In this research article, the inverse problem of finding a time‐dependent coefficient in a second‐order elliptic equation is investigated. The existence and the uniqueness of the classical solution of the problem under consideration are established. Numerical tests using the finite‐difference scheme combined with an iteration method are presented, and the sensitivity of this scheme with respect to noisy overdetermination data is illustrated. An interpolated coefficient finite element method is presented and analyzed for the two‐dimensional elliptic sine‐Gordon equations with Dirichlet boundary conditions. Segregated direct boundary‐domain integral equation (BDIE) systems associated with mixed, Dirichlet and Neumann boundary value problems (BVPs) for a scalar “Laplace” PDE with variable coefficient are formulated and analyzed for domains with interior cuts (cracks). In this article, we propose a new discontinuous finite volume element (DFVE) method for the second‐order elliptic problems. We treat the DFVE method as a perturbation of the interior penalty method and get a superapproximation estimate in a mesh dependent norm between the solution of the DFVE method and that of the interior penalty method. This reveals that the DFVE method is much closer to the interior penalty method than we have known. By using this superapproximation estimate, we can easily get the optimal order error estimates in the L2 ‐norm and in the maximum norms of the DFVE method.© 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper is concerned with a class of fourth-order nonlinear elliptic equations with nonlocal boundary conditions, including a multi-point boundary condition in a bounded domain of Rn. Also considered is a second-order elliptic equation with nonlocal boundary condition, and the usual multi-point boundary problem in ordinary differential equations. The aim of the paper is to show the existence of maximal and minimal solutions, the uniqueness of a positive solution, and the method of construction for these solutions. Our approach to the above problems is by the method of upper and lower solutions and its associated monotone iterations. The monotone iterative schemes can be developed into computational algorithms for numerical solutions of the problem by either the finite difference method or the finite element method.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a variable‐coefficient wave equation with nonlinear acoustic boundary conditions and source term. In this paper, we investigate the existence of positive solutions for singular elliptic equations with mixed Dirichlet‐Neumann boundary conditions involving Sobolev‐Hardy critical exponents and Hardy terms by using the concentration compactness principle, the strong maximum principle and the Mountain Pass lemma. We also prove, under complementary conditions, that there is no nontrivial solution if the domain is star‐shaped with respect to the origin.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) methods for two‐dimensional nonlinear second‐order elliptic problems of the type uxx + uyy = f(x, y, u, ux, uy) , in a rectangular region Ω with classical boundary conditions on the boundary of Ω . Convergence properties for the solution and for the auxiliary variable that approximates its gradient are established. More specifically, we use the duality argument to prove that the errors between the LDG solutions and the exact solutions in the L2 norm achieve optimal (p + 1)th order convergence, when tensor product polynomials of degree at most p are used. Moreover, we prove that the gradient of the LDG solution is superclose with order p + 1 toward the gradient of Gauss–Radau projection of the exact solution. The results are valid in two space dimensions on Cartesian meshes using tensor product polynomials of degree p ≥ 1 , and for both mixed Dirichlet–Neumann and periodic boundary conditions. Preliminary numerical experiments indicate that our theoretical findings are optimal.  相似文献

We study the solvability of nonlinear second order elliptic partial differential equations with nonlinear boundary conditions. We introduce the notion of “eigenvalue-lines” in the plane; these eigenvalue-lines join each Steklov eigenvalue to the first eigenvalue of the Neumann problem with homogeneous boundary condition. We prove existence results when the nonlinearities involved asymptotically stay, in some sense, below the first eigenvalue-lines or in a quadrilateral region (depicted in Fig. 1) enclosed by two consecutive eigenvalue-lines. As a special case we derive the so-called nonresonance results below the first Steklov eigenvalue as well as between two consecutive Steklov eigenvalues. The case in which the eigenvalue-lines join each Neumann eigenvalue to the first Steklov eigenvalue is also considered. Our method of proof is variational and relies mainly on minimax methods in critical point theory.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a difference scheme with global convergence order $O(\tau^{2}+h^4)$ for a class of the Caputo fractional equation. The difficulty caused by the spatially variable coefficients is successfully handled. The unique solvability, stability and convergence of the finite difference scheme are proved by use of the Fourier method. Inspired by the penalization of the domain approach of Lions and Sznitman, we give a sense to Neumann and oblique derivatives boundary value problems for nonlocal, possibly degenerate elliptic equations. Two different cases are considered: (i) homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions in convex, possibly non-smooth and unbounded domains, and (ii) general oblique derivatives boundary conditions in smooth, bounded, and possibly non-convex domains. In each case we give appropriate definitions of viscosity solutions and prove uniqueness of solutions of the corresponding boundary value problems. We prove that these boundary value problems arise in the penalization of the domain limit from whole space problems and obtain as a corollary the existence of solutions of these problems.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a multilevel preconditioner for the Crouzeix-Raviart finite element approximation of second-order elliptic partial differential equations with discontinuous coefficients. Since the finite element spaces are nonnested, weighted intergrid transfer operators, which are stable under the weighted L2 norm, are introduced to exchange information between different meshes. By analyzing the eigenvalue distribution of the preconditioned system, we prove that except a few small eigenvalues, all the other eigenvalues are bounded below and above nearly uniformly with respect to the jump and the mesh size. As a result, we get that the convergence rate of the preconditioned conjugate gradient method is quasi-uniform with respect to the jump and the mesh size. Numerical experiments are presented to confirm our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

We consider the Dirichlet problem for non‐divergence parabolic equation with discontinuous in t coefficients in a half space. The main result is weighted coercive estimates of solutions in anisotropic Sobolev spaces. We give an application of this result to linear and quasi‐linear parabolic equations in a bounded domain. We classify positive solutions to a class of quasilinear equations with Neumann or Robin boundary conditions in convex domains. Our main tool is an integral formula involving the trace of some relevant quantities for the problem.Under a suitable condition on the nonlinearity, a relevant consequence of our results is that we can extend to weak solutions a celebrated result obtained for stable solutions by Casten and Holland and by Matano.  相似文献
