Reconstruction of vector fields and their singularities from ray transforms

In this paper, numerical methods for reconstruction of the singular support of a vector field from its known longitudinal and (or) transverse ray transforms are proposed. Apart from a modification for the Vainberg operator, we use integral operators of angular moments and back projections as well as differential operators of tensor analysis for solving the problem. Results of numerical simulation for reconstructing discontinuous vector fields and with discontinuities in the derivatives are presented. Visualization of their singular support is shown.     

A note on homomorphic images, subalgebras and various products

Let I, H, S, P, P_fin, P_f , P_u, P_s be the usual operators on classes of algebras of the same type (P, P_fin, P_f, P_u, P_s are respectively for direct, finite, filtered, ultra and subdirect products). The partially ordered monoid generated by the operators H, S, P with respect to composition of operators, I as an identity element, and natural ordering between operators is described by Pigozzi (Algebra Universalis 2 (1972), 346–353). The aim of this note is to describe the partially ordered monoids generated by H, S, P_u and by H, S, P_s and as well to summarize known results on the partially ordered monoids of operators generated by H, S and some of the above introduced products.Dedicated to the memory of Aleksandar PopoviReceived April 1, 2001; accepted in final form July 11, 2004.     

Constructing a binary tree from its traversals

This paper shows that a binary tree can be constructed from its preorder and inorder traversals in linear time and space.     

Wavelet transforms and edge detectors on digital images

The paper investigates the problem of locating edges on digital images. The process is completed through various mathematical transforms. The edges are found by implementing mathematical algorithms for convolutions that are adapted to locate the edges and highlights the technique on using wavelet transforms. We are especially addressing the problem of edge detection, because it has far reaching applications to all fields and especially within medicine. A patient can be diagnosed as having an aneurysm by studying an angiogram. An angiogram is the visual view of the blood vessels whereby the edges are highlighted through the implementation of edge detectors. This process can be completed through wavelet transforms and other convolution techniques.

Fourier transforms related to a root system of rank 1

We introduce an algebra consisting of difference-reflection operators and multiplication operators that can be considered as a q = 1 analogue of Sahi's double affine Hecke algebra related to the affine root system of type . We study eigenfunctions of a Dunkl-Cherednik-type operator in the algebra , and the corresponding Fourier transforms. These eigenfunctions are nonsymmetric versions of the Wilson polynomials and the Wilson functions.     

Nonabelian free subgroups in homomorphic images of valued quaternion division algebras

Given a quaternion division algebra a noncentral element is called pure if its square belongs to the center. A theorem of Rowen and Segev (2004) asserts that for any quaternion division algebra of positive characteristic and any pure element the quotient of by the normal subgroup generated by is abelian-by-nilpotent-by-abelian. In this note we construct a quaternion division algebra of characteristic zero containing a pure element such that contains a nonabelian free group. This demonstrates that the situation in characteristic zero is very different.
