Explicit optimality conditions for minimum-weight design of elastic sandwich beams with segmentwise constant structural stiffness, subject to displacement and mean-square stress constraints, are obtained. An iterative procedure that combines the use of the optimality conditions with finite-element analysis is proposed and is illustrated by numerical examples. These examples suggest that very few iterations are necessary to obtain a good approximation to the optimal design. It is shown that, for practical purposes, the optimization problem may be simplified by using the optimality conditions derived for statically determinate beams instead of those valid for statically indeterminate beams. This research was sponsored by the U.S. Army Research Office, Durham, North Carolina. In this paper, minimum-weight design of an elastic sandwich beam with a prescribed deflection constraint at a given point is investigated. The analysis is based on geometrical considerations using then-dimensional space of discretized specific bending stiffness. Since the present method of analysis is different from the method based on the calculus of variations, the conditions of piecewise continuity and differentiability on specific bending stiffness can be relaxed. Necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality are derived for both statically determinate and statically indeterminate beams. Beams subject to a single loading and beams subject to multiple loadings are analyzed. The degree to which the optimality condition renders the solution unique is discussed. To illustrate the method of solution, two examples are presented for minimum-weight designs under dual loading of a simply supported beam and a beam built in at both ends. The present analysis is also extended to the following problems: (a) optimal design of a beam built in at both ends with piecewise specific stiffness and a prescribed deflection constraint and (b) minimum-cost design of a sandwich beam with prescribed deflection constraints. The results presented in this paper were obtained in the course of research supported partly by the US Army Research Office, Durham, North Carolina, Research Grant No. DA-ARO-31-G1008, and partly by the Office of Naval Research, Contract No. N00014-67-A-0109-0003, Task No. NR 064-496. The authors wish to express their thanks to Professor H. Halkin for pointing out the applicability of optimal control theory to the present problem and to Professor W. We develop first order optimality conditions for constrained vector optimization. The partial orders for the objective and the constraints are induced by closed and convex cones with nonempty interior. After presenting some well known existence results for these problems, based on a scalarization approach, we establish necessity of the optimality conditions under a Slater-like constraint qualification, and then sufficiency for the K-convex case. We present two alternative sets of optimality conditions, with the same properties in connection with necessity and sufficiency, but which are different with respect to the dimension of the spaces to which the dual multipliers belong. We introduce a duality scheme, with a point-to-set dual objective, for which strong duality holds. Some examples and open problems for future research are also presented,  相似文献

The Kuhn-Tucker Sufficiency Theorem states that a feasible point that satisfies the Kuhn-Tucker conditions is a global minimizer for a convex programming problem for which a local minimizer is global. In this paper, we present new Kuhn-Tucker sufficiency conditions for possibly multi-extremal nonconvex mathematical programming problems which may have many local minimizers that are not global. We derive the sufficiency conditions by first constructing weighted sum of square underestimators of the objective function and then by characterizing the global optimality of the underestimators. As a consequence, we derive easily verifiable Kuhn-Tucker sufficient conditions for general quadratic programming problems with equality and inequality constraints. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the significance of our criteria for multi-extremal problems.  相似文献

Spanning tree problems defined in a preference-based environment are addressed. In this approach, optimality conditions for the minimum-weight spanning tree problem (MST) are generalized for use with other, more general preference orders. The main goal of this paper is to determine which properties of the preference relations are sufficient to assure that the set of ‘most-preferred’ trees is the set of spanning trees verifying the optimality conditions. Finally, algorithms for the construction of the set of spanning trees fulfilling the optimality conditions are designed, improving the methods in previous papers.  相似文献

