A new mechanism of a “Coulomb explosion,” where ions are accelerated by the electric field separating charges at the magnetic Debye radius r BB/4πen e, is proposed on the basis of a nonquasineutral model of electronic vortices in a magnetic field. It is shown by means of numerical calculations that in the process of acceleration of the ions a collisionless shock wave, whose front has an effective width of the order of δ∼r B, determined by the breakdown of quasineutrality, is formed in a time of the order of ω pi −1 , where ωpi is the ion plasma frequency. The origin of such explosive dynamics is the formation of “holes” in the electron density at characteristic times of the order of ω pe −1pe is the electronic plasma frequency) as a result of the generation of electronic vorticity by the Weibel instability of an electromagnetic wave. Calculations for a laser pulse with intensity J∼6×1018 W/cm2 show that the ions expand in the radial direction with velocities up to 3.5×108 cm/s. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. The role of low density upflowing field-aligned electron beams (FEBs) on the growth rate of the electron cyclotron waves at the frequencies ω r < Ωe, propagating downward in the direction of the Earth’s magnetic field, has been analysed in the auroral region at ω ee < 1 where ω e is the plasma frequency and Ωe is the gyrofrequency. The FEBs with low to high energy (E b) but with low temperature (T ‖b) have no effect on these waves. The FEBs with E b < 1 keV and T ‖b (> 1.5 keV) have been found to have significant effect on the growth rate. Analysis has revealed that it is mainly the T ‖b which inhibits the growth rate (magnitude) and the range of frequency (bandwidth) of the instability mainly in the higher frequency spectrum. The inhibition in the growth rate and bandwidth increases with increase in T ‖b. The FEBs with less E b (giving drift velocity) reduce growth rate more than the beams with larger E b. The inhibition of growth rate increases with the increase in the ratio ω ee indicating that the beams are more effective at higher altitudes.   相似文献

A new model of electronic vortices in plasma is studied. The model assumes that the profile of the Lagrangian invariant I, equal to the ratio I=Ω/n of the electronic vorticity to the electron density, is given. The proposed approach takes into account the magnetic Debye scale r B ≃B/4πen, which leads to breakdown of plasma quasineutrality. It is shown that the Abrikosov singular model cannot be used to describe electron vortices in plasmas because of the fundamental limitation on the electron vorticity on the axis of a vortex in a plasma. Analysis of the equations shows that in the model considered for the electronic vorticity, the total magnetic flux decreases when the size r 0 of the region in which I≠0 becomes less than cpepe is the electron plasma frequency). For ω pe r 0/c≪1, an electronic vortex is formed in which the magnetic flux decreases as r 0 2 and the inertial component predominates in the electronic vorticity. The structure arising as ω pe r 0/c⇒0 is a narrow “hole” in the electron density, which can be identified from the spectrum of electromagnetic waves in this region. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor. On the basis of numerical solution of the dispersion equation, we obtain the spectra of weakly damped high-frequency waves in a hot magnetized plasma for the case where the electron cyclotron frequency ωHe is below the plasma frequency ωpe. It is shown that the longitudinal wave propagating at an angle to the magnetic field evolves into the slow extraordinary wave for the refractive index n ≤ 1. For n ≫ 1, the longitudinal-wave frequency increases with the refractive index, and the wave evolves into the wave with anomalous dispersion if the angle θ between the wave vector and the magnetic field is close to 90°. The dispersion relation of electromagnetic waves in the presence of magnetic monopoles of electron mass in a uniform magnetic field is obtained. The waves of the frequencyω in the range ωϱii<ω e ϱa are analysed. It is shown that the monopole charges lead to observable effects. Finally, the results are applied to a typical pulsar.  相似文献

