We study the statistical laws of the expenditure of a person in convenience stores by analyzing around 100 million receipts. The density function of expenditure exhibits a fat tail that follows a power law. Using the Lorenz curve, the Gini coefficient is estimated to be 0.70; this implies that loyal customers contribute significantly to a store’s sales. We observe the Pareto principle where both the top 25% and 2% of the customers account for 80% and 25% of the store’s sales, respectively.  相似文献

In this paper we derive an accurate composite friction factor vs. Reynolds number correlation formula for laminar, transition and turbulent flow in smooth pipes. The correlation is given as a rational fraction of rational fractions of power laws which is systematically generated by smoothly connecting linear splines in log-log coordinates with a logistic dose curve algorithm. This kind of correlation seeks the most accurate representation of the data independent of any input from theories arising from the researchers’ ideas about the underlying fluid mechanics. As such, these correlations provide an objective metric against which observations and other theoretical correlations may be applied. Our correlation is as accurate, or more accurate, than other correlations in the range of Reynolds numbers in which the correlations overlap. However, our formula is not restricted to certain ranges of Reynolds numbers but instead applies uniformly to all smooth pipe flow data for which data is available. The properties of the classical logistic dose response curve are reviewed and extended to problems described by multiple branches of power laws. This extended method of fitting which leads to rational fractions of power laws is applied to data of Marusic and Perry (1995) [1] for the velocity profile in a boundary layer on a flat plate with an adverse pressure gradient, to data of Nikuradse (1932) [2] and McKeon et al. (2004) [3] on friction factors for flow in smooth pipes and to the data of Nikuradse [4] for effectively smooth pipes.  相似文献

The scaling laws are given for the entropies in the information theory, including the Shannon's entropy, its power, the Fisher's information and the Fisher–Shannon product, using the exponential-cosine screened Coulomb potential. The scaling laws are specified, in the r-space, as a function of |μ ? μc, n?|, where μ is the screening parameter and μc, n? its critical value for the specific quantum numbers n and ?. Scaling laws for other physical quantities, such as energy eigenvalues, the moments, static polarisability, transition probabilities, etc. are also given. Some of these are reported for the first time. The outcome is compared with the available literatures’ results.  相似文献

A generalization of the Rayleigh law of a low-frequency sound attenuation in a microinhomogeneous medium to the case of scattering particles moving in a viscous liquid at a large Reynolds numbers is proposed. It is shown that, under these conditions, the attenuation may be independent of the scattering by the moving particles themselves but be only determined by the flow caused by these particles, the maximum attenuation being observed in the direction across the particle motion. The corresponding corrections proportional to the first power of the hydrodynamic Mach number are compared with the corrections lying at the basis of the modified Rayleigh law, which was proposed earlier for the potential flow of an ideal liquid around inhomogeneities, and also with the laws of scattering in a moving viscous microinhomogeneous medium at a small Reynolds numbers. As an example of the operation of the generalized law, characteristics of the sound scattering by rain are refined.  相似文献

A two-dimensional hydrodynamic model is employed to analyze the characteristics of crystal growth from solution with only the variation of the solution density caused by the temperature change taken into account. In that case all the characteristics of the solution system only depend on three numbers: the Rayleigh number Ra, the Prandtl number Pr and the Schemidt number Sc. In certain regions of the parameter (Ra, Pr and Sc) spaces, some scaling laws are generated: the scales of the temperature distribution index Sθ, the concentration distribution index Sø (see text), the fluid velocity and the growth rate of crystal are given by power functions of Ra, Pr and Sc. The effects of the geometrical shape and the boundary condition of the solution system on the scaling laws are studied. When the ratio X of the height to the length of the solution system changes, the scaling laws are still valid and only the coefficients of power functions are changed, which are also power functions of A. The scaling laws are valid both under the isothermal temperature boundary condition and the adiabatic boundary condition at the surfaces of the top and the bottom sides of the solution system. The only difference is that the ratio of Sθ to Ra is greater for the latter than for the former. In certain ranges of Ra, there are no differences between the other power functions for the two cases.  相似文献

