Two problems on plane decaying surface waves in an inhomogeneous medium are under consideration: the problem where the waves similar to Rayleigh waves propagate in an isotropic elastic half-space that borders with a layer of an ideal incompressible fluid and the problem where the waves similar to Love waves propagate in a semi-infinite saturated porous medium that borders with a layer of an isotropic elastic medium.  相似文献

The problem of diffraction of waves due to plane harmonic SH-waves incident normally on a line crack situated in an infinite micropolar elastic medium has been considered. The solution of the problem is obtained for both low and high frequencies for small coupling parameter. The stress-intensity factors in micropolar elastic medium have been derived. The stress-intensity factor for such problem in an elastic medium can be deduced from results obtained in this paper. It is also found that the effect of micropolarity in the propagation of waves is more significant in high frequencies than low frequencies.  相似文献

This article deals with a certain type of wave in an infinite elastic medium. In contrast to ordinary longitudinal and transverse waves, the amplitude of the type of wave in question depends sinusoidally on the coordinates of a plane which is transverse to the direction of propagation of the wave, i.e., the wave is actually a packet of travelling and stationary waves. Longitudinal waves of this type are always coupled with transverse waves, while transverse waves of the given type may be coupled with longitudinal waves or another transverse wave or may exist as a single wave in the form of a packet containing a travelling wave and a stationary wave. The coupled waves have two phase velocities, which depend on the mechanical properties of the medium, the frequency of vibration, and the wave numbers of the stationary waves. Coupled surface waves in an elastic medium are more general in character than Rayleigh waves; they exhibit dispersion, and they can be used to explain certain seismological observations made during earthquakes—the complete absence of vertical displacements in some cases and the frequent occurrence of horizontal displacements parallel to the wave front. Allowing for the coupling of elastic waves in a layer leads to a more general characteristic equation than the equation obtained in the Rayleigh-Lamb problem. S. P. The dispersion law ceases to be linear already at ultrasonic frequencies of elastic vibrations of particles as mechanical perturbation waves propagate through the medium. A variant of the continuum model of an elastic medium is proposed which is based on the assumption of pair and triplet potential interaction between infinitely small particles; this allows one to represent the dispersion law with any required accuracy. The corresponding wave equation, which is still linear, can have an arbitrarily large order of partial derivatives with respect to the coordinates. It is suggested that the results of comparing the representations of the dispersion law from the elasticity and solid-state physics viewpoints should be used to determine nonclassical characteristics of the elastic state of the medium. The theoretical conclusions are illustrated with calculations performed for plane waves propagating through aluminum.  相似文献

It has been known since the time of Biot–Gassman theory (Biot, J Acoust Soc Am 28:168–178, 1956, Gassmann, Naturf Ges Zurich 96:1–24, 1951) that additional seismic waves are predicted by a multicomponent theory. It is shown in this article that if the second or third phase is also an elastic medium then multiple p and s waves are predicted. Futhermore, since viscous dissipation no longer appears as an attenuation mechanism and the media are perfectly elastic, these waves propagate without attenuation. As well, these additional elastic waves contain information about the coupling of the elastic solids at the pore scale. Attempts to model such a medium as a single elastic solid causes this additional information to be misinterpreted. In the limit as the shear modulus of one of the solids tends to zero, it is shown that the equations of motion become identical to the equations of motion for a fluid filled porous medium when the viscosity of the fluid becomes zero. In this limit, an additional dilatational wave is predicted, which moves the fluid though the porous matrix much similar to a heart pumping blood through a body. This allows for a connection with studies which have been done on fluid-filled porous media (Spanos, 2002).  相似文献

The effect of second- and third-order nonlinearities on transverse shear waves in an elastic medium is examined. It is found that waveform distortion and shock development occur on a length scale which is an order of magnitude greater than for longitudinal waves. Explicit solutions for modulated traveling waves are obtained.  相似文献

This study is concerned with the reflection and transmission of plane waves at an imperfectly bonded interface between two orthotropic micropolar elastic half-spaces with different elastic and micropolar properties. There exist three types of coupled waves in xy-plane. The reflection and transmission coefficients of quasi-longitudinal (QLD) wave, quasi-coupled transverse microrotational (QCTM) wave and quasi-coupled transverse displacement (QCTD) wave have been derived for different incidence waves and deduced for normal force stiffness, transverse force stiffness, transverse couple stiffness and perfect bonding. The numerical values of modules of the reflection and transmission coefficients are presented graphically with the angle of incidence for orthotropic micropolar medium (MOS) and isotropic micrpolar medium (MIS). Some particular cases of interest have been deduced from the present investigation.  相似文献

