An organophosphorus compound, 10-(2,5-dihydroxyl phenyl)-9, 10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DHPDOPO), was synthesized through the reaction of 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphnanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) and p-benzoquinone, and characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FTIR), and 1H-NMR and 31P-NMR spectroscopes. Consequently, the phosphorus-containing epoxy resins with phosphorus content of 1 and 2 wt.% were prepared via the reaction of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A with DHPDOPO and bisphenol-A, and confirmed with FTIR and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Phenolic melamine, novolak, and dicyanodiamide (DICY) were used as curing agents to prepare the thermosetted resins with the control and the phosphorus-containing epoxy resins. Thermal properties and thermal degradation behaviors of these the thermosetted resins were investigated by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Phenolic melamine-cured resins exhibited higher glass transition temperatures than the other cured resins due to the high rigidity of their molecular chain. TGA studies demonstrated that the decomposition temperatures of the novolak-cured resins were higher than those of the others. A synergistic effect from the combination of the phosphorus-containing epoxy resin and the nitrogen-containing curing agent can result in a great improvement of the flame retardance for their thermosetted resins.  相似文献

Hexakis(4-hydroxyphenoxy)-cyclotriphosphazene (PN-OH) was synthesized through nucleophilic substitution of the chloride atoms of hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene and reduction of the aldehyde groups, and its chemical structure was characterized by elemental analysis, 1H and 31P NMR, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. A new phosphazene-based epoxy resin (PN-EP) was successfully synthesized through the reaction between diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and PN-OH, and its chemical structure was confirmed by FTIR and gel permeation chromatography. Four PN-EP thermosets were obtained by curing with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), dicyandiamide (DICY), novolak and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The reactivity of PN-EP with the four curing agents presents an increase in the order of DDM, PMDA, novolak and DICY. An investigation on their thermal properties shows that the PN-EP thermosets achieve higher glass-transition and decomposition temperatures in comparison with the corresponding DGEBA ones while their char yields increase significantly. The PN-EP thermosets also exhibit excellent flame retardancy. The thermosets with novolak, DICY and PMDA achieve the LOI values above 30 and flammability rating of UL94 V-0, whereas the one with DDM reaches the V-1 rating. The nonflammable halogen-free epoxy resin synthesized in this study has potential applications in electric and electronic fields in consideration of the environment and human health.  相似文献

In order to give epoxy resin good flame retardance, a novel bio-based flame retardant based on 2-aminopyrimidine (referred to as VAD) was synthesized from renewable vanillin as one of the starting materials. Its structure was confirmed by NMR and mass spectra. The epoxy resins containing VAD were prepared by utilizing 4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) as a co-curing agent, and their flame-retardant, mechanical and thermal properties and corresponding mechanisms were studied. VAD accelerated the cross-linking reaction of DDM and E51 (diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A). 12.5 wt% VAD made the epoxy resin achieve UL-94 V-0 rating and its limited oxygen index (LOI) value increase from 22.4% to 32.3%. The cone calorimetric testing results revealed the decline in the values of total heat release (THR) and peak of heat release rate (pk-HRR) and the obvious enhancement of residue yield. A certain amount of VAD enhanced the flame inhibition, charring and barrier effects, resulting in good flame retardance of the epoxy resin. Furthermore, the tensile strength, flexural strength and flexural modulus of the epoxy resin with 12.5 wt% loading of VAD were 6.5%, 14.9%, 15.2% higher than those of EP, indicating the strengthening effect of VAD. This work guarantees VAD to be a promising flame retardant for enhancing the fire retardancy of epoxy resin without compromising its mechanical properties.  相似文献

