In this paper we use the standard formula for the Laplacian of the squared norm of the second fundamental form and the asymptotic maximum principle of H. Omori and S.T. Yau to classify complete CMC spacelike hypersurfaces of a Lorentz ambient space of nonnegative constant sectional curvature, under appropriate bounds on the scalar curvature.  相似文献

We consider a bipartite distance-regular graph Γ with diameter D?4, valency k?3, intersection numbers bi,ci, distance matrices Ai, and eigenvalues θ0>θ1>?>θD. Let X denote the vertex set of Γ and fix xX. Let T=T(x) denote the subalgebra of MatX(C) generated by , where A=A1 and denotes the projection onto the ith subconstituent of Γ with respect to x. T is called the subconstituent algebra (or Terwilliger algebra) of Γ with respect to x. An irreducible T-module W is said to be thin whenever for 0?i?D. By the endpoint of W we mean . Assume W is thin with endpoint 2. Observe is a one-dimensional eigenspace for ; let η denote the corresponding eigenvalue. It is known where , and d=⌊D/2⌋. To describe the structure of W we distinguish four cases: (i) ; (ii) D is odd and ; (iii) D is even and ; (iv) . We investigated cases (i), (ii) in MacLean and Terwilliger [Taut distance-regular graphs and the subconstituent algebra, Discrete Math. 306 (2006) 1694-1721]. Here we investigate cases (iii), (iv) and obtain the following results. We show the dimension of W is D-1-e where e=1 in case (iii) and e=0 in case (iv). Let v denote a nonzero vector in . We show W has a basis , where Ei denotes the primitive idempotent of A associated with θi and where the set S is {1,2,…,d-1}∪{d+1,d+2,…,D-1} in case (iii) and {1,2,…,D-1} in case (iv). We show this basis is orthogonal (with respect to the Hermitian dot product) and we compute the square-norm of each basis vector. We show W has a basis , and we find the matrix representing A with respect to this basis. We show this basis is orthogonal and we compute the square-norm of each basis vector. In this paper, we consider the signless Laplacians of simple graphs and we give some eigenvalue inequalities. We first consider an interlacing theorem when a vertex is deleted. In particular, let G-v be a graph obtained from graph G by deleting its vertex v and κi(G) be the ith largest eigenvalue of the signless Laplacian of G, we show that κi+1(G)-1?κi(G-v)?κi(G). Next, we consider the third largest eigenvalue κ3(G) and we give a lower bound in terms of the third largest degree d3 of the graph G. In particular, we prove that . Furthermore, we show that in several situations the latter bound can be increased to d3-1.  相似文献

Given a generalized Robertson-Walker spacetime whose warping function verifies a certain convexity condition, we classify strongly stable spacelike hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature. More precisely, we will show that given a closed, strongly stable spacelike hypersurface of with constant mean curvature H, if the warping function ? satisfying ??max{H?,0} along M, then Mn is either maximal or a spacelike slice Mt0={t0F, for some t0I.  相似文献

We investigate constant mean curvature complete vertical graphs in a warped product, which is supposed to satisfy an appropriated convergence condition. In this setting, under suitable restrictions on the values of the mean curvature and the norm of the gradient of the height function, we obtain rigidity theorems concerning to such graphs. The aim of this paper is to study the uniqueness of complete hypersurfaces immersed in a semi-Riemannian warped product whose warping function has convex logarithm and such that its fiber has constant sectional curvature. By using as main analytical tool a suitable maximum principle for complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds and supposing a natural comparison inequality between the r-th mean curvatures of the hypersurface and that ones of the slices of the region where the hypersurface is contained, we are able to prove that a such hypersurface must be, in fact, a slice.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the algebraic connectivity α(T) of a tree T. We introduce six Classes (C1)-(C6) of trees of order n, and prove that if T is a tree of order n?15, then if and only if , where the equality holds if and only if T is a tree in the Class (C6). At the same time we give a complete ordering of the trees in these six classes by their algebraic connectivity. In particular, we show that α(Ti)>α(Tj) if 1?i<j?6 and Ti is any tree in the Class (Ci) and Tj is any tree in the Class (Cj). We also give the values of the algebraic connectivity of the trees in these six classes. As a technique used in the proofs of the above mentioned results, we also give a complete characterization of the equality case of a well-known relation between the algebraic connectivity of a tree T and the Perron value of the bottleneck matrix of a Perron branch of T.  相似文献

Let G be a connected graph with Colin de Verdière number μ(G). We study the behaviour of μ with respect to the Cartesian product of graphs. We conjecture that if G=G1G2, with G1,G2 connected, then μ(G)?μ(G1)+μ(G2) and prove that μ(G)?μ(G1)+h(G2)-1, where h is the Hadwiger number (i.e. the order of the largest clique minor). In addition we provide an explicit construction of a Colin de Verdière matrix with corank μ(G1)+μ(Kn) for the graph G=G1Kn.  相似文献

We study the synthetic geometry of the pants graph of the 5-holed sphere, establishing the existence of geodesics connecting any vertex or ideal point to any ideal point. We prove the existence of geodesic axes for sufficiently high powers of any pseudo-Anosov mapping class, and that large link hierarchies from Harvey?s curve graph all induce geodesic paths.  相似文献

In this paper we continue the study started in Hersonsky (in press) [16]. We consider a planar, bounded, m-connected region Ω, and let ∂Ω be its boundary. Let T be a cellular decomposition of Ω∪∂Ω, where each 2-cell is either a triangle or a quadrilateral. From these data and a conductance function we construct a canonical pair (S,f) where S is a special type of a (possibly immersed) genus (m−1)singular flat surface, tiled by rectangles and f is an energy preserving mapping from T(1) onto S. In Hersonsky (in press) [16] the solution of a Dirichlet problem defined on T(0) was utilized, in this paper we employ the solution of a mixed Dirichlet-Neumann problem.  相似文献

We construct and study orthogonal bases of generalized polynomials on the space of Hermitian matrices. They are obtained by the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization process from the Schur polynomials. A Berezin-Karpelevich type formula is given for these multivariate polynomials. The normalization of the orthogonal polynomials of Hermitian matrix argument and expansions in such polynomials are investigated.  相似文献

Conjecturally, the parity of the Mordell-Weil rank of an elliptic curve over a number field K is determined by its root number. The root number is a product of local root numbers, so the rank modulo 2 is (conjecturally) the sum over all places of K of a function of elliptic curves over local fields. This note shows that there can be no analogue for the rank modulo 3, 4 or 5, or for the rank itself. In fact, standard conjectures for elliptic curves imply that there is no analogue modulo n for any n>2, so this is purely a parity phenomenon.  相似文献

Let X be a compactum and G an upper semi-continuous decomposition of X such that each element of G is the continuous image of an ordered compactum. If the quotient space X/G is the continuous image of an ordered compactum, under what conditions is X also the continuous image of an ordered compactum? Examples around the (non-metric) Hahn-Mazurkiewicz Theorem show that one must place severe conditions on G if one wishes to obtain positive results. We prove that the compactum X is the image of an ordered compactum when each gG has 0-dimensional boundary. We also consider the case when G has only countably many non-degenerate elements. These results extend earlier work of the first named author in a number of ways.  相似文献
