In this paper, nanostructured ZrO2 films were prepared by electron beam evaporation with the glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique. Columnar films with voids in between formed owing to the self-shadowing effect and the limited diffusion of deposited atoms. The microstructure evolves from slanted columnar structure to helical and pillar structures as the substrate rotational speed increases. The diameter of the columns is in the range of 30–50 nm. A higher rotational speed favors a larger nodule size and a greater surface roughness. Due to the porous structure, the refractive index n of GLAD ZrO2 films varies from 1.75 to 1.80, lower than that of bulk material. A maximum value of birefringence (Δn=0.03) is obtained in a slanted columnar structure, and the relationship between birefringence and microstructure orientation is discussed. Our results demonstrate that glancing angle deposition is a feasible approach for designing the nanostructure and optical properties of thin films.

The antimony doped tin oxide (SnO2:Sb) (ATO) thin films were prepared by oblique angle electron beam evaporation technique. X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, UV-vis-NIR spectrophotometer and four-point probe resistor were employed to characterize the structure, morphology, optical and electrical properties. The results show that oblique angle deposition ATO thin films with tilted columns structure are anisotropic. The in-plane birefringence of optical anisotropy is up to 0.035 at α = 70°, which means that it is suitable as wave plate and polarizer. The electrical anisotropy of sheet resistance shows that the sheet resistance parallel to the deposition plane is larger than that perpendicular to the deposition plane and it can be changed from 900 Ω/□ to 3500 Ω/□ for deposition angle from 40° to 85°, which means that the sheet resistance can be effectively tuned by changing the deposition angle. Additionally, the sandwich structure of SiO2 buffer layer plus normal ATO films and oblique angle deposition ATO films can reduce the resistance, which can balance the optical and electrical anisotropy. It is suggested that oblique angle deposition ATO thin films can be used as transparent conductive thin films in solar cell, anti-foggy windows and multifunctional carrier in liquid crystal display.  相似文献

We demonstrate that thin films with micro/nanometre controllable morphology can be fabricated by the glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique which is a physical vapour deposition technique. In this technique, there are parameters which determine the morphology of the thin films: the incident angle, ratio of the deposition rate with respect to the substrate rotation rate, nature of the material being deposited, etc. We fabricate the morphology of column, pillar, helices, zigzag and study the parameters which determine morphology by given some examples of SEM.  相似文献

We report on zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films (d = 55-120 nm) prepared by thermal oxidation, at 623 K, of metallic zinc films, using a flash-heating method. Zinc films were deposited in vacuum by quasi-closed volume technique onto unheated glass substrates in two arrangements: horizontal and vertical positions relative to incident vapour. Depending on the preparation conditions, both quasi-amorphous and (0 0 2) textured polycrystalline ZnO films were obtained. The surface morphologies were characterized by atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. By in situ electrical measurements during two heating-cooling cycles up to a temperature of 673 K, an irreversible decrease of electrical conductivity of as flash-oxidized Zn films was revealed. The influence of deposition arrangement and oxidation conditions on the structural, morphological and electrical properties of the ZnO films is discussed.  相似文献

An enhancement of the glancing angle deposition (GLAD) technique called PhiSweep was used to grow slanted columns of silicon and titanium dioxide onto patterned substrates. The PhiSweep technique involves periodically rotating the substrate back and forth during the deposition process, which reduces column fanning caused by anisotropy in the shadowing conditions. The patterned substrates consisted of a tetragonal array of hillocks with 100, 200, and 300 nm periodicities and were fabricated using electron beam lithography. The PhiSweep method alters the tilt angle of the slanted columns compared with those grown using traditional GLAD. We present a derivation of the tilt angle of the slanted columns as a function of the parameters of the PhiSweep technique. The tilt angles of the silicon and titanium dioxide films were measured and agree with the predicted values. The films fabricated using the PhiSweep method are compared with similar films grown using traditional GLAD. The PhiSweep technique produced films with substantially less column fanning than those grown by traditional GLAD. This reduction in column fanning has extended the size range over which periodic GLAD structures, such as square spiral photonic crystals, can be grown.  相似文献