The paper presents the effect of a rigid boundary on the propagation of torsional surface waves in a porous elastic layer over a porous elastic half-space using the mechanics of the medium derived by Cowin and Nunziato (Cowin, S. C. and Nunziato, J. W. Linear elastic materials with voids. Journal of Elasticity, 13(2), 125–147 (1983)). The velocity equation is derived, and the results are discussed. It is observed that there may be two torsional surface wave fronts in the medium whereas three wave fronts of torsional surface waves in the absence of the rigid boundary plane given by Dey et al. (Dey, S., Gupta, S., Gupta, A. K., Kar, S. K., and De, P. K. Propagation of torsional surface waves in an elastic layer with void pores over an elastic half-space with void pores. Tamkang Journal of Science and Engineering, 6(4), 241–249 (2003)). The results also reveal that in the porous layer, the Love wave is also available along with the torsional surface waves. It is remarkable that the phase speed of the Love wave in a porous layer with a rigid surface is different from that in a porous layer with a free surface. The torsional waves are observed to be dispersive in nature, and the velocity decreases as the oscillation frequency increases.  相似文献

This paper presents an analysis of wave propagation in a microstretch elastic medium in the context of the Green–Naghdi (GN) theory. Moreover, the dissipation and the influence of gravity on reflected waves have also been investigated. In the present article, five reflected waves propagate into the medium for any incident wave. The problem is solved numerically, and the amplitude ratios are graphically represented allowing for a comparison between the simple GN theory and the case in which one considers the effect of gravity on waves.  相似文献

The problem of diffraction of waves due to plane harmonic P-wave incident normally on a line crack situated in an infinite micro-polar elastic medium has been studied in this paper. The problem has been solved for both low and high frequencies for small coupling parameter. The stress intensity factors (SIF) have been obtained in micro-polar elastic medium from which the corresponding stress intensity factor for classical elastic medium can be deduced.  相似文献

The rotation of an elastic medium makes it act anisotropically and dispersively. The eigenvectors for plane wave propagation are in general complex and thus the waves are elliptically polarized. In general the waves are neither pure shear nor pure compressional waves, and their speeds depend on the ratio of rotational frequency of the medium and the angular frequency of the wave. The class of problems discussed here involves waves propagating perpendicularly to the axis of rotation and in particular we discuss plane strain modes. The reflection and refraction of plane waves is considered. The plane waves are used to construct a general solution in cylindrical coordinates. The solution is given in terms of Bessel functions. The cylindrical solution is applied to scattering by circular cylinders. The problem of free oscillations is mentioned briefly.  相似文献

The mixture theory is employed to the analysis of surface-wave propagation in a porous medium saturated by two compressible and viscous fluids (liquid and gas). A linear isothermal dynamic model is implemented which takes into account the interaction between the pore fluids and the solid phase of the porous material through viscous dissipation. In such unsaturated cases, the dispersion equations of Rayleigh and Love waves are derived respectively. Two situations for the Love waves are discussed in detail: (a) an elastic layer lying over an unsaturated porous half-space and (b) an unsaturated porous layer lying over an elastic half-space. The wave analysis indicates that, to the three compressional waves discovered in the unsaturated porous medium, there also correspond three Rayleigh wave modes (R1, R2, and R3 waves) propagating along its free surface. The numerical results demonstrate a significant dependence of wave velocities and attenuation coefficients of the Rayleigh and Love waves on the saturation degree, excitation frequency and intrinsic permeability. The cut-off frequency of the high order mode of Love waves is also found to be dependent on the saturation degree.  相似文献

Propagation of SH waves in an irregular monoclinic crustal layer   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The present paper discusses the dispersion equation for SH waves in a monoclinic layer over a semi-infinite elastic medium with an irregularity. In the absence of the irregularity, the dispersion equation reduces to standard dispersion equation for SH waves in a monoclinic layer over an isotropic semi-infinite medium. The dispersion curves for different size of the irregularity are computed and compared for the half-space without any irregularity. It can be seen that the phase velocity is strongly influenced by the wave number and the depth of the irregularity.  相似文献

