peri-Acenes have shown great potential for use as functional materials because of their open-shell singlet biradical character. However, only a limited number of peri-acene derivatives larger than peri-tetracene have been synthesized to date, presumably owing to the low stability of the target compounds in addition to the complicated synthesis scheme. Here, a very simple synthesis route for the tetrabenzo[a,f,j,o]perylene (TBP) structure enables the development of highly stable peri-tetracene analogues. Despite a high degree of singlet biradical character, the compounds with four substituents at the zigzag edge show a remarkable stability in solution under ambient conditions, which is better than that of acene derivatives with a closed-shell electronic configuration. The crystal structures of the TBP derivatives were obtained for the first time; these are valuable to understand the relationship between the structure and biradical character of peri-acenes. The application of peri-acenes in electronic devices should also be investigated. Therefore, the semiconducting properties of the TBP derivative were investigated by fabricating the field-effect transistors.

Highly stable peri-tetracene analogues with a high degree of singlet biradical character were synthesized in a very simple route, and their crystal structures and semiconducting properties were investigated.  相似文献

Methyl groups widely exist in bioactive molecules, and site-specific methylation has become a valuable strategy for their structural functionalization. Aiming to introduce this smallest alkyl handle, a highly regioselective peri- and ortho-C–H methylation of 1-naphthaldehyde by using a transient ligand strategy has been developed. A series of methyl-substituted naphthalene frameworks have been prepared in moderate to excellent yields. Mechanistic studies demonstrate that peri-methylation is controlled by the higher electronic density of the peri-position of 1-naphthaldehyde as well as the formation of intermediary 5,6-fused bicyclic palladacycles, whereas experimental studies and theoretical calculations inferred that a 5-membered iridacycle at the ortho-position of 1-naphthaldehyde leads to energetically favorable ortho-methylation via an interconversion between the peri-iridacycle and ortho-iridacycle. Importantly, to demonstrate the synthetic utility of this method, we show that this strategy can serve as a platform for the synthesis of multi-substituted naphthalene-based bioactive molecules and natural products.

This work provides a highly regioselective peri- and ortho-C–H methylation of 1-naphthaldehyde by using a transient ligand strategy, enabling practical synthesis of multi-substituted naphthalene-based bioactive molecules and natural products.  相似文献

New types of C2-symmetric chiral macrodiolides are readily obtained via chiral N,N′-dioxide-scandium(iii) complex-promoted asymmetric tandem Friedel–Crafts alkylation/intermolecular macrolactonization of ortho-quinone methides with C3-substituted indoles. This protocol provides an array of enantioenriched macrodiolides with 16, 18 or 20-membered rings in moderate to good yields with high diastereoselectivities and excellent enantioselectivities through adjusting the length of the tether at the C3 position of indoles. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the formation of macrocycles is more favorable than that of 9-membered-ring lactones in terms of kinetics and thermodynamics. The potential utility of these intriguing chiral macrodiolide molecules is demonstrated in the enantiomeric recognition of aminols and chemical recognition of metal ions.

A ruthenium-catalyzed ortho C–H arylation process is described using visible light. Using the readily available catalyst [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2, visible light irradiation was found to enable arylation of 2-aryl-pyridines at room temperature for a range of aryl bromides and iodides.

The Ni-catalyzed reaction of ortho-phenoxy-substituted aromatic amides with alkynes in the presence of LiOtBu as a base results in C–O/N–H annulation with the formation of 1(2H)-isoquinolinones. The use of a base is essential for the reaction to proceed. The reaction proceeds, even in the absence of a ligand, and under mild reaction conditions (40 °C). An electron-donating group on the aromatic ring facilitates the reaction. The reaction was also applicable to carbamate (C–O bond activation), methylthio (C–S bond activation), and cyano (C–CN bond activation) groups as leaving groups.

