In this paper, we sketch some recent developments in the theory of Lyapunov-type inequalities and present some new results relating to a quasilinear system, special cases of which contain some well-known differential equations such as half-linear and linear equations. This note introduces a new lower bound for the problem of scheduling on parallel identical machines to minimize total tardiness that is based on the concepts used in the two lower bounds developed by Shim and Kim [Shim, S.O., Kim, Y.D., 2007. Scheduling on parallel identical machines to minimize total tardiness. European Journal of Operational Research 177, 135–146]. The note shows that the new lower bound dominates the three lower bounds used in Shim and Kim’s branch-and-bound algorithm and can be used in place of these lower bounds to lower the enumeration required. 相似文献

The exact, explicit form of the transcendental solution of Chrystal’s equation, a first order nonlinear ordinary differential equation (ODE) of degree two, is derived in terms of the Lambert W-function. It is shown that this case of the general solution is dual-valued over a finite interval and that, for a special case of the coefficients, its zeros involve the Golden ratio. Additionally, a number of applications involving special cases of this ODE are noted and the main properties of the Lambert W-function are briefly reviewed. 相似文献

The kernel-solvability of perfect graphs was first proved by Boros and Gurvich, and later Aharoni and Holzman gave a shorter proof. Both proofs were based on Scarf’s Lemma. In this note we show that a very simple proof can be given using a polyhedral version of Sperner’s Lemma. In addition, we extend the Boros–Gurvich theorem to h-perfect graphs and to a more general setting. 相似文献

In this paper, we introduce a localized version of generalized normal maps as well as generalized natural mappings. By using these concepts, we study continuity properties of the solution map of parametric variational inequalities in reflexive Banach spaces. This localization permits us to deal with variational conditions posed on sets that may not be convex and to establish existence and continuity of solutions. We also establish homeomorhisms between the solution set of variational inequalities and the solution set of generalized normal maps. Using these homeomorphisms and the degree theory, we show that the solution map of parametric variational inequalities is lower semicontinuous.