A new phosphorus-containing oxirane bis-glycidyl phenylphosphate (BGPP), and a diamine, bis(4-aminophenyl)phenylphosphate (BAPP), were synthesized. Both of these two phosphorus-containing compounds lead to phosphate-containing epoxy resin via curing reaction. The kinetics of the curing reaction of BGPP with various curing agents, including BAPP, were studied. The introduction of electron-withdrawing group into the compounds increases the BGPP and decreases the BAPP reactivity in the curing reaction. The thermal and the weight loss behavior of the cured epoxy resins were studied by TGA. High char yields (32–52%) as well as high limiting oxygen index (LOI) values (34–49) of these phosphorylated resins were found, confirming the usefulness of these phosphorus-containing epoxy resins as flame retardants. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Epoxy resin (EP)/polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) hybrids were prepared based on octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OVPOSS) and phosphorus‐containing epoxy resin (PCEP). The PCEP was synthesized via the reaction between bisphenol A epoxy resin (DGEBA) and 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO). The structure and morphology of PCEP/OVPOSS hybrids were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the PCEP/OVPOSS hybrids possessed higher glass transition temperatures than that of PCEP. The thermal stability of the PCEP/OVPOSS hybrids was studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The TGA results illustrated the synergistic effect of phosphorus–silicon of flame retardancy: phosphorus promotes the char formation, and silicon protects the char from thermal degradation. The thermal degradation mechanism of the PCEP/OVPOSS hybrids was investigated by real time Fourier transform infrared spectra and pyrolysis/gas chromatogram/mass spectrometry (Py‐GC/MS) analysis. It was found that OVPOSS migrated to the surface of the matrix and then sublimed from the surface in nitrogen; whereas, the vinyl groups of OVPOSS were oxidated to form a radical trap which could react with pyrolysis radicals derived from PCEP to form the branched and crosslinked structure in air. The combustion behaviors of the hybrids were evaluated by micro combustion calorimetry. The addition of OVPOSS obviously decreased the value of peak heat release rate and total heat release of the hybrids. Moreover, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to explore the char residues of the PCEP and the hybrids. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The flame retardant effect of newly synthesized phosphorus-containing reactive amine, which can be used both as crosslinking agent in epoxy resins and as a flame retardant, was investigated. The effect of montmorillonite and sepiolite additives on the fire induced degradation was compared to pristine epoxy resin. The effect of combining the organophosphorous amine with clay minerals was also studied. It could be concluded that the synthesized phosphorus-containing amine, TEDAP can substitute the traditional epoxy resin curing agents providing additionally excellent flame retardancy: the epoxy resins flame retarded this way reach 960 °C GWFI value, 33 LOI value and V-0 UL-94 rating - compared to the 550 °C GWFI value, 21 LOI value and “no rate” UL-94 classification of the reference epoxy resin. The peak of heat release was reduced to 1/10 compared to non-flame retarded resin, furthermore a shift in time was observed, which increases the time to escape in case of fire. The flame retardant performance can be further improved by incorporating clay additives: the LOI and the HRR results showed that the optimum of flame retardant effect of clay additives is around 1 mass% filler level in AH-16-TEDAP system. Applying a complex method for mechanical and structural characterization of the intumescent char it was determined that the flame retarded system forms significantly more and stronger char of better uniformity with smaller average bubble size. Incorporation of clay additives (owing to their bubble nucleating activity) results in further decrease in average bubble diameter.  相似文献

The copolymerisation of benzoxazine of bisphenol A and diglycidyl ether of (2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)diphenyl phosphine oxide or diglycidyloxymethylphenylsilane has been studied. In all samples the molar ratio of the benzoxazine-epoxy system was varied to achieve different phosphorus or silicon contents. Their thermal, dynamic-mechanical and flame retardant properties were evaluated. The high limiting oxygen index values confirmed that the phosphorus-containing benzoxazine-epoxy resins are effective flame retardants, but no efficiency of silicon on flame retardation was observed.  相似文献

In this work, a novel multifunctional organic‐inorganic hybrid flame agent (AM‐MEL) was prepared from magnesium hydroxide nanosheets decorated by nitrilotrimethylene triphosphonic acid and melamine. Then, an intrinsic flame‐retardant epoxy resin (EP) was prepared by covalently incorporating AM‐MEL nanoparticles. Meanwhile, ammonium polyphosphate (APP) was added into EP to form an intumescent flame retardant system with AM‐MEL. The chemical structure of AM‐MEL was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. With the incorporation of 5 wt% AM‐MEL and 15 wt% APP, EP/AM‐MEL/APP could reach a limiting oxygen index value of 32.0% and achieve UL‐94 V‐0 rating, along with 88.0%, 70.0%, 81.5%, and 87.3% decrease in the peak heat release rate, total heat release, total smoke production, and the peak CO production rate, respectively, with respect to that of pure EP. The mechanisms of its flame retardant and smoke suppression were investigated.  相似文献

A novel epoxy system was developed through the in situ curing of bisphenol A type epoxy and 4,4′‐diaminodiphenylmethane with the sol–gel reaction of a phosphorus‐containing trimethoxysilane (DOPO–GPTMS), which was prepared from the reaction of 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) with 3‐glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS). The preparation of DOPO–GPTMS was confirmed with Fourier transform infrared, 1H and 31P NMR, and elemental analysis. The resulting organic–inorganic hybrid epoxy resins exhibited a high glass‐transition temperature (167 °C), good thermal stability over 320 °C, and a high limited oxygen index of 28.5. The synergism of phosphorus and silicon on flame retardance was observed. Moreover, the kinetics of the thermal oxidative degradation of the hybrid epoxy resins were studied. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 41: 2354–2367, 2003  相似文献