We study by theoretical analysis and by direct numerical simulation the dynamics of a wide class of asynchronous stochastic systems composed of many autocatalytic degrees of freedom. We describe the generic emergence of truncated power laws in the size distribution of their individual elements. The exponents α of these power laws are time independent and depend only on the way the elements with very small values are treated. These truncated power laws determine the collective time evolution of the system. In particular the global stochastic fluctuations of the system differ from the normal Gaussian noise according to the time and size scales at which these fluctuations are considered. We describe the ranges in which these fluctuations are parameterized respectively by: the Lévy regime α < 2, the power law decay with large exponent ( α > 2), and the exponential decay. Finally we relate these results to the large exponent power laws found in the actual behavior of the stock markets and to the exponential cut-off detected in certain recent measurement. The assumption of a discrete space-time is expressed mathematically by restricting the space-time variables to the field of integer numbers, and by restricting to the field of rational numbers the functions describing the laws of motion. This rational character must be preserved under the transformations connecting different systems of reference. The Cayley parametrization of semisimple Lie groups, and in particular of the Lorentz group, satisfies this condition if we require these parameters to take only integer values. The rational points of the most frequently used transcendental functions are obtained with the help of the integer complex and hypercomplex numbers. Some applications are made concerning the laws of motion in special relativity defined over a (3+1)-dimensional cubic lattice.  相似文献

应用去趋势波动分析法,对电子商务中人类网上购物行为进行研究,首次探讨了人类浏览及购买行为时间序列(数量波动)标度律.首先,研究发现人类网上购物行为呈现出明显的周期性,其时间序列的概率密度函数具有显著的双模态特征.其次,利用傅里叶变换方法分析浏览以及购买行为时间序列的功率谱,发现其演化过程不同于无关联的泊松过程.最后,基于功率谱过滤周期性趋势的影响,对去除周期趋势后的浏览和购买行为时间序列进行去趋势波动分析,发现其标度行为表明其具有较强的长程关联特性,且平均标度值近似为1,表明其具有自组织临界性.实证研究结果与其他领域如因特网交通流和金融市场价格波动的标度行为相似,有助于理解人类活动如何影响电子商务系统演化和提高在线商务活动效率,对分析电子商务中人类行为活动的机制和预测其波动趋势具有重要的启示作用.  相似文献

We study the precursory and recovery signatures accompanying shocks in complex networks, that we test on a unique database of the Amazon.com ranking of book sales. We find clear distinguishing signatures classifying two types of sales peaks. Exogenous peaks occur abruptly and are followed by a power law relaxation, while endogenous peaks occur after a progressively accelerating power law growth followed by an approximately symmetrical power law relaxation which is slower than for exogenous peaks. These results are rationalized quantitatively by a simple model of epidemic propagation of interactions with long memory within a network of acquaintances. The observed relaxation of sales implies that the sales dynamics is dominated by cascades rather than by the direct effects of news or advertisements, indicating that the social network is close to critical.  相似文献

The quantum limit behaviour of the magnetoresistance in narrow-gap semiconductors is investigated. The non-parabolicity of the energy dispersion is taken into account in the density of states. Assuming constant level broadening, both the longitudinal and the transverse magnetoresistance obey asymptotic power laws. The exponents in these power laws are found to be larger than in the case of parabolic energy dispersion.  相似文献

介绍渐进多焦点眼用镜片的构造,论述镜片的设计思想,阐述渐进多焦点眼用镜片子午线设计的基本原理,构建子午线多项式,给出子午线设计需满足的准则.在子午线设计的基础上,设计渐进多焦点眼用镜片等屈光度轮廓线,确定镜片面形,并求出镜片平均球面度与像散.比较3种不同子午线设计的渐进多焦点眼用镜片,并进行实际加工与检测.研究结果表明,子午线设计是渐进多焦点眼用镜片设计的关键之一,不同的子午线屈光度分布,对应的渐进多焦点眼用镜片的球面度、像散以及畸变等差别较大.依据实际设计与检测结果,给出适用于不同个性化需求的渐进多焦点眼用镜片子午线屈光度分布的规律.  相似文献

In this paper we propose a model based on the Boltzmann distribution as a mechanism for generating power laws, Boltzmann Power Laws (BPL). Some of these power laws are studied and compared to popular power laws such as ‘1/f’ noise and self-organized criticality (SOC). We will show how, in some cases, these BPLs reproduce behaviors similar to the finite size scaling (FSS) scenario, which is typical of SOC.  相似文献

