The spectrum of the squared Dirac operator is studied in the background of symmetric instanton-like configurations on symmetric spaces G/H. The eigenvalues are expressed in terms of Casimir invariants of G and H. These eigenvalues determine the masses of fermions in Kaluza-Klein theories with compactification induced by the generalized instantons. The G-representations of the zero modes are determined for fermions in arbitrary representations of H on Sn and CPn. For spheres in even dimensions a comparison with the index theorem reveals a remarkable relation between the Nth index (or anomaly) of SO(2N) and dimensions of SO(2N + 1) representations. Using the fundamental indices, we find the topologically stable symmetric solutions on S2n for any gauge group, and compare with recent results on local stability.  相似文献

We present a nonperturbative lattice formulation of noncommutative Yang–Mills theories in arbitrary even dimension. We show that lattice regularization of a noncommutative field theory requires finite lattice volume which automatically provides both an ultraviolet and an infrared cutoff. We demonstrate explicitly Morita equivalence of commutative U(p) gauge theory with p·nf flavours of fundamental matter fields on a lattice of size L with twisted boundary conditions and noncommutative U(1) gauge theory with nf species of matter on a lattice of size p·L with single-valued fields. We discuss the relation with twisted large N reduced models and construct observables in noncommutative gauge theory with matter.  相似文献

We study N = 1 dualities in four-dimensional supersymmetric gauge theories as the world volume theory of D4 branes with one compact direction in type IIA string theory. We generalize the previous work for SO(Nc1) × Sp(Nc2) with the superpotential W = TrX4 to the case of W = TrX4(k+1) in terms of brane configuration. We conjecture that the new dualities for the product gauge groups of SO(Nc1) × Sp(Nc2) × SO(Nc3), SO(Nc1) × Sp(Nc2) × SO(Nc3) × Sp(Nc4) and higher multiple product gauge groups can be obtained by reversing the ordering of NS5 branes and D6 branes while preserving the linking numbers. We also describe the above dualities in terms of wrapping D6 branes around 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds in type IIA string theory. The theory with adjoint matter can be regarded as taking multiple copies of NS5 brane in the configuration of brane or geometric approaches.  相似文献

We examine the role of instantons in the zero-temperature chiral phase transition in an SU(N) gauge theory. For a range of Nf (the number of fermion flavors) depending on N, the theory exhibits an infrared fixed point at coupling *. As Nf decreases, * increases, and it eventually exceeds a critical value sufficient to trigger chiral symmetry breaking. For the case N = 2, we estimate the critical values of Nf and * due to instantons by numerically solving a gap equation with an instanton-generated kernel. We find instanton effects of strength comparable to that of gluon exchange.  相似文献

We study the spectrum of the QCD Dirac operator for two colors with fermions in the fundamental representation and for two or more colors with adjoint fermions. For Nf flavors, the chiral flavor symmetry of these theories is spontaneously broken according to SU (2NfSp (2Nf) and SU (NfO (Nf), respectively, rather than the symmetry breaking pattern SU (Nf) × SU (Nf) → SU (Nf) for QCD with three or more colors and fundamental fermions. In this paper we study the Dirac spectrum for the first two symmetry breaking patterns. Following previous work for the third case we find the Dirac spectrum in the domain λ ΛQCD by means of partially quenched chiral perturbation theory. In particular, this result allows us to calculate the slope of the Dirac spectrum at λ = 0. We also show that for λ 1/L2 ΛQCD (wing L the linear size fo the system) the Dirac spectrum is given by a chiral Random Matrix Theory with the symmetries of the Dirac operator.  相似文献

We show that the transfer matrix of the AN−1(1) open spin chair with diagonal boundary fields has the symmetry Uq(SU(l)) × Uq(SU(Nl)) × U(1), as well as a “duality” symmetry which maps lNl. We exploit these symmetries to compute exact boundary S-matrices in the regime with q real.  相似文献

