We have investigated the scaling behavior of the quantum Hall plateau transition in double quantum well systems with different interlayer tunneling strengths. The scaling behavior of the localization property is found to be similar between the case when the relevant Landau level (LL) is non-degenerate and the case when two LLs associated with the two layers are accidentally degenerate. In both cases, the scaling exponent κ0.4 close to the canonical value is obtained, and it is unaffected by the in-plane magnetic field which changes the interlayer tunneling strength.  相似文献

We measure the dephasing time of the exciton ground state transition in InGaAs quantum dots (QD) and quantum dot molecules (QDM) using a sensitive four-wave mixing technique. In the QDs we find experimental evidence that the dephasing time is given only by the radiative lifetime at low temperatures. We demonstrate the tunability of the radiatively limited dephasing time from 400 ps up to 2 ns in a series of annealed QDs with increasing energy separation of 69–330 meV from the wetting layer continuum. Furthermore, the distribution of the fine-structure splitting δ1 and of the biexciton binding energy δB is measured. δ1 decreases from 96 to with increasing annealing temperature, indicating an improving circular symmetry of the in-plane confinement potential. The biexciton binding energy shows only a weak dependence on the confinement energy, which we attribute to a compensation between decreasing confinement and decreasing separation of electron and hole. In the QDM we measured the exciton dephasing as function of interdot barrier thickness in the temperature range from 5 to 60 K. At 5 K dephasing times of several hundred picoseconds are found. Moreover, a systematic dependence of the dephasing dynamics on the barrier thickness is observed, showing how the quantum mechanical coupling in the molecules affects the exciton lifetime and acoustic-phonon interaction.  相似文献

Employing an inhomogeneous solvable lattice model, we derive an exact expression for a boundary-to-boundary current on a lattice of finite width. This current is an example of a class of parafermionic observables recently introduced in an attempt to rigorously prove conformal invariance of the scaling limit of critical two-dimensional lattice models. It also corresponds to the spin current at the spin quantum Hall transition in a model introduced by Chalker and Coddington, and generalized by Gruzberg, Ludwig and Read. Our result is derived from a solution of the q-deformed Knizhnik–Zamolodchikov equation, and is expressed in terms of a symplectic Toda-lattice wave-function.  相似文献

We report on the cascade of quantum phase transitions exhibited by tunnel-coupled edge states across a quantum Hall line junction. We identify a series of quantum critical points between successive strong and weak tunneling regimes in the zero-bias conductance. Scaling analysis shows that the conductance near the critical magnetic fields B(c) is a function of a single scaling argument /B-B(c)/T(-kappa), where the exponent kappa=0.42. This puzzling resemblance to a quantum Hall-insulator transition points to the importance of interedge correlation between the coupled edge states.  相似文献

Low temperature magneto-transport properties and electron dephasing mechanisms of phosphorus-doped ZnO thin films grown on (1 1 1) Si substrates with Lu2O3 buffer layers using pulsed laser deposition were investigated in detail by quantum interference and weak localization theories under magnetic fields up to 10 T. The dephasing length follows the temperature dependence with an index p≈1.6 at higher temperatures indicating electron–electron interaction, yet becomes saturated at lower temperatures. Consistent with photoluminescence measurements and the multi-band simulation of the electron concentration, such behavior was associated with the dislocation densities obtained from x-ray diffraction and mobility fittings, where charged edge dislocations acting as inelastic Coulomb scattering centers were affirmed responsible for electron dephasing. Owing to the temperature independence of the dislocation density, the phosphorus-doped ZnO film maintained a Hall mobility of 4.5 cm2 V−1 s−1 at 4 K.  相似文献

We extend the multifractal analysis of the statistics of critical wave functions in quantum Hall systems by calculating numerically the correlations of local amplitudes corresponding to eigenstates at two different energies. Our results confirm multifractal scaling relations which are different from those occurring in conventional critical phenomena. The critical exponent corresponding to the typical amplitude, [Formula: see text], gives an almost complete characterization of the critical behaviour of eigenstates, including correlations. Our results support the interpretation of the local density of states being an order parameter of the Anderson transition.  相似文献

