We calculate the scalar Casimir energy and Casimir force for an ℝ3 × N Kaluza-Klein piston setup in which the extra-dimensional space N contains a noncommutative two-dimensional sphere S fz. We study the cases with T d ×S fz and S fz as the extra-dimensional spaces, where T d is the d-dimensional commutative torus, and examine the validity of the results and the regularization obtained in the piston setup in each case. We examine the Casimir energy with one-loop corrections for one piston chamber due to the self-interacting scalar field in the noncommutative geometry. We compute with some approximations. We compare the obtained results with the results of analogous computations for the Minkowski space-time M D . In conclusion, we discuss the stabilization of the extra-dimensional space in the piston setup.  相似文献

Complementing and generalizing classical as well as recent results, we prove asymptotically optimal formulas for the Gelfand and approximation numbers of identities EnFn, where En and Fn denote the n-th sections of symmetric quasi-Banach sequence spaces E and F satisfying certain interpolation assumptions. We derive stencils, i.e., difference schemes, for differential operators for which the discretization error becomes isotropic in the lowest order. We treat the Laplacian, Bilaplacian (= biharmonic operator), and the gradient of the Laplacian both in two and three dimensions. For three dimensions ??(h2) results are given while for two dimensions both ??(h2) and ??(h4) results are presented. The results are also available in electronic form as a Mathematica file. We investigate pointed Hopf algebras over finite nilpotent groups of odd order, with nilpotency class 2. For such a group G, we show that if its commutator subgroup coincides with its center, then there exists no non-trivial finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebra with kG as its coradical. We apply these results to non-abelian groups of order p3, p4 and p5, and list all the pointed Hopf algebras of order p6, whose group of grouplikes is non-abelian.  相似文献

We give bordism-finiteness results for smooth S 3-manifolds. Consider the class of oriented manifolds which admit an S 1-action with isolated fixed points such that the action extends to an S 3-action with fixed point. We exhibit various subclasses, characterized by an upper bound for the Euler characteristic and properties of the first Pontryagin class p 1, for example p 1 = 0, which contain only finitely many oriented bordism types in any given dimension. Also we show finiteness results for homotopy complex projective spaces and complete intersections with S 3-action as above.  相似文献

Let R be the classical Radon transform that integrates a function over hyperplanes in Rn and let SM be the transform that integrates a function over spheres containing the origin in Rn. We prove continuity results for both transforms and explicitly give the null space of R for a class of square integrable functions on the exterior of a ball in Rn as well as the null space of SM for square integrable functions on a ball. We show SM: L2(Rn) → L2(Rn) is one-one, and we characterize the range of SM on classes of smooth functions and square integrable functions by certain moment conditions. If g(x) is a Schwartz function on Rn that is zero to infinite order at x = 0, we prove moment conditions sufficient for g to be in the range of SM(C(Rn)). We apply our results on SM to existence and uniqueness theorems for solutions to a characteristic initial value problem for the Darboux partial differential equation.  相似文献

Abstract

Spectral theory in ordered Banach algebras (OBAs) has been investigated and several authors have made contributions. However, the results are not applicable to non-commutative C*-algebras, since a non-commutative C*-algebra is not an OBA. In this paper we introduce a more general structure, called a commutatively ordered Banach algebra (COBA), which includes the class of OBAs. Every C* - algebra is a COBA. We will give the basic properties of COBAs and show how known results in OBAs can be generalized to the COBA setting. We will then discuss two spectral problems regarding COBA elements. The results obtained, of course, hold true in an OBA as well. These results extend the theory of COBAs and OBAs.  相似文献

We study L 2-Betti numbers for von Neumann algebras, as defined by D. Shlyakhtenko and A. Connes in [CoS]. We give a definition of L 2-cohomology and show how the study of the first L 2-Betti number can be related to the study of derivations with values in a bi-module of affiliated operators. We show several results about the possibility of extending derivations from sub-algebras and about uniqueness of such extensions. In particular, we show that the first L 2-Betti number of a tracial von Neumann algebra coincides with the corresponding number for an arbitrary weakly dense sub-C*-algebra. Along the way, we prove some results about the dimension function of modules over rings of affiliated operators which are of independent interest. We establish the connection between the boundedness of convolution operators on Hp(ℝN) and some related operators on Hp(ℤN). The results we obtain here extend the already known for Lp spaces with p > 1. We also study similar results for maximal operators given by convolution with the dilation of a fixed kernel. Our main tools are some known results about functions of exponential type already presented in [BC1] that, in particular, allow us to prove a sampling theorem for functions of exponential type belonging to Hardy spaces  相似文献