It has been shown earlier [3,6] that matter waves which are known to lie typically in the range of a few angstrom, can also manifest in the macrodomain with a wave length of a few centimeters, for electrons propagating along a magnetic field. This followed from the predictions of a probability amplitude theory by the author [1,2] in the classical macrodomain of the dynamics of charged particles in a magnetic field. It is shown in this paper that this case constitutes only a special case of a generic situation whereby composite systems such as atoms and molecules in their highly excited internal states, can exhibit matter wave manifestation in macro and mesodomains, in one-dimensional scattering. The wave length of these waves is determined, not by the mass of the particle as in the case of the de Broglie wave, but by the frequency ω, of the classical orbital motion of the internal state in the correspondence limit, and is given by a nonquantal expression, λ = 2πv/ω, v being the velocity of the particle. For the electrons in a magnetic field the frequency corresponds to the gyrofrequency, Ω and the nonquantal wave length is given by λ = 2πv || /Ω; v || being the velocity of electrons along the magnetic field. We consider the effect of Coulomb interactions on the average density of states (DOS) of disordered low-dimensional metals for temperatures T and frequencies ω smaller than the inverse elastic life-time 1/τ. Using the fact that long-range Coulomb interactions in two dimensions (2d) generate ln2-singularities in the DOS ν(ω) but only ln-singularities in the conductivity σ(ω), we can re-sum the most singular contributions to the average DOS via a simple gauge-transformation. If σ(ω) > 0, then a metallic Coulomb gapν(ω) ∝ |ω|/e 4 appears in the DOS at T = 0 for frequencies below a certain crossover frequency Ω 2 which depends on the value of the DC conductivity σ(0). Here, - e is the charge of the electron. Naively adopting the same procedure to calculate the DOS in quasi 1d metals, we find ν(ω) ∝ (|ω|/Ω 1)1/2exp(- Ω 1/|ω|) at T = 0, where Ω 1 is some interaction-dependent frequency scale. However, we argue that in quasi 1d the above gauge-transformation method is on less firm grounds than in 2d. We also discuss the behavior of the DOS at finite temperatures and give numerical results for the expected tunneling conductance that can be compared with experiments. It is shown in this paper that the damping decrements of electromagnetic waves with right circular polarization and the decrements of plasma oscillations near the cyclotron and hybrid frequencies in a strong magnetic field eBpe are proportional to the square of the cyclotron frequencies eB and iB. In a weak magnetic field eBpe the damping decrements of all modes are proportional to the square of the plasma oscillation frequencies pe, pi. The isoscalar-isovector (ρ-ω) interferences in the exclusive reactions π- pne + e - and π+ npe + e - near the ω threshold leads to a distinct difference of the dielectron invariant-mass distributions depending on beam energy. The strength of this effect is determined by the coupling of resonances to the nucleon vector-meson channels and other resonance properties. We present an analytic calculation of the conductivity of pure graphene as a function of frequency ω, wave-vector k, and temperature for the range where the energies related to all these parameters are small in comparison with the band parameter γ≃3 eV, but much larger than the collision rate τ-1. The simple asymptotic expressions are given in various limiting cases. For instance, the conductivity for kv0≪ T≪ω is equal to σ(ω,k)=e2/4ħ and independent of the band structure parameters γ and v0. Our results are also used to explain the known dependence of the graphite conductivity on temperature and pressure.  相似文献

The conditions for resonance and signal cutoff are determined from the dispersion relation for the complex refractive index for a plane electromagnetic wave propagating in a gas-discharge plasma when a magnetic field H = H0 + H1ejt is imposed on the plasma. The refractive index and absorption are calculated for circularly polarized waves as functions of the alternating magnetic field with p, b, andv as parameters. We report the first observation of “quasi-Planck” spectra of capillary turbulence on the surface of liquid hydrogen in the dissipation domain. Capillary waves have been driven by low-frequency random force. We have observed that the frequency spectrum of surface elevation changes its dependence from power-like 〈|ηω2|〉 ∼ ω−2,8 at middle-frequency domain to “quasi-Planck” distribution ∼e ω/ω d at higher frequencies. The frequency ω d is proportional to the boundary frequency between inertial interval and dissipation domain and it is scaled up with the increase of driving force.  相似文献

In the context of the problem of energy transport in solar flares, simplified analytical models have been developed that describe plasma heating in the solar atmosphere by heat fluxes from the super-hot (T e ≳ 108 K) reconnecting current layer. It is shown that the applicability conditions of common heat conduction produced by Coulomb collisions of electrons in plasma are not fulfilled in solar flares. The heat flux calculated using the classical Fourier’s law proves to be significantly higher than the real energy fluxes known from modern multi-wavelength observations of flares. The so called anomalous flux produced by interaction of free electrons with ion acoustic waves in a plasma is critically analyzed. The question of what the dominant mechanism of heat transfer in solar flares is requires additional consideration [1].  相似文献

