The large-n expansion is applied to the calculation of thermal critical exponents describing the critical behavior of spatially anisotropic d-dimensional systems at m  -axial Lifshitz points. We derive the leading non-trivial 1/n1/n correction for the perpendicular correlation-length exponent νL2νL2 and hence several related thermal exponents to order O(1/n)O(1/n). The results are consistent with known large-n expansions for d  -dimensional critical points and isotropic Lifshitz points, as well as with the second-order epsilon expansion about the upper critical dimension d?=4+m/2d?=4+m/2 for generic m∈[0,d]m[0,d]. Analytical results are given for the special case d=4d=4, m=1m=1. For uniaxial Lifshitz points in three dimensions, 1/n1/n coefficients are calculated numerically. The estimates of critical exponents at d=3d=3, m=1m=1 and n=3n=3 are discussed.  相似文献

In this article we study in detail the supersymmetric structures that underlie the system of fermionic zero modes around a superconducting cosmic string. Particularly, we extend the analysis existing in the literature on the one dimensional N=2N=2 supersymmetry and we find multiple N=2N=2, d=1d=1 supersymmetries. In addition, compact perturbations of the Witten index of the system are performed and we find to which physical situations these perturbations correspond. More importantly, we demonstrate that there exists a much more rich supersymmetric structure underlying the system of fermions with NfNf flavors and these are NN-extended supersymmetric structures with non-trivial topological charges, with “NN” depending on the fermion flavors.  相似文献

We study the geometries generated by two-dimensional causal dynamical triangulations (CDT) coupled to d   massless scalar fields. Using methods similar to those used to study four-dimensional CDT we show that there exists a c=1c=1 “barrier”, analogous to the c=1c=1 barrier encountered in non-critical string theory, only the CDT transition is easier to be detected numerically. For d?1d?1 we observe time-translation invariance and geometries entirely governed by quantum fluctuations around the uniform toroidal topology put in by hand. For d>1d>1 the effective average geometry is no longer toroidal but “semiclassical” and spherical with Hausdorff dimension dH=3dH=3. In the d>1d>1 sector we study the time dependence of the semiclassical spatial volume distribution and show that the observed behavior is described by an effective mini-superspace action analogous to the actions found in the de Sitter phase of three- and four-dimensional pure CDT simulations and in the three-dimensional CDT-like Ho?ava–Lifshitz models.  相似文献

In this Letter we consider the previously proposed generalised space–time and investigate the structure of the field theory upon which it is based. In particular, we derive a SO(D,D)SO(D,D) formulation of the bosonic string as a non-linear realisation at lowest levels of E11sl1E11sl1 where l1l1 is the first fundamental representation. We give a Hamiltonian formulation of this theory and carry out its quantisation. We argue that the choice of representation of the quantum theory breaks the manifest SO(D,D)SO(D,D) symmetry but that the symmetry is manifest in a non-commutative field theory. We discuss the implications for the conjectured E11E11 symmetry and the role of the l1l1 representation.  相似文献

We construct spacetime supersymmetric, modular invariant partition functions of strings on the conifold-type singularities which include contributions from the discrete-series representations of SL(2,R)SL(2,R). The discrete spectrum is automatically consistent with the GSO projection in the continuous sector, and contains massless matter fields localized on a four-dimensional submanifold at the tip of a cigar. In particular, they are in the 27⊕1271 of E6E6 for the E8×E8E8×E8 heterotic string. We speculate about a possible realization of local E6E6 GUT by using this framework.  相似文献

The free Schrödinger theory in d   space dimensions is a non-relativistic conformal field theory. The interacting non-linear theory preserves this symmetry in specific numbers of dimensions at the classical (tree) level. This holds in particular for the |Φ|4|Φ|4-theory in d=2d=2. We compute the full quantum corrections to the 1PI 4-point function in d=2−?d=2? dimensions and find a non-trivial β  -function completely given by the 1-loop result. We exhibit an explicit Ward-identity showing that scale-invariance is broken in the limit d=2d=2 by an anomalous contribution proportional to the β-function.  相似文献

In this paper we continue our study of the dual SL(2,C)SL(2,C) symmetry of the BFKL equation, analogous to the dual conformal symmetry of N=4N=4 super-Yang–Mills. We find that the ordinary and dual SL(2,C)SL(2,C) symmetries do not generate a Yangian, in contrast to the ordinary and dual conformal symmetries in the four-dimensional gauge theory. The algebraic structure is still reminiscent of that of N=4N=4 SYM, however, and one can extract a generator from the dual SL(2,C)SL(2,C) close to the bi-local form associated with Yangian algebras. We also discuss the issue of whether the dual SL(2,C)SL(2,C) symmetry, which in its original form is broken by IR effects, is broken in a controlled way, similar to the way the dual conformal symmetry of N=4N=4 satisfies an anomalous Ward identity. At least for the lowest orders it seems possible to recover the dual SL(2,C)SL(2,C) by deforming its representation, keeping open the possibility that it is an exact symmetry of BFKL. Independently of a possible relation to N=4N=4 scattering amplitudes, this opens an avenue for explaining the integrability of BFKL in terms of two finite-dimensional subalgebras.  相似文献

