We present a novel algorithm for full-range imaging by suppression of the complex conjugate artifact in phase-shifting Fourier domain optical coherence tomography. This technique utilizes the projection of multiple phase-shifted interferograms onto an orthogonal basis set to reconstruct the complex interferogram. Full-range imaging with >30 dB suppression of the symmetric artifact is demonstrated using a 3 x 3 fiber coupler swept source OCT system, providing a depth range of 6.6mm with -8 dB roll-off in sensitivity at the depth boundaries relative to DC. Real-time display of full-range images of the anterior segment of the human eye acquired in vivo at a line rate of 6.67 kHz are presented.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance (MR) images acquired with fast measurement often display poor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast. With the advent of high temporal resolution imaging, there is a growing need to remove these noise artifacts. The noise in magnitude MR images is signal-dependent (Rician), whereas most de-noising algorithms assume additive Gaussian (white) noise. However, the Rician distribution only looks Gaussian at high SNR. Some recent work by Nowak employs a wavelet-based method for de-noising the square magnitude images, and explicitly takes into account the Rician nature of the noise distribution. In this article, we apply a wavelet de-noising algorithm directly to the complex image obtained as the Fourier transform of the raw k-space two-channel (real and imaginary) data. By retaining the complex image, we are able to de-noise not only magnitude images but also phase images. A multiscale (complex) wavelet-domain Wiener-type filter is derived. The algorithm preserves edges better when the Haar wavelet rather than smoother wavelets, such as those of Daubechies, are used. The algorithm was tested on a simulated image to which various levels of noise were added, on several EPI image sequences, each of different SNR, and on a pair of low SNR MR micro-images acquired using gradient echo and spin echo sequences. For the simulated data, the original image could be well recovered even for high values of noise (SNR approximately 0 dB), suggesting that the present algorithm may provide better recovery of the contrast than Nowak's method. The mean-square error, bias, and variance are computed for the simulated images. Over a range of amounts of added noise, the present method is shown to give smaller bias than when using a soft threshold, and smaller variance than a hard threshold; in general, it provides a better bias-variance balance than either hard or soft threshold methods. For the EPI (MR) images, contrast improvements of up to 8% (for SNR = 33 dB) were found. In general, the improvement in contrast was greater the lower the original SNR, for example, up to 50% contrast improvement for SNR of about 20 dB in micro-imaging. Applications of the algorithm to the segmentation of medical images, to micro-imaging and angiography (where the correct preservation of phase is important for flow encoding to be possible), as well as to de-noising time series of functional MR images, are discussed.  相似文献

Robust and fast fat suppression is a challenge in balanced steady-state free precession (SSFP) magnetic resonance imaging. Although single-acquisition phase-sensitive SSFP can provide fat-suppressed images in short scan time, phase errors, especially spatially-dependent phase shift, caused by a variety of factors may result in misplacement of fat and water voxels. In this paper, a novel phase correction algorithm was used to calibrate those phase errors during image reconstruction. This algorithm corrects phase by region growing, employing both the magnitude and the phase information of image pixels. Phantom and in vivo imagings were performed to validate the technique. As a result, excellent fat-suppressed images were acquired by using single-acquisition phase-sensitive SSFP with phase correction.  相似文献

We introduce a simple and cheap method for phase-shifting Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (FDOCT) that does not need additional devices and can easily be implemented. A small beam offset at the fast beam-scanning mirror introduces a causal phase shift, which can be used for B-scan-based complex image reconstruction. We derive the conditions for optimal conjugate suppression and demonstrate the method on human skin in vivo for spectrometer-based FDOCT operating at 1300 nm employing a handheld scanner.  相似文献

A conjugate image plane correlator with holographic disk memory is proposed. Optical correlation between conjugate images reconstructed from a holographic disk and an input image on liquid-crystal television is executed with the rotation of the disk. Regardless of Fourier hologram recording with the pseudorandom diffuser, it is found possible to take out the diffuser from the original hologram recording scheme using an image reconstruction process and to get correlation signals between input and reconstructed conjugate images in the output plane of a two-lens imaging system. Generation of conjugate replicas with high contrast causes exact matching with an input image which results in high recognition performance for autocorrelation signals. The transfer function of an optical system can be controlled by adjustment of either hologram size or hologram area illuminated with a laser beam. Hence, the output intensity distribution can be adjusted by selecting a proper pupil function and the size of an output pupil defined by the input pupil size and the optical system magnification factor. The real-time character recognition by optical parallel high-speed processing for two dimensional images with position normalization is demonstrated.  相似文献