ZnS thin films were deposited on soda lime glass and aluminum substrates by close-spaced sublimation technique. The change in composition, structural and optical properties of the films was investigated as a function of the substrate temperature. The deposited films were stoichiometric and crystalline in nature having cubic structure oriented only along (1 1 1) plane. The energy band gap of the films deposited at the substrate temperature of 150, 250 and 350 °C was 3.52, 3.58 and 3.63 eV respectively. These films were then bombarded with 2-10 keV energy pulsed Ar+ beam and their electron yield was determined from impinging ion and emitted electron currents. The electron yield of ZnS films was much high as compared to the metals. The electron yield of ZnS films increased with energy of the incident ion and got saturated at about 8 keV. The most important result of this study was that the electron yield of ZnS films having same composition was different. Monte Carlo simulations performed to interpret these experimental findings showed that the dissimilar electron yields of ZnS films is due to the combined effect of energy band gap, surface barrier potential and density of the films.  相似文献

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films with different nanostructures such as nano-particles and separated vertical columns were grown by glancing angle deposition (GLAD) in an electron beam evaporation system. The photocatalytic properties of grown TiO2 films with different deposition angles and different annealing temperatures were evaluated by following decomposition of methyl orange under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. The results suggest that increased surface area due to the GLAD process could improve the photocatalytic properties of TiO2 films.  相似文献

Zinc selenide (ZnSe) thin films (d = 0.11-0.93 μm) were deposited onto glass substrates by the quasi-closed volume technique under vacuum. Their structural characteristics were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The experiments showed that the films are polycrystalline and have a zinc blende (cubic) structure. The film crystallites are preferentially oriented with the (1 1 1) planes parallel to the substrate surface. AFM images showed that the films have a grain like surface morphology. The average roughness, Ra = 3.3-6.4 nm, and the root mean square roughness, Rrms = 5.4-11.9 nm, were calculated and found to depend on the film thickness and post-deposition heat treatment. The spectral dependence of the absorption coefficient was determined from transmission spectra, in the range 300-1400 nm.The values of optical bandgap were calculated from the absorption spectra, Eg = 2.6-2.7 eV.The effect of the deposition conditions and post-deposition heat treatment on the structural and optical characteristics was investigated.  相似文献

The thermal evolution of deuterium from thin titanium films, prepared under UHV conditions and deuterated in situ at room temperature, has been studied by means of thermal desorption mass spectrometry (TDMS) and a combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The observed Ti film thickness dependent morphology was found to play a crucial role in the titanium deuteride (TiDy) film formation and its decomposition at elevated temperatures. TDMS heating induced decomposition of fine-grained thin Ti films, of 10-20 nm thickness, proceeds at low temperature (maximum peak temperature Tm about 500 K) and its kinetics is dominated by a low energy desorption (ED = 0.61 eV) of deuterium from surface and subsurface areas of the Ti film. The origin of this process is discussed as an intermediate decomposition state towards recombinative desorption of molecular deuterium. The TiDy bulk phase decomposition becomes dominant in the kinetics of deuterium evolution from thicker TiDy films. The dominant TDMS peak at approx. Tm = 670 K, attributed to this process, is characterized by ED = 1.49 eV.  相似文献

Nickel based nanostructures are grown by glancing angle deposition (GLAD) on flat and pre-patterned substrates. These fabricated porous thin films were subsequently coated by pulsed electroplating with gold. The morphology and conformity of the gold coating were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Controlled growth of closed gold layers on the nanostructures could be achieved, while the open-pore structure of the nanosculptured thin films was preserved. Such gold coated nanostructures are a candidate for optical sensing and catalysis applications. The demonstrated method can be applied for numerous material combinations, allowing to provide GLAD thin films with new surface properties.  相似文献