Classical decay laws of isotropic turbulence usually derived from the von Kármán–Howarth equation are essentially based on two paradigms. First, scaling symmetries of space and time, both tracing back to the Navier–Stokes equations in the limit of large Reynolds numbers (or r?η), give rise to a temporal power-law decay for the turbulent kinetic energy and at the same time an algebraic growth of the integral length scale at an exponent that is uniquely coupled to the latter energy decay. Second, global invariants such as Birkhoff or Loitsianskii integrals determine the exponent of both power laws. We presently show that this class of decay laws may be considerably extended considering the entire set of multi-point correlation equations that admit a much wider class of symmetries. It was recently shown that these new symmetries are of paramount importance, e.g. in deriving the logarithmic law of the wall being an analytic solution of the multi-point equations. For the present case, it is particularly an additional scaling group, which we call statistical scaling group, that gives rise to two additional families of ‘canonical’ decay laws including those with an exponential characteristic for both the kinetic energy and the integral length scale. Finally, a second rather generic group admitted by all linear differential equations corresponding to the superposition principle induces an infinite set of scaling laws of rather complex form that may match rather generic initial conditions. All scaling laws are analyzed in the light of the above-mentioned integral invariants that have been further extended in the present contribution to an exponential-type invariant.  相似文献

The growth and dynamics of solid surfaces displays a multitude of power law relationships, which are often associated with geometric self-similarity. In many cases the mechanisms behind these power laws are comparatively trivial, and require little more than dimensional analysis for their derivation. The information of interest to surface physicists then resides in the prefactors. This point will be illustrated by recent experimental and theoretical work on the growth-induced roughening of thin films and step fluctuations on vicinal surfaces. The conventional distinction between trivial and nontrivial power laws will be critically examined in general, and specifically in the context of persistence of step fluctuations.  相似文献

We empirically investigate the firm growth model proposed by Buldyrev et al. by using a unique dataset that contains the daily sales of more than 200 thousand products, which are collected from about 200 supermarkets in Japan over the last 20 years. We find that the empirical firm growth distribution is characterized by a Laplace distribution at the center and power-law at the tails, as predicted by the model. However, some of these characteristics disappear once we randomly reshuffle products across firms, implying that the shape of the empirical distribution is not produced as described by the model. Our simulation results suggest that the shape of the empirical distribution stems mainly from the presence of relationship between the size of a product and its growth rate.  相似文献

We report the observation of intermittency in gravity-capillary wave turbulence on the surface of mercury. We measure the temporal fluctuations of surface wave amplitude at a given location. We show that the shape of the probability density function of the local slope increments of the surface waves strongly changes across the time scales. The related structure functions and the flatness are found to be power laws of the time scale on more than one decade. The exponents of these power laws increase nonlinearly with the order of the structure function. All these observations show the intermittent nature of the increments of the local slope in wave turbulence. We discuss the possible origin of this intermittency.  相似文献

The Rayleigh-Bénard theory by Grossmann and Lohse [J. Fluid Mech. 407, 27 (2000)] is extended towards very large Prandtl numbers Pr. The Nusselt number Nu is found here to be independent of Pr. However, for fixed Rayleigh numbers Ra a maximum in the Nu(Pr) dependence is predicted. We moreover offer the full functional dependences of Nu(Ra,Pr) and Re(Ra,Pr) within this extended theory, rather than only give the limiting power laws as done in J. Fluid. Mech. 407, 27 (2000). With increasing global demand for food, international food trade is playing a critical role in balancing the food supply and demand across different regions. Here, using trade datasets of four crops that provide more than 50% of the calories consumed globally, we constructed four international crop trade networks (iCTNs). We observed the increasing globalization in the international crop trade and different trade patterns in different iCTNs. The distributions of node degrees deviate from power laws, and the distributions of link weights follow power laws. We also found that the in-degree is positively correlated with the out-degree, but negatively correlated with the clustering coefficient. This indicates that the numbers of trade partners affect the tendency of economies to form clusters. In addition, each iCTN exhibits a unique topology which is different from the whole food network studied by many researchers. Our analysis on the microstructural characteristics of different iCTNs provides highly valuable insights into distinctive features of specific crop trades and has potential implications for model construction and food security.  相似文献