In this study, we describe the development of two-dimensional, high repetition-rate (10-kHz) Rayleigh scattering imaging as applied to turbulent flows. In particular, we report what we believe to be the first sets of high-speed 2D Rayleigh scattering images in turbulent non-reacting jets, yielding temporally correlated image sequences of the instantaneous mixture fraction field. Results are presented for turbulent jets of propane issuing into a low-speed co-flow of air at jet-exit Reynolds numbers of 10,000, 15,000, and 30,000 at various axial positions downstream of the jet exit. The quantitative high-speed mixture fraction measurements are facilitated by the use of a calibrated, un-intensified, high-resolution CMOS camera in conjunction with a unique high-energy, high-repetition rate pulse-burst laser system (PBLS) at Ohio State, which yields output energies of ∼200 mJ/pulse at 532 nm with 100-μs laser pulse spacing. The quality, accuracy, and resolution of the imaging system and the resulting image sets are assessed by (1) comparing the mean mixture fraction results to known scaling laws for turbulent jets, (2) comparing instantaneous images/mixture fraction profiles acquired simultaneously with the high-speed CMOS camera and a well-characterized, high-quantum efficiency CCD camera, and (3) comparing statistical quantities such as the probability density function of the mixture fraction results using the high-speed CMOS camera and the CCD camera. Results indicate accurate mixture fraction measurements and a high potential for accurately measuring mixture fraction gradients in both time and space.  相似文献

A high-speed (47,000 A-scans/s), ultrahigh axial resolution Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) system for retinal imaging at approximately 1060 nm, based on a 1024 pixel linear array, 47 kHz readout rate InGaAs camera is presented. When interfaced with a custom superluminescent diode (lambda(c) = 1020 nm, Deltalambda = 108 nm, Pout = 9 mW), the system provides 3.3 microm axial OCT resolution at the surface of biological tissue, approximately 4.5 microm in vivo in rat retina, approximately 5.7 microm in vivo in human retina, and 110 dB sensitivity for 870 microW incident power and 21 mus integration time. Retinal tomograms acquired in vivo from a human volunteer and a rat animal model show clear visualization of all intraretinal layer and increased penetration into the choroid.  相似文献

We present high-resolution in vivo anatomical scans with 3D whole-brain coverage and an isotropic resolution of 0.6 mm, obtained at a clinical field of 1.5 T. The data are acquired in 10 independent scans over two sessions using a 3D magnetization-prepared, gradient echo sequence, modified to output phase images in addition to magnitude images. The independent scans are coregistered to correct for head motion, prior to performing complex averaging. The resolution of the final, averaged image, is found to be equal to the nominal one.  相似文献

A novel, fast entropy-minimization algorithm for bias field correction in magnetic resonance (MR) images is suggested to correct the intensity inhomogeneity degradation of MR images that has become an increasing problem with the use of phased-array coils. Four important modifications were made to the conventional algorithm: (a) implementation of a modified two-step sampling strategy for stacked 2D image data sets, which included reducing the size of the measured image on each slice with a simple averaging method without changing the number of slices and then using a binary mask generated by a histogram threshold method to define the sampled voxels in the reduced image; (b) improvement of the efficiency of the correction function by using a Legendre polynomial as an orthogonal base function polynomial; (c) use of a nonparametric Parzen window estimator with a Gaussian kernel to calculate the probability density function and Shannon entropy directly from the image data; and (d) performing entropy minimization with a conjugate gradient method. Results showed that this algorithm could correct different types of MR images from different types of coils acquired at different field strengths very efficiently and with decreased computational load.  相似文献