The growth of thin Fe films deposited at oblique incidence on an iron silicide template onto Si(1 1 1) single crystal has been investigated as a function of Fe thickness (0 < tFe ? 180 monolayers (MLs)) and incidence angle (0 ? θ ? 80°). The growth mode is determined in situ by means of scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). Stripes oriented perpendicularly to the incident atomic flux are formed for θ ? 30°. Self-correlation functions are used to extract characteristic lengths from STM images. The correlation lengths in the direction of the incident flux (ξx) and perpendicular to the atomic flux (ξy) grow with different powers versus time (ξxtσ and ξytρ, with σ = 0.34 ± 0.03 and ρ = 0.67 ± 0.03) following the exact solution of the (1 + 1) dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation. The root mean square roughness follows also a scaling law for tFe < 120 ML leading to a growth exponent β = 0.73 ± 0.02. Shadowing and steering effects are discussed on the basis of our STM data.  相似文献

In this combined film thickness, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction and optical properties study, we explore the effects of different stirring speeds on the growth and optical properties of ZnS film deposited by CBD method. From the disclosed changes of thickness of ZnS film, we conclude that film thickness is independent of the stirring speeds in the heterogeneous process (deposition time less than 40 min), but increases with the stirring speeds and/or deposition time increasing in the homogeneous process. Grazing incident X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) and the study of optical properties disclosed that the ZnS films grown with different stirring speeds show partially crystallized film and exhibit good transmittance (70-88% in the visible region), but the stirring speeds cannot give much effects on the structure and optical properties in the homogeneous process.  相似文献

Cluster assembled selenium oxide (SeO2) thin films, as a function of oxygen flow pressure (OFP) have been synthesized by a low energy cluster beam deposition (LECBD) technique. The OFP dependent surface morphology leading to well separated nanoclusters (size ranging from 50 to 200 nm) and fractal features are confirmed from transmission electron microscopic (TEM) measurements. A diffusion limited aggregation (DLA) mediated fractal growth with dimension as 1.71 ± 0.01 has been observed for high OFP (60 mbar). Structural analysis by glancing angle X-ray diffraction (GXRD) and selected area diffraction (SAD) studies identify the presence of tetragonal phase SeO2 in the deposit. Micro-Raman studies indicate the shifts in bending and stretching vibrational phonon modes in cluster assembled SeO2 as compared to their bulk counter part due to the phonon confinement effect.  相似文献

Tungsten trioxide and titanium dioxide thin films were synthesised by pulsed laser deposition. We used for irradiations of oxide targets an UV KrF* (λ = 248 nm, τFWHM ≅ 20 ns, ν = 2 Hz) excimer laser source, at 2 J/cm2 incident fluence value. The experiments were performed in low oxygen pressure. The (0 0 1) SiO2 substrates were heated during the thin film deposition process at temperature values within the 300-500 °C range. The structure and crystalline status of the obtained oxide thin films were investigated by high resolution transmission electron microscopy. Our analyses show that the films are composed by nanoparticles with average diameters from a few to a few tens of nm. Moreover, the films deposited at substrate temperatures higher than 300 °C are crystalline. The tungsten trioxide films consist of a mixture of triclinic and monoclinic phases, while the titanium dioxide films structure corresponds to the tetragonal anatase phase. The oxide films average transmittance in the visible-infrared spectral range is higher than 80%, which makes them suitable for sensor applications.  相似文献

Bioactive glass (BG), calcium hydroxyapatite (HA), and ZrO2 doped HA thin films were grown by pulsed laser deposition on Ti substrates. An UV KrF* (λ = 248 nm, τ ≥ 7 ns) excimer laser was used for the multi-pulse irradiation of the targets. The substrates were kept at room temperature or heated during the film deposition at values within the (400-550 °C) range. The depositions were performed in oxygen and water vapor atmospheres, at pressure values in the range (5-40 Pa). The HA coatings were heat post-treated for 6 h in a flux of hot water vapors at the same temperature as applied during deposition. The surface morphology, chemical composition, and crystalline quality of the obtained thin films were studied by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray diffractometry. The films were seeded for in vitro tests with Hek293 (human embryonic kidney) cells that revealed a good adherence on the deposited layers. Biocompatibility tests showed that cell growth was better on HA than on BG thin films.  相似文献

