We study investment problems in a continuous-time setting and conclude that the proper control variables are elasticities to the traded assets or, in the case of stochastic interest rates, (factor) durations. This formulation of a portfolio problem allows us to solve the problems in a kind of two-step procedure: First, by calculating the optimal elasticities and durations we determine the optimal wealth process and then we compute a portfolio process which tracks these elasticities and durations. Our findings are not only interesting in itself, but the approach also proves useful in many varied applications including portfolios with (path-dependent) options. An important application can be the solution of portfolio problems with defaultable bonds modelled by a firm value approach.  相似文献

We develop a general approach to portfolio optimization taking account of estimation risk and stylized facts of empirical finance. This is done within a Bayesian framework. The approximation of the posterior distribution of the unknown model parameters is based on a parallel tempering algorithm. The portfolio optimization is done using the first two moments of the predictive discrete asset return distribution. For illustration purposes we apply our method to empirical stock market data where daily asset log-returns are assumed to follow an orthogonal MGARCH process with t-distributed perturbations. Our results are compared with other portfolios suggested by popular optimization strategies.  相似文献

We consider the problem where a manager aims to minimize the probability of his portfolio return falling below a threshold while keeping the expected return no worse than a target, under the assumption that stock returns are Log-Normally distributed. This assumption, common in the finance literature for daily and weekly returns, creates computational difficulties because the distribution of the portfolio return is difficult to estimate precisely. We approximate it with a single Log-Normal random variable using the Fenton–Wilkinson method and investigate an iterative, data-driven approximation to the problem. We propose a two-stage solution approach, where the first stage requires solving a classic mean-variance optimization model and the second step involves solving an unconstrained nonlinear problem with a smooth objective function. We suggest an iterative calibration method to improve the accuracy of the method and test its performance against a Generalized Pareto Distribution approximation. We also extend our results to the design of basket options.  相似文献

We study a stochastic programming approach to multicriteria multi-period portfolio optimization problem. We use a Single Index Model to estimate the returns of stocks from a market-representative index and a random walk model to generate scenarios on the possible values of the index return. We consider expected return, Conditional Value at Risk and liquidity as our criteria. With stocks from Istanbul Stock Exchange, we make computational studies for the two and three-criteria cases. We demonstrate the tradeoffs between criteria and show that treating these criteria simultaneously yields meaningful efficient solutions. We provide insights based on our experiments.  相似文献

We address the multi-period portfolio optimization problem with the constant rebalancing strategy. This problem is formulated as a polynomial optimization problem (POP) by using a mean-variance criterion. In order to solve the POPs of high degree, we develop a cutting-plane algorithm based on semidefinite programming. Our algorithm can solve problems that can not be handled by any of known polynomial optimization solvers.  相似文献

The topic of this paper is as, the title shows, to introduce the formulation of fuzzy portfolio optimization problem as a convex quadratic programming approach and then give an acceptable solution to such problem. A numerical example included in the support of this paper for illustration.  相似文献

In this paper we study the continuous time optimal portfolio selection problem for an investor with a finite horizon who maximizes expected utility of terminal wealth and faces transaction costs in the capital market. It is well known that, depending on a particular structure of transaction costs, such a problem is formulated and solved within either stochastic singular control or stochastic impulse control framework. In this paper we propose a unified framework, which generalizes the contemporary approaches and is capable to deal with any problem where transaction costs are a linear/piecewise-linear function of the volume of trade. We also discuss some methods for solving numerically the problem within our unified framework.  相似文献

Metaheuristic optimization algorithms have become popular choice for solving complex and intricate problems which are otherwise difficult to solve by traditional methods. In the present study an attempt is made to review the hybrid optimization techniques in which one main algorithm is a well known metaheuristic; particle swarm optimization or PSO. Hybridization is a method of combining two (or more) techniques in a judicious manner such that the resulting algorithm contains the positive features of both (or all) the algorithms. Depending on the algorithm/s used we made three classifications as (i) Hybridization of PSO and genetic algorithms (ii) Hybridization of PSO with differential evolution and (iii) Hybridization of PSO with other techniques. Where, other techniques include various local and global search methods. Besides giving the review we also show a comparison of three hybrid PSO algorithms; hybrid differential evolution particle swarm optimization (DE-PSO), adaptive mutation particle swarm optimization (AMPSO) and hybrid genetic algorithm particle swarm optimization (GA-PSO) on a test suite of nine conventional benchmark problems.  相似文献

The Markowitz Mean Variance model (MMV) and its variants are widely used for portfolio selection. The mean and covariance matrix used in the model originate from probability distributions that need to be determined empirically. It is well known that these parameters are notoriously difficult to estimate. In addition, the model is very sensitive to these parameter estimates. As a result, the performance and composition of MMV portfolios can vary significantly with the specification of the mean and covariance matrix. In order to address this issue we propose a one-period mean-variance model, where the mean and covariance matrix are only assumed to belong to an exogenously specified uncertainty set. The robust mean-variance portfolio selection problem is then written as a conic program that can be solved efficiently with standard solvers. Both second order cone program (SOCP) and semidefinite program (SDP) formulations are discussed. Using numerical experiments with real data we show that the portfolios generated by the proposed robust mean-variance model can be computed efficiently and are not as sensitive to input errors as the classical MMV??s portfolios.  相似文献