Aryl azoles are ubiquitous as bioactive compounds and their regioselective functionalization is of utmost synthetic importance. Here, we report the development of a toluene-soluble dialkylmagnesium base sBu2Mg. This new reagent allows mild and regioselective ortho-magnesiations of various N-arylated pyrazoles and 1,2,3-triazoles as well as arenes bearing oxazoline, phosphorodiamidate or amide directing groups. The resulting diarylmagnesium reagents were further functionalized either by Pd-catalyzed arylation or by trapping reactions with a broad range of electrophiles (aldehydes, ketones, allylic halides, acyl chlorides, Weinreb amides, aryl halides, hydroxylamine benzoates, terminal alkynes). Furthermore, several double ortho,ortho′-magnesiations were realized in the case of aryl oxazolines, N-aryl pyrazoles as well as 2-aryl-2H-1,2,3-triazoles by simply repeating the magnesiation/electrophile trapping sequence allowing the preparation of valuable 1,2,3-functionalized arenes.

A toluene solution of sBu2Mg allowed a regioselective ortho-magnesiation of aromatic and heterocyclic systems. A second ortho,ortho′-functionalization was achieved in the case of aryl oxazolines, N-aryl pyrazoles as well as N-aryl triazoles.  相似文献

We present herein an innovative host–guest method to achieve induced molecular chirality from an achiral stilbazolium dye (DSM). The host–guest system is exquisitely designed by encapsulating the dye molecule in the molecule-sized chiral channel of homochiral lanthanide metal–organic frameworks (P-(+)/M-(−)-TbBTC), in which the P- or M-configuration of the dye is unidirectionally generated via a spatial confinement effect of the MOF and solidified by the dangling water molecules in the channel. Induced chirality of DSM is characterized by solid-state circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) and micro-area polarized emission of DSM@TbTBC, both excited with 514 nm light. A luminescence dissymmetry factor of 10−3 is obtained and the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of the encapsulated DSM in DSM@TbTBC is ∼10%, which is close to the PLQY value of DSM in dilute dichloromethane. Color-tuning from green to red is achieved, owing to efficient energy transfer (up to 56%) from Ln3+ to the dye. Therefore, this study for the first time exhibits an elegant host–guest system that shows induced strong CPL emission and enables efficient energy transfer from the host chiral Ln-MOF to the achiral guest DSM with the emission color tuned from green to red.

Tris–chelate metal complexes of unsymmetrical bidentate ligands can form two geometric stereoisomers, facial (fac) and meridional (mer) isomers. Due to the small difference in their properties, the highly-selective synthesis of one of the isomers is challenging. We now designed a series of tripodal ligands with a tris(3-(2-(methyleneoxy)ethoxy)phenyl)methane pivot. Surprisingly, the ratio of the fac/mer isomers of the triply helical FeII complexes significantly changed depending on the solvents. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of fac/mer isomerism of a labile tris(2,2′-bipyridine) FeII complex governed by the solvent. Furthermore, well-defined self-assemblies were quantitatively produced by imine bond formation with a suitable diamine. The supramolecular assemblies contained only the fac isomer even though a mixture of the two isomers existed in solution before the condensation reaction. Namely, the self-assembly formation effectively adjusted the geometries of the building unit that results in the suitable supramolecular structure.

The novel tripodal complexes isomerize in response to environmental change, and well-defined self-assemblies were quantitatively produced by imine bond formation.  相似文献

A catalytic asymmetric conjugate addition/Schmidt-type rearrangement of vinyl azides and (E)-alkenyloxindoles was realized. It afforded a variety of optically active 3,2′-pyrrolinyl spirooxindoles with high yields (up to 98%), and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee, >19 : 1 dr), even at the gram-scale in the presence of a chiral N,N′-dioxide–nickel(ii) complex. In addition, a possible catalytic cycle and transition state model were proposed to rationalize the stereoselectivity.

A catalytic enantioselective approach to the Myrioneuron alkaloids (−)-myrifabral A and (−)-myrifabral B is described. The synthesis was enabled by a palladium-catalyzed enantioselective allylic alkylation, that generates the C(10) all-carbon quaternary center. A key N-acyl iminium ion cyclization forged the cyclohexane fused tricyclic core, while vinyl boronate cross metathesis and oxidation afforded the lactol ring of (−)-myrifabral A. Adaptation of previously reported conditions allowed for the conversion of (−)-myrifabral A to (−)-myrifabral B.