An investigation is reported of stimulated two-photon emission by Bose-condensed excitons accompanied by a coherent two-exciton recombination, i.e., by simultaneous recombination of two excitons with opposite momenta leaving unchanged the occupation numbers of exciton states with momenta p≠0. Raman light scattering (RLS) accompanied by a similar two-exciton recombination (or production of two excitons) is also analyzed. The processes under consideration can occur only if a system contains Bose condensate, so their detection can be used as a new method to reveal Bose condensation of excitons. The recoil momentum, which corresponds to a change in the momentum of the electromagnetic field in the processes, is transferred to phonons or impurities. If the recoil momentum is transmitted to optical phonons with frequency ω 0 s , whose occupation numbers are negligible, and the incident light frequency satisfies ω<2Ω, where Ω_=Ω−ω 0 s is the difference frequency and Ω is the light frequency corresponding to the recombination of an exciton with zero momentum, stimulated two-photon emission and RLS with coherent two-exciton recombination give rise to a line at 2Ω_ −ω and an anti-Stokes component at ω+2Ω_, respectively. For ω2Ω_ the RLS spectrum contains Stokes and anti-Stokes components at frequencies ω±2Ω_, whereas stimulated two-photon emission is impossible. Formulas for the cross sections at finite temperatures are obtained for the processes under consideration. Our estimates indicate that a spectral line at 2Ω_−ω, corresponding to the stimulated two-photon emission accompanied by coherent optical phonon-assisted two-exciton recombination can be experimentally detected in Cu2O. The paper presents a study of the dependence of initiation and development of instability on the cyclotron frequency of electrons in a homogeneous plasma with cold ions and electrons forming two beams which move in the direction of, and opposite to, that of a constant magnetic field. It is demonstrated that for 2 2 , the instability can already arise at pe 2 ce 2 , and a brief comparison with the experimental results is carried out.The authors take this opportunity to thank Dr. M. We study the two-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii theory of a rotating Bose gas in a disc-shaped trap with Dirichlet boundary conditions, generalizing and extending previous results that were obtained under Neumann boundary conditions. The focus is on the energy asymptotics, vorticity and qualitative properties of the minimizers in the parameter range |log ε|≪Ωε −2|log ε|−1 where Ω is the rotational velocity and the coupling parameter is written as ε −2 with ε≪1. Three critical speeds can be identified. At \varOmega = \varOmegac1 ~ |loge|\varOmega=\varOmega_{\mathrm{c_{1}}}\sim |\log\varepsilon| vortices start to appear and for |loge| << \varOmega < \varOmegac2 ~ e-1|\log\varepsilon|\ll\varOmega< \varOmega_{\mathrm{c_{2}}}\sim \varepsilon^{-1} the vorticity is uniformly distributed over the disc. For \varOmega 3 \varOmega c2\varOmega\geq\varOmega _{\mathrm{c_{2}}} the centrifugal forces create a hole around the center with strongly depleted density. For Ωε −2|log ε|−1 vorticity is still uniformly distributed in an annulus containing the bulk of the density, but at \varOmega = \varOmegac3 ~ e-2|loge|-1\varOmega=\varOmega_{\mathrm {c_{3}}}\sim\varepsilon ^{-2}|\log\varepsilon |^{-1} there is a transition to a giant vortex state where the vorticity disappears from the bulk. The energy is then well approximated by a trial function that is an eigenfunction of angular momentum but one of our results is that the true minimizers break rotational symmetry in the whole parameter range, including the giant vortex phase.  相似文献

Experimental results concerning the interaction of a modulated electron beam with a magnetoactive plasma in the whistler frequency range are reported. It was shown experimentally that when a beam is injected into the plasma, waves can be generated by two possible mechanisms: Cherenkov emission of whistlers by the modulated beam, and transition radiation from the beam injection point. In the case of weak beam currents (N b/N 0)≪−4) the Cherenkov resonance radiation is more than an order of magnitude stronger than the transition radiation; the Cherenkov emission efficiency decreases at high beam currents. The transformation of the distribution function of the beam is investigated for the case of weak beam currents. It is shown that in the case of the Cherenkov interaction with whistlers the beam is retarded and the beam distribution function becomes wider and acquires a plateau region. Pis’ma Zh. éksp. Teor.
