We present bosonic actions which are equivalent to various chiral fermion theories. For the case of one chiral fermion coupled to an abelian gauge field, we present two bosonized actions, one corresponding to regularizing in the vector conserving scheme and the other in the left-right scheme. We then propose an action for the non-abelian bosonization of Weyl fermions which is a WZW action coupled to a fixed curved background. The chiral WZW action is then coupled to non-abelian gauge fields. We derive the anomalies of the axial current (in the vector conserving scheme) and the left-right currents (in the left-right regularization scheme), both for the abelian and non-abelian bosonized actions. The expressions for the anomalies are identical to those derived in the corresponding fermionic theories.  相似文献

The fusion products of admissible representations of the su(2) WZW model at the fractional level k=−4/3 are analysed. It is found that some fusion products define representations for which the spectrum of L0 is not bounded from below. Furthermore, the fusion products generate representations that are not completely reducible and for which the action of L0 is not diagonalisable. The complete set of representations that is closed under fusion is identified, and the corresponding fusion rules are derived.  相似文献

We present finite action classical solutions of the supersymmetric (Susy)U(N) sigma models with and without the Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) term. We derive solutions of the model with the WZW-term from the solutions of the Lax-pair problem for the corresponding model without this term. We study some properties of these solutions such as the value of their action and show that this value is related to that of the purely bosonicU(N) σ-model. Moreover, we prove that all derived solutions are unstable.  相似文献

The operator product coefficients for primary fields of theE 8 typesu(2) Wess-Zumino-Witten theory are calculated. The results confirm the equivalence of this theory to the level oneG 2 WZW theory. They can also be used to clarify the relation to the level three (A type)su(2) WZW theory.  相似文献

For non-abelian simple objects in a unitary modular category, the density of their braid group representations, the #P-hard evaluation of their associated link invariants, and the BQP-completeness of their anyonic quantum computing models are closely related. We systematically study such properties of the non-abelian simple objects in the metaplectic modular categories SO(m)2 for an odd integer m ≥ 3. The simple objects with quantum dimensions \({\sqrt{m}}\) have finite image braid group representations, and their link invariants are classically efficient to evaluate. We also provide classically efficient simulations of their braid group representations. These simulations of the braid group representations can be regarded as qudit generalizations of the Knill–Gottesmann theorem for the qubit case. The simple objects of dimension 2 give us a surprising result: while their braid group representations have finite images and are efficiently simulable classically after a generalized localization, their link invariants are #P-hard to evaluate exactly. We sharpen the #P-hardness by showing that any sufficiently accurate approximation of their associated link invariants is already #P-hard.  相似文献

We perform three tests on our proposal to implement diffeomorphism invariance in the non-abelian D0-brane DBI action as a base-point independence constraint between matrix Riemann normal coordinate systems. First, we show that T-duality along an isometry correctly interchanges the potential and kinetic terms in the action. Second, we show that the method to impose base-point independence using an auxiliary dN2-dimensional nonlinear sigma model also works for metrics which are curved along the brane, provided a physical gauge choice is made at the end. Third, we show that without alteration this method is applicable to higher order in velocities. Testing specifically to order 4, we elucidate the range of validity of the symmetrized trace approximation to the non-abelian DBI action.  相似文献

An indication for the existence of a collective Myers solution in the non-abelian D0-brane Born-Infeld action is the presence of a tachyonic mode in fluctuations around the standard diagonal background. We show that this computation for non-abelian D0-branes in curved space has the geometric interpretation of computing the eigenvalues of the geodesic deviation operator for U(N)-valued coordinates. On general grounds one therefore expects a geometric Myers effect in regions of sufficiently negative curvature. We confirm this by explicit computations for non-abelian D0-branes on a sphere and a hyperboloid. For the former the diagonal solution is stable, but not so for the latter. We conclude by showing that near a Schwarzschild black hole one also finds a tachyonic mode in the fluctuation spectrum, signaling the possibility of a near-black-hole gravitationally induced Myers effect.  相似文献

We consider quantum Hall droplets on complex projective spaces with a combination of Abelian and non-Abelian background magnetic fields. Carrying out an analysis similar to what was done for Abelian backgrounds, we show that the effective action for the edge excitations is given by a chiral, gauged Wess–Zumino–Witten (WZW) theory generalized to higher dimensions.  相似文献

