The Ising model with the frustrated exchange interaction for strongly anisotropic antiferromagnetic ultrathin film is investigated in the mean field approximation at low temperatures. It is shown that a spatially inhomogeneous state can be accomplished in the system at a certain relation of material constants values, along with homogeneous states: ferromagnetic, quadrupolar or supersolid magnetic phases. The phase diagram of the system is built on the basis of stability lines analysis.  相似文献

Using large scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations and dual vortex theory, we analyze the ground state phase diagram of hard-core bosons on the kagome lattice with nearest-neighbor repulsion. In contrast with the case of a triangular lattice, no supersolid emerges for strong interactions. While a uniform superfluid prevails at half filling, two novel solid phases emerge at densities rho=1/3 and rho=2/3. These solids exhibit an only partial ordering of the bosonic density, allowing for local resonances on a subset of hexagons of the kagome lattice. We provide evidence for a weakly first-order phase transition at the quantum melting point between these solid phases and the superfluid.  相似文献

We determine the finite-temperature phase diagram of the square lattice hard-core boson Hubbard model with nearest neighbor repulsion using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. This model is equivalent to an anisotropic spin-1/2 XXZ model in a magnetic field. We present the rich phase diagram with a first order transition between a solid and superfluid phase, instead of a previously conjectured supersolid and a tricritical end point to phase separation. Unusual reentrant behavior with ordering upon increasing the temperature is found, similar to the Pomeranchuk effect in 3He.  相似文献

We investigate the ground state of bosons with long-range interactions in the large U limit on a triangular lattice. By mapping this system to the spin-1/2 XXZ model in a magnetic field, we can apply the spin wave theory to this study. We demonstrate how to construct the phase diagrams within the spin wave theory. The phase diagrams are given in an extensive parameter region, where, besides the superfluid phase, diverse solid and supersolid phases are shown to exist in this model. Especially, we find that the phase diagram obtained in this method is consistent with the one obtained previously using numerical techniques in the Ising limit. This confirms the effectiveness of our method. We analyze the stability of all the obtained supersolids and show that they will not be ruined by the quantum fluctuations. We observe that the quantum fluctuations in the stripe supersolid phase could be enhanced by the external field. We also discuss the relevance of our result with the experiment that may be realized with ultracold bosonic polar molecules in a triangular optical lattice.  相似文献

We determine the phase diagram of hard-core bosons on a triangular lattice with nearest-neighbor repulsion, paying special attention to the stability of the supersolid phase. Similar to the same model on a square lattice we find that for densities rho<1/3 or rho>2/3 a supersolid phase is unstable and the transition between a commensurate solid and the superfluid is of first order. We study collective behavior of magnetic adatoms randomly distributed on the surface of a topological insulator. Interactions of an ensemble of adatoms are frustrated, as the RKKY-type interactions of two adatom spins depend on the directions of spins relative to the vector connecting them. We show that at low temperatures the frustrated RKKY interactions give rise to two phases: an ordered ferromagnetic phase with spins pointing perpendicular to the surface, and a disordered spin-glass-like phase. The two phases are separated by a quantum phase transition driven by the magnetic exchange anisotropy. The ordered phase breaks time-reversal symmetry spontaneously, driving the surface states into a gapped state, which exhibits an anomalous quantum Hall effect and provides a realization of the parity anomaly. We find that the magnetic ordering is suppressed by potential scattering.  相似文献

New magnetization plateaus and supersolid phases are identified in an extended Shastry–Sutherland model – with additional longer range interactions and exchange anisotropy – over a wide range of interaction parameters and an applied magnetic field. The model is appropriate for describing the low energy properties of some members of the rare earth tetraborides. Using a plaquette representation and exact mapping of ground state configurations in the Ising limit, supplemented by large scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations to include the effects of exchange interactions, we have identified several magnetization plateaus and associated spin supersolid phases. Our methods enable us to elucidate the underlying structure and mechanism of formation of the supersolid phases, thus gaining deeper understanding into their emergence from competing interactions. Additionally, in this regime we find evidence of a fractional plateau at 1∕9 saturation magnetization, which may hold the clue to understanding the fractional plateau in TmB4 that exhibits magnetic hysteresis.  相似文献