A stochastic programming approach for multi-period portfolio optimization   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper extends previous work on the use of stochastic linear programming to solve life-cycle investment problems. We combine the feature of asset return predictability with practically relevant constraints arising in a life-cycle investment context. The objective is to maximize the expected utility of consumption over the lifetime and of bequest at the time of death of the investor. Asset returns and state variables follow a first-order vector auto-regression and the associated uncertainty is described by discrete scenario trees. To deal with the long time intervals involved in life-cycle problems we consider a few short-term decisions (to exploit any short-term return predictability), and incorporate a closed-form solution for the long, subsequent steady-state period to account for end effects.  相似文献

A new ranking scheme based on equilibrium strategy of selection is proposed for multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO), and the preference ordering is used to identify the “best compromise” in the ranking stage. This scheme increases the selective pressure, especially when the number of objectives is very large. The proposed algorithm has been compared with other multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). The experimental results indicate that our algorithm produces better convergence performance.  相似文献

With rapid technological innovation and strong competition in hi-tech industries such as computer and communication organizations, the upstream component price and the downstream product cost usually decline significantly with time. As a result, an effective pricing supply chain model is very important. This paper first establishes two bi-level pricing models for pricing problems with the buyer and the vendor in a supply chain designated as the leader and the follower, respectively. A particle swarm optimization (PSO) based algorithm is developed to solve problems defined by these bi-level pricing models. Experiments illustrate that this PSO based algorithm can achieve a profit increase for buyers or vendors if they are treated as the leaders under some situations, compared with the existing methods.  相似文献

This paper develops the OPUS (Optimization by Particle swarm Using Surrogates) framework for expensive black-box optimization. In each iteration, OPUS considers multiple trial positions for each particle in the swarm and uses a surrogate model to identify the most promising trial position. Moreover, the current overall best position is refined by finding the global minimum of the surrogate in the neighborhood of that position. OPUS is implemented using an RBF surrogate and the resulting OPUS-RBF algorithm is applied to a 36-D groundwater bioremediation problem, a 14-D watershed calibration problem, and ten mostly 30-D test problems. OPUS-RBF is compared with a standard PSO, CMA-ES, two other surrogate-assisted PSO algorithms, and an RBF-assisted evolution strategy. The numerical results suggest that OPUS-RBF is promising for expensive black-box optimization.  相似文献

Multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) is an optimization technique inspired by bird flocking, which has been steadily gaining attention from the research community because of its high convergence speed. On the other hand, in the face of increasing complexity and dimensionality of today’s application coupled with its tendency of premature convergence due to the high convergence speeds, there is a need to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of MOPSO. In this paper a competitive and cooperative co-evolutionary approach is adapted for multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm design, which appears to have considerable potential for solving complex optimization problems by explicitly modeling the co-evolution of competing and cooperating species. The competitive and cooperative co-evolution model helps to produce the reasonable problem decompositions by exploiting any correlation, interdependency between components of the problem. The proposed competitive and cooperative co-evolutionary multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm (CCPSO) is validated through comparisons with existing state-of-the-art multi-objective algorithms using established benchmarks and metrics. Simulation results demonstrated that CCPSO shows competitive, if not better, performance as compared to the other algorithms.  相似文献

The multidimensional knapsack problem (MKP) is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem, which has been proven as NP-hard problems. Various population-based search algorithms are applied to solve these problems. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is adapted in our study, which proposes two novel PSO algorithms, namely, the binary PSO with time-varying acceleration coefficients (BPSOTVAC) and the chaotic binary PSO with time-varying acceleration coefficients (CBPSOTVAC). The two proposed methods were tested using 116 benchmark problems from the OR-Library to validate and demonstrate the efficiency of these algorithms in solving multidimensional knapsack problems. The results were then compared with those in the other two existing PSO algorithms. The simulation and evaluation results showed that the proposed algorithms, BPSOTVAC and CBPSOTVAC, are superior over the other methods according to its success rate, mean absolute deviation, mean absolute percentage error, least error, and standard deviation.  相似文献

Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a relatively new optimization algorithm that has been applied to a variety of problems. However, it may easily get trapped in a local optima when solving complex multimodal problems. To address this concerning issue, we propose a novel PSO called as CSPSO to improve the performance of PSO on complex multimodal problems in the paper. Specifically, a stochastic search technique is used to execute the exploration in PSO, so as to help the algorithm to jump out of the likely local optima. In addition, to enhance the global convergence, when producing the initial population, both opposition-based learning method and chaotic maps are employed. Moreover, numerical simulation and comparisons with some typical existing algorithms demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

This paper proposes particle swarm optimization with age-group topology (PSOAG), a novel age-based particle swarm optimization (PSO). In this work, we present a new concept of age to measure the search ability of each particle in local area. To keep population diversity during searching, we separate particles to different age-groups by their age and particles in each age-group can only select the ones in younger groups or their own groups as their neighbourhoods. To allow search escape from local optima, the aging particles are regularly replaced by new and randomly generated ones. In addition, we design an age-group based parameter setting method, where particles in different age-groups have different parameters, to accelerate convergence. This algorithm is applied to nonlinear function optimization and data clustering problems for performance evaluation. In comparison against several PSO variants and other EAs, we find that the proposed algorithm provides significantly better performances on both the function optimization problems and the data clustering tasks.  相似文献