We consider string junctions with endpoints on a set of branes of IIB string theory defining an ADE-type gauge Lie algebra. We show how to characterize uniquely equivalence classes of junctions related by string/brane crossing through invariant charges that count the effective number of prongs ending on each brane. Each equivalence class defines a point on a lattice of junctions. We define a metric on this lattice arising from the intersection pairing of junctions, and use self-intersection to identify junctions in the adjoint and fundamental representations of all ADE algebras. This information suffices to determine the relation between junction lattices and the Lie-algebra weight lattices. Arbitrary representations are built by allowing junctions with asymptotic (p,q) charges, on which the group of conjugacy classes of representations is represented additively. One can view the (p, q) asymptotic charges as Dynkin labels associated to two new fundamental weight vectors.  相似文献

Starting from a sigma‐model for a doubled target‐space geometry, we show that the number of target‐space dimensions can be reduced by half through a gauging procedure. We apply this formalism to a class of backgrounds relevant for double field theory, and illustrate how choosing different gaugings leads to string‐theory configurations T‐dual to each other. We furthermore discuss that given a conformal doubled theory, the reduced theories are conformal as well. As an example we consider the three‐dimensional WZW model and show that the only possible reduced backgrounds are the cigar and trumpet CFTs in two dimensions, which are indeed T‐dual to each other.  相似文献

Using a path integral technique we find a closed expression (to all orders in α′) for the abelian, constant field strenght limit of the (tree) effective action for the massless vector field in the open superstring theory. The result is a modification of the Born-Infeld action found in the Bose string theory case. One-loop correction to the effective action is computed and shown to be finite if the gauge group is SO(32). It is demonstrated how the on-shell superstring scattering amplitudes can be calculated in the path-integral approach. We determine the leading (O(α') and O(α2)) terms in the full non-abelian effective action starting from the known results for the 3-point and 4-point amplitudes. We find that because of the equivalence theorem the coefficients of some of the invariant structures in the effective lagrangian cannot be fixed from the S-matrix. In the path integral approach this ambiguity manifests itself as a 2d renormalization scheme (and Weyl gauge choice) ambiguity. We also discuss the leading terms in the gravitational effective actions in the closed (super) string theories and point out that whether or not the R2 terms form the “Gauss-Bonnet” combination depends on choice of a renormalization (massless exchange subtraction) scheme.  相似文献

In this article we study the extensions of Banach space representations of a Lie group G. We introduce different spaces of 1-cohomology on G, or on its Lie algebra G, and make the connection between these spaces and the equivalence (or weak equivalence) classes of extensions. We characterize, from the properties of the 1-cohomology groups, the spaces of differentiable and analytic vectors of an extension and prove a kind of Whitehead's lemma. For Lie groups with a large compact subgroup K, we specialize to K-finite representations, and introduce and study Naimark equivalence of extensions. The results are applied to classify the extensions of the irreducible representations of G = SL(2, R).  相似文献

We describe relationships between integrable systems with N degrees of freedom arising from the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa conjecture. Namely, we prove the equivalence (spectral duality) between the N-cite Heisenberg spin chain and a reduced gl N Gaudin model both at classical and quantum level. The former one appears on the gauge theory side of the Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa relation in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (and further the Seiberg-Witten) limit while the latter one is natural on the CFT side. At the classical level, the duality transformation relates the Seiberg-Witten differentials and spectral curves via a bispectral involution. The quantum duality extends this to the equivalence of the corresponding Baxter-Schrödinger equations (quantum spectral curves). This equivalence generalizes both the spectral self-duality between the 2 × 2 and N × N representations of the Toda chain and the famous Adams-Harnad-Hurtubise duality.  相似文献

The appearance of the Bethe Ansatz equation for the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the equivariant integration over the moduli space of Higgs bundles is revisited. We argue that the wave functions of the corresponding two-dimensional topological U(N) gauge theory reproduce quantum wave functions of the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the N-particle sector. This implies the full equivalence between the above gauge theory and the N-particle sub-sector of the quantum theory of the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This also implies the explicit correspondence between the gauge theory and the representation theory of the degenerate double affine Hecke algebra. We propose a similar construction based on the G/G gauged WZW model leading to the representation theory of the double affine Hecke algebra.  相似文献

The dynamics of abelian vector and antisymmetric tensor gauge fields can be described in terms of twisted self-duality equations. These first-order equations relate the p-form fields to their dual forms by demanding that their respective field strengths are dual to each other. It is well known that such equations can be integrated to a local action that carries on equal footing the p-forms together with their duals and is manifestly duality invariant. Space-time covariance is no longer manifest but still present with a non-standard realization of space-time diffeomorphisms on the gauge fields. In this paper, we give a non-abelian generalization of this first-order action by gauging part of its global symmetries. The resulting field equations are non-abelian versions of the twisted self-duality equations. A key element in the construction is the introduction of proper couplings to higher-rank tensor fields. We discuss possible applications (to Yang-Mills and supergravity theories) and comment on the relation to previous no-go theorems.  相似文献