Intumescent flame retardant (IFR) has received the considerable attention ascribed to the inherent advantages including non‐halogen, low toxicity, low smoke release and environmentally friendly. In this work, a novel charring agent poly (piperazine phenylaminophosphamide) named as PPTA was successfully synthesized and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Then, a series of flame‐retardant EP samples were prepared by blending with ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and PPTA. Combustion tests include oxygen Index (LOI), vertical Burning Test (UL‐94) and cone calorimeter testing, these test results showed that PPTA greatly enhances the flame retardancy of EP/APP. According to detailed results, EP containing 10 wt% APP had a LOI value of 30.2%,but had no enhancement on UL‐94 rating. However, after both 7.5 wt% APP and 2.5 wt% PPTA were added, EP‐7 passed UL‐94 V‐0 rating with a LOI value of 33.0%. Moreover, the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and peak of smoke product rate (PSPR) of EP‐7 were greatly decreased. Meanwhile, the flame‐retardant mechanism of EP‐7 was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis/infrared spectrometry (TG‐IR) and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The corresponding results presented PPTA significantly increased the density of char layer, resulting in the good flame retardancy.  相似文献

Hexaglycidyl cyclotriphosphazene (HGCP) was synthesized, and characterized by FTIR, 31P, 1H, and 13C-NMR. This compound was used as a reactive flame retardant to blend with commercial epoxy resin DGEBA (Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A). Its effect on the DGEBA decomposition pathways was characterized by studying both gas and solid phases produced during thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The gases evolved during TGA in air were studied by means of thermogravimetry coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG–FTIR), while the solid residues were analysed by FTIR and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that HGCP presents a good dispersion in DGEBA, and the blend thermoset with 4,4′-methylene-dianiline (MDA) curing agent leads to a significant improvement of the thermal stability at elevated temperature with higher char yields compared with pure DGEBA thermoset with the same curing agent. Improvement has also been observed in the fire behaviour of blend sample.  相似文献

Phosphorus- and silicon-containing epoxy resins were prepared from (2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)diphenyl phosphine oxide (Gly-HPO), diglycidyloxy methylphenyl silane (DGMPS) and 1,4-bis(glycidyloxydimethyl silyl)-benzene (BGDMSB) as epoxy monomers and diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM), bis(3-aminophenyl)methyl phosphine oxide (BAMPO) and bis(4-aminophenoxy)dimethyl silane (APDS) as curing agents. Epoxy resins with different phosphorus and silicon content were obtained. Their thermal, dynamic mechanical and flame retardant properties were evaluated. The high LOI values confirmed that epoxy resins containing hetero-atoms are effective flame retardants, but a synergistic efficiency of phosphorus and silicon on flame retardation was not observed.  相似文献

A reactive phosphorus-containing compound, bis-phenoxy (3-hydroxy) phenyl phosphine oxide (BPHPPO) was first successfully synthesized to produce the phosphorus-containing flame retardant epoxy resin (BPHPPO-EP). The chemical structures were characterized from FTIR, MS, NMR spectra and elemental analyses. Thermal degradation behaviors and flame retardant properties of the cured epoxy resins were investigated from the thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the limiting oxygen index (LOI) test using 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) as curing agent. The high char yields and the high limiting oxygen index values were found to certify the great flame retardancy of this phosphorus-containing epoxy resin.  相似文献

An investigation was carried out of correlations between dielectric, vibrational spectroscopic, and rheological properties during cure of a thermoset formulation composed of trifunctional epoxy resin and tetrafunctional amine. Experimental techniques utilized include impedance spectroscopy, near-infrared spectroscopy, steady shear, and dynamic mechanical measurements. Reaction kinetics obtained from dielectric and spectroscopic results were in excellent agreement. Gelation and vitrification times determined by dielectric and rheological measurements were also found to agree very well, despite the empirical nature of such correlations. A characteristic pattern in plots of imaginary impedance as a function of reaction time was reported for the first time in the open literature, and it was suggested that it could be used to identify gelation and vitrification during the network formation. A realization of the full potential of dielectric impedance spectroscopy in monitoring the progress of chemophysical changes in reactive polymers, however, hinges upon a development of fundamental scientific correlations between dielectric and chemorheological phenomena during cure.  相似文献

A phosphorus-nitrogen reactive flame retardant curing agent poly-(isophorondiamine spirocyclic pentaerythritol bisphosphonate) (PIPSPB) was synthesized. The chemical structure of the obtained compound was identified by FTIR, 1HNMR, and mass spectroscopies. Different proportions of DDS and PIPSPB were compounded as the curing agents to prepare a series of flame retardant epoxy resins with different phosphorus contents. The curing behavior of E-44/PIPSPB?+?DDS system was studied by DSC. A series of tests were conducted to characterize E-44/PIPSPB?+?DDS thermosetting system’s performance. The result demonstrates that the residual carbon content of EP/PIPSPB?+?DDS system is obviously higher than that of EP/DDS system after 500?°C with the increase of phosphorus content in the system, and the heat release rate of the system during combustion is significantly reduced. The generated phosphorus-containing carbon layer is obviously foamed, which shows that the flame retardancy of the system is the result of the combined action of condensed phase and gas phase. When the phosphorus content is 1.77wt%, EP-3 successfully passed UL94 V-0 flammability rating, the LOI value was as high as 29%, the impact strength and tensile strength of it were 6.08KJ/m2 and 49.10MPa respectively, the adhesive strength could reach 13.89?MPa, the system presents a good overall performance.  相似文献

