We report the first evidence for the decay Sigma(+)-->pmu(+)mu(-) from data taken by the HyperCP (E871) experiment at Fermilab. Based on three observed events, the branching ratio is B(Sigma(+)-->pmu(+)mu(-))=[8.6(+6.6)(-5.4)(stat)+/-5.5(syst)]x10(-8). The narrow range of dimuon masses may indicate that the decay proceeds via a neutral intermediate state, Sigma(+)-->pP(0),P0-->mu(+)mu(-) with a P0 mass of 214.3+/-0.5 MeV/c(2) and branching ratio B(Sigma(+)-->pP(0),P0-->mu(+)mu(-))=[3.1(+2.4)(-1.9)(stat)+/-1.5(syst)]x10(-8).  相似文献

We show that a large contribution to the inertial mass of the Abrikosov vortex comes from transversal displacements of the crystal lattice. The corresponding part of the mass per unit length of the vortex line is M(l)=(m(2)(e)c(2)/64 pi alpha(2)mu lambda(4)(L))ln((lambda(L)/xi), where m(e) is the bare electron mass, c is the speed of light, alpha=e(2)/Planck's over 2 pi c approximately 1/137 is the fine structure constant, mu is the shear modulus of the solid, lambda(L) is the London penetration length, and xi is the coherence length. In conventional superconductors, this mass can be comparable to or even greater than the vortex core mass computed by Suhl [Phys. Rev. Lett. 14, 226 (1965)]].  相似文献

We obtain the limit on the space-time variation of the ratio of the proton mass to the electron mass, mu=m(p)/m(e), based on comparison of quasar absorption spectra of NH3 with CO, HCO+ and HCN rotational spectra. For the inversion transition in NH3 (lambda approximately 1.25 cm(-1)) the relative frequency shift is significantly enhanced: deltaomega/omega=-4.46deltamu/mu. This enhancement allows one to increase sensitivity to the variation of mu using NH3 spectra for high redshift objects. We use published data on microwave spectra of the object B0218+357 to place the limit deltamu/mu=(0.6+/-1.9) x 10(-6) at redshift z=0.6847; this limit is several times better than the limits obtained by different methods and may be significantly improved. Assuming linear time dependence we obtain mu/mu=(-1+/-3) x 10(-16) yr(-1).  相似文献

Based on highly accurate laboratory measurements of Lyman bands of H2 and an updated representation of the structure of the ground X 1sigma(g)+ and excited B 1sigma(u)+ and C 1pi(u) states, a new set of sensitivity coefficients K(i) is derived for all lines in the H2 spectrum, representing the dependence of their transition wavelengths on a possible variation of the proton-electron mass ratio mu = m(p)/m(e). Included are local perturbation effects between B and C levels and adiabatic corrections. The new wavelengths and K(i) factors are used to compare with a recent set of highly accurate H2 spectral lines observed in the Q 0347-383 and Q 0405-443 quasars, yielding a fractional change in the mass ratio of deltamu/mu = (2.4 +/- 0.6) x 10(-5) for a weighted fit and deltamu/mu = (2.0 +/- 0.6) x 10(-5) for an unweighted fit. This result indicates, at a 3.5sigma confidence level, that mu could have decreased in the past 12 Gyr.  相似文献

The HyperCP Collaboration has observed three events for the decay Sigma+ -->p mu+mu- which may be interpreted as a new particle of mass 214.3 MeV. However, existing data from kaon and B-meson decays provide stringent constraints on the construction of models that support this interpretation. In this Letter we show that the "HyperCP particle" can be identified with the light pseudoscalar Higgs boson in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, the A10. In this model there are regions of parameter space where the A10 can satisfy all the existing constraints from kaon and B-meson decays and mediate Sigma+ -->p mu+mu- at a level consistent with the HyperCP observation.  相似文献

We present first results for (3 + 1)D simulations of SU(2) Yang-Mills equations for matter expanding into the vacuum after a heavy ion collision. Violations of boost invariance cause a non-Abelian Weibel instability leading soft modes to grow with proper time tau as exp(gamma square root(g2 mu tau)), where g2 mu is a scale arising from the saturation of gluons in the nuclear wave function. The scale for the growth rate gamma is set by a plasmon mass, defined as omega(pl) = kappa0 square root(g2 mu/tau)), generated dynamically in the collision. We compare the numerical ratio gamma/kappa0 to the corresponding value predicted by the hard thermal loop formalism for anisotropic plasmas.  相似文献