Even though the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model is solvable by the Bethe ansatz, at half-filling its finite-temperature T>0T>0 transport properties remain poorly understood. In this paper we combine that solution with symmetry to show that within that prominent T=0T=0 1D insulator the charge stiffness D(T)D(T) vanishes for T>0T>0 and finite values of the on-site repulsion UU in the thermodynamic limit. This result is exact and clarifies a long-standing open problem. It rules out that at half-filling the model is an ideal conductor in the thermodynamic limit. Whether at finite TT and U>0U>0 it is an ideal insulator or a normal resistor remains an open question. That at half-filling the charge stiffness is finite at U=0U=0 and vanishes for U>0U>0 is found to result from a general transition from a conductor to an insulator or resistor occurring at U=Uc=0U=Uc=0 for all finite temperatures T>0T>0. (At T=0T=0 such a transition is the quantum metal to Mott-Hubbard-insulator transition.) The interplay of the ηη-spin SU(2)SU(2) symmetry with the hidden U(1)U(1) symmetry beyond SO(4)SO(4) is found to play a central role in the unusual finite-temperature charge transport properties of the 1D half-filled Hubbard model.  相似文献

Sinha and Vafa [1] had conjectured that the SO   Chern–Simons gauge theory on S3S3 must be dual to the closed A  -model topological string on the orientifold of a resolved conifold. Though the Chern–Simons free energy could be rewritten in terms of the topological string amplitudes providing evidence for the conjecture, we needed a novel idea in the context of Wilson loop observables to extract cross-cap c=0,1,2c=0,1,2 topological amplitudes. Recent paper of Marino [2] based on the work of Morton and Ryder [3] has clearly shown that the composite representation placed on the knots and links plays a crucial role to rewrite the topological string cross-cap c=0c=0 amplitude. This enables extracting the unoriented cross-cap c=2c=2 topological amplitude. In this paper, we have explicitly worked out the composite invariants for some framed knots and links carrying composite representations in U(N)U(N) Chern–Simons theory. We have verified generalised Rudolph's theorem, which relates composite invariants to the invariants in SO(N)SO(N) Chern–Simons theory, and also verified Marino's conjectures on the integrality properties of the topological string amplitudes. For some framed knots and links, we have tabulated the BPS integer invariants for cross-cap c=0c=0 and c=2c=2 giving the open-string topological amplitude on the orientifold of the resolved conifold.  相似文献

In the (super)twistor formulation of massless (super)particle mechanics, the mass-shell constraint is replaced by a “spin-shell” constraint from which the spin content can be read off. We extend this formalism to massive (super)particles (with NN-extended space–time supersymmetry) in three and four space–time dimensions, explaining how the spin-shell constraints are related to spin, and we use it to prove equivalence of the massive N=1N=1 and BPS-saturated N=2N=2 superparticle actions. We also find the supertwistor form of the action for “spinning particles” with NN-extended worldline supersymmetry, massless in four dimensions and massive in three dimensions, and we show how this simplifies special features of the N=2N=2 case.  相似文献

It is determined by JJ and the real part ΩΩ of the (2,0)(2,0)-form. We study the fermion zero-mode dynamics for open strings ending on the giant graviton branes. For the open string ending on the Z=0Z=0 brane, the quantization of the fermion zero-modes of boundary giant magnons reproduces the 256 states of the boundary degrees with the precise realization of the SU(2|2)×SU(2|2)SU(2|2)×SU(2|2) symmetry algebra. Also for the open string ending on the Y=0Y=0 brane, we reproduce the unique vacuum state from the fermion zero-modes.  相似文献

We revisit the notion of possible relativity or kinematic symmetries mutually connected through Lie algebra contractions under a new perspective on what constitutes a relativity symmetry. Contractions of an SO(m,n)SO(m,n) symmetry as an isometry on an m+nm+n dimensional geometric arena which generalizes the notion of spacetime are discussed systematically. One of the key results is five different contractions of a Galilean-type symmetry G(m,n)G(m,n) preserving a symmetry of the same type at dimension m+n−1m+n1, e.g.   a G(m,n−1)G(m,n1), together with the coset space representations that correspond to the usual physical picture. Most of the results are explicitly illustrated through the example of symmetries obtained from the contraction of SO(2,4)SO(2,4), which is the particular case for our interest on the physics side as the proposed relativity symmetry for “quantum spacetime”. The contractions from G(1,3)G(1,3) may be relevant to real physics.  相似文献

It is shown that four-dimensional N=1N=1 supersymmetric QCD with massive flavors in the fundamental representation of the gauge group can be realized in the hidden sector of E8×E8E8×E8 heterotic string vacua. The number of flavors can be chosen to lie in the range of validity of the free-magnetic dual, using which one can demonstrate the existence of long-lived meta-stable non-supersymmetric vacua. This is shown explicitly for the gauge group Spin(10)Spin(10), but the methods are applicable to Spin(Nc)Spin(Nc), SU(Nc)SU(Nc) and Sp(Nc)Sp(Nc) for a wide range of color index NcNc. Hidden sectors of this type can potentially be used as a mechanism to break supersymmetry within the context of heterotic M-theory.  相似文献

Using the form of N=2N=2 superconformal invariants we derive the explicit relation between the bottom and top components of the correlator of four stress-tensor multiplets in N=4N=4 super-Yang–Mills. The result is given in terms of an eighth order differential operator acting on the function of two variables which characterises these correlators. It allows us to show a non-trivial consistency relation between the known results for the corresponding supergravity amplitudes on AdS5AdS5.  相似文献
