Summary For the examples shown in this study in all cases FD-MS allowed the determination of the molecular weight and the elemental composition. Some of the characteristic features of sulphonic acids and sulphonates in field desorption are described. The method is obviously very well suited for the analysis of non-volatile technical products (e.g. dyestuffs, detergents, drugs). Information about the molecular weight, the structure, organic and inorganic by-products and impurities is obtained and thus the applicability of FD-MS to the analysis of actual analytical problems is clearly demonstrated.

Zusammenfassung Für die untersuchten Verbindungen ergab FD-MS in allen Fällen das Molekulargewicht und die Bruttoformel. Einige der charakteristischen Merkmale von Sulfonsäuren und Sulfonaten bei der Felddesorption werden beschrieben. Die Methode ist für die Analyse nichtflüchtiger, technischer Produkte (z. B. Farbstoffe, Detergentien, Pharmazeutica) sehr gut geeignet. Sie liefert Informationen über das Molekulargewicht, die Struktur, organische und anorganische Nebenprodukte und Verunreinigungen.

Relationship between the chromatographic behaviour and the structural units of polyorthophosphates

Summary The molar responses and specific weight correction factors for 25 aliphatic sulphur compounds in the 10 g range were measured with a hydrogen flame-ionisation detector. No abnormal behaviour was found with sufficiently high ratio air/H₂. The molar response of the sulphides and disulphides is strictly proportional to the carbon number. For a certain organic residue the weight correction factor is proportional to the number of sulphur atoms (or the molecular weight). No destructive effects on the detector burner and no decrease of sensitivity were observed.

FID-Empfindlichkeitsfaktoren für aliphatische Schwefelverbindungen bei höheren Konzentrationen

Zusammenfassung Die molaren Empfindlichkeiten und stoffspezifischen Gewichtskorrekturfaktoren für 25 aliphatische Schwefelverbindungen im 10 g-Bereich wurden mit einem Wasserstoff-Flammionisationsdetektor gemesssen. Bei genügend hohem Strömungsverhältnis (Luft/Wasserstoff) wird kein ungewöhnliches Verhalten gefunden. Die molare Empfindlichkeit der Sulfide und Disulfide ist streng proportional der Kohlenstoffzahl. Für einen bestimmten organischen Rest ist der Gewichtskorrekturfaktor proportional der Zahl der S-Atome (oder dem Molgewicht). Destruktive Einflüsse auf den Brenner des Detektors und Abnahme der Empfindlichkeit wurden nicht beobachtet.

Summary The first complete mass spectra of unprotected dinucleotides e.g. TpT, GpU, ApC, and CpA are reported. In all cases these spectra make possible the determination of the molecular weight. In addition structural information about the building blocks of the dinucleotides can be obtained.

Determination of molecular weights and solubility parameters of high-polymers by gas chromatography

Summary A new method for the simultaneous determination of molecular weight and solubility parameter of high-polymer was proposed using the sample polymer as the solvent and a halogen as the solute in gas chromatography at two different temperatures. Molecular weights of Silicon Oil DC 550, 702, and 710, and of PEG 1500, 4000, and 6000 are 50000, 62300, and 89200, and 1500, 3100, and 6750, respectively. Solubility parameters of them are 8.1, 8.0, and 7.9, and 11.7, 11.6, and 11.6, respectively.

Gas-chromatographische Bestimmung von Molekulargewichten und Löslichkeitsparametern von Hochpolymeren

Zusammenfassung Bei der empfohlenen Methode wird eine gas-chromatographische Bestimmung bei zwei verschiedenen Temperaturen mit dem Polymeren als Lösungsmittel und einem Halogen als gelöster Substanz durchgeführt. Die Molekulargewichte von Silicon Oil DC 550, 702 und 710 sowie von PEG 1500, 4000 und 6000 wurden zu 50000, 62300, 89200, 1500, 3100 und 6750 gefunden; die entsprechenden Löslichkeitsparameter betragen 8,1, 8,0, 7,9, 11,7, 11,6 und 11,6.

Beitrag zur pr?parativen Fraktionierung von Block- und statistischen Copolymeren

Zusammenfassung Mit Hilfe der Gelpermeations-Chromatographie, der Makro--Backer-Williams-Kolonne und der Dreieckfällungsfraktionierungs-Methode nach Meyerhoff wurden Block- und statistische Styrol-Butadien-Copolymere präparativ vergleichend fraktioniert. Die so erhaltenen Fraktionen wurden teilweise durch Absolutmethoden charakterisiert. Die Molekulargewichtsbestimmung bzw. die Molekulargewichtsverteilung der aus den drei Methoden erhaltenen Fraktionen wurde mit Hilfe der GPC überprüft, und mit Hilfe eines Computerprogramms aus den GPC-Chromatogrammen berechnet. Es zeigte sich, daß die Polydispersität der Fraktionen im Bereich von 1,15 bis 1,80 variiert und die Fraktionierungsmethode spezifisch ist. Die erhaltenen Fraktionen waren in ihrer chemischen Zusammensetzung zufriedenstellend einheitlich.

Contribution to the preparative fractionation of block and statistical copolymers

Summary With the aid of gel permeation chromatography, the macro-Backar-Williams column and the triangle precipitation fractionation method according to Meyerhoff, block and statistical styrene-butadiene copolymers were separated into single fractions. The fractions thus obtained were partly characterized by absolute methods. The molecular weight determination or the molecular weight distribution of the fractions were calculated from the GPC chromatograms with the aid of computer programs. The polydispersity of the fractions varied in the region of 1.15 to 1.80, and was specific for the fractionation method. However, the fractions obtained were sufficiently uniform in relation to their chemical composition.
