The natural melanin is one kind of ubiquitous biological pigments, which is produced in melanosomes and widely distributed in living organisms. The synthetic melanin, often known as polydopamine(PDA), has similar chemical compositions and physical properties to natural melanin. In recent years, both natural melanin and PDA have aroused increased research interests in biomedical fields owing to their inherent biocompatibility, antioxidant activity, free-radical scavenging, metal ion chelation, strong near-infrared absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiency. Inspired by these fascinating properties, melanin and PDA have been widely used as building blocks for the construction of multifunctional nanoplatforms for various biomedical applications. This review focuses on the state-of-the-art progress in melanin/PDA-based nanomaterials, which covers from their preparation methods to biomedical applications including bioimaging, treatment, theranostics, antibacterial, UV/radiation protection, biosensor and tissue engineering. Moreover, the current trends and the future prospects of melanin/PDA-based nanomaterials are also discussed.  相似文献

In the rapidly expanding fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology, there is considerable interest in chiral nanomaterials, which are endowed with unusually strong circular dichroism. In this review, we summarize the principles of organization underlying chiral nanomaterials and generalize the recent advances in the main strategies used to fabricate these nanoparticles for bioscience applications. The creation of chirality from nanoscale building blocks has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically, and the tunability of chirality using external fields, such as light and magnetic fields, has allowed the optical activity of these materials to be controlled and their properties understood. Therefore, the specific recognition and potential applications of chiral materials in bioscience are discussed. The effects of the chirality of nanostructures on biological systems have been exploited to sense and cut molecules, for therapeutic applications, and so on. In the final part of this review, we examine the future perspectives for chiral nanomaterials in bioscience and the challenges posed by them.

Graphene (GR) and its derivatives are promising materials on the horizon of nanotechnology and material science and have attracted a tremendous amount of research interest in recent years. The unique atom‐thick 2D structure with sp2 hybridization and large specific surface area, high thermal conductivity, superior electron mobility, and chemical stability have made GR and its derivatives extremely attractive components for composite materials for solar energy conversion, energy storage, environmental purification, and biosensor applications. This review gives a brief introduction of GR's unique structure, band structure engineering, physical and chemical properties, and recent energy‐related progress of GR‐based materials in the fields of energy conversion (e.g., photocatalysis, photoelectrochemical water splitting, CO2 reduction, dye‐sensitized and organic solar cells, and photosensitizers in photovoltaic devices) and energy storage (batteries, fuel cells, and supercapacitors). The vast coverage of advancements in environmental applications of GR‐based materials for photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants, gas sensing, and removal of heavy‐metal ions is presented. Additionally, the use of graphene composites in the biosensing field is discussed. We conclude the review with remarks on the challenges, prospects, and further development of GR‐based materials in the exciting fields of energy, environment, and bioscience.  相似文献

Novel nanomaterials and advanced nanotechnology continuously push forward the rapid development of sustainable energy conversion and storage equipment. An emerging family of two-dimensional transition-metal carbides, nitrides and carbonitrides, also known as MXenes, have attracted increasing attention and in depth investigation. Benefitting from their unique intrinsic properties, MXenes have attracted significant attention and they have been considered as promising candidate materials for the development of environmentally friendly energy resources. A large number of studies show that MXenes have great potential in energy conversion and storage fields. Despite of their exceptional properties, MXenes also have some inherent characteristics, such as low capacities and unstable retention performances, which severely hinder their prospect applications in energy conversion and storage fields. In this Minireview, the latest progress on MXenes and their hybrid composites with small molecules, polymers, carbon or metal ions, and their applications in energy conversion and storage fields is highlighted, including their use in different types of batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen/oxygen evolution reactions, electromagnetic interference absorption/shielding and solar steam generation. In addition, the critical challenges and further development prospects of MXene-based materials are also introduced.  相似文献

Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are an emerging class of porous nanomaterials that have opened new research possibilities. The inherent characteristics of MOFs such as their large surface area, high porosity, tunable pore size, stability, facile synthetic strategies and catalytic nature have made them promising materials for enormous number of applications, including fuel storage, energy conversion, separation, and gas purification. Recently, their high potential as ideal platforms for biomolecule immobilization has been discovered. MOF-enzyme-based materials have attracted the attention of researchers from all fields with the expansion of MOFs development, paving way for the fabrication of bioelectrochemical devices with unique characteristics. MOFs-based bioelectrodes have steadily gained interest, wherein MOFs can be utilized for improved biomolecule immobilization, electrolyte membranes, fuel storage, biocatalysis and biosensing. Likewise, applications of MOFs in point-of-care diagnostics, including self-powered biosensors, are exponentially increasing. This paper reviews the current trends in the fabrication of MOFs-based bioelectrodes with emphasis on their applications in biosensors and biofuel cells.

Solar-to-fuel conversion through photocatalytic processes is regarded as promising technology with the potential to reduce reliance on dwindling reserves of fossil fuels and to support the sustainable development of our society. However, conventional semiconductor-based photocatalytic systems suffer from unsatisfactory reaction efficiencies due to limited light harvesting abilities. Recent pioneering work from several groups, including ours, has demonstrated that visible and infrared light can be utilized by plasmonic catalysts not only to induce local heating but also to generate energetic hot carriers for initiating surface catalytic reactions and/or modulating the reaction pathways, resulting in synergistically promoted solar-to-fuel conversion efficiencies. In this perspective, we focus primarily on plasmon-mediated catalysis for thermodynamically uphill reactions converting CO2 and/or H2O into value-added products. We first introduce two types of mechanism and their applications by which reactions on plasmonic nanostructures can be initiated: either by photo-induced hot carriers (plasmonic photocatalysis) or by light-excited phonons (photothermal catalysis). Then, we emphasize examples where the hot carriers and phonon modes act in concert to contribute to the reaction (plasmonic photothermal catalysis), with special attention given to the design concepts and reaction mechanisms of the catalysts. We discuss challenges and future opportunities relating to plasmonic photothermal processes, aiming to promote an understanding of underlying mechanisms and provide guidelines for the rational design and construction of plasmonic catalysts for highly efficient solar-to-fuel conversion.

Graphene or chemically modified graphene, because of its high specific surface area and abundant functional groups, provides an ideal template for the controllable growth of metal–organic framework (MOF) particles. The nanocomposite assembled from graphene and MOFs can effectively overcome the limitations of low stability and poor conductivity of MOFs, greatly widening their application in the field of electrochemistry. Furthermore, it can also be utilized as a versatile precursor due to the tunable structure and composition for various derivatives with sophisticated structures, showing their unique advantages and great potential in many applications, especially energy storage and conversion. Therefore, the related studies have been becoming a hot research topic and have achieved great progress. This review summarizes comprehensively the latest methods of synthesizing MOFs/graphene and their derivatives, and their application in energy storage and conversion with a detailed analysis of the structure–property relationship. Additionally, the current challenges and opportunities in this field will be discussed with an outlook also provided.

Although the selective synthesis of complicated supramolecular architectures has seen significant progress in recent years, the exploration of the properties of these complexes remains a fascinating challenge. Herein, a series of new supramolecular topologies, metalla[2]catenanes and Borromean ring assemblies, were constructed based on appropriate Cp*Rh building blocks and two rigid alkynyl pyridine ligands (L1, L2) via coordination-driven self-assembly. Interestingly, minor differences between the two rigid alkynyl pyridine ligands with/without organic substituents led to products with dramatically different topologies. Careful structural analysis showed that π–π stacking interactions play a crucial role in stabilizing these [2]catenanes and Borromean ring assemblies, while also promoting nonradiative transitions and triggering photothermal conversion in both the solution and the solid states. These results were showcased through comparative studies of the NIR photothermal conversion efficiencies of the Borromean ring assemblies, [2]catenanes and metallarectangles, which exhibited a wide range of photothermal conversion efficiencies (12.64–72.21%). The influence of the different Cp*Rh building blocks on the NIR photothermal conversion efficiencies of their assemblies was investigated. Good photothermal conversion properties of the assemblies were also found in the solid state. This study provides a new strategy to construct valuable half-sandwich-based NIR photothermal conversion materials while also providing promising candidates for the further development of materials science.