Transition wavelengths on a large set of H2 Lyman and Werner band spectral lines have been obtained at an accuracy of 5 x 10(-8), using a narrow band tunable extreme ultraviolet laser. The data are used to determine a constraint on a possible cosmological variation of the proton-to-electron mass ratio (mu=Mp/me) from a comparison with highly redshifted spectral data of quasistellar objects, yielding a fractional change in the mass ratio of Deltamu/mu=-0.5+/-3.6 x 10(-5) (2sigma), which would correspond to a temporal change of d/dt(Deltamu/mu)=-0.4+/-3.0 x 10(-15) per year (2sigma) if a linear cosmological expansion model is assumed.  相似文献

Over five years, we have compared the hyperfine frequencies of 133Cs and 87Rb atoms in their electronic ground state using several laser-cooled 133Cs and 87Rb atomic fountains with an accuracy of approximately 10(-15). These measurements set a stringent upper bound to a possible fractional time variation of the ratio between the two frequencies: d/dt ln([(nu(Rb))/(nu(Cs))]=(0.2+/-7.0)x 10(-16) yr(-1) (1sigma uncertainty). The same limit applies to a possible variation of the quantity (mu(Rb)/mu(Cs))alpha(-0.44), which involves the ratio of nuclear magnetic moments and the fine structure constant.  相似文献

We show that there exists a systematic expansion around four spatial dimensions for Fermi gas in the unitarity regime. We perform the calculations to leading and next-to-leading orders in the expansion over E = 4-d, where d is the dimensionality of space. We find the ratio of chemical potential and Fermi energy to be mu/epsilon(F) =1/2 (E 3/2) + 1/16 (E 5/2) lnE -0.0246E (5/2) + ... and the ratio of the gap in the fermion quasiparticle spectrum and the chemical potential to be Delta/mu =2E(-1) - 0.691 + ... . The minimum of the fermion dispersion curve is located at |p|=(2mepsilon(0))(1/2), where epsilon_(0)/mu=2+O(E). Extrapolation to d=3 gives results consistent with Monte Carlo simulations.  相似文献

We study the diameter, or the mean distance between sites, in a scale-free network, having N sites and degree distribution p(k) proportional, variant k(-lambda), i.e., the probability of having k links outgoing from a site. In contrast to the diameter of regular random networks or small-world networks, which is known to be d approximately ln(N, we show, using analytical arguments, that scale-free networks with 23, d approximately ln(N. We also show that, for any lambda>2, one can construct a deterministic scale-free network with d approximately ln(ln(N, which is the lowest possible diameter.  相似文献

Measurements of muon-catalyzed dt fusion ( d(mu)t-->4He + n + mu(-)) in solid HD have been performed. The theory describing the energy dependent resonant molecular formation rate for the reaction (mu)t + HD-->[(d(mu)t)pee](*) is compared to experimental results in a pure solid HD target. Constraints on the rates are inferred through the use of a Monte Carlo model developed specifically for the experiment. From the time-of-flight analysis of fusion events in 16 and 37 microg x cm(-2) targets, an average formation rate consistent with 0.897+/-(0.046)(stat)+/-(0.166)(syst) times the theoretical prediction was obtained.  相似文献

The scalar one-loop four-point function with one massless vertex is evaluated analytically by employing the loop regularization method. According to the method, a characteristic scale μ_s is introduced to regularize the divergent integrals. The infrared divergent parts, which take the form of ln~2(λ~2/μ_s~2)and ln(λ~2/μ_s~2)as μ_s→ 0 where λ is a constant and expressed in terms of masses and Mandelstam variables, and the infrared stable parts are well separated. The result is shown explicitly via 44 dilogarithms in the kinematic sector in which our evaluation is valid.  相似文献

