p). Furthermore, while the number of rows of R is equal to the number of edges of G(p), the number of columns of is equal to the number of missing edges of G(p). We also show that the assumption of the existence of an equivalent framework G(q) in Rn-1 can be dropped and we give the precise relation between the left-nullspaces, and consequently the nullspaces, of R and .  相似文献

Column and row operator spaces—which we denote by COL and ROW, respectively—over arbitrary Banach spaces were introduced by the first-named author; for Hilbert spaces, these definitions coincide with the usual ones. Given a locally compact group G and p,p′∈(1,∞) with , we use the operator space structure on to equip the Figà-Talamanca-Herz algebra Ap(G) with an operator space structure, turning it into a quantized Banach algebra. Moreover, we show that, for p?q?2 or 2?q?p and amenable G, the canonical inclusion Aq(G)⊂Ap(G) is completely bounded (with cb-norm at most , where is Grothendieck's constant). As an application, we show that G is amenable if and only if Ap(G) is operator amenable for all—and equivalently for one—p∈(1,∞); this extends a theorem by Ruan.  相似文献

Let G be a locally compact group and let p∈(1,∞). Let be any of the Banach spaces Cδ,p(G), PFp(G), Mp(G), APp(G), WAPp(G), UCp(G), PMp(G), of convolution operators on Lp(G). It is shown that PFp(G)′ can be isometrically embedded into UCp(G)′. The structure of maximal regular ideals of (and of MAp(G)″, Bp(G)″, Wp(G)″) is studied. Among other things it is shown that every maximal regular left (right, two sided) ideal in is either dense or is the annihilator of a unique element in the spectrum of Ap(G). Minimal ideals of is also studied. It is shown that a left ideal M in is minimal if and only if , where Ψ is either a right annihilator of or is a topologically x-invariant element (for some xG). Some results on minimal right ideals are also given.  相似文献

In this paper we study various fractal geometric aspects of the Minkowski question mark function Q. We show that the unit interval can be written as the union of the three sets , , and . The main result is that the Hausdorff dimensions of these sets are related in the following way:
dimH(νF)<dimH(Λ)=dimH(Λ)=dimH(L(htop))<dimH(Λ0)=1.  相似文献

Let G be a profinite group and q an indeterminate. In this paper, we introduce and study a q-analog of the Möbius function and the cyclotomic identity arising from the lattice of open subgroups of G. When q is any integer, we show that they have close connections with the functors , , and introduced in [Y.-T. Oh, q-Deformation of Witt-Burnside rings, Math. Z. 257 (2007) 151-191]. In particular, we interpret the multiplicative property of the inverse of the table of marks and the Möbius function of G as a composition property of certain functors. Classification of , , and up to strict natural isomorphism as q varies over the set of integers and its application will be dealt with, too.  相似文献

For every positive integer n, the quantum integer [n]q is the polynomial [n]q=1+q+q2+?+qn-1. A quadratic addition rule for quantum integers consists of sequences of polynomials , , and such that for all m and n. This paper gives a complete classification of quadratic addition rules, and also considers sequences of polynomials that satisfy the associated functional equation .  相似文献

A set of the form , where is convex and denotes the integer lattice, is called a convex lattice set. It is known that the Helly number of d-dimensional convex lattice sets is 2d. We prove that the fractional Helly number is only d+1: For every d and every α∈(0,1] there exists β>0 such that whenever F1,…,Fn are convex lattice sets in such that for at least index sets I⊆{1,2,…,n} of size d+1, then there exists a (lattice) point common to at least βn of the Fi. This implies a (p,d+1)-theorem for every p?d+1; that is, if is a finite family of convex lattice sets in such that among every p sets of , some d+1 intersect, then has a transversal of size bounded by a function of d and p.  相似文献

Wendt's determinant of order n is the circulant determinant Wn whose (i,j)-th entry is the binomial coefficient , for 1?i,j?n, where n is a positive integer. We establish some congruence relations satisfied by these rational integers. Thus, if p is a prime number and k a positive integer, then and . If q is another prime, distinct from p, and h any positive integer, then . Furthermore, if p is odd, then . In particular, if p?5, then . Also, if m and n are relatively prime positive integers, then WmWn divides Wmn.  相似文献