The selective synthesis of three kinds of supermolecular topologies, molecular Borromean ring, [2]catenane and metallarectangle based on two alkynyl ligands is presented. Remarkably, the NIR photothermal conversion efficiency was found to improve as the π–π stacking increases.  相似文献

Metal–incorporated composite carbon materials have engendered great progress in the fields of catalysis, energy storage and material science because of their size and chemical and physical properties. In this study, a modern technique was applied for the development of multi metal–carbon nanoreactors (MCNRs) from a pristine carbon cage (CC) using template method with nano silica ball (NSB), pyrolysis fuel oil (PFO) and metal nanocrystals such as gold, copper, nickel, potassium and manganese. The newly prepared Au, Cu, Ni, K and Mn deposited carbon nanoreactors were fully characterized by various analytical techniques. Due to their easy fabrication protocols and broad potential applications, the MCNRs were used successfully for the chemisorptions of hydrogen and ethylene gases alongside the solvent–free heterogeneous catalytic oxidation of a secondary alcohol. The MCNRs have exhibited dynamic adsorption performance and excellent catalytic activity.  相似文献

The liquid leakage and weak solar absorption capacity of organic phase change materials (PCMs) seriously hinder the efficient utilization of solar energy and thermal energy storage. To address these issues, we prepared nanoporous metal organic framework (Ni-MOF) for the vacuum infiltration of paraffin wax (PW), followed by the coating of solar-absorbing functional polydopamine (PDA) on the surface of PW@MOF for photothermal conversion and storage. As an efficient photon harvester, PDA coating endows PW@MOF/PDA composite PCMs with excellent photothermal conversion and storage properties due to the robust broadband solar absorption capability in the UV–vis region. Resultantly, our prepared PW@MOF/PDA composite PCMs exhibit a high photothermal conversion and storage efficiency of 91.2%, while that of PW@MOF composite PCMs is only zero. In addition, PW@MOF/PDA composite PCMs also exhibit excellent thermal stability, shape stability, energy storage stability, and photothermal conversion stability. More importantly, this coating strategy is universal by integrating different MOFs and solar absorbers, showing the potential to accelerate the major breakthroughs of high-efficiency MOF-based photothermal composite PCMs in solar energy utilization.  相似文献

Melanin-like nanomaterials have found application in a large variety of high economic and social impact fields as medicine, energy conversion and storage, photothermal catalysis and environmental remediation. These materials have been used mostly for their optical and electronic properties, but also for their high biocompatibility and simplicity and versatility of preparation. Beside this, their chemistry is complex and it yields structures with different molecular weight and composition ranging from oligomers, to polymers as well as nanoparticles (NP). The comprehension of the correlation of the different compositions and morphologies to the optical properties of melanin is still incomplete and challenging, even if it is fundamental also from a technological point of view. In this minireview we focus on scientific papers, mostly recent ones, that indeed examine the link between composition and structural feature and photophysical and photochemical properties proposing this approach as a general one for future research.  相似文献

Near-infrared (NIR)-emitting materials have been extensively studied due to their important applications in biosensing and bioimaging. Luminescent metal–organic frameworks (LMOFs) are a new class of highly emissive materials with strong potential for utilization in biomedical related fields because of their nearly unlimited structural and compositional tunability. However, very little work has been reported on organic linker-based NIR-MOFs and their emission properties. In the present work, a series of yttrium-tetracarboxylate-based LMOFs (HIAM-390X) are prepared via judicious linker design to achieve NIR emission with diverse structures. The introduction of an amino group not only offers the remarkable emission bathochromic shift from 521 nm, 665 nm to 689 nm for the resultant MOFs, but also influences the linker conformations, leading to the topology evolution from (4,12)-c ftw, (4,8)-c scu, which is rarely reported in rare earth element-based MOFs, to an unprecedented topology hlx for HIAM-3901 (without an amino group), HIAM-3905 (with one amino group) and HIAM-3906 (with two amino groups). Among these MOFs, HIAM-3907 shows an emission maximum at ∼790 nm, with the emission tail close to 1000 nm. The NIR emission may be attributed to the combination of the strongly electron-donating amino group and the strongly electron-withdrawing acceptor naphtho[2,3-c][1,2,5]selenadiazole. This work sheds light on the rational design of organic linker-based LMOFs with controlled structures and NIR emission, and inspires future interest in biosensing and bioimaging related applications of NIR-MOFs.