Hybrids consisting of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) with a dumbbell topology and C2 symmetry were designed and synthesized. They self-assemble into 5 nm ordered structures. In particular, the increased steric effect with increasing POSS units stabilizes a square columnar phase (Colsqu) which is important in nanotemplating. These hybrids containing discotic liquid crystal HBC and POSS units have an excellent etching contrast and present an approach to obtain 5 nm nanopatterns.  相似文献

Introduction of atropisomeric axes into a bent bispyridine ligand leads to the quantitative formation of a complex mixture of atropisomeric M2L4 cages upon treatment with metal ions. Whereas the isomer ratio of the obtained cage mixture, consisting of up to 42 isomers, is insensitive to temperature and solvent, the quantitative convergence from the mixture to a single isomer is accomplished upon encapsulation of a large spherical guest, namely fullerene C60. The observed isomerization with other guests depends largely on their size and shape (e.g., <10 and 82% convergence with planar triphenylene and bowl-shaped corannulene guests, respectively). Besides the unusual guest-induced convergence, the present cage mixture displays the strongest guest emission (ΦF = 68%) among previously reported MnLm cages and capsules, upon encapsulation of a BODIPY dye in water.

A complex mixture of atropisomeric M2L4 cages is shown to undergo perfect convergence to a single isomer upon encapsulation of spherical C60 in water. Moreover, the cage mixture displays very strong guest emission upon encapsulation of a BODIPY dye.  相似文献

Transition-metal-catalyzed cross-electrophile C(sp2)–(sp3) coupling and C–H alkylation reactions represent two efficient methods for the incorporation of an alkyl group into aromatic rings. Herein, we report a Pd-catalyzed cascade cross-electrophile coupling and C–H alkylation reaction of 2-iodo-alkoxylarenes with alkyl chlorides. Methoxy and benzyloxy groups, which are ubiquitous functional groups and common protecting groups, were utilized as crucial mediators via primary or secondary C(sp3)–H activation. The reaction provides an innovative and convenient access for the synthesis of alkylated phenol derivatives, which are widely found in bioactive compounds and organic functional materials.

The bottom-up synthesis of 3D tetrakis(hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronenyl)methane, “tetrahedraphene”, is reported. This molecular nanographene constituted by four hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) units attached to a central sp3 carbon atom, shows a highly symmetric arrangement of the HBC units disposed in the apex of a tetrahedron. The X-ray crystal structure reveals a tetrahedral symmetry of the molecule and the packing in the crystal is achieved mostly by CH⋅⋅⋅π interactions since the interstitial solvent molecules prevent the π⋅⋅⋅π interactions. In solution, tetrahedraphene shows the same electrochemical and photophysical properties as the hexa-tBu-substituted HBC (tBu-HBC) molecule. However, upon water addition, it undergoes a fluorescence change in solution and in the precipitated solid, showing an aggregation induced emission (AIE) process, probably derived from the restriction in the rotation and/or vibration of the HBCs. Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory (TDDFT) calculations reveal that upon aggregation, the high energy region of the emission band decreases in intensity, whereas the intensity of the red edge emission signal increases and presents a smoother decay, compared to the non-aggregated molecule. All in all, the excellent correlation between our simulations and the experimental findings allows explaining the colour change observed in the different solutions upon increasing the water fraction.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks are promising materials for applications such as gas capture, separation, and storage, due to their ability to selectively adsorb small molecules. The metal–organic framework CuI-MFU-4l, which contains coordinatively unsaturated copper(i) centers, can engage in backbonding interactions with various small molecule guests, motivating the design of frameworks that engage in backbonding and other electronic interactions for highly efficient and selective adsorption. Here, we examine several gases expected to bind to the open copper(i) sites in CuI-MFU-4l via different electronic interactions, including σ-donation, π-backbonding, and formal electron transfer. We show that in situ Cu L-edge near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy can elucidate π-backbonding by directly probing excitations to unoccupied backbonding orbitals with Cu d-character, even for gases that participate in other dominant interactions, such as ligand-to-metal σ-donation. First-principles calculations based on density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory additionally reveal the backbonding molecular orbitals associated with these spectroscopic transitions. The energies of the transitions correlate with the energy levels of the isolated small molecule adsorbates, and the transition intensities are proportional to the binding energies of the guest molecules within CuI-MFU-4l. By elucidating the molecular and electronic structure origins of backbonding interactions between electron rich metal centers in metal–organic frameworks and small molecule guests, it is possible to develop guidelines for further molecular-level design of solid-state adsorbents for energy-efficient separations of relevance to industry.

