Generalized variational inequalities and generalized quasi-variational inequalities

Under much weaker hypotheses and in a more general setting some existence theorems of solutions to generalized variational inequalities,generalized quasi-varia-tional inequalities and minimax inequalities are established.The results presented in this paper generalize the corresponding results of[3—13]to the noncompact case,thus improving these results.

Existence and algorithm of solutions for general multivalued mixed implicit quasi-variational inequalities

A new class of general multivalued mixed implicit quasi-variational inequalities in a real Hilbert space was introduced, which includes the known class of generalized mixed implicit quasi-variational inequalities as a special case , introduced and studied by Ding Xie-ping . The auxiliary variational principle technique was applied to solve this class of general multivalued mixed implicit quasi-variational inequalities. Firstly, a new auxiliary variational inequality with a proper convex , lower semicontinuous , binary functional was defined and a suitable functional was chosen so that its unique minimum point is equivalent to the solution of such an auxiliary variational inequality . A three-dimensional optimal control problem in determining the boundary control heat fluxes

A three-dimensional optimal control algorithm in determining the strength of the unknown optimal boundary control heat fluxes utilizing the Conjugate Gradient Method (CGM) and a general purpose commercial code CFX4.2 is applied successfully in the present study based on the desired domain temperature distributions at the final time of heating. Results obtained by using the conjugate gradient method to solve this three-dimensional optimal control problems are justified based on the numerical experiments. Two different computational domains and two different desired temperature distributions are given and the corresponding optimal control heat fluxes are to be determined. Results show that the optimal control heat fluxes can always be obtained with any arbitrary initial guesses of the boundary fluxes.     

Optimal obstacle control problem

In the paper we discuss some properties of the state operators of the optimal obstacle control problem for elliptic variational inequality.Existence,uniqueness and regularity of the optimal control,problem are established.In addition,the approximation of the optimal obstacle problem is also studied.

Optimal control of structures governed by variational and hemiva-riational inequalities and applications

The optimal control problem for broad classes of structures is studied, including those structures having as state relations variational equalities, variational inequalities and hemivariational inequalities. The optimal control problem consists in the minimization of a functional (performance index) having the state relation, enlarged by the control actions, as side condition. Certain new results are given of the optimal control of structures governed by variational and hemivariational inequalities.Some propositions are proved on the existence and the approximation of the solution of the static optimal control problem of structures having a variational inequality as state relation. Then a regularization procedure is proposed for the treatment of corresponding dynamic problem, as well as for the case of hemivariational inequalities. The theory is illustrated by applications concerning convex elastoplasticity and convex and nonconvex unilateral contact problems.

A control problem for Burgers' equation with bounded input/output

A stabilization problem for Burgers' equation is considered. Using linearization, various controllers are constructed which minimize certain weighted energy functionals. These controllers produce the desired degree of stability for the closed-loop nonlinear system. A numerical scheme for computing the feedback gain functional is developed and several numerical experiments are performed to illustrate the theoretical results.     

Special cases in a control problem

A number of control problems for mechanical systems with feedback are reduced to a matrix algebraic Riccati equation. The exact solutions of matrix algebraic Riccati equations with singularities are presented. These singularities do not permit the use of standard solution procedures. Asymptotic solutions of these equations are found in the neighborhood of the singular points. Quasi-variational inequalities and social equilibrium

A quasi-variational inequality is proved in paracompact setting which generalizes theresults of Zhou Chen and Aubin.As applications,two existence theorems on the solutions ofoptimization problems and social equilibria ofmetagames are showed which improve andextend the recent results of Kaczynski-Zeidan and Aubin.     

Water quality control by bank placement based on optimal control and finite element method

This paper presents a method for quality control by bank placement based on an optimal control theory and the finite element method. The shallow water equation is employed for the analysis of the flow condition and the advection‐diffusion equation is used for the analysis of pollutant concentration. The optimal control theory is utilized to obtain a control value for the objective state value. The shear‐slip mesh update method which is suitable for the rotational problem of body is employed. To solve the optimization problem, the time domain decomposition method is applied as a technique of storage requirements reduction. The Sakawa–Shindo method is employed as a minimization technique. Symplectic multi-level method for solving nonlinear optimal control problem

By converting an optimal control problem for nonlinear systems to a Hamiltonian system,a symplecitc-preserving method is proposed.The state and costate variables are approximated by the Lagrange polynomial.The state variables at two ends of the time interval are taken as independent variables.Based on the dual variable principle,nonlinear optimal control problems are replaced with nonlinear equations.Furthermore,in the implementation of the symplectic algorithm,based on the 2N algorithm,a multilevel method is proposed.When the time grid is refined from low level to high level,the initial state and costate variables of the nonlinear equations can be obtained from the Lagrange interpolation at the low level grid to improve efficiency.Numerical simulations show the precision and the efficiency of the proposed algorithm in this paper.     

On the control problem for a compound wheeled vehicle

A compound transport vehicle with one steerable wheel is considered as a controlled mechanical system with nonholonomic constraints. A control system for this system is synthesized within the framework of the kinematic approximation. A procedure is proposed to synthesize a robust controller for the system. The existence problem of optimal control for nonlinear processes

The existence problem of optimal control systemsdescribed by z=f(t,x.u)is discussed in this paper,where f(f,x,u)is a more general function and theclass of admissible control functions are generalenough to contain those control functions which arefrequently used in engineering.The problem for anoptimal control approximated by a sequence of controlfunctions being part of certain function classes isconsidered here,an example in contradiction with theconclusion of ref.[1]about this problem is given,and a correct conclusion is presented.     

On the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a class of variational inequalities with applications to the signorini problem in mechanics

In this paper,we introduce a new unified and general class of variational inequalities,and show some existence and uniqueness results of solutions for this kind of variationalinequalities.As an application,we utilize the results presented in this paper to study theSignorini problem in mechanics.