Aluminum hypophosphite (AP) was used to prepare flame-retarded thermoplastic polyurethane (FR-TPU) composites, and their flame retardancy, thermal degradation and mechanical properties were investigated by limiting oxygen index (LOI), vertical burning test (UL-94), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), cone calorimeter (CC) test, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and tensile test. TPU containing 30 wt% of AP could reach a V-0 rating in the UL-94 test, and its LOI value was 30.2. TGA tests revealed that AP enhanced the formation of residual chars at high temperatures, and slightly affected the thermal stability of TPU at high temperatures. The combustion tests indicated that AP affected the burning behavior of TPU. The peak of heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR) and mass loss rate (MLR) greatly reduced due to the incorporation of AP. The tensile test results showed that both the tensile strength and the elongation at break slightly decreased with the addition of AP. The digital photos and SEM micrographs vitrified that AP facilitated the formation of more compact intumescent char layer. Based on these results mentioned above, the flame-retarding mechanism of AP was discussed. Both the self-charring during the decomposing process of AP and its facilitation to the charring of TPU led to the great improvement in the flame retardancy of TPU.  相似文献

A series of intumescent flame-retardant epoxy resins (IFR-EPs) were prepared only by adding a 5 wt% total loading of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and metal compounds. All the samples could achieve V-0 rating and did not generate dripping during UL-94 testing. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) values of the samples with 4.83 wt% APP and 0.17 wt% CoSA increase from 27.1 to 29.4, compared with epoxy resin containing 5 wt% APP. The samples also showed excellent water resistance of flame retardancy in 30 °C and 70 °C water for 168 h. The LOI results show that the composition of metal compounds (metal ions and ligands/anions) and the mass ratios of APP to metal compounds affect the flame retardancy of the samples. TG results indicate that the catalytic effect of CoSA on the decomposition of both APP and the epoxy resins containing APP is better than that of CuSAO. The fire behavior of epoxy resin and epoxy resins containing APP with/without CoSA were investigated by cone calorimeter. Cone calorimeter parameters of the samples such as HRR, THR, TSP and COP indicate that the addition of APP and CoSA improves the fire safety of epoxy resin significantly, and CoSA shows an obvious catalytic effect.  相似文献

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are emerging as a new and green high‐efficient flame retardant. But LDHs aggregate seriously because of their hydrophilicity, which affect deeply the mechanical and flame retardant properties of their composites. For the first time in this paper, microencapsulated LDHs (MCLDHs) with melamine‐formaldehyde (MF) resin were prepared by microencapsulation technology to enhance their compatibility and dispersion within epoxy resin (EP). The mechanical and flame retardant performances of EP/MCLDH composite were studied by comparing with EP/LDH composite. Results showed that the water contact angle of MCLDHs increased from 8.9° to 122.1°, which indicated good compatibility. The particle size of MCLDHs decreased sharply, and more than one‐third were up to submicron scale, which can be conducive to dispersion. Moreover, the tensile strength and elongation at break of EP/MCLDHs with different flame retardant contents were higher than those of EP/LDHs. And the addition of MCLDHs increased the glass transition temperature (Tg) of EP/MCLDHs, which meant a strong interfacial interaction. Besides, compared with EP/LDHs, the limiting oxygen index values of EP/MCLDHs were higher, and its peak of heat release rate and total heat release decreased by 16.3% and 5.5% respectively. EP/MCLDHs achieved from V‐1 to V‐0 rate with the increasing content of MCLDHs from 20% to 30%, while LDHs/EP never passed tests. In the process of heating, H2O, CO2, and NH3 released from MCLDHs formed gaseous phase, and the remaining dense char layers and oxides produced condensed phase, which played an important role in inhibiting combustion.  相似文献

Epoxy resins with different silicon contents were prepared from silicon-containing epoxides or silicon-containing prepolymers by curing with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane. The reactivity of the silicon-based compounds toward amine curing agents was higher than that of the conventional epoxy resins. The Tg of the resulting thermosets was moderate and decreased when the silicon content increased. The onset decomposition temperatures decreased and the char yields increased when the silicon content increased. Epoxy resins had a high LOI value, according to the efficiency of silicon in improving flame retardance.  相似文献
