A construction of the Stone—ech compactification of a locale L is presented in this paper as a quotient of the frame of radical ideals of the algebra C *(L). As a corollary, a constructive, localic version of the Gelfand—Kolmogorov theorem is obtained.  相似文献

Spectrum and analytical indices of the C-algebra of Wiener-Hopf operators   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We study multivariate generalisations of the classical Wiener-Hopf algebra, which is the C-algebra generated by the Wiener-Hopf operators, given by convolutions restricted to convex cones. By the work of Muhly and Renault, this C-algebra is known to be isomorphic to the reduced C-algebra of a certain restricted action groupoid, given by the action of Euclidean space on a certain compactification. Using groupoid methods, we construct composition series for the Wiener-Hopf C-algebra by a detailed study of this compactification. We compute the spectrum, and express homomorphisms in K-theory induced by the symbol maps which arise by the subquotients of the composition series in analytical terms. Namely, these symbols maps turn out to be given by an analytical family index of a continuous family of Fredholm operators. In a subsequent paper, we also obtain a topological expression of these indices.  相似文献

We study the structure of the flow monoid of a regular semigroup. This arises from the approach of Nambooripad of considering a regular semigroup as a groupoid – a category in which every morphism is invertible. A flow is then a section to the source map in this groupoid, and the monoid structure of the set of all flows is determined in terms of the Green relations on the original semigroup.  相似文献

We study incompressible tori in 3-manifolds supporting pseudo-Anosov flows and more generally ZZ subgroups of the fundamental group of such a manifold. If no element in this subgroup can be represented by a closed orbit of the pseudo-Anosov flow, we prove that the flow is topologically conjugate to a suspension of an Anosov diffeomorphism of the torus. In particular it is non singular and is an Anosov flow. It follows that either a pseudo-Anosov flow is topologically conjugate to a suspension Anosov flow, or any immersed incompressible torus can be realized as a free homotopy from a closed orbit of the flow to itself. The key tool is an analysis of group actions on non-Hausdorff trees, also known as R-order trees – we produce an invariant axis in the free action case. An application of these results is the following: suppose the manifold has an R-covered foliation transverse to a pseudo-Anosov flow. If the flow is not an R-covered Anosov flow, then it follows that the manifold is atoroidal.  相似文献

We prove that if the one-point compactification of a locally compact, noncompact Hausdorff space L is the topological space called pseudoarc, then C0(L,C) is almost transitive. We investigate various features of a quite new family of graphs, introduced as a possible example of vertex-transitive graph not roughly isometric with a Cayley graph of some finitely generated group. We exhibit a natural compactification and study a large class of random walks, proving theorems concerning almost sure convergence to the boundary, a strong law of large numbers and a central limit theorem. The asymptotic type of then-step transition probabilities of the simple random walk is determined.  相似文献

We give a comprehensive account of an analytic approach to spectral flow along paths of self-adjoint Breuer–Fredholm operators in a type I or II von Neumann algebra N. The framework is that of odd unbounded-summable Breuer–Fredholm modules for a unital Banach *-algebra, A. In the type II case spectral flow is real-valued, has no topological definition as an intersection number and our formulae encompass all that is known. We borrow Ezra Getzlers idea (suggested by I. M. Singer) of considering spectral flow (and eta invariants) as the integral of a closed one-form on an affine space. Applications in both the types I and II cases include a general formula for the relative index of two projections, representing truncated eta functions as integrals of one forms and expressing spectral flow in terms of the JLO cocycle to give the pairing of the K-homology and K-theory of A.  相似文献

Solving a problem of Diestel [9] relevant to the theory of cycle spaces of infinite graphs, we show that the Freudenthal compactification of a locally finite graph can have connected subsets that are not path-connected. However we prove that connectedness and path-connectedness to coincide for all but a few sets, which have a complicated structure.  相似文献

We describe the implementation and testing of two methods, based on the auction approach, for solving the problem of minimizing a separable convex cost subject to generalized network flow conservation constraints. The first method is the -relaxation method of Ref. 1; the second is an extension of the auction sequential/shortest path algorithm for ordinary network flow to generalized network flow. We report test results on a large set of randomly generated problems with varying topology, arc gains, and cost function. Comparison with the commercial code CPLEX on linear/quadratic cost problems and with the public-domain code PPRN on nonlinear cost ordinary network problems are also made. The test results show that the auction sequential/shortest path algorithm is generally fastest for solving quadratic cost problems and mixed linear/nonlinear cost problems with arc gain range near 1. The -relaxation method is generally fastest for solving nonlinear cost ordinary network problems and mixed linear/nonlinear cost problems with arc gain range away from 1. CPLEX is generally fastest for solving linear cost and mixed linear/quadratic cost problems with arc gain range near 1.  相似文献

