This paper presents a solution of a sequence of one-dimensional boundary-value problems of thermal stresses defining the elastic–plastic deformation processes used in the shrink fitting of cylindrical bodies. The initiation and development of plastic flow in the materials of the assembly elements are studied taking into account the temperature dependence of the yield stress of these materials. During temperature equalization, the flow can slow down, followed by unloading and formation of a residual stress field providing tension. The conditions of formation and motion of the boundaries of the elastic and plastic states in plastic flow and during unloading are determined.  相似文献

Features of the propagation of longitudinal and transverse plane waves along the layers of nanocomposites with process-induced initial stresses are studied. The composite has a periodic structure: it is made by repeating two highly dissimilar layers. The layers exhibit nonlinear elastic behavior in the range of loads under consideration. A Murnaghan-type elastic potential dependent on the three invariants of the strain tensor is used to describe the mechanical behavior of the composite constituents. To simulate the propagation of waves, finite-strain theory is used for developing a problem statement within the framework of the three-dimensional linearized theory of elasticity assuming finite initial strains. The dependence of the relative velocities of longitudinal and transverse waves on two components of small initial stresses in each layer and on the volume fraction of the constituents is studied. In this paper, interfacial excess energy and interfacial excess stress for coherent interfaces in an elastic solid are reformulated within the framework of continuum mechanics. It is shown that the well-known Shuttleworth relationship between the interfacial excess energy and interfacial excess stress is valid only when the interface is free of transverse stresses. To account for the transverse stress, a new relationship is derived between the interfacial excess energy and interfacial excess stress. Dually, the concept of transverse interfacial excess strain is also introduced, and the complementary Shuttleworth equation is derived that relates the interfacial excess energy to the newly introduced transverse interfacial excess strain. This new formulation of interfacial excess stress and excess strain naturally leads to the definition of an in-plane interfacial stiffness tensor, a transverse interfacial compliance tensor and a coupling tensor that accounts for the Poisson's effect of the interface. These tensors fully describe the elastic behavior of a coherent interface upon deformation.  相似文献

Many materials are polycrystalline media or hardened mechanical mixtures of complicated structure. For small elastic strains, they behave as isotropic media. But under stresses exceeding the elastic limit, these materials exhibit effects related to strain anisotropy. The problem of quantitatively estimating this phenomenon still remains open. In the present paper, without any assumptions, we reduce the nonlinear Novozhilov equations to a form typical of the constitutive relations for orthotropic media. We obtain expressions for generalized nonlinear elasticity characteristics by choosing a specific expression for the strain potential. We derive working formulas for calculating the elasticity coefficients in the principal directions and of all coefficients of the transverse strains and shear moduli in the principal planes of elastic symmetry. We describe methods for determining them from the results of extension-compression tests. We also analyze several results of tests published on this subject. We show that the effect related to the anomalous behavior of the transverse strain coefficient, which is observed both under compression and under tension, can be explained completely if the fact that the plastic strain is accompanied with strain anisotropy effects is taken into account.  相似文献

Some new classes of constitutive relations for elastic bodies have been proposed in the literature, wherein the stresses and strains are obtained from implicit constitutive relations. A special case of the above relations corresponds to a class of constitutive equations where the linearized strain tensor is given as a nonlinear function of the stresses. For such constitutive equations we consider the problem of decomposing the stresses into two parts: one corresponds to a time-independent solution of the boundary value problem, plus a small (in comparison with the above) time-dependent stress tensor. The effect of this initial time-independent stress in the propagation of a small wave motion is studied for an infinite medium.  相似文献

The constraint of in-plane rigidity is examined within the general framework of the theory of internally constrained materials. It is shown that, for in-plane rigid materials, local strain and active stress are both defined by vectorial quantities. Representation formulae for the elastic response mapping are established in the cases of transverse isotropy and maximal symmetry, compatible with the constraint manifold. The equilibrium problem for an elastic body reinforced with parallel inextensible planes is also considered. In particular, universal solutions for bodies with maximal material symmetry are determined within the class of deformations which leave rigid every reinforcing plane.  相似文献

Based on the nonlinear Hoek–Brown failure criterion, elastoplastic analytical solutions are developed for the elastoplastic stresses, strains and plastic zones around a circular tunnel subjected to different value of the axial in situ stress. Effects of the transverse in situ stress, the axial in situ stress and the strength parameters of rock masses on the elastoplastic stresses, strains and plastic zones in the surrounding rock masses are investigated. It is found from the numerical results that the stresses, strains, and plastic zones in the surrounding rock depend not only on the transverse in situ stress but also on the axial in situ stress as well as the mechanical parameters of rock masses.  相似文献

