A well-known property of an M-matrix M is that the inverse is element-wise non-negative, which we write as M-1?0. In this paper, we consider element-wise perturbations of non-symmetric tridiagonal M-matrices and obtain sufficient bounds on the perturbations so that the non-negative inverse persists. These bounds improve the bounds recently given by Kennedy and Haynes [Inverse positivity of perturbed tridiagonal M-matrices, Linear Algebra Appl. 430 (2009) 2312-2323]. In particular, when perturbing the second diagonals (elements (l,l+2) and (l,l-2)) of M, these sufficient bounds are shown to be the actual maximum allowable perturbations. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of our estimates.  相似文献

Summary We obtain explicit formulas for the entries of the inverse of a nonsingular and irreducible tridiagonal k–Toeplitz matrix A. The proof is based on results from the theory of orthogonal polynomials and it is shown that the entries of the inverse of such a matrix are given in terms of Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. We also compute the characteristic polynomial of A which enables us to state some conditions for the existence of A–1. Our results also extend known results for the case when the residue mod k of the order of A is equal to 0 or k–1 (Numer. Math., 10 (1967), pp. 153–161.).The work was supported by CMUC (Centro de Matemática da Universidade de Coimbra) and by Acção Integrada Luso-Espanhola E-6/03  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the Drazin inverse of a sum of two matrices and derive additive formulas under conditions weaker than those used in some recent papers on the subject. As a corollary we get the main results from the paper of Yang and Liu [H. Yang, X. Liu, The Drazin inverse of the sum of two matrices and its applications, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 235 (2011) 1412-1417]. As an application we give some new representations for the Drazin inverse of a block matrix.  相似文献

Let be a partitioned matrix, where A and D are square matrices. Denote the Drazin inverse of A by AD. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, we develop conditions under which the Drazin inverse of M having generalized Schur complement, S=D-CADB, group invertible, can be expressed in terms of a matrix in the Banachiewicz-Schur form and its powers. Secondly, we deal with partitioned matrices satisfying rank(M)=rank(AD)+rank(SD), and give conditions under which the group inverse of M exists and a formula for its computation.  相似文献

An essential part of Cegielski’s [Obtuse cones and Gram matrices with non-negative inverse, Linear Algebra Appl. 335 (2001) 167-181] considerations of some properties of Gram matrices with nonnegative inverses, which are pointed out to be crucial in constructing obtuse cones, consists in developing some particular formulae for the Moore-Penrose inverse of a columnwise partitioned matrix A = (A1 : A2) under the assumption that it is of full column rank. In the present paper, these results are generalized and extended. The generalization consists in weakening the assumption mentioned above to the requirement that the ranges of A1 and A2 are disjoint, while the extension consists in introducing the conditions referring to the class of all generalized inverses of A.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate additive properties of the generalized Drazin inverse in a Banach algebra. We find some new conditions under which the generalized Drazin inverse of the sum a + b could be explicitly expressed in terms of a, ad, b, bd. Also, some recent results of Castro and Koliha [New additive results for the g-Drazin inverse, Proc. Roy. Soc. Edinburgh Sect. A 134 (2004) 1085-1097] are extended.  相似文献

The weighted least-squares solutions of coupled singular matrix equations are too difficult to obtain by applying matrices decomposition. In this paper, a family of algorithms are applied to solve these problems based on the Kronecker structures. Subsequently, we construct a computationally efficient solutions of coupled restricted singular matrix equations. Furthermore, the need to compute the weighted Drazin and weighted Moore–Penrose inverses; and the use of Tian's work and Lev-Ari's results are due to appearance in the solutions of these problems. The several special cases of these problems are also considered which includes the well-known coupled Sylvester matrix equations. Finally, we recover the iterative methods to the weighted case in order to obtain the minimum D-norm G-vector least-squares solutions for the coupled Sylvester matrix equations and the results lead to the least-squares solutions and invertible solutions, as a special case.  相似文献

Using Riordan arrays, we introduce a generalized Delannoy matrix by weighted Delannoy numbers. It turns out that Delannoy matrix, Pascal matrix, and Fibonacci matrix are all special cases of the generalized Delannoy matrices, meanwhile Schröder matrix and Catalan matrix also arise in involving inverses of the generalized Delannoy matrices. These connections are the focus of our paper. The half of generalized Delannoy matrix is also considered. In addition, we obtain a combinatorial interpretation for the generalized Fibonacci numbers.  相似文献

Let T be a tree with n vertices and let D be the distance matrix of T. According to a classical result due to Graham and Pollack, the determinant of D is a function of n, but does not depend on T. We allow the edges of T to carry weights, which are square matrices of a fixed order. The distance matrix D of T is then defined in a natural way. We obtain a formula for the determinant of D, which involves only the determinants of the sum and the product of the weight matrices.  相似文献

The period and base of a reducible sign pattern matrix   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

A square sign pattern matrix A (whose entries are ) is said to be powerful if all the powers A,A2,A3,…, are unambiguously defined. For a powerful pattern A, if Al=Al+p with l and p minimal, then l is called the base of A and p is called the period of Li et al. [On the period and base of a sign pattern matrix, Linear Algebra Appl. 212/213 (1994) 101-120] characterized irreducible powerful sign pattern matrices. In this paper, we characterize reducible, powerful sign pattern matrices and give some new results on the period and base of a powerful sign pattern matrix.  相似文献

In this study, some upper and lower bounds for singular values of a general complex matrix are investigated, according to singularity and Wielandt’s lemma of matrices. Especially, some relationships between the singular values of the matrix A and its block norm matrix are established. Based on these relationships, one may obtain the effective estimates for the singular values of large matrices by using the lower dimension norm matrices. In addition, a small error in Piazza (2002) [G. Piazza, T. Politi, An upper bound for the condition number of a matrix in spectral norm, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 143 (1) (2002) 141-144] is also corrected. Some numerical experiments on saddle point problems show that these results are simple and sharp under suitable conditions.  相似文献

We obtain the optimal perturbation bounds of the Moore-Penrose inverse under the Frobenius norm by using Singular Value Decomposition, which improved the results in the earlier paper [P.-Å. Wedin, Perturbation theory for pseudo-inverses, BIT 13 (1973) 217-232]. In addition, a perturbation bound of the Moore-Penrose inverse under the Frobenius norm in the case of the multiplicative perturbation model is also given.  相似文献

Starting from the Strassen method for rapid matrix multiplication and inversion as well as from the recursive Cholesky factorization algorithm, we introduced a completely block recursive algorithm for generalized Cholesky factorization of a given symmetric, positive semi-definite matrix A∈Rn×nARn×n. We used the Strassen method for matrix inversion together with the recursive generalized Cholesky factorization method, and established an algorithm for computing generalized {2,3}{2,3} and {2,4}{2,4} inverses. Introduced algorithms are not harder than the matrix–matrix multiplication.  相似文献

Given complex-valued matrices A, B and C of appropriate dimensions, this paper investigates certain invariance properties of the product AXC with respect to the choice of X, where X is a generalized inverse of B. Different types of generalized inverses are taken into account. The purpose of the paper is three-fold: First, to review known results scattered in the literature, second, to demonstrate the connection between invariance properties and the concept of extremal ranks of matrices, and third, to add new results related to the topic.  相似文献
