Chiral structures created through the adsorption of molecules onto achiral surfaces play pivotal roles in many fields of science and engineering. Here, we present a systematic study of a novel chiral phenomenon on a surface in terms of organizational chirality, that is, meso‐isomerism, through coverage‐driven hierarchical polymorphic transitions of supramolecular assemblies of highly symmetric π‐conjugated molecules. Four coverage‐dependent phases of dehydrobenzo[12]annulene were uniformly fabricated on Ag(111), exhibiting unique chiral characteristics from the single‐molecule level to two‐dimensional supramolecular assemblies. All coverage‐driven phase transitions stem from adsorption‐induced pseudo‐diastereomerism, and our observation of a lemniscate‐type (∞) supramolecular configuration clearly reveals a drastic chiral phase transition from an enantiomeric chiral domain to a meso‐isomeric achiral domain. These findings provide new insights into controlling two‐dimensional chiral architectures on surfaces.  相似文献

The two‐dimensional (2D) molecular ordering of two photochromic diarylethenes was investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy at the liquid–graphite interface. The racemic mixture of the closed‐ring isomer of one of the diarylethenes showed spontaneous separation of its enantiomers upon 2D crystallization, whereas that of the other diarylethene formed a pseudoracemic crystal in which two enantiomers coexist in a 2D ordering domain. The mixing of enantiomers in 2D assemblies can be analyzed by the dependence of the surface coverage on the concentration of enantiomers at different enantiomeric ratios.  相似文献

Two‐dimensional DNA lattices have been assembled from DNA double‐crossover (DX) motifs on DNA‐encoded surfaces in a site‐specific manner. The lattices contained two types of single‐stranded protruding arms pointing into opposite directions of the plane. One type of these protruding arms served to anchor the DNA lattice on the solid support through specific hybridization with surface‐bound, complementary capture oligomers. The other type of arms allowed for further attachment of DNA‐tethered probe molecules on the opposite side of the lattices exposed to the solution. Site‐specific lattice assembly and attachment of fluorophore‐labeled oligonucleotides and DNA–protein conjugates was demonstrated using DNA microarrays on flat, transparent mica substrates. Owing to their programmable orientation and addressability over a broad dynamic range from the nanometer to the millimeter length scale, such supramolecular architecture might be used for presenting biomolecules on surfaces, for instance, in biosensor applications.  相似文献

A fluid material with high protein content (120–310 mg mL−1) was formed through the ordered self‐assembly of native proteins segregated from water. This material is instantly prepared by the simple mixing of a protein solution with anionic and cationic surfactants. By changing the ratio of the surfactants based on the electrostatic characteristics of the target protein, we observed that the surfactants could function as a versatile molecular glue for protein assembly. Moreover, these protein assemblies could be disassembled back into an aqueous solution depending on the salt conditions. Owing to the water‐retaining properties of the hydrophilic part of surfactants, the proteins in this material are in a water‐rich environment, which maintains their native structure and function. The inclusion of water also provides functional extensibility to this material, as demonstrated by the preparation of an enzymatically active gel. We anticipate that the unique features of this material will permit the use of proteins not only in solution but also as elements of integrated functionalized materials.  相似文献
