Relatively extremal knots are the relative minima of the ropelength functional in the C1 topology. They are the relative maxima of the thickness (normal injectivity radius) functional on the set of curves of fixed length, and they include the ideal knots. We prove that a C1,1 relatively extremal knot in Rn either has constant maximal (generalized) curvature, or its thickness is equal to half of the double critical self distance. This local result also applies to the links. Our main approach is to show that the shortest curves with bounded curvature and C1 boundary conditions in Rn contain CLC (circle-line-circle) curves, if they do not have constant maximal curvature.  相似文献

Let GO(4) act isometrically on S3. In this article we calculate a lower bound for the diameter of the quotient spaces S3/G. We find it to be , which is exactly the value of the lower bound for diameters of the spherical space forms. In the process, we are also able to find a lower bound for diameters for the spherical Aleksandrov spaces, Sn/G, of cohomogeneities 1 and 2, as well as for cohomogeneity 3 (with some restrictions on the group type). This leads us to conjecture that the diameter of Sn/G is increasing as the cohomogeneity of the group G increases.  相似文献

The configuration space of the mechanism of a planar robot is studied. We consider a robot which has n arms such that each arm is of length 1+1 and has a rotational joint in the middle, and that the endpoint of the kth arm is fixed to . Generically, the configuration space is diffeomorphic to an orientable closed surface. Its genus is given by a topological way and a Morse theoretical way. The homeomorphism types of it when it is singular is also given.  相似文献

We construct a conformally invariant vector bundle connection such that its equation of parallel transport is a first order system that gives a prolongation of the conformal Killing equation on differential forms. Parallel sections of this connection are related bijectively to solutions of the conformal Killing equation. We construct other conformally invariant connections, also giving prolongations of the conformal Killing equation, that bijectively relate solutions of the conformal Killing equation on k-forms to a twisting of the conformal Killing equation on (k?)-forms for various integers ?. These tools are used to develop a helicity raising and lowering construction in the general setting and on conformally Einstein manifolds.  相似文献

We establish a boundary connected sum theorem for asymptotically hyperbolic Einstein metrics, and also show that if the two metrics have scalar positive conformal infinities, then the same is true for this boundary join. This construction is also extended to spaces with a finite number of interior conic singularities, and as a result we show that any 3-manifold which is a finite connected sum of quotients of S3 and S2×S1 bounds such a space (with conic singularities); putatively, any 3-manifold admitting a metric of positive scalar curvature is of this form.  相似文献

It is known that the linking form on the 2-cover of slice knots has a metabolizer. We show that several weaker conditions, or some other conditions related to sliceness, do not imply the existence of a metabolizer. We then show how the Rudolph-Bennequin inequality can be used indirectly to prove that some knots are not slice.  相似文献

Our main result offers a new (quite systematic) way of deriving bounds for the cup-length of Poincaré spaces over fields; we outline a general research program based on this result. For the oriented Grassmann manifolds, already a limited realization of the program leads, in many cases, to the exact values of the cup-length and to interesting information on the Lyusternik-Shnirel'man category.  相似文献

It is shown that the singular set for the Yang–Mills flow on unstable holomorphic vector bundles over compact Kähler manifolds is completely determined by the Harder–Narasimhan–Seshadri filtration of the initial holomorphic bundle. We assign a multiplicity to irreducible top dimensional components of the singular set of a holomorphic bundle with a filtration by saturated subsheaves. We derive a singular Bott–Chern formula relating the second Chern form of a smooth metric on the bundle to the Chern current of an admissible metric on the associated graded sheaf. This is used to show that the multiplicities of the top dimensional bubbling locus defined via the Yang–Mills density agree with the corresponding multiplicities for the Harder–Narasimhan–Seshadri filtration. The set theoretic equality of singular sets is a consequence.  相似文献

Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of solutions to discrete time-variant interpolation problems of Nevanlinna-Pick and Nudelman type. The proofs are based on a reduction scheme which allows one to treat these time-variant interpolation problems as classical interpolation problems for operator-valued functions with operator arguments. For any closed oriented surface Σg of genus g?3, we prove the existence of foliatedΣg-bundles over surfaces such that the signatures of the total spaces are non-zero. We can arrange that the total holonomy of the horizontal foliations preserve a prescribed symplectic form ω on the fiber. We relate the cohomology class represented by the transverse symplectic form to a crossed homomorphism which is an extension of the flux homomorphism from the identity component to the whole group of symplectomorphisms of Σg with respect to the symplectic form ω.  相似文献

Given a positive function F on Sn which satisfies a convexity condition, we define the rth anisotropic mean curvature function Mr for hypersurfaces in Rn+1 which is a generalization of the usual rth mean curvature function. Let be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with , for some r with 1?r?n−1, which is a critical point for a variational problem. We exhibit a set of edges (moves) and 2-cells (relations) making the complex of pant decompositions on a surface a simply connected complex. Our construction, unlike the previous ones, keeps the arguments concerning the structural transformations independent from those deriving from the action of the mapping class group. The moves and the relations turn out to be supported in subsurfaces with 3g−3+n=1,2 (where g is the genus and n is the number of boundary components), illustrating in this way the so-called Grothendieck principle.  相似文献