TiCN/TiNbCN multilayer coatings with enhanced mechanical properties   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Enhancement of mechanical properties by using a TiCN/TiNbCN multilayered system with different bilayer periods (Λ) and bilayer numbers (n) via magnetron sputtering technique was studied in this work. The coatings were characterized in terms of structural, chemical, morphological and mechanical properties by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nanoindentation. Results of the X-ray analysis showed reflections associated to FCC (1 1 1) crystal structure for TiCN/TiNbCN films. AFM analysis revealed a reduction of grain size and roughness when the bilayer number is increased and the bilayer period is decreased. Finally, enhancement of mechanical properties was determined via nanoindentation measurements. The best behavior was obtained when the bilayer period (Λ) was 15 nm (n = 200), yielding the highest hardness (42 GPa) and elastic modulus (408 GPa). The values for the hardness and elastic modulus are 1.6 and 1.3 times greater than the coating with n = 1, respectively. The enhancement effects in multilayer coatings could be attributed to different mechanisms for layer formation with nanometric thickness due to the Hall-Petch effect; because this effect, originally used to explain the increase in hardness with decreasing grain size in bulk polycrystalline metals, has also been used to explain hardness enhancements in multilayers taking into account the thickness reduction at individual single layers that make the multilayered system. The Hall-Petch model based on dislocation motion within layers and across layer interfaces, has been successfully applied to multilayers to explain this hardness enhancement.  相似文献

Biaxially textured YBa2Cu3O7−x (YBCO) films were grown on inclined-substrate-deposited (ISD) MgO-textured metal substrates by pulsed laser deposition. CeO2 was deposited as a buffer layer prior to YBCO growth. CeO2 layers of different thickness were prepared to evaluate the thickness dependence of the YBCO films. The biaxial alignment features of the films were examined by X-ray diffraction 2θ-scans, pole-figure, ?-scans and rocking curves of Ω angles. The significant influence of the CeO2 thickness on the structure and properties of the YBCO films were demonstrated and the optimal thickness was found to be about 10 nm. High values of Tc = 91 K and Jc = 5.5 × 105 A/cm2 were obtained on YBCO films with optimal CeO2 thickness at 77 K in zero field. The possible mechanisms responsible for the dependence of the structure and the properties of the YBCO films on the thickness of the CeO2 buffer layers are discussed.  相似文献

Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were deposited on the gallium nitride (GaN) and sapphire (Al2O3) substrates by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) without using any metal catalyst. The experiment was carried out at three different laser wavelengths of Nd:YAG laser (λ = 1064 nm, λ = 532 nm) and KrF excimer laser (λ = 248 nm). The ZnO films grown at λ = 532 nm revealed the presence of ZnO nanorods and microrods. The diameter of the rods varies from 250 nm to 2 μm and the length varies between 9 and 22 μm. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of the rods revealed the absence of frozen balls at the tip of the ZnO rods. The growth of ZnO rods has been explained by vapor-solid (V-S) mechanism. The origin of growth of ZnO rods has been attributed to the ejection of micrometric and sub-micrometric sized particulates from the ZnO target. The ZnO films grown at λ = 1064 nm and λ = 248 nm do not show the rod like morphology. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) has not shown the presence of any impurity except zinc and oxygen.  相似文献

The paper presents the fabrication and characterization of La0.65Sr0.35MnO3−δ (LSMO) polycrystalline thin films deposited directly on Si (1 0 0) substrates using pulsed laser deposition technique. Various deposition parameters like substrate temperature and oxygen partial pressure have been varied systematically to obtain stoichiometric, crack-free films with smooth surface morphology having nearly monodisperse grain size distribution. The substrate temperature variation from 600 to 800 °C had profound effects on the microstructure and topography of the deposited film, with optimum result being obtained at 700 °C. The variation of partial pressure of oxygen controls the deposition kinetics as well as the stoichiometry of the film in terms of oxygen vacancy, which influences the magnetic and electrical transport properties of the manganate films. The microstructure and crystallinity of the deposited films have been studied using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. A correlation between the oxygen stoichiometry and micro-structural and transport properties of the deposited films has been obtained.  相似文献