For wave propagation at low frequencies in a porous medium, the Gassmann-Domenico relations are well-established for homogeneous partial saturation by a liquid. They provide the correct relations for seismic velocities in terms of constituent bulk and shear moduli, solid and fluid densities, porosity and saturation. It has not been possible, however, to invert these relations easily to determine porosity and saturation when the seismic velocities are known. Also, the state (or distribution) of saturation, i.e., whether or not liquid and gas are homogeneously mixed in the pore space, is another important variable for reservoir evaluation. A reliable ability to determine the state of saturation from velocity data continues to be problematic. It is shown how transforming compressional and shear wave velocity data to the (rho/lambda, mu/lambda)-plane (where lambda and mu are the Lame parameters and rho is the total density) results in a set of quasi-orthogonal coordinates for porosity and liquid saturation that greatly aids in the interpretation of seismic data for the physical parameters of most interest. A second transformation of the same data then permits isolation of the liquid saturation value, and also provides some direct information about the state of saturation. By thus replotting the data in the (lambda/mu, rho/mu)-plane, inferences can be made concerning the degree of patchy (inhomogeneous) versus homogeneous saturation that is present in the region of the medium sampled by the data. Our examples include igneous and sedimentary rocks, as well as man-made porous materials. These results have potential applications in various areas of interest, including petroleum exploration and reservoir characterization, geothermal resource evaluation, environmental restoration monitoring, and geotechnical site characterization.  相似文献

Based on experiments and 3D simulations, we show that a soft elastic film during adhesion and debonding from a rigid flat surface undergoes morphological transitions to pillars, labyrinths, and cavities, all of which have the same lateral pattern length scale, lambda close to lambda/H approximately 3 for thick films, H > 1 microm . The linear stability analysis and experiments show a new thin film regime where lambda/H approximately equal to 3 + 2pi(lambda/3 muH)1/4 (gamma is surface tension, mu is shear modulus) because of a significant surface energy penalty (for example, lambda/H approximately equal to 6 for H = 200 nm; mu = 1 MPa).  相似文献

In this paper, an evolutionary model of bus transport network in B-space is developed. It includes the effect of the overlapping ratio of new route on network performance and overcomes the disadvantage, i.e. lack of economic consideration, in the evolutionary bus transport network model in P-space proposed by Chen et al (2007). The degree distribution functions are derived by using the mean-field method and the master equation method, separately. The relationship between the new stop ratio of a route, λ, and the error in exponential of degree distribution function from the mean-field method is developed as ASlope= λ/(1 -λ) + ln(1-λ). Finally, the bus transport networks of Hangzhou and Nanjing are simulated by using this model, and the results show that some characteristic index values of the simulated networks are closer to the empirical data than those from Chen's model.  相似文献

The visible ( 589nm) and IR ( 820nm) radiation has been detected, when two counterpropagating light pulses, nondegenerate in frequency, interacted with sodium vapour. The generated IR radiation was attributed to the fluorescence between 3D and 3P sodium levels, while conical geometry of visible radiation indicated the parametric origin of detected emission.  相似文献

A point particle of mass mu moving on a geodesic creates a perturbation h(mu), of the spacetime metric g(0), that diverges at the particle. Simple expressions are given for the singular mu/r part of h(mu) and its quadrupole distortion caused by the spacetime. Subtracting these from h(mu) leaves a remainder h(R) that is C1. The self-force on the particle from its own gravitational field corrects the world line at O(mu) to be a geodesic of g(0)+h(R). For the case that the particle is a small nonrotating black hole, an approximate solution to the Einstein equations is given with error of O(mu(2)) as mu-->0.  相似文献

We report on a search for B0(s) --> mu+ mu- and B0(d) --> mu + mu- decays in pp collisions at square root(s) = 1.96 TeV using 364 pb(-1) of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. After applying all selection requirements, we observe no candidates inside the B0(s) or B0(d) mass windows. The resulting upper limits on the branching fractions are B(B0(s) --> mu+ mu-) < 1.5 x 10(-7) and B(B0(d) --> mu+ mu-) < 3.9 x 10(-8) at 90% confidence level.  相似文献

Ensemble averages of the sensitivity to initial conditions xi(t) and the entropy production per unit of time of a new family of one-dimensional dissipative maps, x(t+1)=1-ae(-1/|x(t)|(z))(z>0), and of the known logisticlike maps, x(t+1)=1-a|x(t)|(z)(z>1), are numerically studied, both for strong (Lyapunov exponent lambda(1)>0) and weak (chaos threshold, i.e., lambda(1)=0) chaotic cases. In all cases we verify the following: (i) both [ln((q)x triple bond (x(1-q)-1)/(1-q); ln((1)x=ln(x] and [S(q) triple bond (1- sigma p(q)(i))/(q-1); S(1)=- sigma p(i)ln(p(i)] linearly increase with time for (and only for) a special value of q, q(av)(sen), and (ii) the slope of and that of coincide, thus interestingly extending the well known Pesin theorem. For strong chaos, q(av)(sen)=1, whereas at the edge of chaos q(av)(sen)(z)<1.  相似文献