We show the space of expanding Blaschke products on S1 is compactified by a sphere of invariant measures, reminiscent of the sphere of geodesic currents for a hyperbolic surface. Perfect compactifications of frames are introduced. It is shown that the Stone-Čech compactification is an example of such a compactification. We also introduce rim-compact frames and for such frames we define its Freudenthal compactification, another example of a perfect compactification. The remainder of a rim-compact frame in its Freudenthal compactification is shown to be zero-dimensional. It is shown that with the assumption of the Boolean Ultrafilter Theorem the Freudenthal compactification for spaces, as well as the Freudenthal-Morita Theorem for spaces, can be obtained from our frame constructions.  相似文献

We study the natural Gieseker and Uhlenbeck compactifications of the rational Calogero–Moser phase space. The Gieseker compactification is smooth and provides a small resolution of the Uhlenbeck compactification. We introduce a ramified monoid, attached to each Brauer–type monoid, that is, to the symmetric group, to the Jones and Brauer monoids among others. Ramified monoids correspond to a class of tied monoids arising from knot theory and are interesting in themselves. The ramified monoid attached to the symmetric group is the Coxeter-like version of the so–called tied braid monoid. We give a presentation of the ramified monoid attached to the Brauer monoid. Also, we introduce and study two tied-like monoids that cannot be described as ramified monoids. However, these monoids can also be regarded as tied versions of the Jones and Brauer monoids.  相似文献

In this paper, we define and study what we call the double Catalan monoid. This monoid is the image of a natural map from the 0-Hecke monoid to the monoid of binary relations. We show that the double Catalan monoid provides an algebraization of the (combinatorial) set of 4321-avoiding permutations and relate its combinatorics to various off-shoots of both the combinatorics of Catalan numbers and the combinatorics of permutations. In particular, we give an algebraic interpretation of the first derivative of the Kreweras involution on Dyck paths, of 4321-avoiding involutions and of recent results of Barnabei et al. on admissible pairs of Dyck paths. We compute a presentation and determine the minimal dimension of an effective representation for the double Catalan monoid. We also determine the minimal dimension of an effective representation for the 0-Hecke monoid.  相似文献

We characterize those regular continuous frames for which the least compactification is a perfect compactification. Perfect compactifications are those compactifications of frames for which the right adjoint of the compactification map preserves disjoint binary joins. Essential to our characterization is the construction of the frame analog of the two-point compactification of a locally compact Hausdorff space, and the concept of remainder in a frame compactification. Indeed, one of the characterizations is that the remainder of the regular continuous frame in each of its compactifications is compact and connected.  相似文献

The Catalan monoid and partial Catalan monoid of a directed graph are introduced. Also introduced is the notion of a local endomorphism of a tree, and it is shown that the Catalan (resp. partial Catalan) monoid of a tree is simply its monoid of extensive local endomorphisms (resp. partial endomorphisms) of finite shift. The main results of this paper are presentations for the Catalan and partial Catalan monoids of a tree. Our presentation for the Catalan monoid of a tree is used to give an alternative proof for a result of Higgins. We also identify results of Aîzen?tat and Popova which give presentations for the Catalan monoid and partial Catalan monoid of a finite symmetric chain.  相似文献

The generators of the Temperley-Lieb algebra generate a monoid with an appealing geometric representation. It has been much studied, notably by Louis Kauffman. Borisavljevi?, Do?en, and Petri? gave a complete proof of its abstract presentation by generators and relations, and suggested the name “Kauffman monoid”. We bring the theory of semigroups to the study of a certain finite homomorphic image of the Kauffman monoid. We show the homomorphic image (the Jones monoid) to be a combinatorial and regular *-semigroup with linearly ordered ideals. The Kauffman monoid is explicitly described in terms of the Jones monoid and a purely combinatorial numerical function. We use this to describe the ideal structure of the Kauffman monoid and two other of its homomorphic images.  相似文献