We consider the quantum ferromagnetic transition at zero temperature in clean itinerant electron systems. We find that the Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson order parameter field theory breaks down since the electron-electron interaction leads to singular coupling constants in the Landau- Ginzburg-Wilson functional. These couplings generate an effective long-range interaction between the spin or order parameter fluctuations of the form 1 <r 2 d?1, with d the spatial dimension. This leads to unusual scaling behavior at the quantum critical point in 1 < d ≤ 3, which we determine exactly. We also discuss the quantum-to-classical crossover at small but finite temperatures, which is characterized by the appearance of multiple temperature scales. A comparison with recent results on disordered itinerant ferromagnets is given.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of ρxx is studied in the vicinity of the quantum Hall to quantum Hall insulator transition (ν=1→0) in InSb/InAlSb based 2DESs. ρxx displays a symmetric temperature dependence about the transition with on the QH side and on the insulating side. A plot of 1/T0 for successive ν displays power-law divergence with 1/T0∝|ν−νc|−γ,2 with γ=2.2±0.3. This critical behavior in addition to the behavior expected of the quantum transport regime confirms that the QH/QHI transition is indeed a good quantum phase transition.  相似文献

We investigate magnetic-field asymmetries in the linear transport of a mesoscopic conductor interacting with its environment. Interestingly, we find that the interaction between the two systems causes an asymmetry only when the environment is out of equilibrium. We elucidate our general result with the help of a quantum dot capacitively coupled to a quantum Hall conductor and discuss the asymmetry dependence on the environment bias and induced dephasing.  相似文献

We develop a theory for a generic instability of a Fermi liquid in dimension d>1 against the formation of a Luttinger-liquid-like state. The density of states at the Fermi level is the order parameter for the ensuing quantum phase transition, which is driven by the effective interaction strength. A scaling theory in conjunction with an effective field theory for clean electrons is used to obtain the critical behavior of observables. In the Fermi-liquid phase the order-parameter susceptibility, which is measurable by tunneling, is predicted to diverge for 1相似文献

We present a theoretical interpretation of recent data on the conductance near and farther away from the metal–insulator transition in thin ferromagnetic Gd films of thickness b≈2b2–10 nm. For increasing sheet resistances a dimensional crossover takes place from d=2 to d  =3 dimensions, since the large phase relaxation rate caused by scattering of quasiparticles off spin wave excitations renders the dephasing length L??bL??b at strong disorder. The conductivity data in the various regimes obey fractional power-law or logarithmic temperature dependence. One observes weak localization and interaction induced corrections at weaker disorder. At strong disorder, near the metal–insulator transition, the data show scaling and collapse onto two scaling curves for the metallic and insulating regimes. We interpret this unusual behavior as proof of two distinctly different correlation length exponents on both sides of the transition.  相似文献

We study bilayer quantum Hall systems at total Landau level filling factor nu=1 in the presence of interlayer tunneling and coupling to a dissipative normal fluid. Describing the dynamics of the interlayer phase by an effective quantum dissipative XY model, we show that there exists a critical dissipation sigma(c) set by the conductance of the normal fluid. For sigma>sigma(c), interlayer tunnel splitting drives the system to a nu=1 quantum Hall state. For sigma相似文献

We study the Mott transition in a two-dimensional lattice spinless fermion model with nearest neighbors density–density interactions. By means of a two-dimensional Jordan–Wigner transformation, the model is mapped onto the lattice XXZ spin model, which is shown to possess a quantum group symmetry as a consequence of a recently found solution of the Zamolodchikov tetrahedron equation. A projection (from three to two space–time dimensions) property of the solution is used to identify the symmetry of the model at the Mott critical point as , with deformation parameter q = −1. Based on this result, the low-energy effective field theory for the model is obtained and shown to be a lattice double Chern–Simons theory with coupling constant k = 1 (with the standard normalization). By further employing the effective filed theory methods, we show that the Mott transition that arises is of topological nature, with vortices in an antiferromagnetic array and matter currents characterized by a d-density wave order parameter. We also analyze the behavior of the system upon weak coupling, and conclude that it undergoes a quantum gas–liquid transition which belongs to the Ising universality class.