The quantum Euclidean spheres, SqN−1, are (noncommutative) homogeneous spaces of quantum orthogonal groups, SOq(N). The *-algebra A(SN−1q) of polynomial functions on each of these is given by generators and relations which can be expressed in terms of a self-adjoint, unipotent matrix. We explicitly construct complete sets of generators for the K-theory (by nontrivial self-adjoint idempotents and unitaries) and the K-homology (by nontrivial Fredholm modules) of the spheres SqN−1. We also construct the corresponding Chern characters in cyclic homology and cohomology and compute the pairing of K-theory with K-homology. On odd spheres (i.e., for N even) we exhibit unbounded Fredholm modules by means of a natural unbounded operator D which, while failing to have compact resolvent, has bounded commutators with all elements in the algebra A(SN−1q).  相似文献

We compute threshold effects to gauge couplings in four-dimensional N orientifold models of type I strings with GN = 2 and GN = 1 supersymmetry, and study their dependence on the geometric moduli. We also compute the tree-level (disk) couplings of the open sector gauge fields to the twisted closed string moduli of the orbifold in various models and study their effects and that of the one-loop threshold corrections on gauge coupling unification. We interpret the results from the (supergravity) effective theory point of view and comment on the conjectured heterotic-type I duality.  相似文献

We review the construction of the multiparametric quantum group ISOq,r(N) as a projection from SOq,r (N + 2) and show that it is a bicovariant bimodule over SOq,r(N). The universal enveloping algebra Uq,r(iso(N)), characterized as the Hopf algebra of regular functionals on ISOq,r(N), is found as a Hopf subalgebra of Uq,r(so(N + 2)) and is shown to be a bicovariant bimodule over Uq,r(so(N)).

An R-matrix formulation of Uq,r(iso(N)) is given and we prove the pairing Uq,r(iso(N)) — ISOq,r(N)). We analyze the subspaces of Uq,r(iso(N)) that define bicovariant differential calculi on ISOq,r(N).  相似文献

We study N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories with d=6 bulk and d=4 brane fields charged under a U(1) gauge symmetry. Radiatively induced Fayet–Iliopoulos terms lead to an instability of the bulk fields. We compute the profile of the bulk zero modes and observe the phenomenon of spontaneous localization towards the position of the branes. While this mechanism is quite similar to the d=5 case, the mass spectrum of the excited Kaluza–Klein modes shows a crucial difference.  相似文献

In this work we analyze the characteristics of quantum entanglement of the Dirac field in noninertial reference frames in the context of a new type pseudo-pure state, which is composed of the Bell states. This will help us to understand the relationship between the relativity and quantum information theory. Some states will be changed from entangled states into separable ones around the critical value F = 1/4, but there is no such a critical value for the variable y related to acceleration a. We find that the negativity NABI (ρTAABI) increases with F but decreases with the variable y, while the variation of the negativity NBIBII(ρTAABI) is opposite to that of the negativity NABI (ρTAABI). We also study the von Neumann entropies S(ρABI) and S(ρBIBII). We find that the S(ρABI) increases with variable y but S(ρBIBII) is independent of it. However, both S(ρABI) and S(ρBIBII) first decreases with F and then increases with it. The concurrences C(ρABI) and C(ρBIBII) are also discussed. We find that the former decreases with y while the latter increases with y but both of them first increase with F and then decrease with it.  相似文献

We discuss how N = 1 dualities in four dimensions are geometrically realized by wrapping D-branes about 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds. In this setup the N = 1 dualities for SU, SO and USp gauge groups with fundamental fields get mapped to statements about the monodromy and relations among 3-cycles of Calabi-Yau threefolds. The connection between the theory and its dual requires passing through configurations which are T-dual to the well-known phenomenon of decay of BPS states in N = 2 field theories in four dimensions. We compare our approach to recent works based on configurations of D-branes in the presence of NS 5-branes and give simple classical geometric derivations of various exotic dynamics involving D-branes ending on NS branes.  相似文献

The coset spaces E8/SO(10)×HF allow complex structures which can account for three quark–lepton generations including right-handed neutrinos. We show that in the context of supersymmetric SO(10) gauge theories in 6 dimensions they also provide the Higgs fields which are needed to break the electroweak and BL gauge symmetries, and to generate small neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism.  相似文献

