We study the homology of gauge groups associated with principal SU(n) bundles over the four-sphere. After computing the mod p homology of based gauge groups of SU(n) by combined use of the Serre spectral sequence and the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence, we compute the modp homology of gauge groups of SU(n) using the Serre spectral sequence for the evaluation fibration.  相似文献

We prove a collapse theorem for the Eilenberg–Moore spectral sequence and as an application we show that under certain conditions the cohomology of a homogeneous space of a connected finite loop space with a maximal rank torsion free subgroup is concentrated in even degrees and torsionfree, generalizing classical theorems for compact Lie groups of Borel and Bott.  相似文献

In this paper we shall deal with a weak version of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem for G-isovariant maps, which we call the weak isovariant Borsuk-Ulam theorem. One of the results is that the weak isovariant Borsuk-Ulam theorem in linear G-spheres holds for an arbitrary compact Lie group G. On the contrary the weak isovariant Borsuk-Ulam theorem in semilinear G-(homology) spheres holds if and only if G is solvable. Received: 2 April 2002  相似文献

Let G be an exceptional Lie group G2, F4, E6, E7 or E8, and also set p is the corresponding prime 7, 13, 13, 19 or 31 respectively. If we localize spaces at p, G can be decomposed into a product of spheres. Using this decomposition, we take some elements in the homotopy groups of p-localized G, and we offer some non-zero 3-fold Samelson products of them. This implies that the nilpotency class of the localized self-homotopy group of G is greater than or equal to 3.The key lemma for these results is about a calculation on the cohomology operator P1 in the cohomology of BG, where G and p are as above. During this calculation, we use some original ideas, which are also used in Kishimoto and Kaji (in press) [7] recently.  相似文献

We construct a homotopy theoretic setup for homology decompositions of classifying spaces of p-compact groups. This setup is then used to obtain a subgroup decomposition for p-compact groups which generalizes the subgroup decomposition with respect to p-stubborn subgroups for a compact Lie group constructed by Jackowski, McClure and Oliver.  相似文献

H.S.M. Coxeter showed that a group Γ is a finite reflection group of an Euclidean space if and only if Γ is a finite Coxeter group. In this paper, we define reflections of geodesic spaces in general, and we prove that Γ is a cocompact discrete reflection group of some geodesic space if and only if Γ is a Coxeter group.  相似文献

Abstract. The operad studied in conformal field theory and introduced ten years ago by G. Segal [S] is built out of moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces. We show here that this operad which at first sight is a double loop space operad is indeed an infinite loop space operad. This leads to a new proof of the fact that the classifying space of the stable mapping class group , is an infinite loop space after plus construction [T2]. This new approach has various advantages. In particular, the infinite loop space structure is more explicid. Received: 21 September 1998 / Revised: 30 August 1999 / Published online: 8 May 2000  相似文献

In this paper we give a realization of some symmetric space G/K as a closed submanifold P of G. We also give several equivalent representations of the submanifold P. Some properties of the set gKP are also discussed, where gK is a coset space in G.  相似文献

In this paper we generalize a result in [J. An, Z. Wang, On the realization of Riemannian symmetric spaces in Lie groups, Topology Appl. 153 (7) (2005) 1008-1015, showing that an arbitrary Riemannian symmetric space can be realized as a closed submanifold of a covering group of the Lie group defining the symmetric space. Some properties of the subgroups of fixed points of involutions are also proved.  相似文献

Let X be a homotopy associative mod p H-space for p an odd prime. The homology H*(X;Fp) is an associative ring, but not necessarily commutative. We study conditions when for elements of H*(X;Fp). Under certain conditions imply for l=p−2 or p−1. These methods can be used to prove results about homology commutators that were previously obtained using the adjoint action [H. Hamanaka, S. Hara, A. Kono, Adjoint action of Lie groups on the loop spaces and cohomology of exceptional Lie groups, Transform. Group Theory (1996) 44-50, Korea Adv. Inst. Sci. Tech.; A. Kono, K. Kozima, The adjoint action of a Lie group on the space of loops, J. Math. Soc. Japan 45 (3) (1993) 495-509; A. Kono, J. Lin, O. Nishimura, Characterization of the mod 3 cohomology of E7, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 131 (10) (2003) 3289-3295]. We also generalize results of Kane [R. Kane, Torsion in homotopy associative H-spaces, Illinois J. Math. 20 (1976) 476-485] to nonfinite mod p homotopy associative H-spaces.  相似文献

All abstract reflection groups act geometrically on non-positively curved geodesic spaces. Their natural space at infinity, consisting of (bifurcating) infinite geodesic rays emanating from a fixed base point, is called a boundary of the group. We will present a condition on right-angled Coxeter groups under which they have topologically homogeneous boundaries. The condition is that they have a nerve which is a connected closed orientable PL manifold. In the event that the group is generated by the reflections of one of Davis’ exotic open contractible n-manifolds (n?4), the group will have a boundary which is a homogeneous cohomology manifold. This group boundary can then be used to equivariantly Z-compactify the Davis manifold. If the compactified manifold is doubled along the group boundary, one obtains a sphere if n?5. The system of reflections extends naturally to this sphere and can be augmented by a reflection whose fixed point set is the group boundary. It will be shown that the fixed point set of each extended original reflection on the thus formed sphere is a tame codimension-one sphere.  相似文献

Let α(d) denote the number of ones in the binary expansion of d. For 1?k?α(d) we prove that the 2(d+α(d)−k)+1-dimensional, 2k-torsion lens space does not immerse in a Euclidian space of dimension 4d−2α(d) provided certain technical condition holds. The extra hypothesis is easily eliminated in the case k=1 recovering Davis’ strong non-immersion theorem for real projective spaces. For k>1 this is a deeper problem (solved only in part) that requires a close analysis of the interaction between the Brown-Peterson 2-series and its 2k analogue. The methods are based on a partial generalization of the Brown-Peterson version for the Conner-Floyd conjecture used in this context to detect obstructions for the existence of Euclidian immersions.  相似文献

Let P be a principal S3-bundle over a sphere Sn, with n?4. Let GP be the gauge group of P. The homotopy type of GP when n=4 was studied by A. Kono in [A. Kono, A note on the homotopy type of certain gauge groups, Proc. Roy. Soc. Edinburgh Sect. A 117 (1991) 295-297]. In this paper we extend his result and we study the homotopy type of the gauge group of these bundles for all n?25.  相似文献
