This paper describes the effect of 5-nm thick platinum (Pt), aluminum (Al) and silicon oxide (SiOx) capping layers on the static and dynamic magnetic properties of 400-nm thick polycrystalline YIG films deposited on a Pt buffer layer. Both static and dynamic magnetic properties of Pt capped YIG film are totally different among all YIG films. Namely, the squareness of the magnetization curve for Pt capped YIG film increases, indicating that Pt capped YIG film is magnetically softer than other YIG films. Interestingly, the effective Gilbert damping parameter of Pt capped YIG films is about four times as large as those of other YIG films, and its value is approximately 9.52 × 10−4. However, the value of Gilbert damping is 2.55 × 10−4, 3.46 × 10−4 and 3.85 × 10−4 respectively for no capping, SiOx capping and Al capping samples respectively. This huge change in Gilbert damping parameter is mainly originating from the spin pumping effect, which arises at the interface of a material having strong spin orbit interaction such as Pt. Moreover, the enourmous increase in the value of effective anisotropic field and decrese in effective saturation magnetization indicates interface anisotropy is induced in Pt capped sample. These results suggest that the static and dynamic magnetic properties of YIG film can be controlled by selecting an appropriate capping layer.  相似文献

The time-resolved magnetic response of ultrathin epitaxial Fe(001) films grown on GaAs(001) and covered by Au, Pd, and Cr capping layers was investigated by time and spatially resolved Kerr effect measurements. The magnetization was excited by an in-plane magnetic field pulse using the transient internal field generated at a Schottky barrier while the wavelength of the excitation (resonant mode) was roughly 4 microm. Each of the three cap layers affected the spin relaxation in a unique way. Au cap layers resulted in the bulk Gilbert damping of the Fe film. Pd cap layers caused an additional Gilbert damping due to spin-pump or spin-sink effects. Cr cap layers lead to a strong extrinsic damping which can be described by two-magnon scattering. In this case the strength of the extrinsic damping can be controlled by a field induced shift of the spin wave manifold with respect to the excited k vector.  相似文献

Spin currents, which are excited in indium tin oxide(ITO)/yttrium iron garnet(YIG) by the methods of spin pumping and spin Seebeck effect, are investigated through the inverse spin Hall effect(ISHE). It is demonstrated that the ISHE voltage can be generated in ITO by spin pumping under both in-plane and out-of-plane magnetization configurations. Moreover, it is observed that the enhancement of spin Hall angle and interfacial spin mixing conductance can be achieved by an appropriate annealing process. However, the ISHE voltage is hardly seen in the presence of a longitudinal temperature gradient. The absence of the longitudinal spin Seebeck effect can be ascribed to the almost equal thermal conductivity of ITO and YIG and specific interface structure, or to the large negative temperature dependent spin mixing conductance.  相似文献

Yttrium iron garnet (YIG) films possessing both perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) and low damping would serve as ideal candidates for high-speed energy-efficient spintronic and magnonic devices. However, it is still challenging to achieve PMA in YIG films thicker than 20 nm, which is a major bottleneck for their development. In this work, we demonstrate that this problem can be solved by using substrates with moderate lattice mismatch with YIG so as to suppress the excessive strain-induced stress release as increasing the YIG thickness. After carefully optimizing the growth and annealing conditions, we have achieved out-of-plane spontaneous magnetization in YIG films grown on sGGG substrates, even when they are as thick as 50 nm. Furthermore, ferromagnetic resonance and spin pumping induced inverse spin Hall effect measurements further verify the good spin transparency at the surface of our YIG films.  相似文献

We report the temperature dependence of the spin pumping effect for Y3Fe5O12 (YIG, 0.9 μm)/NiO (tNiO)/W (6 nm) (tNiO = 0 nm, 1 nm, 2 nm, and 10 nm) heterostructures. All samples exhibit a strong temperature-dependent inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE) signal Ic and sensitivity to the NiO layer thickness. We observe a dramatic decrease of Ic with inserting thin NiO layer between YIG and W layers indicating that the inserting of NiO layer significantly suppresses the spin transport from YIG to W. In contrast to the noticeable enhancement in YIG/NiO (tNiO ≈ 1-2 nm)/Pt, the suppression of spin transport may be closely related to the specific interface-dependent spin scattering, spin memory loss, and spin conductance at the NiO/W interface. Besides, the Ic of YIG/NiO/W exhibits a maximum near the TN of the AF NiO layer because the spins are transported dominantly by incoherent thermal magnons.  相似文献