We consider the field theory of N massless bosons which are free except for an interaction localized on the boundary of their (1+1)-dimensional world. The boundary action is the sum of two pieces: a periodic potential and a coupling to a uniform abelian gauge field. Such models arise in open-string theory and dissipative quantum mechanics, and possibly in edge state tunneling in the fractional quantized Hall effect. We explicitly show that conformal invariance is unbroken for certain special choices of the gauge field and the periodic potential. These special cases are naturally indexed by semi-simple, simply laced Lie algebras. For each such algebra, we have a discrete series of conformally invariant theories where the potential and gauge field are conveniently given in terms of the weight lattice of the algebra. We compute the exact boundary state for these theories, which explicitly shows the group structure. The partition function and correlation functions are easily computed using the boundary state result.  相似文献

The φ34 model at finite temperature is simulated on the lattice. For fixed Nt we compute the transition line for Ns → ∞ by means of finite size scaling techniques. The crossings of a renormalization group trajectory with the transition lines of increasing Nt give a well-defined limit for the critical temperature in the continuum. By considering different RG trajectories, we compute Tc/g as a function of the renormalized parameters.  相似文献

The possibility that nonsupersymmetric conformal field theories softly broken below 100 TeV may provide an alternative to conventional grand unification is explored. We consider a low energy theory presumed to be of this type arising from the type IIB superstring compactified on a AdS5×S5/Γ space whose gauge group and the particle content are severely restricted by the compactification process. We present an example of a resulting SU(4)C×SU(2)L×SU(2)R with three generations, which leads to coupling unification and a prediction for sin2θW0.227 and other phenomenology generally consistent with observations.  相似文献

We consider a formulation of nonperturbative two-dimensional quantum gravity coupled to a single bosonic field (d=1 matter). Starting from a matrix realization of the discretized model, we express the continuum theory as a double scaling limit in which the 2D cosmological constant g tends towards a critical value gc, and the string coupling 1/N→0, with the scaling parameter ∝1n (g-gc)/(g-gc)N held fixed. We find that in this formulation logarithmic corrections already present at tree level persist to all higher genus, suggesting a behavior different from the previously considered cases of d<1 matter.  相似文献

The effects of the symmetry potential and the isospin dependent in-medium nucleon–nucleon (NN) cross section on the number of proton(neutron) emissions Np(Nn) are studied respectively within an isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IQMD) model. The isospin dependent in-medium NN cross section is found to have a strong influence on Np(Nn) but Np(Nn) is not sensitive to the symmetry potential for the neutron-deficient colliding system at relatively high energies. We propose to make use of the Np(Nn) as a probe to extract information on the isospin dependent in-medium NN cross section.  相似文献

I investigate the evolution of finite temperature, classical Yang-Mills field equations under the influence of a chemical potential for Chern-Simons number Ncs. The rate of Ncs diffusion,, Γd, and the linear response of Ncs to a chemical potential, Γμ, are both computed; the relation Γd = 2Γμ is satisfied numerically and the results agree with the recent measurement of Γd by Ambjørn and Krasnitz. The response of Ncs under chemical potential remains linear at least to μ = 6T, which is impossible if there is a free energy barrier to the motion of Ncs. The possibility that the result depends on lattice artefacts via hard thermal loops is investigated by changing the lattice action and by examining elongated rectangular lattices; provided that the lattice is fine enough, the result is weakly if at all dependent on the specifics of the cutoff. I also compare SU(2) with SU(3) and find ΓSU(3) 7(s/w)4ΓSU(2).  相似文献

By means of a special choice of gauge QCD2 [SU(N)] with one flavor of quarks is recast into the Bose form. Weak (g m) and strong (gm) coupling regimes are studied. The former is shown to be the SU(N)-symmetric confining phase in which bound states possess stringlike configurations with strings being represented by electric vortex lines; the ordinary mesons and baryons appear as longitudinal modes of electric strings. The strong coupling regime describes the Higgs phase with the residual symmetry [U(1)]N−1 SN where the left and right factors are the maximal abelian subgroup of SU(N) and the permutation group of N quarks, respectively; the particle spectrum consists of SN multiplets and the [Uw(1)]N−1 charges are trapped.  相似文献