Recent morphological studies have demonstrated a laminar (sheet) organization of ventricular myofibers. Multiaxial measurements of orthotropic myocardial constitutive properties have not been reported, but regional distributions of three-dimensional diastolic and systolic strains relative to fiber and sheet axes have recently been measured in the dog heart by Takayama et al. [30]. A three-dimensional finite-deformation, finite element model was used to investigate the effects of material orthotropy on regional mechanics in the canine left ventricular wall at end-diastole and end-systole. The prolate spheroidal model incorporated measured transmural distributions of fiber and sheet angles at the base and apex. Compared with transverse isotropy, the orthotropic model of passive myocardial properties yielded improved agreement with measured end-diastolic strains when: (1) normal stiffness transverse to the muscle fibers was increased tangent to the sheets and decreased normal to them; (2) shear coefficients were increased within sheet planes and decreased transverse to them. For end-systole, orthotropic passive properties had little effect, but three-dimensional systolic shear strain distributions were more accurately predicted by a model in which significant active systolic stresses were developed in directions transverse to the mean fiber axis as well as axial to them. Thus the ventricular laminar architecture may give rise to anisotropic material properties transverse to the fibers with greater resting stiffness within than between myocardial laminae. There is also evidence that intact ventricular muscle develops significant transverse stress during systole, though it remains to be seen if active stress is also orthotropic with respect to the laminar architecture. A method is proposed to study the distribution of residual stresses in a semicircular notch in a hollow cylindrical specimen after advanced surface plastic deformation. The initial information used in the method is one or two experimentally determined components of the residual stress tensor in the hardened layer of the smooth specimen. The problem is solved using a finite element technique taking into account initial plastic strains, which are set in correspondence to the residual stresses according to the laws of elasticity. The effect of the hardening technology and notch depth on the distribution of residual stresses is studied. Experimental verification of the method showed that the calculated and experimental data on the stress distribution over the depth of the layer are in good agreement.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to the study of dynamical problems for moving cracks in materials with initial stresses, taking into account the author's previous publications on this subject. Stresses and displacements in linearized theory are represented through analytic functions of complex variables in dynamical problems. Exact solutions of dynamical problems are obtained for moving cracks in materials with initial stresses in the case of transverse shear (Mode II) and longitudinal shear (Mode III); these results are obtained for general cases of equal and unequal roots of the basic equation. New mechanical effects are analyzed in the dynamical problems under consideration. The results are obtained for compressible and incompressible bodies with elastic potentials of arbitrary structure. Thermal deformations and stresses were studied in a silicon-carbide/aluminum filamentary composite at temperatures up to 370°C (700°F). Longitudinal and transverse thermal strains were measured with strain gages and a dilatometer. An elastoplastic micromechanical analysis based on a one-dimensional rule-of-mixtures model and an axisymmetric two-material composite cylinder model was performed. It was established that beyond a critical temperature thermal strains become nonlinear with decreasing longitudinal and increasing transverse thermal-expansion coefficients. This behavior was attributed to the plastic stresses in the aluminum matrix above the critical temperature. An elastoplastic analysis of both micromechanical models was performed to determine the stress distributions and thermal deformation in the fiber and matrix of the composite. While only axial stresses can be determined by the rule-of-mixtures model, the complete triaxial state of stress is established by the composite cylinder model. Theoretical predictions for the two thermal-expansion coefficients were in satisfactory agreement with experimental results.  相似文献

In engineering processes, residual stresses can be intense once high plastic deformation and temperature gradient are involved. This is exactly the case for friction stir welding (FSW) in which both rotational and translational movements of the tool induce extreme temperature gradient and plastic deformation. In this research, the extents of longitudinal and transverse residual stresses are measured within the AA7075-T6 plates welded through FSW process using ultrasonic method. According to the obtained results, it can be found that the residual stress is of the tensile type adjacent to the welding line whereas it is of the compressive type far from the welding line. Another observation is that the longitudinal residual stresses are considerably greater than the transverse residual stresses. Furthermore, with the aim of investigating the effects of rotation and traverse velocities of the tool on residual stress, experiments are carried out at three different rotation and traverse velocities. Based on the acquired results, it is observed that upon increasing the rotation and traverse velocities, the longitudinal and transverse residual stresses decrease and increase, respectively.  相似文献

The paper presents a procedure for the formulation of constitutive equations for rate-independent pseudoelastic SMA material models. The procedure applies a rheological scheme representing mechanical properties of the material. An additive decomposition of strains into two parts is proposed. The first part describes strains of a perfectly elastic body while the second part may be represented by a combination of a rigid perfectly elastic body and a rigid perfectly plastic body. It is demonstrated that the key problem of formulation of constitutive relationships is to derive the 1st order differential equation with respect to the tensor describing the second part of the strain field. This equation may be obtained in explicit form starting from the variational inequalities defining non-elastic parts of rheological model. The uniqueness of the obtained differential equation has been proved. A numerical implementation of the constitutive relationships of SMA material was done through the user subroutine module VUMAT within the FE commercial code ABAQUS/Explicit. As an example we analyzed the problem of vibration of a simple 3D structure made of SMA.  相似文献