The minimum-weight design of elastic rotating disks under various design criteria has been studied using ideas of dynamic programming and invariant imbedding. It is shown that the criterion of minimum potential energy furnishes a remarkably simple solution in terms of a linear partial differential equation subject to initial conditions. The treatment of more general design constraints leads to the development of a number of stable, two-sweep iterative procedures. A series of numerical examples incorporating various design constraints is presented to show the accuracy and feasibility of the method. The sensitivity of the radial stresses to small changes in the thickness of the disk is noticed. On the other hand, the high stability of the volume with respect to the design criteria is stressed. This work was partially supported by a University of California grant. This paper considers a class of optimal control problems that allows jumps in the state variable. We present the necessary optimality conditions of the Impulse Control Maximum Principle based on the current value formulation. By reviewing the existing impulse control models in the literature, we point out that meaningful problems do not satisfy the sufficiency conditions. In particular, such problems either have a concave cost function, contain a fixed cost, or have a control-state interaction, which have in common that they each violate the concavity hypotheses used in the sufficiency theorem. The implication is that the corresponding problem in principle has multiple solutions that satisfy the necessary optimality conditions. Moreover, we argue that problems with fixed cost do not satisfy the conditions under which the necessary optimality conditions can be applied. However, we design a transformation, which ensures that the application of the Impulse Control Maximum Principle still provides the optimal solution. Finally, we show for the first time that for some existing models in the literature no optimal solution exists.  相似文献

Necessary optimality conditions are derived in the form of a weak maximum principle for optimal control problems with mixed state-control equality and inequality constraints. In contrast to previous work these conditions hold when the Jacobian of the active constraints, with respect to the unconstrained control variable, has full rank. A feature of these conditions is that they are stated in terms of a joint Clarke subdifferential. Furthermore the use of the joint subdifferential gives sufficiency for nonsmooth, normal, linear convex problems. The main point of interest is not only the full rank condition assumption but also the nature of the analysis employed in this paper. A key element is the removal of the constraints and application of Ekeland's variational principle.  相似文献

In this paper, we first examine how global optimality of non-convex constrained optimization problems is related to Lagrange multiplier conditions. We then establish Lagrange multiplier conditions for global optimality of general quadratic minimization problems with quadratic constraints. We also obtain necessary global optimality conditions, which are different from the Lagrange multiplier conditions for special classes of quadratic optimization problems. These classes include weighted least squares with ellipsoidal constraints, and quadratic minimization with binary constraints. We discuss examples which demonstrate that our optimality conditions can effectively be used for identifying global minimizers of certain multi-extremal non-convex quadratic optimization problems. In this paper, we develop necessary conditions for global optimality that apply to non-linear programming problems with polynomial constraints which cover a broad range of optimization problems that arise in applications of continuous as well as discrete optimization. In particular, we show that our optimality conditions readily apply to problems where the objective function is the difference of polynomial and convex functions over polynomial constraints, and to classes of fractional programming problems. Our necessary conditions become also sufficient for global optimality for polynomial programming problems. Our approach makes use of polynomial over-estimators and, a polynomial version of a theorem of the alternative which is a variant of the Positivstellensatz in semi-algebraic geometry. We discuss numerical examples to illustrate the significance of our optimality conditions.  相似文献

A nonlinear program with inequality and equality constraints, generated by lipschitzian functions in a real Banach space is considered. The sufficiency of the Kuhn-Tucker optimality conditions at a point is established, using the function subdifferentials which generate the program. Also. in nonsmooth frame, Hanson's converse duality theorem from the convex programming is generalized  相似文献

The sufficient optimality conditions of Zeidan for optimal control problems (Refs. 1 and 2) are generalized such that they are applicable to problems with pure state-variable inequality constraints. We derive conditions which neither assume the concavity of the Hamiltonian nor the quasiconcavity of the constraints. Global as well as local optimality conditions are presented.  相似文献

In these comments on the excellent survey by Dinh and Jeyakumar, we briefly discuss some recently developed topics and results on applications of extended Farkas’ lemma(s) and related qualification conditions to problems of variational analysis and optimization, which are not fully reflected in the survey. They mainly concern: Lipschitzian stability of feasible solution maps for parameterized semi-infinite and infinite programs with linear and convex inequality constraints indexed by arbitrary sets; optimality conditions for nonsmooth problems involving such constraints; evaluating various subdifferentials of optimal value functions in DC and bilevel infinite programs with applications to Lipschitz continuity of value functions and optimality conditions; calculating and estimating normal cones to feasible solution sets for nonlinear smooth as well as nonsmooth semi-infinite, infinite, and conic programs with deriving necessary optimality conditions for them; calculating coderivatives of normal cone mappings for convex polyhedra in finite and infinite dimensions with applications to robust stability of parameterized variational inequalities. We also give some historical comments on the original Farkas’ papers.  相似文献