Stilbene derivatives have long been known to undergo “acid-catalyzed” ZE isomerization, where a strong mineral acid at high concentration is practically necessary. Such severe reaction conditions often cause undesired by-reactions and limit their potential application. Herein, we present a trace mild acid-catalyzed ZE isomerization found with stilbene derivatives fused with a norbornene moiety. By-reactions, such as the migration of the C Created by potrace 1.16, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2019 C double bond and electrophilic addition reactions, were completely inhibited because of the ring strain caused by the fused norbornene component. Direct photolysis of the E isomers at selected wavelengths led to the EZ photoisomerization of these stilbene derivatives and thus constituted a unique class of molecular switches orthogonally controllable by light and acid. The catalytic amount of acid could be readily removed, and the ZE isomerization could be controlled by turning on/off the irradiation of a photoacid, which allowed repeated isomerization in a non-invasive manner. Moreover, the Z isomer produced by photoisomerization could spontaneously self-recover to the E isomer in the presence of a catalytic amount of acid. The kinetics of ZE isomerization were adjustable by manipulating catalytic factors and, therefore, unprecedented molecular photoswitches with adjustable self-recovery were realized.

Quantitative ZE isomerization was catalyzed by trace mild acids to offer molecular switches orthogonally controllable by acid and light.  相似文献

A highly modular radical cascade strategy based upon radical cyclisation/allylic substitution sequence between alkyl/aryl bromides, 1,3-dienes and nucleophiles ranging from sulfinates to amines, phenols and 1,3-dicarbonyls is described (>80 examples). Palladium phosphine complexes – which merge properties of photo- and cross coupling-catalysts – allow to forge three bonds with complete 1,4-selectivity and stereocontrol, delivering highly value added carbocyclic and heterocyclic motifs that can feature – inter alia – vicinal quaternary centers, free protic groups, gem-difluoro motifs and strained rings. Furthermore, a flow chemistry approach was for the first time applied in palladium–photocatalysed endeavors involving radicals.

Catalytic breakdown of polysaccharides can be achieved more efficiently by means of the enzymes lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs). However, the LPMO mechanism has remained controversial, preventing full exploitation of their potential. One of the controversies has centered around an active site tyrosine, present in most LPMO classes. Recent investigations have for the first time obtained direct (spectroscopic) evidence for the possibility of chemical modification of this tyrosine. However, the spectroscopic features obtained in the different investigations are remarkably different, with absorption maximum at 420 and 490 nm, respectively. In this paper we use density functional theory (DFT) in a QM/MM formulation to reconcile these (apparently) conflicting results. By modeling the spectroscopy as well as the underlying reaction mechanism we can show how formation of two isomers (both involving deprotonation of tyrosine) explains the difference in the observed spectroscopic features. Both isomers have a [TyrO–Cu–OH]+ moiety with the OH in either the cis- or trans-position to a deprotonated tyrosine. Although the cis-[TyrO–Cu–OH]+ moiety is well positioned for oxidation of the substrate, preliminary calculations with the substrate reveal that the reactivity is at best moderate, making a protective role of tyrosine more likely.

With QM/MM, we investigate the mechanism of tyrosine deprotonation in lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases. Our results support deprotonation and our calculated UV-vis spectra show that two isomers must be formed to match recent experiments.  相似文献