The influence of an external medium on the evolution of two-dimensional long non-linear strain waves in an elastic plate is studied. The governing non-linear equations for longitudinal and shear waves are obtained. A threshold value of the external medium parameter is found that separates the existence of either one-dimensional (or plane) localized strain wave or two-dimensional localized strain wave. A considerable increase in the amplitude of the wave is found during the formation of the two-dimensional localized strain wave from an arbitrary initial pulse.  相似文献

This research addresses the investigation of an elastic wave field in a homogeneous and isotropic porous medium which is fully saturated by a Newtonian viscous fluid. A new methodology is developed for describing the wave field in the medium excited by multiple energy sources. To quantify the relative displacements between the fluid and solid of the medium, the governing equations of the elastic wave propagation are derived in the form of displacements specially. The velocities and attenuation of the waves are considered as functions of viscosity and frequency. Making use of the Hankel function and the moving-coordinate method, a model of the wave motion with multiple cylindrical wave sources is built. Making use of the model established in this research, the relative displacement between the fluid and the solid can be quantified, and the wave field in the porous media can then be determined with the given energy sources. Numerical simulations of cylindrical waves from multiple energy sources propagating in the porous medium saturated by viscous fluid are performed for demonstrating the practicability of the model developed.  相似文献

Transport equations for elastic and other waves in random media   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
We derive and analyze transport equations for the energy density of waves of any kind in a random medium. The equations take account of nonuniformities of the background medium, scattering by random inhomogeneities, polarization effects, coupling of different types of waves, etc. We also show that diffusive behavior occurs on long time and distance scales and we determine the diffusion coefficients. The results are specialized to acoustic, electromagnetic, and elastic waves. The analysis is based on the governing equations of motion and uses the Wigner distribution.  相似文献

The theory of Tuncay and Corapcioglu (Transp Porous Media 23:237–258, 1996a) has been employed to investigate the possibility of plane wave propagation in a fractured porous medium containing two immiscible fluids. Solid phase of the porous medium is assumed to be linearly elastic, isotropic and the fractures are assumed to be distributed isotropically throughout the medium. It has been shown that there can exist four compressional waves and one rotational wave. The phase speeds of these waves are found to be affected by the presence of fractures, in general. Of the four compressional waves, one arises due to the presence of fractures in the medium and the remaining three are those encountered by Tuncay and Corapcioglu (J Appl Mech 64:313–319, 1997). Reflection and transmission phenomena at a plane interface between a uniform elastic half-space and a fractured porous half-space containing two immiscible fluids, are analyzed due to incidence of plane longitudinal/transverse wave from uniform elastic half-space. Variation of modulus of amplitude and energy ratios with the angle of incidence are computed numerically by taking the elastic half-space as granite and the fractured porous half-space as sandstone material containing non-viscous wetting and non-wetting fluid phases. The results obtained in case of porous half-space with fractures, are compared graphically with those in case of porous half-space without fractures. It is found that the presence of fractures in the porous half-space do affect the reflection/transmission of waves, which is responsible for raising the reflection and lowering the transmission coefficients.  相似文献

In this paper, the basic equations of motion, of Gauss and of heat conduction, together with constitutive relations for pyro- and piezoelectric media, are presented. Three thermoelastic theories are considered: classical dynamical coupled theory, the Lord–Shulman theory with one relaxation time and Green and Lindsay theory with two relaxation times. For incident elastic longitudinal, potential electric and thermal waves, referred to as qP, φ-mode and T-mode waves, which impinge upon the interface between two different transversal isotropic media, reflection and refraction coefficients are obtained by solving a set of linear algebraic equations. A case study is investigated: a system formed by two semi-infinite, hexagonal symmetric, pyroelectric–piezoelectric media, namely Cadmium Selenide (CdSe) and Barium Titanate (BaTiO3). Numerical results for the reflection and refraction coefficients are obtained, and their behavior versus the incidence angle is analyzed. The interaction with the interface give rises to different kinds of reflected and refracted waves: (i) two reflected elastic waves in the first medium, one longitudinal (qP-wave) and the other transversal (qSV-wave), and a similar situation for the refracted waves in the second medium; (ii) two reflected potential electric waves and a similar situation for the refracted waves; (iii) two reflected thermal waves and a similar situation for the refracted waves. The amplitudes of the reflected and refracted waves are functions of the incident angle, of the thermal relaxation times and of the media elastic, electric, thermal constants. This study is relevant to signal processing, sound systems, wireless communications, surface acoustic wave devices and military defense equipment.  相似文献
