Second harmonic generation was observed in ammonium tartrate single crystals by a phase matching technique at the fundamental wavelength 1.153 μm. The nonlinear coefficients were found to be comparable in magnitude to those of KDP. The optical transmission and the refractive indices were also measured.  相似文献

Second harmonic generation in ammonium malate has been investigated in a wavelength region between 492 nm (short wavelength limit of the harmonic beam at 246 nm) and 640 nm. Phase match angle, refractive indices and all coefficients of the nonlinear susceptibility tensor have been measured; several possibilities for phase matching are discussed.  相似文献

We have measured optical second harmonic intensity from arrays of Pt nanowires of 20 nm and 9 nm average widths, as a function of the incident and output light polarizations, the azimuthal angle, and the excitation photon energy. The nanowires were fabricated through shadow deposition on self-organized NaCl(1 1 0) faceted templates. The anisotropy of the SH intensity from the Pt nanowires was found to be stronger than that from the Au nanowires reported previously. The effective nonlinear susceptibility element , with the suffix 2 indicating the direction , was observed for Pt nanowires, although it was not observed for Au nanowires. This difference is suggested to be due to the weaker suppression of the incident fundamental fields by the depolarization field in the Pt nanowires and the larger anisotropy in the nonlinearity of Pt nanowires due to the thinner widths.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the optical second harmonic generation in nanocrystalline BaTiO3:Eu3+ revealed a strong hysteresis in the C4v-Oh ferroelectric phase transition region. The explanation of the effect by the ordering processes in the system of ferroelectric nanocrystals is confirmed by the experiments in an external electric field.  相似文献

We report the first observation of reflected optical second harmonic generation of light due to excitation of fundamental and harmonic surface plasmon modes at the interface between a metallic film and a piezoelectric crystal. Excitation of the fundamental surface plasmon mode produces a large enhancement of the piezoelectric generated reflected harmonic light whereas excitation of the nonlinear mode produces only a small minimum in the background surface generated harmonic light.  相似文献

The second harmonic generation (SHG) in the asymmetric double triangular quantum wells (DTQWs) is investigated theoretically. The dependence of the SHG coefficient on the right-well width of the DTQWs is studied, and the influence of the applied electric field on SHG coefficient is also taken into account. The analytical expression of the SHG coefficient is analyzed by using the compact density-matrix approach and the iterative method. Finally, the numerical calculations are presented for the typical GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs asymmetric DTQWs. The results show that the calculated SHG coefficient in this coupled system can reach the magnitude of 10−5 m/V, 1–2 orders of magnitude higher than that in step quantum well, and that in double square quantum wells. Moreover, the SHG coefficient is not a monotonic function of the right-well width, but has complex relationship with it. The calculated results also reveal that an applied electric field has a great influence on the SHG coefficient. Applying an appropriate electric field to a DTQW with a wider right well can induce a sharper peak of the SHG coefficient due to the double-resonant enhancement.  相似文献

Surface second harmonic (SH) signals generated at a polycrystalline silver surface are studied as the electrode undergoes electrochemical cycling in sulfate electrolytes of variable pH. The SH intensity profiles are correlated with the ionic adsorption and surface chemistry occurring at the electrode interface. The dramatic differences in the optical response of these solutions is attributed to the formation of silver oxides. Detection of monolayer coverages of adsorbed sulfate ions demonstrate the inherent sensitivity of this nonlinear optical technique. The effect on the SH efficiency of trace amounts of oxygen in the electrolyte is also discussed.  相似文献

A size effect has been revealed in the spectra of the second harmonic generated in a reflection from an amorphous silicon composite layer with inclusions of crystalline silicon (nanocrystallites) measured at room temperature: a decrease in the mean size of the nanocrystallites from 100 to 30 nm is accompanied by a shift of the spectral peak near 3.3 eV by 0.12 eV towards the short wavelengths and an increase in the peak width by a factor of 1.5. As a possible mechanism of this phenomenon, the effect of the structural defects on the parameters of the optical transitions in the nanocrystallites is discussed.  相似文献

It is shown how the theory of non-linear interaction between the modes of the open resonator, developed previously [1] and used to study resonant second harmonic generation [2], can be applied to second harmonic generation in the absence of a resonator. The conditions under which the second harmonic output, in the small conversion approximation, can be approximated by a Gaussian beam are derived.The optimum value of the focusing parameter I/z0 (hereI is the length of the crystal, andz 0 is one-half the confocal parameter of the fundamental beam) for the total output is shown to be 5.68 agreeing precisely with the value given by Boyd and Kleinman [3].  相似文献

Optical second harmonic generation at the photon energy of 2?ω = 2eV in the model centrosymmetric antiferromagnet NiO irradiated with picosecond terahertz pulses (0.4–2.5 THz) at room temperature is detected. The analysis of experimental results shows that induced optical second harmonic generation at the moment of the impact of a terahertz pulse arises through the electric dipole mechanism of the interaction of the electric field of a pump pulse with the electron subsystem of NiO. Temporal changes in optical second harmonic generation during 7 ps after the action of the pulse are also of an electric dipole origin and are determined by the effects of propagation of the terahertz pulse in a NiO platelet. Coherent oscillations of spins at the antiferromagnetic resonance frequency induced by the magnetic component of the terahertz pulse induce a relatively weak modulation of magnetic dipole optical second harmonic generation.  相似文献

We consider nonlinear optical processes in a cavity maintained far from thermal equilibrium by external pumping. In second harmonic generation we predict a hard mode instability at a critical pump strength indicating the existence of undamped spiking similar to that in strongly pumped lasers. In subharmonic generation above the soft mode transition noted by Graham we predict the appearance of sidebands in the subharmonic spectrum.  相似文献

This paper reports experimental and analytical results on optical second harmonic generation when a noncollinear arrangement is employed. The dependence of second harmonic power on crystal length, absorption, beam radius and the angle between the two fundamental waves is obtained. Double refraction of the crystal is taken into account, but the divergence and depletion of the fundamental waves are neglected. The results of the calculations are confirmed by experiments carried out with a KDP crystal in the near field of two intersecting TEM00 ruby laser beams.An extension of the theory to nonlinear interactions other than second harmonic generation - e.g. four-wave interaction - is possible.  相似文献

Efficient second harmonic generation at 0.532 μ has been achieved in a temperature tuned CDA crystal when a narrow beam divergence Nd:YAG laser was used. At a crystal temperature of 40.3°C, a peak second harmonic power of 7.5 MW was obtained with a peak power conversion efficiency of 33%. The temperature variation of the refractive indices in CDA has been determined to be d(ne2ω?n0ω)/dT = 7.2 × 10?5°C?1.  相似文献

 为了提高超短脉冲二倍频的转换效率和改善出射倍频光的脉冲形状,对超短脉冲倍频中三阶非线性效应的影响进行了理论分析和数值模拟,并采用初始相位失配的方法来补偿三阶非线性效应的影响。结果表明:用KDP晶体二倍频中心波长为800 nm的超短脉冲,当入射功率密度大于100 GW/cm2时,三阶非线性效应是倍频转换效率的主要影响因素。对脉宽为50 fs,入射功率密度为250 GW/cm2的超短脉冲在KDP晶体(2 mm)中的二次谐波变换,当初始相位失谐0.9 mrad时,转换效率提高了10%,同时由三阶非线性效应引起的强度调制得到明显抑制,出射基频光和倍频光的脉冲形状得到明显改善。  相似文献