The statistical problem addressed in this paper is to approximate the P value of the maximum of a smooth random field of Wilks’s Λ statistics. So far results are only available for the usual univariate statistics (Z, t, χ2, F) and a few multivariate statistics (Hotelling’s T 2, maximum canonical correlation, Roy’s maximum root). We derive results for any differentiable scalar function of two independent Wishart random fields, such as Wilks’s Λ random field. We apply our results to a problem in brain shape analysis.  相似文献

We study an evolution equation proposed by Chapman, Rubinstein, and Schatzman as a mean‐field model for the evolution of the vortex density in a superconductor. We treat the case of a bounded domain where vortices can exit or enter the domain. We show that the equation can be derived rigorously as the gradient flow of some specific energy for the Riemannian structure induced by the Wasserstein distance on probability measures. This leads us to some existence and uniqueness results and energy‐dissipation identities. We also exhibit some “entropies” that decrease through the flow and allow us to get regularity results (solutions starting in Lp, p > 1, remain in Lp). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

We consider the stability of an efficient Crank–Nicolson–Adams–Bashforth method in time, finite element in space, discretization of the Leray‐α model. We prove finite‐time stability of the scheme in L2, H1, and H2, as well as the long‐time L‐stability of the scheme under a Courant‐Freidrichs‐Lewy (CFL)‐type condition. We examine the interpolation with periodic polynomial splines of degree d and defect r (dr) on equidistant partitions of the real axis and generalize known results for r = 0. We prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence and a certain L2-stability of the interpolants as well as their approximation properties in the scale of the periodic SOBOLEV spaces.  相似文献

We show that if a Barker sequence of length n > 13 exists, then either n = 189 260 468 001 034 441 522 766 781 604, or n > 2 · 1030. This improves the lower bound on the length of a long Barker sequence by a factor of more than 107. We also show that all but fewer than 1600 integers n ≤ 4 · 1026 can be eliminated as the order of a circulant Hadamard matrix. These results are obtained by completing extensive searches for Wieferich prime pairs (q, p), which are defined by the relation qp-1 o 1{q^{p-1} \equiv1} mod p 2, and analyzing their results in combination with a number of arithmetic restrictions on n.  相似文献

We deal with the numerical solution of a scalar nonstationary nonlinear convection‐diffusion equation. We employ a combination of the discontinuous Galerkin finite element (DGFE) method for the space as well as time discretization. The linear diffusive and penalty terms are treated implicitly whereas the nonlinear convective term is treated by a special higher order explicit extrapolation from the previous time step, which leads to the necessity to solve only a linear algebraic problem at each time step. We analyse this scheme and derive a priori asymptotic error estimates in the L(L2) –norm and the L2(H1) –seminorm with respect to the mesh size h and time step τ. Using the derivational formulas for stripes we derive in section 1 the derivational formulas for spacecurves in three-dimensional conformal spaceM 3. With a curve we associate locally a one-parameter family of so calledQ 4-surfaces having contact of order 5. AQ 4-surface is generated by two special parabolic pencils of spheres. We investigate alsoQ 4-surfaces having contact of orderk(k=7,8). Section 2 deals with isogonal-trajectories on the surface of the principal circles of the given spacecurve. We avoid invariant parameters as used in projective geometry for getting results of conformal geometry.  相似文献

We study the structure of finitely generated shift-invariant subspaces with generators from the super Hilbert space L 2(? d )(N). We give a characterization for these subspaces. Moreover, we show that every finitely generated shift-invariant subspace possesses a tight frame. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for such a space to be principal. Our results generalize similar ones for which generators are from L 2(? d ).  相似文献

We present a direct and rather elementary method for defining and analyzing one-dimensional Schrödinger operators H = −d2/dx2 + μ with measures as potentials. The basic idea is to let the (suitably interpreted) equation −f′′ + μ f = zf take center stage.We show that the basic results from direct and inverse spectral theory then carry over to Schrödinger operators with measures.  相似文献