We study hard-core bosons with unfrustrated hopping (t) and nearest neighbor repulsion (U) (spin S=1/2 XXZ model) on the triangular lattice. At half filling, the system undergoes a zero temperature (T) quantum phase transition from a superfluid phase at small U to a supersolid at Uc approximately 4.45 in units of 2t. This supersolid phase breaks the lattice translation symmetry in a characteristic sqrt[3] x square root of 3 pattern, and is remarkably stable--indeed, a smooth extrapolation of our results indicates that the supersolid phase persists for arbitrarily large U/t.  相似文献

We study the nature of the ground state of the two-dimensional extended boson Hubbard model on a square lattice by quantum Monte Carlo methods. We demonstrate that strong but finite on-site interaction U along with a comparable nearest-neighbor repulsion V result in a thermodynamically stable supersolid ground state for densities larger than 1/2, in contrast to fillings less than 1/2 or for very large U, where the checkerboard supersolid is unstable towards phase separation. We discuss the relevance of our results to realizations of supersolids using cold bosonic atoms in optical lattices.  相似文献

We investigate the quantum phases of polarized dipolar bosons loaded into a two-dimensional square and three-dimensional cubic optical lattices. We show that the long-range and anisotropic nature of the dipole-dipole interaction induces a rich variety of quantum phases, including the supersolid and striped supersolid phases in two-dimensional lattices, and the layered supersolid phase in three-dimensional lattices.  相似文献

We consider an S=1 Heisenberg chain with strong exchange (Delta=J(z)/J(perpendicular)) and single-ion uniaxial anisotropy (D) in a magnetic field (B) along the symmetry axis. The low-energy spectrum is described by an effective S=1/2 XXZ model that acts on two different low-energy sectors for a finite range of fields. The vacuum of each sector exhibits Ising-like antiferromagnetic ordering coexisting with the finite spin stiffness obtained from the exact solution of the XXZ model. In this way, we demonstrate the existence of a spin supersolid phase. We also compute the full Delta-B quantum phase diagram using a quantum Monte Carlo method.  相似文献

We study the physics of cold polar molecules loaded into an optical lattice in the regime of strong three-body interactions, as put forward recently by Büchler et al. [Nature Phys. 3, 726 (2007)]. To this end, quantum Monte Carlo simulations, exact diagonalization, and a semiclassical approach are used to explore hard-core bosons on the 2D square lattice which interact solely by long-ranged three-body terms. The resulting phase diagram shows a sequence of solid and supersolid phases. Our findings are directly relevant for future experimental implementations and open a new route towards the discovery of a lattice supersolid phase in experiment.  相似文献

We investigate the newly discovered supersolid phase by solving in random-phase approximation the anisotropic Heisenberg model of the hard-core boson 4He lattice at zero temperature. We include nearest and next-nearest neighbor interactions and calculate exactly all pair correlation functions in a cumulant decoupling scheme. We demonstrate the importance of vacancies and interstitials in the formation of the supersolid phase. The supersolid phase is characterised by strong quantum fluctuations which are taken into account rigorously. Furthermore we confirm that the superfluid to supersolid transition is triggered by a collapsing roton minimum however is stable against spontaneously induced superflow, i.e. vortex creation.  相似文献

We study quantum phase transitions in the ground state of the two dimensional hard-core boson Hubbard Hamiltonian. Recent work on this and related models has suggested "supersolid" phases with simultaneous diagonal and off-diagonal long range order. We show numerically that, contrary to the generally held belief, the most commonly discussed "checkerboard" supersolid is thermodynamically unstable. Furthermore, this supersolid cannot be stabilized by next-near-neighbor interaction. We obtain the correct phase diagram using the Maxwell construction. We demonstrate that the "striped" supersolid is thermodynamically stable and is separated from the superfluid phase by a continuous phase transition.  相似文献