An analysis of optical injection on a gain-switched distributed feedback (DFB) laser and its impact on pulse parameters that influence the performance of the pulse source in high-speed optical communication systems is presented in this paper. A range of 10 GHz in detuning and 5 dB in injected power has been experimentally identified to attain pulses, from an optically injected gain-switched DFB laser, with durations below 10 ps and pedestal suppression higher than 35 dB. These pulse features are associated with a side mode suppression ratio of about 30 dB and a timing jitter of less than 1 ps. This demonstrates the feasibility of using optical injection in conjunction with appropriate pulse compression schemes for developing an optimized and cost-efficient pulse source, based on a gain-switched DFB laser, for high-speed photonic systems.  相似文献

T2-weighted carotid artery images acquired using the turbo spin-echo (TSE) sequence frequently suffer from motion artifacts due to respiration and blood pulsation. The possibility of using HASTE sequence to achieve motion-free carotid images was investigated. The HASTE sequence suffers from severe blurring artifacts due to signal loss in later echoes due to T2 decay. Combining HASTE with parallel acquisition (PHASTE) decreases the number of echoes acquired and thus effectively reduces the blurring artifact caused by T2 relaxation. Further improvement in image sharpness can be achieved by performing T2 decay compensation before reconstructing the PHASTE data. Preliminary results have shown successful suppression of motion artifacts with PHASTE imaging. The image quality was enhanced relative to the original HASTE image, but was still less sharp than a non-motion-corrupted TSE image.  相似文献

Eddy current induced geometric distortions can only be accurately corrected in brain diffusion-weighted echo-planar (DW-EP) images for b-values less than approximately 300 s mm(-2) using the iterative cross-correlation (ICC) algorithm. This is due to the difference in signal intensity of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compartment in the diffusion-weighted and baseline T(2)-weighted echo-planar (T2W-EP) images. At larger values of b, image misalignment artefacts can, however, be removed by directly correlating CSF-suppressed T2W-EP images with non-CSF-suppressed and CSF-suppressed DW-EP images. Separate phantom experiments can also be performed to provide eddy current calibration data. Here the ability of these methods to remove eddy current induced artefacts from DW-EP images collected in volunteer diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) experiments is investigated. Monte Carlo simulations show that in order for the ICC algorithm to produce accurate estimates of the eddy current induced distortions at b-values greater than 1000 s mm(-2), the degree of CSF suppression should be greater than approximately 80%. This condition is typically met for FLAIR inversion times between 0.5 and 0.8 of the spin-lattice relaxation time of CSF. In volunteer studies the most complete image realignment was provided by direct correlation of CSF-suppressed T2W-EP and DW-EP images acquired in the FLAIR DTI experiment. These results indicate that although calibration data obtained from brain or phantom images can significantly reduce eddy current induced distortions, the optimum image realignment achievable using post-processing methods is likely to be that obtained by direct image warping techniques.  相似文献

For sparse sampling that accelerates magnetic resonance (MR) image acquisition, non-linear reconstruction algorithms have been developed, which incorporated patient specific a prior information. More generic a prior information could be acquired via deep learning and utilized for image reconstruction. In this study, we developed a volumetric hierarchical deep residual convolutional neural network, referred to as T-Net, to provide a data-driven end-to-end mapping from sparsely sampled MR images to fully sampled MR images, where cartilage MR images were acquired using an Ultra-short TE sequence and retrospectively undersampled using pseudo-random Cartesian and radial acquisition schemes. The network had a hierarchical architecture that promoted the sparsity of feature maps and increased the receptive field, which were valuable for signal synthesis and artifact suppression. Relatively dense local connections and global shortcuts were established to facilitate residual learning and compensate for details lost in hierarchical processing. Additionally, volumetric processing was adopted to fully exploit spatial continuity in three-dimensional space. Data consistency was further enforced. The network was trained with 336 three-dimensional images (each consisting of 32 slices) and tested by 24 images. The incorporation of a priori information acquired via deep learning facilitated high acceleration factors (as high as 8) while maintaining high image fidelity (quantitatively evaluated using the structural similarity index measurement). The proposed T-Net had an improved performance as compared to several state-of-the-art networks.  相似文献

Color digital holography utilizing the Doppler effect is proposed. The time variation of holograms produced by superposing images at three wavelengths is recorded using a high-speed monochromatic imaging sensor. The complex amplitude at each wavelength can be extracted from frequency information contained in the Fourier transforms of the recorded holograms. An image of the object is reconstructed by the angular spectrum method. Reconstructed monochromatic images at the three wavelengths are combined to produce a color image for display.  相似文献

