We show that rare-earth (RE-) doped glasses can have homogeneous linewidths as narrow as 287 kHz at (4)He temperatures. This is far narrower than others reported in glasses in the same temperature range and is suitable for precise spectral hole burning and spatial-spectral holographic applications. It is known that cw spectral hole burning linewidth measurements of RE ions in glasses are hindered by the presence of spectral diffusion but, even in glasses, application of a magnetic field can freeze out RE spin-spin interactions responsible for spectral diffusion and isolate the remaining contribution of two-level systems (TLSs). The Er(3+):2G2S glasses have unusually low TLS contributions, making it possible to study the real homogeneous linewidth using photon echo measurements. The contribution from TLSs is only 170 T(1.3) kHz when subjected to a field of 5 T.  相似文献

The chaotic transition is observed in a three-coupled phase-locked loop (PLL) system in both experiments and numerical simulations. In this system, three PLL oscillators are connected with the periodic boundary condition. Intermittency is found in partially synchronized phase, in which two of three oscillators synchronize with each other and form a pair, and the chaotic transition occurs due to the recombination of synchronized pairs so that different pair is re-formed. In this phase, on-off intermittency is also observed and statistical analyses are carried out for on-off intermittent time series. This intermittency is considered as a hybrid type of intermittency with both on-off intermittency and intermittency due to the recombination of synchronized pairs present in the same time series. The interaction of strong low-area pulses with two-level systems shows absorption line narrowing and hole burning within the homogeneous linewidth as a result of nonlinear wave mixing. The wave mixing results from the two-level electronic saturation nonlinearity and occurs, depending on the sign of the pulse area, as a strong absorption enhancement or gain at the transition frequency of the two-level system for resonant excitation.  相似文献

We observe linewidths below the natural linewidth for a probe laser on a degenerate two-level F → F′ transition, when the same transition is driven by a strong control laser. We take advantage of the fact that each level of the transition is made of multiple magnetic sublevels, and use the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) or absorption (EIA) in multilevel systems. Optical pumping by the control laser redistributes the population so that only a few sublevels contribute to the probe absorption, an explanation which is verified by a density-matrix analysis of the relevant sublevels. We observe more than a factor of 3 reduction in linewidth in the D2 line of Rb in room-temperature vapor. Such subnatural features vastly increase the scope of applications of EIT, such as high-resolution spectroscopy and tighter locking of lasers to atomic transitions, since it is not always possible to find a suitable third level.  相似文献

The low-intensity light pulse propagation through three-coupled semiconductor quantum wells is studied with the Schrödinger equations. Phase-controlled slow light propagation with little gain is observed in this system. For its flexible design and its wide adjustable parameters, such a semiconductor system is better than its atomic counterpart. Such investigation of properties may provide a new way for realizing slow light and lead to important applications in high-fidelity optical delay lines and optical buffers.  相似文献

采用Pound-Drerer-Hall稳频技术将689 nm激光锁定在高精细度超稳极低膨胀系数材料腔上,实现用于探测锶原子互组跃迁谱的窄线宽激光.利用光腔衰荡光谱技术,测量了不同阶次多横模情况下腔的精细度,并在理论上分析了平凹型Fabry-Perot腔的损耗与多横模阶次的关系.考虑了光开关延时及探测器响应时间在测量中的影响,对腔衰荡时间的实验测量值进行了修正.利用光纤飞秒光频梳测量了激光器的频率漂移,测出窄线宽激光频率稳定度的秒稳优于2.8×10-13.利用窄线宽激光在锶原子束上观测到具有高信噪比的窄线宽原子跃迁谱线,实验测得谱线的线宽为55 kHz,该窄线宽原子谱线可应用于锶原子二级冷却激光绝对频率的精确测量及锶原子互组跃迁谱的四种同位素位移测量.  相似文献

The reflection X-ray spectra have been studied experimentally and theoretically in the case of the grazing incidence of radiation on the plane surface and walls of the channels of microchannel plates. The fine structure of the X-ray spectra, as well as the angular distribution of the field passed through microchannels, has been analyzed for the energy corresponding to the anomalous dispersion region of the Si L 2, 3 absorption edge. The theoretical calculations have been performed within the model including the transition layer on the surface of the sample.  相似文献

We investigate two-dimensional (2D) electron localization via phase-controlled absorption and gain of a weak probe field in an asymmetric semiconductor three-coupled quantum well (TCQW) with a closed loop under the action of two orthogonal standing-wave fields. It is found that we can achieve high-precision and high-resolution 2D electron localization via properly varying the parameters of the system. The influences of direct one-photon transition and indirect three-photon transition on the precision of probe absorption–gain spectra are also discussed in details. Thus, the proposed scheme shows the underlying probability for the formation of the 2D electron localization in a solid.  相似文献

Assuming a regular geometry of dispersed phase (λ 2) an integrated theory for the effective thermal conductivityλ e of all kind of two-phase materials (including loose materials) is developed. The flux modification is carried out by considering the effective neighbouring interactions in the solution of Poisson’s equation. A comparison of calculatedλ e values with the reported experimental results over a wide range of two-phase materials shows a good agreement.  相似文献

We theoretically analysed the linewidth of the probe absorption spectrum in a cold Cs atom--molecule system. The tunnelling coupling between the two excited molecular states, especially for the Cs atom--molecule system, plays an important role in obtaining the sub-natural linewidth of the probe absorption spectrum. For example, when the tunnelling couple strength fulfils \sigma _12=10γ _ab1, the linewidth is only about 0.66~MHz. Moreover, since the linewidth of interest is dominated by the tunnelling coupling, the absorption peak becomes very narrow even in the case of large pump laser intensities.  相似文献

In the semiclassical trace formula for the level density of a circular disk in homogeneous magnetic fields, quantum corrections to the Maslov phase have been shown to be important in strong fields. In this article further quantum corrections are considered, namely, grazing corrections which are relevant for whispering-gallery orbits, and a uniform approximation to the bifurcation points in strong fields is applied. Both corrections are shown to have a surprisingly small effect on the semiclassical level density. Implementing those corrections requires a technique different from the common Gaussian smoothing in the numerical evaluation of the trace formula. A Tm-doped double-clad fiber MOPA system is built. Amplification characteristics of a Tm-doped double-clad narrow linewidth fiber master oscillator (MO) are investigated both experimentally and numerically. Linewidth of the fiber MO is only 112 pm at 3 W output. The output and efficiency of the MOPA system increase with the injected seed power. When the seed power is increased to 2 W, a maximum output of 10.5 W is obtained with a slope efficiency of 41.5%. Spectral center of the output lies at 1996.7 nm with the linewidth no bigger than 120 pm throughout the experiment.  相似文献

The temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocrystals deposited inside the ultraviolet (UV) opal were studied. ZnO was grown in the voids between FCC packed SiO2 spheres using spray pyrolysis under ultrasonic vibration in the solution containing a zinc nitrate precursor. The ZnO nanoparticles inside opal matrix with UV photonic band-gap exhibit suppression of the excitonic emission and enhancement of the deep level emission. Suppression of the excitonic lines is due to the inhibition of spontaneous emission, while enhancement and broadening of the DL emission in the green spectral region is due to Purcell effect. The infiltration of ZnO nanoparticles inside the photonic crystal may be a useful technique to increase its emission efficiency in the selected spectral region.  相似文献
