The effect of boundary condition nonlinearities on free nonlinear vibrations of thin rectangular plates is analyzed. The method for analysis of the plate vibrations with geometrical nonlinearity and the boundary condition nonlinearity is suggested. The nonlinear boundary conditions for membrane forces are transformed into linear ones using the in-plane stress function. Additional boundary conditions for the in-plane displacements vanishing on the clamped edge of the plate are imposed on the stress function. Simply supported and cantilever plates are analyzed. The backbone curves obtained by satisfying linear and nonlinear boundary conditions are compared. It is shown that the results of the calculations with nonlinear boundary conditions differ essentially from the data obtained without these boundary conditions.  相似文献

In this paper, the nonreflecting boundary conditions based upon fundamental ideas of the linear analysis are developed for gas dynamic equations, and the modified boundary conditions for Navier-Stokes equations are proposed as a substitute of the nonreflecting boundary conditions inside boundary layers near rigid walls. These derived boundary conditions are then applied to calculations both for the Euler equations and the Navier-Stokes equations to determine if they can produce acceptable results for the subsonic flows in channels. The numerical results obtained by an implicit second-order upwind difference scheme show the effectiveness and generality of the boundary conditions. Numerical simulations of crystal defects are necessarily restricted to finite computational domains, supplying artificial boundary conditions that emulate the effect of embedding the defect in an effectively infinite crystalline environment. This work develops a rigorous framework within which the accuracy of different types of boundary conditions can be precisely assessed. We formulate the equilibration of crystal defects as variational problems in a discrete energy space and establish qualitatively sharp regularity estimates for minimisers. Using this foundation we then present rigorous error estimates for (i) a truncation method (Dirichlet boundary conditions), (ii) periodic boundary conditions, (iii) boundary conditions from linear elasticity, and (iv) boundary conditions from nonlinear elasticity. Numerical results confirm the sharpness of the analysis.  相似文献

Statistically equivalent representative volume elements or SERVEs are representations of the microstructure that are used for micromechanical simulations to generate homogenized material constitutive responses and properties (Swaminathan et al., 2006a, Ghosh, 2011). Typically, a SERVE is generated from the parent microstructure as a statistically equivalent region, whose size is determined from the requirements of convergence of macroscopic properties. Standard boundary conditions, such as affine transformation-based displacement boundary conditions (ATDBCs), uniform traction boundary conditions (UTBCs) or periodic boundary conditions (PBCs) are conventionally applied on the SERVE boundary for micromechanical simulations. However, when the microstructure is characterized by arbitrary, nonuniform distributions of heterogeneities, these simple boundary conditions do not represent the effect of regions exterior to the SERVE. Improper boundary conditions can result in significantly larger than optimal SERVE domains, needed for converged properties. In an attempt to overcome the limitations of the conventional boundary conditions on the SERVE, this paper explores the effect of boundary conditions that incorporate the statistics of the exterior region on the SERVE of elastic composites. Using Green's function based interaction kernels, coupled with statistical functions of the microstructural characteristics like one-point and two-point correlation functions, a novel exterior statistics-based boundary condition or ESBC is derived for the SERVE. The advantages of the ESBC are established by comparing with results of simulations using conventional boundary conditions. Results of the SERVE simulations subjected to ESBCs are also compared with those from other popular methods like statistical volume element (SVE) and weighted statistical volume element (WSVE). The proposed ESBCs offer significant advantages over other methods in the SERVE-based analysis of heterogeneous materials.  相似文献

A Green's function approach is used to formulate and obtain the stress field, under torsional loads in a radially finite solid cylinder with radially variable elastic modulus. With this approach a certain dual static-geometric analogy in the solution is readily proved and applied to generate the solution with stress boundary conditions from that with displacement boundary conditions and vice-versa.The problem is solved using both boundary conditions and for an exponentially varying shear modulus. In particular, under displacement boundary conditions, the stress field in the solid with a generalised Reissner-Sagoci boundary condition is easily deduced. With stress boundary conditions, the criteria for crack propagation in such elastic models are also obtained using the Griffith-Irwin condition of rupture.  相似文献

In this paper the performance of different free stream boundary conditions has been investigated. By performing two dimensional free jet calculations, a test case for which an analytical solution is available, it has been shown that boundary conditions in which the pressure is prescribed perform significantly better than boundary conditions in which the velocity is prescribed. Furthermore, it has been shown that pressure boundary conditions allow for much smaller computational domains than velocity (free-slip) boundary conditions.  相似文献

For incompressible Navier–Stokes equations in primitive variables, a method of setting absorbing outflow boundary conditions on an artificial boundary is considered. The advection equations used on the outflow boundary are convenient for finite difference (FD) methods, where a weak formulation of a problem is inapplicable. An unsteady viscous incompressible Navier–Stokes flow in a channel with a moving damper is modeled. An accurate comparison and analysis of numerical and mechanical situations are carried out for a variety of boundary conditions and Reynolds numbers. The proposed outflow conditions provide that the problem with Dirichlet boundary conditions should be solved on each time step.  相似文献

Approximate dynamic boundary conditions of different orders are derived for the case of a thin piezoelectric coating layer bonded to an elastic material. The approximate boundary conditions are derived using series expansions of the elastic displacements and the electric potential in the thickness coordinate of the layer. All the expansion functions are then eliminated with the aid of the equations of motion and boundary/interface conditions of the layer. This results in boundary conditions on the elastic material that may be truncated to different orders in the thickness of the layer to obtain approximate boundary conditions. The approximate boundary conditions may be used as a replacement for the piezoelectric layer and thus simplify the analysis significantly. Numerical examples show that the approximate boundary conditions give good results for low frequencies and/or thin piezoelectric layers.  相似文献