We study the ground-state phases of two-dimensional rotating spin–orbit coupled spin-1/2 Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) in a gradient magnetic field. The competition between gradient magnetic field, spin–orbit coupling and rotation leads to a variety of ground-state phase structures. In the weakly rotation regime, as the increase of gradient magnetic field strength, the BECs experiences a phase transition from the unstable phase to the single vortex-line phase. The unstable phase presents the vortex lines structures along the off-diagonal direction. With magnetic field gradient strength increasing, the number of vortex lines changes accordingly. As the magnetic field gradient strength increases further, the single vortex-line phase with a single vortex line along the diagonal direction is formed. The phase diagram shows that the boundary between the two phases is linear with the relative repulsion λ≥1 and is nonlinear with λ<1. In the relatively strong rotation regime, in addition to the unstable phase and the single vortex-line phase, the vortex-ring phase is formed for the strong magnetic field gradient and rapid rotation. The vortex-ring phase shows the giant and hidden vortex structures at the center of ring. The strong magnetic field gradient makes the number of the vortices around the ring unchanged.  相似文献

We report detailed measurements of the low temperature magnetic phase diagram of Er2Ti2O7. Heat capacity and time-of-flight neutron scattering studies of single crystals reveal unconventional low-energy states. Er3+ magnetic ions reside on a pyrochlore lattice in Er2Ti2O7, where local XY anisotropy and antiferromagnetic interactions give rise to a unique frustrated system. In zero field, the ground state exhibits coexisting short and long-range order, accompanied by soft collective spin excitations previously believed to be absent. The application of finite magnetic fields tunes the ground state continuously through a landscape of noncollinear phases, divided by a zero temperature phase transition at micro{0}H{c} approximately 1.5 T. The characteristic energy scale for spin fluctuations is seen to vanish at the critical point, as expected for a second order quantum phase transition driven by quantum fluctuations.  相似文献

We use numerical methods to demonstrate that the phase diagram of S=1 Heisenberg models with uniaxial anisotropy contains an extended supersolid phase. We show that this Hamiltonian is a particular case of a more general and ubiquitous model that describes the low-energy spectrum of some isotropic and frustrated spin-dimer systems. This result is crucial for finding a spin supersolid state in real magnets.  相似文献

We use quantum Monte Carlo simulations to determine the finite temperature phase diagram and to investigate the thermal and quantum melting of stripe phases in a two-dimensional hard-core boson model. At half filling and low temperatures the stripes melt at a first order transition. In the doped system, the melting transitions of the smectic phase at high temperatures and the superfluid smectic (supersolid) phase at low temperatures are either very weakly first order, or of second order with no clear indications for an intermediate nematic phase.  相似文献

We consider the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with alternating spin exchange in the presence of additional modulation of exchange on odd bonds with period 3. We study the ground state magnetic phase diagram of this hexamer spin chain in the limit of very strong antiferromagnetic (AF) exchange on odd bonds using the numerical Lanczos method and bosonization approach. In the limit of strong magnetic field commensurate with the dominating AF exchange, the model is mapped onto an effective XXZ Heisenberg chain in the presence of uniform and spatially modulated fields, which is studied using the standard continuum-limit bosonization approach. In the absence of additional hexamer modulation, the model undergoes a quantum phase transition from a gapped phase into the only one gapless Lüttinger liquid (LL) phase by increasing the magnetic field. In the presence of hexamer modulation, two new gapped phases are identified in the ground state at magnetization equal to [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] of the saturation value. These phases reveal themselves also in the magnetization curve as plateaus at corresponding values of magnetization. As a result, the magnetic phase diagram of the hexamer chain shows seven different quantum phases, four gapped and three gapless, and the system is characterized by six critical fields which mark quantum phase transitions between the ordered gapped and the LL gapless phases.  相似文献

We investigate the interplay of classical degeneracy and quantum dynamics in a range of periodic frustrated transverse field Ising systems at zero temperature. We find that such dynamics can lead to unusual ordered phases and phase transitions or to a quantum spin liquid (cooperative paramagnetic) phase as in the triangular and kagome lattice antiferromagnets, respectively. For the latter, we further predict passage to a bond-ordered phase followed by a critical phase as the field is tilted. These systems also provide exact realizations of quantum dimer models introduced in studies of high temperature superconductivity.  相似文献