Let 1<p?2 and q be such that . It is well known that the norm of the Lp-Fourier transform of the additive group is , where . For a nilpotent Lie group G, we obtain the estimate , where m is the maximal dimension of the coadjoint orbits. Such a result was known only for some particular cases.  相似文献

Using Du’s characterization of the dual canonical basis of the coordinate ring O(GL(n,C)), we express all elements of this basis in terms of immanants. We then give a new factorization of permutations w avoiding the patterns 3412 and 4231, which in turn yields a factorization of the corresponding Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements of the Hecke algebra Hn(q). Using the immanant and factorization results, we show that for every totally nonnegative immanant and its expansion with respect to the basis of Kazhdan-Lusztig immanants, the coefficient dw must be nonnegative when w avoids the patterns 3412 and 4231.  相似文献

Let be the polynomial whose zeros are the j-invariants of supersingular elliptic curves over . Generalizing a construction of Atkin described in a recent paper by Kaneko and Zagier (Computational Perspectives on Number Theory (Chicago, IL, 1995), AMS/IP 7 (1998) 97-126), we define an inner product on for every . Suppose a system of orthogonal polynomials {Pn,ψ(x)}n=0 with respect to exists. We prove that if n is sufficiently large and ψ(x)Pn,ψ(x) is p-integral, then over . Further, we obtain an interpretation of these orthogonal polynomials as a p-adic limit of polynomials associated to p-adic modular forms.  相似文献

We develop a duality theory for localizations in the context of ring spectra in algebraic topology. We apply this to prove a theorem in the modular representation theory of finite groups.Let G be a finite group and k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p. If p is a homogeneous nonmaximal prime ideal in H(G,k), then there is an idempotent module κp which picks out the layer of the stable module category corresponding to p, and which was used by Benson, Carlson and Rickard [D.J. Benson, J.F. Carlson, J. Rickard, Thick subcategories of the stable module category, Fund. Math. 153 (1997) 59-80] in their development of varieties for infinitely generated kG-modules. Our main theorem states that the Tate cohomology is a shift of the injective hull of H(G,k)/p as a graded H(G,k)-module. Since κp can be constructed using a version of the stable Koszul complex, this can be viewed as a statement of localized Gorenstein duality in modular representation theory. Various consequences of this theorem are given, including the statement that the stable endomorphism ring of the module κp is the p-completion of cohomology , and the statement that κp is a pure injective kG-module.In the course of proving the theorem, we further develop the framework introduced by Dwyer, Greenlees and Iyengar [W.G. Dwyer, J.P.C. Greenlees, S. Iyengar, Duality in algebra and topology, Adv. Math. 200 (2006) 357-402] for translating between the unbounded derived categories and . We also construct a functor to the full stable module category, which extends the usual functor and which preserves Tate cohomology. The main theorem is formulated and proved in , and then translated to and finally to .The main theorem in can be viewed as stating that a version of Gorenstein duality holds after localizing at a prime ideal in H(BG;k). This version of the theorem holds more generally for a compact Lie group satisfying a mild orientation condition. This duality lies behind the local cohomology spectral sequence of Greenlees and Lyubeznik for localizations of H(BG;k).In a companion paper [D.J. Benson, Idempotent kG-modules with injective cohomology, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 212 (7) (2008) 1744-1746], a more recent and shorter proof of the main theorem is given. The more recent proof seems less natural, and does not say anything about localization of the Gorenstein condition for compact Lie groups.  相似文献

Let be the absolute Galois group of Q and let A=C(G,C) be the Banach algebra of all continuous functions defined on G with values in C. Let be the conjugation automorphism of C and let B be the R-Banach subalgebra of A consisting of continuous functions f such that for all σG. Let ‖x‖=sup{|σ(x)|:σG} be the spectral norm on and let be the spectral completion of . Using a canonical isometry between and B we study the structure of the group of R-algebras automorphisms of and the structure of its subgroup of all automorphisms of which when restricted to give rise to elements of G. We introduce a topology on and prove that this last one is homeomorphic and group isomorphic to G.  相似文献