A series of equidistant oscillations have been revealed in the transmission spectrum and dispersion law of Damon–Eshbach surface magnetostatic waves (SMSWs) propagating in submicron (200-nm) yttrium–iron garnet (YIG) films manufactured by means of ion-beam sputtering onto gadolinium–gallium garnet (GGG) substrates. These oscillations correspond to the excitation of magnetoelastic waves in the YIG–GGG structure at frequencies of resonant interaction between the surface magnetostatic waves and the elastic shear modes of the wave-guiding YIG–GGG structure. The obtained results show that the studied YIG films are characterized by an efficient magnetoelastic coupling between their spin and elastic subsystems and the matching of acoustic impedances at the YIG–GGG interface, thus providing the possibility to consider the ion-beam sputtering of YIG films onto GGG substrates as a promising technology for the creation of magnonic and straintronic devices.  相似文献

Rhodium (Rh) is a 4d metal possessing a large spin orbit coupling strength and spin-Hall conductivity with a very small magnetic susceptibility, implying an insignificant magnetic proximity effect (MPE). We report here the observation of longitudinal spin Seebeck effect (LSSE) using Rh as a normal metal. A Rh film was sputtered on nanometer thick YIG films of highly crystalline nature and extremely low magnetic damping to obtain Rh/YIG hybrid structure. A clear thermal voltage Vth (SSE voltage) was obtained when a temperature gradient was applied on the Rh/YIG hybrid. The Rh film showed a very weak anomalous Hall resistance and the magneto-resistive testing clearly ruled out the magnetization of the Rh films via MPE. The anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) revealed a clear spin hall magnetoresistance (SMR) signal in Rh film implying a purely intrinsic spin current generation, free from any parasitic magnetic effects. The work can open a new window in the study of pure and uncontaminated spin current, generated in ferromagnetic insulators, using Rh as spin current detector.  相似文献

The in-plane magnetic anisotropy of Fe/NiO bilayers was studied quantitatively as a function of NiO thickness using the magneto-optical Kerr effect with a rotating field. For NiO thicker than the ordering transition thickness, the total in-plane fourfold anisotropy of the Fe layer decreases with NiO thickness in Fe/NiO/Au(001), but increases in Fe/NiO/MgO(001). Our result indicates that the exchange coupling in an Fe/NiO bilayer might induce an additional in-plane fourfold anisotropy, and the opposite thickness dependent behaviors may be attributed to the different Ni2+ antiferromagnetic spin orientations for NiO films grown on Au(001) and MgO(001) surfaces.  相似文献

We report an experimental study on magneto-optical (MO) Kerr effects of yttrium-iron garnet (YIG) thin films incorporating Au nanoparticles. The polar MO Kerr spectra in the wavelength between 400 and 800 nm show that, by incorporating the Au nanoparticles, Kerr rotation angles become negative values in the region, where the localized surface plasmon polariton (SPP) resonance of the Au nanoparticles is located. The anomalous Kerr rotation indicates a possible coupling between the MO Kerr effect of YIG and the SPP. A mechanism for the coupling is discussed.  相似文献

We revealed the micromagnetic structure of an Fe thin film exchange interacting with the spins of a fully compensated (001) surface of antiferromagnetic NiO. The interface exchange interaction causes the Fe domains to follow the NiO domains. The Fe spin polarization is in plane and the spin polarization in each domain is roughly perpendicular to an easy-spin axis of the NiO. These results agree with numerically calculated spin directions. Our numerical results also show that the NiO spins at the interface cant from the easy-spin axis towards the Fe spin because of exchange coupling.  相似文献

Using low-temperature (5 K) spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy, we have studied the morphology and magnetic properties of monolayer (ML) and double layer (DL) thick Fe nanowires grown by step flow on a Mo(110) single crystal. Magnetic contrast has been obtained using tungsten tips covered by Au/Co thin films. We find that the DL Fe nanowires, similarly to ML Fe nanowires, are perpendicularly magnetized. Because of the dipolar coupling, separated DL Fe nanowires are antiferromagnetically coupled. DL wires that are touching at step edges are ferromagnetically ordered due to direct exchange coupling. We measured the widths of the magnetic domain walls in the ML and DL Fe nanowires. The domain wall width increases with the thickness of Fe.  相似文献

The spatially oscillating electron spin polarization in the Ag spacer of a 4 nm Fe/20 nmAg/4 nm Fe(001) epitaxial trilayer has been determined by means of low energy muon spin rotation. It oscillates with the same period as the interlayer exchange coupling, but shows a much weaker attenuation at large distances x from the interface. The measured magnetization profile from the inner 14 nm of the spacer is described by an oscillating polarization decaying as x(-0.8(1)). This unusual behavior may arise from a full confinement of electron states within the spacer.  相似文献