Previous studies have shown that T2(dagger)-weighted magnetic resonance images acquired using localization by adiabatic selective refocusing (LASER) can provide early tissue contrast following ischemia, possibly due to alterations in microscopic susceptibility within the tissue. The purpose of this study was to make a direct in vivo comparison of T2-, T2(dagger)- and diffusion-weighted image contrast during acute ischemia. Acute middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion was attempted in 14 rats using a modified Tamura approach incorporating electrocoagulation of the left MCA. T2(dagger)-weighted LASER images (Echo Time [TE]=108 ms), T2-weighted Carr-Purcell-Meiboom-Gill (CPMG) images (TE=110 ms) and diffusion-weighted images (b value=105 s/mm(2)) were acquired at 4 T within 1.5 h of ischemia onset. Tissue contrast in the MCA territory was quantified for histologically verified ischemic tissue (n=6) and in sham controls (n=4). T2(dagger)-weighted LASER images demonstrated greater contrast compared to the T2-weighted CPMG images, and more focal contrast compared to the diffusion-weighted images, suggesting different contrast mechanisms were involved.  相似文献

Stimulated-echo acquisition mode (STEAM) is a key pulse sequences in MRI in general, and in cardiac imaging in particular. Fat suppression is an important feature in cardiac imaging to improve visualization and eliminate off-resonance and chemical-shift artifacts. Nevertheless, fat suppression comes at the expense of reduced temporal resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The purpose of this study is to develop an efficient fat suppression method (Spectrally-Presaturated Modulation) for STEAM-based sequences to enable imaging with high temporal-resolution, high SNR, and no increase in scan time. The developed method is based on saturating the fat magnetization prior to applying STEAM modulation; therefore, only the water-content of the tissues is modulated by the sequence, resulting in fat-suppressed images without the need to run the fat suppression module during image acquisition. The potential significance of the proposed method is presented in two STEAM-based cardiac MRI applications: complementary spatial-modulation of magnetization (CSPAMM), and black-blood cine imaging. Phantom and in vivo experiments are conducted to evaluate the developed technique and compare it to the commonly implemented chemical-shift selective (CHESS) and water-excitation using spectral-spatial selective pulses (SSSP) fat suppression techniques. The results from the phantom and in vivo experiments show superior performance of the proposed method compared to the CHESS and SSSP techniques in terms of temporal resolution and SNR. In conclusion, the developed fat suppression technique results in enhanced image quality of STEAM-based images, especially in cardiac applications, where high temporal-resolution is imperative for accurate measurement of functional parameters and improved performance of image analysis algorithms.  相似文献

Reflective terahertz imaging of porcine skin burns   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A reflective pulsed terahertz imaging system based on direct detection was developed and used to obtain high-resolution images of a porcine skin specimen with superficial partial-thickness (second-degree) burns. Images were also obtained of the sample through ten layers of dry medical (cotton) gauze with minimal image degradation. The burned and unburned regions of skin had large differences in terahertz reflectivity, displaying clear delineation [20 dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) difference signal] between both regions in the images. The terahertz images also exhibited a "halo" surrounding the burn areas that may correlate to the extent of burn injury. The system operated at a center frequency of 500 GHz with 125 GHz of 3 dB bandwidth and used whiskbroom scanning to generate images with a spatial resolution of 1.5 mm. Each pixel was acquired with a 16 ms integration time, resulting in a 40 dB postdetection SNR. The simplicity and high SNR of the reflective terahertz system are promising steps toward real-time terahertz medical imaging.  相似文献

We use the Pancharatnam-Berry phase as a multifunctional tool for low-coherence interferometry. This geometric phase shift enables instantaneous retrieval of the quadrature components of the complex interferometric signal. The phase shift is independent of wavelength and allows for a complex conjugate suppression of 40?dB for an optical bandwidth of 115?nm. Furthermore, this paper investigates the versatility of the geometric phase to perform polarization sensitive measurements. The Jones vector of the sample was obtained numerically, allowing sample birefringence and optical axis calculation.  相似文献
