In this note we consider the fluid queue driven by anM/M/1 queue as analysed by Virtamo and Norros [Queueing Systems 16 (1994) 373–386]. We show that the stationary buffer content in this model can be easily analysed by looking at embedded time points. This approach gives the stationary buffer content distribution in terms of the modified Bessel function of the first kind of order one. By using a suitable integral representation for this Bessel function we show that our results coincide with the ones of Virtamo and Norros.  相似文献

We consider an infinite buffer fluid queue receiving its input from the output of a Markovian queue with finite or infinite waiting room. The input is characterized by a Markov modulated rate process. We derive a new approach for the computation of the stationary buffer content. This approach leads to a numerically stable algorithm for which the precision of the result can be given in advance. We consider an M/G/1 queueing system in which the arrival rate and service time density are functions of a two-state stochastic process. We describe the system by the total unfinished work present and allow the arrival and service rate processes to depend on the current value of the unfinished work. We employ singular perturbation methods to compute asymptotic approximations to the stationary distribution of unfinished work and in particular, compute the stationary probability of an empty queue.This research was supported in part by NSF Grants DMS-84-06110, DMS-85-01535 and DMS-86-20267, and grants from the U.S. Israel Binational Science Foundation and the Israel Academy of Sciences.  相似文献

This paper studies a fluid model driven by an M/G/1 queue with multiple exponential vacations. By introducing various vacation strategies to the fluid model, we can provide greater flexibility for the design and control of input rate and output rate. The Laplace transform of the steady-state distribution of the buffer content is expressed through the minimal positive solution to a crucial equation. Then the performance measure-mean buffer content, which is independent of the vacation parameter, is obtained. Finally, with some numerical examples, the parameter effect on the mean buffer content is presented.  相似文献

In this paper, we give a detailed analysis of the GI/M/1 queue with exhaustive service and multiple exponential vacation. We express the transition matrix of the imbedded Markov chain as a block-Jacobi form and give a matrix-geometric solution. The probability distribution of the queue length at arrival epochs is derived and is shown to decompose into the distribution of the sum of two independent random variables. In addition, we discuss the limiting behavior of the continuous time queue length processes and obtain the probability distributions for the waiting time and the busy period.  相似文献

Consider an M/G/c queue with homogeneous servers and service time distribution F. It is shown that an approximation of the service time distribution F by stochastically smaller distributions, say F n , leads to an approximation of the stationary distribution π of the original M/G/c queue by the stationary distributions π n of the M/G/c queues with service time distributions F n . Here all approximations are in weak convergence. The argument is based on a representation of M/G/c queues in terms of piecewise deterministic Markov processes as well as some coupling methods.   相似文献

We consider an M/G/1 queue where the arrival and service processes are modulated by a two state Markov chain. We assume that the arrival rate, service time density and the rates at which the Markov chain switches its state, are functions of the total unfinished work (buffer content) in the queue. Consider a model consisting of two phases: the GI/GI/1 queue and a buffer which is fed by a fluid arriving from a single-server queue. The fluid output from the GI/GI/1 queue is of the on/off type with on- and off-periods distributed as successive busy and idle periods in the GI/GI/1 queue. The fluid pours out of the buffer at a constant rate. The steady-state performance of this model is studied. We derive the Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the stationary distribution function of the buffer content in the case of the M/GI/1 queue in the first phase. It is shown that this distribution depends on the form of the service-time distribution. Therefore, the replacement of an M/GI/1 queue by an M/M/1 queue is not correct, in general. Continuity estimates are derived in the cast where the buffer is fed from the GI/GI/1 queue. The problem of continuously controlling the arrival process in an M/G/1 queue is studied. The control is exercised by keeping the facility open or closed for potential arrivals, and is based on the residual workload process. The reward structure includes a reward rate R when the server is busy, and a holding cost rate cx when the residual workload is x. The economic criterion used is long run average return. A control limit policy is shown to be optimal. An iterative method for calculating this control limit policy is suggested.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider a PH/M/2 queue in which each server has its own queue and arriving customers join the shortest queue. For this model, it has been conjectured that the decay rate of the tail probabilities for the shortest queue length in the steady state is equal to the square of the decay rate for the queue length in the corresponding PH/M/2 model with a single queue. We prove this fact in the sense that the tail probabilities are asymptotically geometric when the difference of the queue sizes and the arrival phase are fixed. The expression for the Laplace transform of the joint steady-state distribution of the fluid model is of a simple matrix power function form or matrix factorial form. Based on this fact, we introduce a new method of fluid model??modified matrix geometric solution method. The Laplace transform and Laplace-Stieltjes transform of the steady-state distribution of the buffer content are concisely expressed through the minimal positive solution to a crucial quadratic equation. In this paper an analysis of the output process from an M/M/1 queue where the arrival and service rates vary randomly is presented. The results include expressions for the mean, variance and distribution of the interdeparture interval, the joint density function of two successive interdeparture intervals and their correlation. An interesting feature of the results is that the moments of the interdeparture time are expressed in terms of the expected times to first and second departures from an arbitrary point in time.  相似文献

We study anM/M/1 group arrival queue in which the arrival rate, service time distributions and the size of each group arrival depend on the state of an underlying finite-state Markov chain. Using Laplace transforms and matrix analysis, we derive the results for the queue length process, its limit distribution and the departure process. A study is made of an M/G/1-type queuing model in which customers receive one type of service until such time as, at the end of a service, the queue size is found to exceed a given value N, N ≥ 1. Then a second type of service is put into effect and remains in use until the queue size is reduced to a fixed value K, 0 ≤ K ≤ N. Equations are derived for the stationary probabilities both at departure times and at general times. An algorithm is developed that allows the rapid computation of the mean queue length and some important probabilities.  相似文献

We consider an M/M/m retrial queue and investigate the tail asymptotics for the joint distribution of the queue size and the number of busy servers in the steady state. The stationary queue size distribution with the number of busy servers being fixed is asymptotically given by a geometric function multiplied by a power function. The decay rate of the geometric function is the offered load and independent of the number of busy servers, whereas the exponent of the power function depends on the number of busy servers. We extend the approach of Koole et al. (2012) [15] and Legros et al. (2018) [20] for the G/M/1 queue. The idea is to provide a Markovian approximation where a state represents the oldest customer's wait. This modeling is made possible by creating states with negative wait, representing an estimate of the time at which a new customer would arrive when the system is empty. We apply this method for performance evaluation and routing optimization. Finally, we further extend the model to the G/M/1+G queue.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the transient behavior of a state dependent M/M/1/K queue during the busy period. We derive in closed-form the joint transform of the length of the busy period, the number of customers served during the busy period, and the number of losses during the busy period.