We have investigated the exchange coupling of Fe films across Al- and Au-interlayers with good epitaxial growth. For the first time coupling across Al was found to be antiferromagnetic (a.f.). In addition to the long period oscillations of the coupling now well known from many other systems there are short period oscillations which are clearly visible for Au and faintly visible also for Al. This observation can be correlated with the much better growth of Au interlayers. In both cases we find also a strong contribution of biquadratic coupling, previously identified for the Fe/Cr system. The results strongly support an RKKY-type mechanism as the microscopic origin of these couplings.  相似文献

Magnetic exchange coupling has been observed for ultrathin films of yttrium iron garnet (Y3Fe5O12 or YIG). Single-crystalline YIG films were prepared on yttrium aluminium garnet (Y3Al5O12 or YAG) substrates by pulsed laser deposition. (111) and (110) oriented substrates were used. Film thicknesses were varied from 180 ? to 4600 ?. Epitaxial growth of YIG on YAG was obtained in spite of the lattice mismatch of 3%. Magnetic hysteresis loops recorded for ultrathin YIG films have a “bee-waist” shape and show a coupling between two different magnetic phases. The first phase is magnetically soft YIG. A composition study by secondary ion mass spectroscopy shows the second phase to be Y3Fe5-xAlxO12 due to the interdiffusion of Fe and Al at the film/substrate interface. This compound is known to be magnetically harder and to have weaker magnetization than YIG. The coupling of the two phases leads to a hysteresis loop displacement at low temperatures. This displacement varies differently with film thickness for two substrate orientations. Assuming an interfacial coupling, the maximal interaction energy is estimated to be about 0.17 erg/cm2 at 5 K for (111) oriented sample. We investigate the spin dynamics related to the Gilbert damping constant in infinite continuous thin films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA), based on numerical and analytic approaches. We obtain the dynamic susceptibility of the infinite continuous thin films with various PMA energies by using micromagnetic simulations with periodic boundary conditions. These results are compared with the analytic solution that we derived from the Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation. Based on our numerical and analytic studies, we support the physical analysis for results in the experimental determination of the Gilbert damping constant for PMA materials.  相似文献

Critical current density of composite free layer (CFL) in magnetic tunneling junction is investigated. CFL consists of two exchange coupled ferromagnetic layers, where the coupling is parallel or anti-parallel. Instability condition of the CFL under the spin transfer torque, which is related with critical current density, is obtained by analytic spin wave excitation model and confirmed by macro-spin Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation. The critical current densities for the coupled two identical layers are investigated with various coupling strengths, and spin transfer torque efficiencies.  相似文献

Ultrathin epitaxial Fe films on Cu(1 0 0) with perpendicular magnetization have been used as templates for the preparation of FCC Fe/Cu/Fe trilayers. The magnetic anisotropy and the coupling of these films have been studied by in-situ magneto optical Kerr effect measurements and Kerr microscopy. The magnetic coupling of both Fe layers is found to be dominated by magnetostatic interaction. Adsorbate-induced spin reorientation in the top layer also causes spin reorientation in the bottom layer. The governing role of the Fe-vacuum interface for the magnetism of the whole trilayer is demonstrated.  相似文献

Time-resolved scanning Kerr effect microscopy has been used to study magnetization dynamics in Permalloy thin films excited by transient magnetic pulses generated by a micrometer-scale transmission line structure. The results are consistent with magnetostatic spin wave theory and are supported by micromagnetic simulations. Magnetostatic volume and surface spin waves are measured for the same specimen using different bias field orientations and can be accurately calculated by k-space integrations over all excited plane wave components. A single damping constant of Gilbert form is sufficient to describe both scenarios. The nonuniform pulsed field plays a key role in the spin wave dynamics, with its Fourier transform serving as a weighting function for the participating modes. The intrinsic Gilbert damping parameter alpha is most conveniently measured when the spin waves are effectively stationary.  相似文献

Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of (110)YBa(2)Cu(3)O(7-delta)/Au bilayers reveal a proximity effect markedly different from the conventional one. While proximity-induced mini-gaps rarely appear in the Au layer, the Andreev bound states clearly penetrate into the metal. Zero bias conductance peaks are measured on Au layers thinner than 7 nm with a magnitude similar to those detected on the bare superconductor films. The peaks then decay abruptly with Au thickness and disappear above 10 nm. This length is shorter than the normal coherence length and corresponds to the (ballistic) mean free path.  相似文献
