A rigorous solution consistent with a plane wave approximation is given to the boundary problem for Maxwell’s equations for surface optical waves at the boundary with a nonlinear Kerr medium. Exact formulas for the flux intensity (J 0) and energy density (W 0) of these waves are derived depending on the parameters of the adjacent media and the propagation constant (ξ). It is shown that these variables as functions of ξ have minima. Thus, J 0 and W 0 increase sharply as the propagation constant deviates from the minimum value ξmin. Their values are greater, the larger the difference between the dielectric constants of the linear and nonlinear media is. An expression for the propagation velocity of a nonlinear surface wave is also obtained.  相似文献

The influence of the molecular subsystem on the properties of surface-type waves (STW’s) propagating along a plasma-metal boundary is examined with consideration of the thermal motion of the electrons. The dynamics of the molecular subsystem is described using the equation for the polarization vector, which is equivalent to a quantum-mechanical treatment of a rarefied gas with phenomenological consideration of the dissipation. A dispersion equation for surface-type waves is obtained. The molecular subsystem influences both the phase velocity of the waves and the penetration depth. An analysis is made of the experimental investigations of the surface waves existing at the interface between a homogeneous medium and a periodically stratified medium that represents a bounded system of coupled waveguides. It is shown that, in all cases of the observation of surface waves, the bounded system of coupled waveguides has its own spectrum of guided modes and a spectrum of leaky modes that become surface waves of the system. It is also demonstrated that a biosensor can successfully operate when two surface waves serve as leaky modes of a Bragg waveguide in which the periodic system of waveguides is used as a distributed Bragg mirror of this waveguide. A structure supporting surface waves is designed on the basis of ten pairs of Nb2O5-SiO2 layers and implemented experimentally. The surface waves are detected with a K8 glass prism according to the Kretschmann scheme.  相似文献

A study is made of surface waves of the potential type propagating along the interface between a metal and a plasma of nonuniform density, with the thermal motion of the electrons taken into account. Dispersion relation for these waves are derived and solved for a linear plasma density profile. Propagation of surface waves on the surface of a monoclinic piezoelectric crystal has been studied taking into account the coupling of temperature field, a situation which is considered to be quite realistic. The possibility of the existence of a leaky Stoneley wave at a uniformly moving interphase boundary defined as a jump in the acoustic parameters of an isotropic elastic medium is discussed. It is shown that the motion of the interphase boundary exerts dissimilar effects on the orientation of the wave normals of partial waves forming the Stoneley wave, and this results in different Doppler shifts of the frequencies of the partial waves in the laboratory frame of reference.  相似文献

Radiowave scattering by a two-layered medium with a rough boundary is studied in the Kirchhoff approximation. We consider the case of oblique incidence of waves and mean square heights of the upper boundary roughnesses, which are nonsmall compared with the wavelength λ. An analytical expression and the conditions under which P1 turns out to be large are derived for the term P1 of the two-frequency correlation function P = (Em(w1)En(w2)), which is proportional to the first degree of the coefficient of reflection from the lower boundary. Such effect is shown to emerge only for the resonant frequency relation. In particular, the following resonant relationship is written for the mirror reflection direction: w2,1(√ε-sin2θ/cosθ-1), where θ is the incidence angle and ε is the layer permittivity. This paper reports on the results of investigating the frequency dependence, the structure, and the polarization-and energy-related characteristics of surface electromagnetic waves propagating along a superconductor-dielectric interface. An expression for the complex permittivity of a superconductor is derived in the approximation of a two-component plasma containing “normal” and “superconducting” electrons. Basic relations are obtained in the general case at temperatures TT c (where T c is the critical temperature) and in the limiting case at T?T c, when the contribution from normal electrons to the permittivity of the superconductor can be disregarded.  相似文献

Light scattering was used to study surface acoustic waves at a free-metalized interface on piezoelectric lithium niobate. An interaction region of several acoustic wavelengths was observed in which a reflected surface wave and a continuous spectrum of bulk waves are generated.  相似文献

The average reflected field and the second moment of the scattered field of the main polarization are found and analyzed in the approximation of a small jump of the dielectric constant when a horizontally polarized wave is reflected by a two-layer medium with a rough upper boundary. It is shown that the oscillations due to frequency changes predicted by perturbation theory do not exist when the scattering parameter is large. Sounding at close angles of incidence and scattering is the most efficient method of layer thickness determination by the scattered radiation. The propagation of surface-type potential waves along the interfacial boundary of a plasma with an ideally conducting metal in an external magnetic field perpendicular to the boundary is examined. It is shown that a necessary condition for the existence of these waves in the system is a finite gas kinetic pressure. Dispersion relations for these waves and expressions for the penetration depth of the wave fields into the plasma are obtained, and they are studied numerically for various plasma parameters. The frequency region for propagation of these waves is found. It is also shown that in a nonzero external magnetic field a system of this kind has a range of frequencies in which the wave is a generalized surface wave. Zh. Tekh.