A Kramers pair of helical edge states in quantum spin Hall effect (QSHE) is robust against normal dephasing but not robust to spin dephasing. In our work, we provide an effective spin dephasing mechanism in the puddles of two-dimensional (2D) QSHE, which is simulated as quantum dots modeled by 2D massive Dirac Hamiltonian. We demonstrate that the spin dephasing effect can originate from the combination of the Rashba spin-orbit coupling and electron-phonon interaction, which gives rise to inelastic backscattering in edge states within the topological insulator quantum dots, although the time-reversal symmetry is preserved throughout. Finally, we discuss the tunneling between extended helical edge states and local edge states in the QSH quantum dots, which leads to backscattering in the extended edge states. These results can explain the more robust edge transport in InAs/GaSb QSH systems.  相似文献

We use the quantum renormalization-group(QRG) method to study the entanglement and quantum phase transition(QPT) in the one-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg-Ising model [Lieb E,Schultz T and Mattis D 1961 Ann.Phys.(N.Y.) 16 407].We find the quantum phase boundary of this model by investigating the evolution of concurrence in terms of QRG iterations. We also investigate the scaling behavior of the system close to the quantum critical point, which shows that the minimum value of the first derivative of concurrence and the position of the minimum scale with an exponent of the system size. Also, the first derivative of concurrence between two blocks diverges at the quantum critical point, which is directly associated with the divergence of the correlation length.  相似文献

A relatively simple and physically transparent model based on quantum percolation and dephasing is employed to construct a global phase diagram which encodes and unifies the critical physics of the quantum Hall, "two-dimensional metal-insulator," classical percolation and, to some extent, superconductor-insulator transitions. Using real-space renormalization group techniques, crossover functions between critical points are calculated. The critical behavior around each fixed point is analyzed and some experimentally relevant puzzles are addressed.  相似文献

We investigate the necessary conditions for the existence of sudden transition or sudden change phenomenon for appropriate initial states under dephasing. As illustrative examples, we study the behaviors of quantum correlation dynamics of two noninteracting qubits in independent and common open spin environments, respectively. For the independent environments case, we find that the quantum correlation dynamics is closely related to the Loschmidt echo and the dynamics exhibits a sudden transition from classical to quantum correlation decay. It is also shown that the sudden change phenomenon may occur for the common environment case and stationary quantum discord is found at the high temperature region of the environment. Finally, we investigate the quantum criticality of the open spin environment by exploring the probability distribution of the Loschmidt echo and the scaling transformation behavior of quantum discord, respectively.  相似文献

It is shown that the “massless chiral edge excitations” are an integral and universal aspect of the low energy dynamics of the ϑ vacuum that has historically gone unnoticed. Within the SU(M+N)/S(U(MU(N)) non-linear sigma model we introduce an effective theory of “edge excitations” that fundamentally explains the quantum Hall effect. In sharp contrast to the common beliefs in the field our results indicate that this macroscopic quantization phenomenon is, in fact, a super universal strong coupling feature of the ϑ angle with the replica limit M=N=0 only playing a role of secondary importance. To demonstrate super universality we revisit the large N expansion of the CP N−1 model. We obtain, for the first time, explicit scaling results for the quantum Hall effect including quantum criticality of the quantum Hall plateau transition. Consequently a scaling diagram is obtained describing the cross-over between the weak coupling “instanton phase” and the strong coupling “quantum Hall phase” of the large N theory. Our results are in accordance with the “instanton picture” of the ϑ angle but fundamentally invalidate all the ideas, expectations and conjectures that are based on the historical “large N picture.”  相似文献
