The well-known “Bernstein’s weighted problem” deals with the possibility of weighted approximation on the whole real line. In this paper, we show the possibility of k-monotone approximation on the real line with Freud’s weight .     

Existence of periodic solutions for a fourth-order -Laplacian equation with a deviating argument

In this paper, we study the existence of periodic solutions for a fourth-order p-Laplacian differential equation with a deviating argument as follows:

[φ_p(u^″(t))]^″+f(u^″(t))+g(u(t−τ(t)))=e(t).

Under various assumptions, the existence of periodic solutions of the problem is obtained by applying Mawhin’s continuation theorem.     

A hybrid approximation method for equilibrium and fixed point problems for a family of infinitely nonexpansive mappings and a monotone mapping

In this paper, we introduce a new iterative scheme for finding a common element of the set of fixed points of a family of infinitely nonexpansive mappings, the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem and the set of solutions of the variational inequality for α-inverse-strongly monotone mapping in the framework of a Hilbert space. Under suitable conditions, some strong convergence theorems for approximating a common element of the above three sets are obtained. Additionally, we utilize our results to study the optimization problem and find a zero of a maximal monotone operator and a strictly pseudocontractive mapping in a real Hilbert space. Our results improve and extend the results announced by many others.     

Formal systems of fuzzy logic and their fragments

Formal systems of fuzzy logic (including the well-known Łukasiewicz and Gödel–Dummett infinite-valued logics) are well-established logical systems and respected members of the broad family of the so-called substructural logics closely related to the famous logic BCK. The study of fragments of logical systems is an important issue of research in any class of non-classical logics. Here we study the fragments of nine prominent fuzzy logics to all sublanguages containing implication. However, the results achieved in the paper for those nine logics are usually corollaries of theorems with much wider scope of applicability. In particular, we show how many of these fragments are really distinct and we find axiomatic systems for most of them. In fact, we construct strongly separable axiomatic systems for eight of our nine logics. We also fully answer the question for which of the studied fragments the corresponding class of algebras forms a variety. Finally, we solve the problem how to axiomatize predicate versions of logics without the lattice disjunction (an essential connective in the usual axiomatic system of fuzzy predicate logics).     

Algorithm for solving a new class of general mixed variational inequalities in Banach spaces

In this paper, a new concept of η-proximal mapping for a proper subdifferentiable functional (which may not be convex) on a Banach space is introduced. An existence and Lipschitz continuity of the η-proximal mapping are proved. By using properties of the η-proximal mapping, a new class of general mixed variational inequalities is introduced and studied in Banach spaces. An existence theorem of solutions is established and a new iterative algorithm for solving the general mixed variational inequality is suggested. A convergence criteria of the iterative sequence generated by the new algorithm is also given.     

A completeness result for the simply typed -calculus

In this paper, we define a realizability semantics for the simply typed λμ-calculus. We show that, if a term is typable, then it inhabits the interpretation of its type. This result serves to give characterizations of the computational behavior of some closed typed terms. We also prove a completeness result of our realizability semantics using a particular term model.     

Minimum degree conditions for -linked graphs

For a fixed multigraph H with vertices w₁,…,w_m, a graph G is H-linked if for every choice of vertices v₁,…,v_m in G, there exists a subdivision of H in G such that v_i is the branch vertex representing w_i (for all i). This generalizes the notions of k-linked, k-connected, and k-ordered graphs.Given a connected multigraph H with k edges and minimum degree at least two and n7.5k, we determine the least integer d such that every n-vertex simple graph with minimum degree at least d is H-linked. This value D(H,n) appears to equal the least integer d^′ such that every n-vertex graph with minimum degree at least d^′ is b(H)-connected, where b(H) is the maximum number of edges in a bipartite subgraph of H.     

Existence results for -point boundary value problem of second order ordinary differential equations

This study concerns the existence of positive solutions to the boundary value problemwhere ξ_i(0,1) with 0<ξ₁<ξ₂<<ξ_n-2<1, a_i, b_i[0,∞) with and . By applying the Krasnoselskii's fixed-point theorem in Banach spaces, some sufficient conditions guaranteeing the existence of at least one positive solution or at least two positive solutions are established for the above general n-point boundary value problem.     

