Quadratic forms with values in invertible modules

LetR be a commutative ring,I an invertibleR-module, and consider quadratic spaces with values inI. The Clifford algebra of such a quadratic space is an algebra over the generalized Rees ring associated toI. We discuss the relation between the Witt module of quadratic spaces with values inI and the graded Witt ring and the graded Brauer-Wall group of the generalized Rees ring. This leads to the introduction of three distinguished subgroups of the graded Brauer-Wall group of the generalized Rees ring. The image of the Clifford functor is a subgroup of one of these three subgroups (the type 1 subgroup).     

Rees algebras and gröbner bases

This paper deals with the following problem. Robbiano showed in [9] that standard bases, Gröbner bases, Macaulay bases are all instances of the same general situation. In this paper, we develop this philosophy from the point of view of the Rees algebra R of a ring A w.r.t. a filtration F given on A. The ring R plays a fine job between A and the graded ring G associated to A, F. The use of R and the properties of termorderings and their relate Gröbner bases led naturally to the definition of Gröbnerfiltrations ingeneral commutative rings.     

A Family of Quotients of the Rees Algebra

A family of quotient rings of the Rees algebra associated to a commutative ring is studied. This family generalizes both the classical concept of idealization by Nagata and a more recent concept, the amalgamated duplication of a ring. It is shown that several properties of the rings of this family do not depend on the particular member.

On arithmetic Macaulayfication of Noetherian rings

The Rees algebra is the homogeneous coordinate ring of a blowing-up. The present paper gives a necessary and sufficient condition for a Noetherian local ring to have a Cohen-Macaulay Rees algebra: A Noetherian local ring has a Cohen-Macaulay Rees algebra if and only if it is unmixed and all the formal fibers of it are Cohen-Macaulay. As a consequence of it, we characterize a homomorphic image of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring. For non-local rings, this paper gives only a sufficient condition. By using it, however, we obtain the affirmative answer to Sharp's conjecture. That is, a Noetherian ring having a dualizing complex is a homomorphic image of a finite-dimensional Gorenstein ring.

On the Irreducible Components of the Form Ring and an Application to Intersection Cycles

Let A be a commutative Noetherian ring and I an ideal in A. We characterize algebraically when all the minimal primes of the associated graded ring G _I A contract to minimal primes of A/I. This, applied to intersection theory, means that there are no embedded distinguished varieties of intersection. The characterization is in terms of the analytic spread of certain localizations of I, the symbolic Rees algebra, and the normalization of the Rees algebra, and extends results of Huneke, Vasconcelos, and Martí-Farré.     

Orthogonal abelian Cartan subalgebra decomposition of 𝔰𝖑n over a finite commutative ring

Orthogonal decomposition of the special linear Lie algebra over the complex numbers was studied in the early 1980s and attracted further attentions in the past decade due to its application in quantum information theory. In this paper, we study this decomposition problem of the special linear Lie algebra over a finite commutative ring with identity.     

On arithmetic macaulayfication of certain local rings

Let A be a Noetherian ring.We consider the existence of Cohen-Macaulay Rees algebras of A. If the non-Cohen-Macaulay locus of A is of dimension 0, then we already know that such a Rees algebra exists. In the present paper, we show that such a Rees algebra also exists when the non-Cohen-Macaulay locus of A is of dimension 1.

On right S-Noetherian rings and S-Noetherian modules

In this paper we study right S-Noetherian rings and modules, extending notions introduced by Anderson and Dumitrescu in commutative algebra to noncommutative rings. Two characterizations of right S-Noetherian rings are given in terms of completely prime right ideals and point annihilator sets. We also prove an existence result for completely prime point annihilators of certain S-Noetherian modules with the following consequence in commutative algebra: If a module M over a commutative ring is S-Noetherian with respect to a multiplicative set S that contains no zero-divisors for M, then M has an associated prime.     

Symbolic powers,Serre conditions and Cohen-Macaulay Rees algebras

Summary LetR be a Cohen-Macaulay ring andI an unmixed ideal of heightg which is generically a complete intersection and satisfiesI ⁽ⁿ⁾=Iⁿ for alln≥1. Under what conditions will the Rees algebra be Cohen-Macaulay or have good depth? A series of partial answers to this question is given, relating the Serre condition (S _r ) of the associated graded ring to the depth of the Rees algebra. A useful device in arguments of this nature is the canonical module of the Rees algebra. By making use of the technique of the fundamental divisor, it is shown that the canonical module has the expected form: ω _R[It] ≅(t(1−t) ^g−2). On the artinianness of the local homology modules

In [9] a local homology theory for Artinian modules over commutative rings, which is dual to the local cohomology theory for Noetherian modules, introduced and in [1] the main result of [9] extended. In this note we prove that the local homology modules of an Artinian module over a commutative ring (with identity) are Artinian.     

The ring of quotients of R(S)

A ring of quotients of the semigroup ring R(S) is discussed where R has a σ-set Σ and S has a σ-set Δ. In particular, we study the cases where (1) R is an integral domain and S is a commutative cancellative semigroup, (2) R is a commutative ring and S is a semilattice and (3) R is a commutative ring and S is a Rees matrix semigroup over a semigroup. Generalized Jordan derivations on triangular matrix algebras

In this note, we prove that every generalized Jordan derivation from the algebra of all upper triangular matrices over a commutative ring with identity into its bimodule is the sum of a generalized derivation and an antiderivation.     

On the number of generators of a projective module

In this article we give a bound on the number of generators of a finitely generated projective module of constant rank over a commutative Noetherian ring in terms of the rank of the module and the dimension of the ring. Under certain conditions we provide an improvement to the Forster–Swan bound in case of finitely generated projective modules of rank n over an affine algebra over a finite field or an algebraically closed field.