We investigate regularity conditions in optimal control problems with mixed constraints of a general geometric type, in which a closed non-convex constraint set appears. A closely related question to this issue concerns the derivation of necessary optimality conditions under some regularity conditions on the constraints. By imposing strong and weak regularity condition on the constraints, we provide necessary optimality conditions in the form of Pontryagin maximum principle for the control problem with mixed constraints. The optimality conditions obtained here turn out to be more general than earlier results even in the case when the constraint set is convex. The proofs of our main results are based on a series of technical lemmas which are gathered in the Appendix.  相似文献

A new class of optimization problems is discussed in which some constraints must hold in certain regions of the corresponding space rather than everywhere. In particular, the optimal design of topologies for mechanical structures can be reduced to problems of this kind. Problems in this class are difficult to analyze and solve numerically because their constraints are usually irregular. Some known first- and second-order necessary conditions for local optimality are refined for problems with vanishing constraints, and special Newton-type methods are developed for solving such problems.  相似文献

We establish new necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for global optimization problems. In particular, we establish tractable optimality conditions for the problems of minimizing a weakly convex or concave function subject to standard constraints, such as box constraints, binary constraints, and simplex constraints. We also derive some new necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for quadratic optimization. Our main theoretical tool for establishing these optimality conditions is abstract convexity.  相似文献

In this paper we study an optimal control problem with nonsmooth mixed state and control constraints. In most of the existing results, the necessary optimality condition for optimal control problems with mixed state and control constraints are derived under the Mangasarian-Fromovitz condition and under the assumption that the state and control constraint functions are smooth. In this paper we derive necessary optimality conditions for problems with nonsmooth mixed state and control constraints under constraint qualifications based on pseudo-Lipschitz continuity and calmness of certain set-valued maps. The necessary conditions are stratified, in the sense that they are asserted on precisely the domain upon which the hypotheses (and the optimality) are assumed to hold. Moreover necessary optimality conditions with an Euler inclusion taking an explicit multiplier form are derived for certain cases.  相似文献

This article is dedicated to the study of bilevel optimal control problems equipped with a fully convex lower level of special structure. In order to construct necessary optimality conditions, we consider a general bilevel programming problem in Banach spaces possessing operator constraints, which is a generalization of the original bilevel optimal control problem. We derive necessary optimality conditions for the latter problem using the lower level optimal value function, ideas from DC-programming and partial penalization. Afterwards, we apply our results to the original optimal control problem to obtain necessary optimality conditions of Pontryagin-type. Along the way, we derive a handy formula, which might be used to compute the subdifferential of the optimal value function which corresponds to the lower level parametric optimal control problem.  相似文献

Convexity plays a very important role in optimization for establishing optimality conditions. Different works have shown that the convexity property can be replaced by a weaker notion, the invexity. In particular, for problems with inequality-type constraints, Martin defined a weaker notion of invexity, the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker-invexity (hereafter KKT-invexity), that is both necessary and sufficient to obtain Karush-Kuhn-Tucker-type optimality conditions. It is well known that for this result to hold the problem has to verify a constraint qualification, i.e., it must be regular or non-degenerate. In non-regular problems, the classical optimality conditions are totally inapplicable. Meaningful results were obtained for problems with inequality-type constraints by Izmailov. They are based on the 2-regularity condition of the constraints at a feasible point. In this work, we generalize Martin's result to non-regular problems by defining an analogous concept, the 2-KKT-invexity, and using the characterization of the tangent cone in the 2-regular case and the necessary optimality condition given by Izmailov.  相似文献