Convergence for a class of delayed recurrent neural networks without M-matrix condition

In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions to a class of recurrent neural network model with delays. Without assuming M-matrix condition, it is shown that every solution of the network tends to an equilibrium point as t→∞. Our results improve and extend some corresponding ones already known.     

On the nonlinear wave equation with the mixed nonhomogeneous conditions: Linear approximation and asymptotic expansion of solutions

On the forms of the truncated LU decomposition

Matrix LU decomposition has six ijk forms. Different forms have different computational complexities and storage requirements, particularly on vector and parallel computers. Other factors governing the choice of a particular form are considered. For treating Fredholm integral equations of the first kind, the truncated LU decomposition of the resulting system matrix is recommended. Required modifications to selected known ijk forms are presented.     

An iterative algorithm based on -proximal mappings for a system of generalized implicit variational inclusions in Banach spaces

In this paper, we give the notion of M-proximal mapping, an extension of P-proximal mapping given in [X.P. Ding, F.Q. Xia, A new class of completely generalized quasi-variational inclusions in Banach spaces, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 147 (2002) 369–383], for a nonconvex, proper, lower semicontinuous and subdifferentiable functional on Banach space and prove its existence and Lipschitz continuity. Further, we consider a system of generalized implicit variational inclusions in Banach spaces and show its equivalence with a system of implicit Wiener–Hopf equations using the concept of M-proximal mappings. Using this equivalence, we propose a new iterative algorithm for the system of generalized implicit variational inclusions. Furthermore, we prove the existence of solution of the system of generalized implicit variational inclusions and discuss the convergence and stability analysis of the iterative algorithm.     

-adic refinable functions and MRA-based wavelets

The main goal of this paper is the development of the MRA theory in . We described a wide class of p-adic refinement equations generating p-adic multiresolution analyses. A method for the construction of p-adic orthogonal wavelet bases within the framework of the MRA theory is suggested. A realization of this method is illustrated by an example which gives a new 3-adic wavelet basis. Another realization leads to the p-adic Haar bases which were known before.     

Spectral theory for algebraic combinations of Toeplitz and composition operators

We determine the essential spectra of algebraic combinations of Toeplitz operators with continuous symbol and composition operators induced by a class of linear-fractional non-automorphisms of the unit disk. The operators in question act on the Hardy space H² on the unit disk. Our method is to realize the C^*-algebra that they generate as an extension of the compact operators by a concrete C^*-algebra whose invertible elements are easily characterized.     

A note on preconditioned AOR method for -matrices

In this note, some errors in a recent article by Li et al. (Improvements of preconditioned AOR iterative methods for L-matrices, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 206 (2007) 656–665) are pointed out and some correct results are presented.     

Best approximation and moduli of smoothness: Computation and equivalence theorems

In this paper we investigate the trigonometric series with the β-general monotone coefficients. First, we study the uniform convergence criterion. The estimates of best approximations and moduli of smoothness of the series in uniform metrics are obtained in terms of coefficients. These results imply several important relations between moduli of smoothness of different orders (in particular, Marchaud-type inequality) and best approximations.     

A new exclusion test for finding the global minimum

Exclusion algorithms have been used recently to find all solutions of a system of nonlinear equations or to find the global minimum of a function over a compact domain. These algorithms are based on a minimization condition that can be applied to each cell in the domain. In this paper, we consider Lipschitz functions of order α and give a new minimization condition for the exclusion algorithm. Furthermore, convergence and complexity results are presented for such algorithm.     

Asymptotic constancy for a differential equation with multiple state-dependent delays

In this paper, we investigate the asymptotic behavior of solutions to a differential equation with multiple state-dependent delays. It is shown that every bounded solution of such an equation tends to a constant as t→∞. Our results improve and extend some corresponding ones already known.     

A quantitative version of Trotter's approximation theorem

A quantitative version, based on modified K-functionals, of the classical Trotter's theorem concerning the approximation of C₀-semigroups is presented. The result is applied to the study of the degree of convergence of the iterated Bernstein operators on the N-dimensional simplex to their limiting semigroup.     

Anti-periodic solutions for a class of nonlinear th-order differential equations with delays

In this paper, we use the Leray–Schauder degree theory to establish new results on the existence and uniqueness of anti-periodic solutions for a class of nonlinear nth-order differential equations with delays of the form
