Embedding an AH-Algebra into a Simple C*-Algebra with Prescribed KK-Data

Let X be a connected finite CW complex. We show that, given a positive homomorphism Hom(K _*(C(X)), K _*(A)) with [1 _C(X)][1 _A ], where A is a unital separable simple C ^*-algebra with real rank zero, stable rank one and weakly unperforated K ₀(A), there exists a homomorphism h: C(X)A such that h induces . We also prove a structure result for unital separable simple C ^*-algebras A with real rank zero, stable rank one and weakly unperforated K ₀(A), namely, there exists a simple AH-algebra of real rank zero contained in A which determines the K-theory of A.     

Homotopy of a Pair of Approximately Commuting Unitaries in a Simple C*-Algebra

It is shown that, for a class of unital C*-algebras including purely infinite simple C*-algebras, real rank zero simple A algebras, and AF algebras, ifuandvare almost commuting unitaries whereuhas trivialK₁-class,vhas full spectrum, and a certainK₀-valued obstruction associated to the pairu,vis trivial, thenucan be deformed to 1 through a path of unitaries in the algebra almost commuting withv, and the length of the path can be estimated by a universal constant. This result is used to identify the obstruction with Loring's Bott element associated to the pairu,vand also to prove the more universal statement that if (u_i, v_i),i=1, 2, are two pairs of almost commuting unitaries with [u_i]₁, [v_i]₁, and Bott (u_i, v_i) each independent ofi, then one pair can be deformed into the other along a path of pairs of almost commuting unitaries in the algebra, the length of the path being bounded by a universal constant.     

Homomorphic Feller Cocycles on a C*-Algebra

When a Fock-adapted Feller cocycle on a C*-algebra is regular,completely positive and contractive, it possesses a stochasticgenerator that is necessarily completely bounded. Necessaryand sufficient conditions are given, in the form of a sequenceof identities, for a completely bounded map to generate a weaklymultiplicative cocycle. These are derived from a product formulafor iterated quantum stochastic integrals. Under two alternativeassumptions, one of which covers all previously considered cases,the first identity in the sequence is shown to imply the rest.     

Existence of Feller Cocycles on a C*-Algebra

The quantum stochastic differential equation is considered on a unital C^*-algebra, with separablenoise dimension space. Necessary conditions on the matrix ofbounded linear maps for the existence of a completely positivecontractive solution are shown to be sufficient. The C*-Algebra of a Function Algebra

We associate to each function algebra a C*-algebra and investigate its properties. We are particularly interested in those of its properties that are important for the Toeplitz operator theory on Hardy spaces of representing measures of the function algebra.     

On C *-Extreme Maps and *-Homomorphisms of a Commutative C *-Algebra

The generalized state space of a commutative C^*-algebra, denoted , is the set of positive unital maps from C(X) to the algebra of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space . C^*-convexity is one of several non-commutative analogs of convexity which have been discussed in this context. In this paper we show that a C^*-extreme point of satisfies a certain spectral condition on the operators in the range of the associated positive operator-valued measure. This result enables us to show that C^*-extreme maps from C(X) into , the algebra generated by the compact and scalar operators, are multiplicative. This generalizes a result of D. Farenick and P. Morenz. We then determine the structure of these maps. This paper constitutes a part of the author’s Ph.D. thesis at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.     

On the Universal C*-Algebra Generated by a Partial Isometry

A universal C*-algebra is constructed which is generated by a partial isometry. Using grading on this algebra we construct an analog of Cuntz algebras which gives a homotopical interpretation of KK-groups. It is proved that this algebra is homotopy equivalent up to stabilization by 2×2 matrices to M ₂(C). Therefore those algebras are KK-isomorphic.

Stability of the C *-Algebra Associated with Twisted CCR

The universal enveloping C ^*-algebra A of twisted canonical commutation relations is considered. It is shown that, for any (–1,1), the C ^*-algebra A is isomorphic to the C ^*-algebra A ₀ generated by partial isometries t _i ,t _i ^*,i=1,¨,d satisfying the relations t _i ^* t _j = _ij (1– _k<i t _k t _k ^*), t _j t _i =0, ij and it is proved that the Fock representation of A is faithful.     

Linear Functional Equations in Banach Modules over a C *-Algebra

The paper is a survey on the Hyers–Ulam–Rassias stability of linear functional equations in Banach modules over a C ^*-algebra. Its contents is divided into the following sections: 1. Introduction; 2. Stability of the Cauchy functional equation in Banach modules; 3. Stability of the Jensen functional equation in Banach modules; 4. Stability of the Trif functional equation in Banach modules; 5. Stability of cyclic functional equations in Banach modules over a C ^*-algebra; 6. An Invertibility Criterion in a C*-Algebra Acting on the Hardy Space with Applications to Composition Operators

In this paper, we prove an invertibility criterion for certain operators which is given as a linear algebraic combination of Toeplitz operators and Fourier multipliers acting on the Hardy space of the unit disc. Very similar to the case of Toeplitz operators, we prove that such operators are invertible if and only if they are Fredholm and their Fredholm index is zero. As an application, we prove that for “quasi-parabolic” composition operators the spectra and the essential spectra are equal.     

Fourier Invariant Partially Approximating Subalgebras of the Irrational Rotation C*-Algebra

For a dense G-set of parameters, the irrational rotation algebrais shown to contain infinitely many C*-subalgebras satisfyingthe following properties. Each subalgebra is isomorphic to adirect sum of two matrix algebras of the same (perfect square)dimension; the Fourier transform maps each summand onto theother; the corresponding unit projection is approximately central;the compressions of the canonical generators of the irrationalrotation algebra are approximately contained in the subalgebra.2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 46L80, 46L40, 46L35.     

Metric Geometry in Homogeneous Spaces of the Unitary Group of a C*-Algebra. Part II. Geodesics Joining Fixed Endpoints

This article focuses on the study of the metric geometry of homogeneous spaces (the unitary group of a C*-algebra modulo the unitary group of a C*-subalgebra ) where the invariant Finsler metric in is induced by the quotient norm of Under the assumption that is of compact type, i.e. when the unitary group is relatively compact in the strong operator topology, this work presents local and global versions of Hopf-Rinow-like theorems: given points there exists a minimal uniparametric group curve joining ρ₀ and ρ₁.     

Crossed Product of a C *-Algebra by a Semigroup of Endomorphisms Generated by Partial Isometries

The paper presents a construction of the crossed product of a C^*- algebra by a semigroup of endomorphisms generated by partial isometries. This work was in part supported by Polish Ministry of Science and High Education grant number N N201 382634.     

The Spectrum of the C*-Algebra of Pseudodifferential Boundary Value Problems on a Manifold with Smooth Edges

The C ^*-algebra generated by the operators of pseudodifferential boundary value problems on a manifold with smooth closed disjoint edges and boundary is studied. Simple C*-Algebras with Unique Tracial States and Quantized Topological Spaces

Let X be a connected finite CW complex and d _X : K ₀(C(X)) →ℤ be the dimension function. We show that, if A is a unital separable simple nuclear C*-algebra of TR(A) = 0 with the unique tracial state and satisfying the UCT such that K ₀(A) = ℚ⊕ kerd _x and K ₁(A) = K ₁(C(X)), then A is isomorphic to an inductive limit of M _{n !}(C(X)).