Introduction of amino groups into linkers will not only induce a significant emission red-shift to near-infrared, but also increase structural diversity of resultant LMOFs, leading to structural change from ftw, scu to an unprecedented topology hlx.  相似文献

Great attention is being increasingly paid to photothermal conversion in the near-infrared (NIR)-II window (1000–1350 nm), where deeper tissue penetration is favored. To date, only a limited number of organic photothermal polymers and relevant theory have been exploited to direct the molecular design of polymers with highly efficient photothermal conversion, specifically in the NIR-II window. This work proposes a fused backbone structure locked via an intramolecular hydrogen bonding interaction and double bond, which favors molecular planarity and rigidity in the ground state and molecular flexibility in the excited state. Following this proposal, a particular class of NIR-II photothermal polymers are prepared. Their remarkable photothermal conversion efficiency is in good agreement with our strategy of coupling polymeric rigidity and flexibility, which accounts for the improved light absorption on going from the ground state to the excited state and nonradiative emission on going from the excited state to the ground state. It is envisioned that such a concept of coupling polymeric rigidity and flexibility will offer great inspiration for developing NIR-II photothermal polymers with the use of other chromophores.

Low bandgap and large deformation generally conflict each other. This work couples molecular rigidity and flexibility by intramolecular hydrogen bonds and double bonds to achieve NIR-II light absorption and reinforced internal conversion at the same time.  相似文献

Heterometallic nanomaterials (HMNMs) display superior physicochemical properties and stability to monometallic counterparts, accompanied by wider applications in the fields of catalysis, sensing, imaging, and therapy due to synergistic effects between multi-metals in HMNMs. So far, most reviews have mainly concentrated on introduction of their preparation approaches, morphology control and applications in catalysis, assay of heavy metal ions, and antimicrobial activity. Therefore, it is very important to summarize the latest investigations of activity modulation of HMNMs and their recent applications in sensing, imaging and therapy. Taking the above into consideration, we briefly underline appealing chemical/physical properties of HMNMs chiefly tailored through the sizes, shapes, compositions, structures and surface modification. Then, we particularly emphasize their widespread applications in sensing of targets (e.g. metal ions, small molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, and cancer cells), imaging (frequently involving photoluminescence, fluorescence, Raman, electrochemiluminescence, magnetic resonance, X-ray computed tomography, photoacoustic imaging, etc.), and therapy (e.g. radiotherapy, chemotherapy, photothermal therapy, photodynamic therapy, and chemodynamic therapy). Finally, we present an outlook on their forthcoming directions. This timely review would be of great significance for attracting researchers from different disciplines in developing novel HMNMs.

Two‐dimensional (2D) nanomaterials are one of the most promising types of candidates for energy‐storage applications due to confined thicknesses and high surface areas, which would play an essential role in enhanced reaction kinetics. Herein, a universal process that can be extended for scale up is developed to synthesise ultrathin cobalt‐/nickel‐based hydroxides and oxides. The sodium and lithium storage capabilities of Co3O4 nanosheets are evaluated in detail. For sodium storage, the Co3O4 nanosheets exhibit excellent rate capability (e.g., 179 mA h g?1 at 7.0 A g?1 and 150 mA h g?1 at 10.0 A g?1) and promising cycling performance (404 mA h g?1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 A g?1). Meanwhile, very impressive lithium storage performance is also achieved, which is maintained at 1029 mA h g?1 after 100 cycles at 0.2 A g?1. NiO and NiCo2O4 nanosheets are also successfully prepared through the same synthetic approach, and both deliver very encouraging lithium storage performances. In addition to rechargeable batteries, 2D cobalt‐/nickel‐based hydroxides and oxides are also anticipated to have great potential applications in supercapacitors, electrocatalysis and other energy‐storage‐/‐conversion‐related fields.  相似文献
