Hyperbranched fluoropolymers (HBFPs), based on benzyl ether linkages and having a large number of pentafluorophenyl chain ends, were crosslinked by a reaction with diamino-terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) or diamino-terminated poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) to form hyperbranched–linear copolymer networks of different compositions, structures, and properties. The crosslinking reactions involved the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of the pentafluorophenyl para-fluorines of HBFP by the amine functionalities of the respective telechelic linear segments. The contact angles, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile measurements, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were used to characterize the resulting network film samples. The surface wettability of the crosslinked materials was affected by the nature and amount of the linear polymer crosslinking agent employed. Amphiphilic polymer networks were formed by the incorporation of diamino-terminated PEG as a crosslinker, whereas diamino-terminated PDMS produced polymer networks of a hydrophobic character. The mechanical properties improved upon crosslinking, as measured by tensile testing. The mechanical integrity of the films was also found to improve upon crosslinking, as measured by AFM machining protocols. The AFM images revealed topographical morphologies that appeared to be the result of phase segregation of HBFP from PEG or PDMS; the dimensions of the phase-segregated domains were dependent on the stoichiometry of HBFP to the linear polymer and the thickness of the coating. As the content of PEG increased, fouling by human fibrinogen, used as a model protein, decreased. Further studies are in progress to determine the effects of the surface composition, morphology, and topography on the biofouling characteristics. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of shape‐memory epoxy thermosets were synthesized by crosslinking diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A with mixtures of commercially available hyperbranched poly(ethyleneimine) and polyetheramine. Thermal, mechanical and shape‐memory properties were studied and the effect on them of the content and structure of the hyperbranched polymer was discussed. Measurements showed that the glass transition temperature can be tailored from 60 °C to 117 °C depending on the hyperbranched polymer content, and all formulations showed an appropriate glassy/rubbery storage modulus ratio. Shape‐memory programming was carried out at TgE′ given the excellent mechanical properties of the materials, with maximum stress and failure strain up to 15 MPa and 60%, respectively. The resulting shape‐memory behavior was excellent, with maximum shape recovery and shape fixity of 98% as well as a fast shape‐recovery rate of 22%/min. The results show that hyperbranched poly(ethyleneimine) as a crosslinking agent can be used to enhance mechanical and shape‐memory properties with different effects depending on the crosslinking density. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polymer coatings with features of differing hydrophilicity, mobility, and topography, distributed across a substrate in microscopic and nanoscopic patches were designed as complex materials equipped with sufficient variability in composition, structure, and dynamics to inhibit interactions associated with biomacromolecular fouling. These complex polymer coatings were prepared by the in situ phase separation and crosslinking of mixtures of hyperbranched fluoropolymer (HBFP) and diamino‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), for which the degree of crosslinking, compositions, topographies, and morphologies were varied by alteration of the PEG/HBFP stoichiometries (14, 29, 45, and 55 wt % PEG). This article examines the physicochemical details of HBFP–PEG network coatings prepared on glass substrates, functionalized by 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane, as characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact‐angle measurements, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis. Upon incubation in water or artificial seawater, the surfaces underwent reconstruction, which was believed to be driven by the swelling of the PEG domains and the energetic favorability offered by the segregation of PEG to the solid–water interface. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Amphiphilic copolymer networks were prepared from hyperbranched fluoropolymer (HBFP*, Mn = 38 kDa, by atom transfer radical‐self condensing vinyl copolymerization) and linear diamine‐terminated poly(ethylene glycol) (DA‐PEG, Mn = 1,630 Da). Model studies found that the crosslinking mechanism occurred at ambient temperature as a result of reaction between DA‐PEG and the benzylic chlorides of HBFP*. These networks underwent covalent attachment to glass microscope slides derivatized with 3‐aminopropyltriethoxysilane, whereupon gel percent studies at various weight percentages of DA‐PEG to HBFP* found that curing could be achieved at lower temperatures and shortened time periods relative to the previously reported parent HBFP–PEG system. Thermogravimetric analysis revealed that the crosslinked materials gave no evident mass loss up to 250 °C. Differential scanning calorimetry of the complex amphiphilic networks showed a suppressed glass transition temperature, relative to that observed for neat HBFP*, and multiple melting DA‐PEG endotherm(s) near 30 °C. The films possessed a topographically‐complex surface with features that increased in tandem with an increase in the ratio of DA‐PEG to HBFP*, as detected by atomic force microscopy and quantified by increased rms roughness values. Internal reflection infrared imaging revealed a heterogeneous surface composition and confirmed that the domain sizes increased as the weight percent of DA‐PEG increased. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It remains challenging to satisfy the combined performances for hydrogels with excellent mechanical behavior, high deformability, and super recoverability under harsh environmental conditions. In this study, we first established a strong polymer network via the crosslinking of polymer chains on the surfaces of sub‐5‐nm calcium hydroxide nanospherulites in ethylene glycol solvent. The organic gel expressed excellent mechanical properties such as a recoverable compressive engineering stress of 249 MPa and an elongation stress of 402 KPa, which was attributed to the uniform nanosized crosslinking structure as characterized by SEM. Moreover, the nonvolatile solvent remained in the gel, meaning that the sample can resist a wide temperature range of ?56 to 100 °C without losing the elastic properties. This novel organic gel could provide promising routes to develop the ideal elastic carriers for wearable devices, smart skin sensors, and damping materials. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. The thermal and mechanical properties of two densely crosslinked polycarbosiloxane systems were investigated in relation to the molecular structure. The networks were prepared from functional branched prepolymers and crosslinked via a hydrosilylation curing reaction. The prepolymers having only vinyl functionalities (poly[phenylmethylvinyl]siloxanes) were crosslinked by using crosslinking agents with reactive silicon–hydrogen groups. In prepolymers having both silicon–vinyl and silicon–hydrogen groups (poly[phenylmethylvinylhydro)]siloxanes crosslinking took place intermolecularly. The thermal and mechanical properties of the polymer networks were found to be dependent on the phenyl  Si O3/2 (branches) content in the prepolymer, the number of elastically effective crosslinks, the elastically effective network chain density and molecular weight between crosslinks, length of the chain segments introduced by the hydrosilylation crosslinking reaction, and the number of dangling ends. As a consequence of the dense crosslinking, the mechanical properties were also strongly dependent on the glass transition temperature. A tough–brittle transition was observed around the glass transition temperature of the polymer networks. The properties of the poly(phenylmethylvinylhydro)siloxane networks were found to be superior to those of the poly(phenylmethylvinyl)siloxane networks. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Hyperbranched poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized by a combination of cationic ring‐opening polymerization and the oxidation of thiol to disulfide groups. A three‐arm star poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PEtOx) was first synthesized using 1,3,5‐tris(bromomethyl) benzene as an initiator. The star PEtOx was end‐capped with potassium ethyl xanthate. Similarly, a linear PEtOx was synthesized and end‐capped with potassium ethyl xanthate using benzyl bromide as an initiator. Hyperbranched PEtOx was then obtained by in situ cleaving and subsequent oxidation of the star PEtOx and linear PEtOx mixture with n‐butylamine as both a cleaving agent and a base in tetrahydrofuran. The linear PEtOx was used to prevent the formation of gel. The hyperbranched PEtOx can be cleaved with dithiothreitol to trithiol and monothiol polymer. The hyperbranched PEtOx shows no remaining thiols using Ellman's assay. The resulting hyperbranched PEtOx was hydrolyzed to a novel hyperbranched polyethyleneimine with degradable disulfide linkages. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Three series of semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks, based on crosslinked poly(N‐isopropyl acrylamide) (PNIPA) and 1 wt % nonionic or ionic (cationic and anionic) linear polyacrylamide (PAAm), were synthesized to improve the mechanical properties of PNIPA gels. The effect of the incorporation of linear polymers into responsive networks on the temperature‐induced transition, swelling behavior, and mechanical properties was studied. Polymer networks with four different crosslinking densities were prepared with various molar ratios (25:1 to 100:1) of the monomer (N‐isopropyl acrylamide) to the crosslinker (methylenebisacrylamide). The hydrogels were characterized by the determination of the equilibrium degree of swelling at 25 °C, the compression modulus, and the effective crosslinking density, as well as the ultimate hydrogel properties, such as the tensile strength and elongation at break. The introduction of cationic and anionic linear hydrophilic PAAm into PNIPA networks increased the rate of swelling, whereas the presence of nonionic PAAm diminished it. Transition temperatures were significantly affected by both the crosslinking density and the presence of linear PAAm in the hydrogel networks. Although anionic PAAm had the greatest influence on increasing the transition temperature, the presence of nonionic PAAm caused the highest dimensional change. Semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks reinforced with cationic and nonionic PAAm exhibited higher tensile strengths and elongations at break than PNIPA hydrogels, whereas the presence of anionic PAAm caused a reduction in the mechanical properties. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Physical and gas transport properties of novel hyperbranched polyimide–silica hybrid membranes were investigated and compared with those of linear‐type polyimide–silica hybrid membranes with similar chemical structures. Hyperbranched polyamic acid, as a precursor, was prepared by polycondensation of a triamine, 1,3,5‐tris(4‐aminophenoxy)benzene (TAPOB), and a dianhydride, 4,4′‐(hexafluoroisopropylidene)diphthalic anhydride (6FDA). 6FDA‐TAPOB hyperbranched polyimide–silica hybrids were prepared using the polyamic acid, water, and tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) by sol–gel reaction. 5% weight‐loss temperature of the 6FDA‐TAPOB hyperbranched polyimide–silica hybrids determined by TG‐DTA measurement considerably increased with increasing silica content, indicating effective crosslinking at polymer–silica interface. CO2, O2, N2, and CH4 permeability coefficients of the 6FDA‐based polyimide–silica hybrids increased with increasing silica content. In addition, CO2/CH4 selectivity of the 6FDA‐TAPOB–silica hybrids remarkably increased with increasing silica content. From 129Xe NMR analysis, characteristic distribution and interconnectivity of cavities created around polymer–silica interface were suggested in the 6FDA‐TAPOB–silica hybrids. It was indicated that size‐selective separation ability is effectively brought by the incorporation of silica for the 6FDA‐TAPOB hyperbranched polyimide–silica hybrid membranes. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Curing of polyurethane prepolymer with three hyperbranched polyol was studied using FTIR spectroscopy. The disappearance of the strong isocyanate absorption peak was followed with time and temperature to determine the reaction kinetics. It was shown that all the hyperbranched polyols followed the second order kinetic equation and the reaction rate enhanced with increase in the number of the functional groups of the hyperbranched polyol. Activation energy, activation enthalpy, and activation entropy were also measured. The swelling character of the polyurethanes was investigated with the help of gel fraction, degree of crosslinking, and average molecular weight between crosslinks. Atomic force microscopy indicated phase separated morphology of the cured polyurethanes. The thermal, mechanical, and thermomechanical properties were enhanced when the number of the functional groups in the hyperbranched polyols was increased. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Using small molecules in polymer matrices is common in applications such as (i) plasticizing polymers to modify the glass transition and mechanical properties and (ii) dispersion of photoactive or electroactive small molecules in polymer matrices in organic‐electronic devices Aggregation of these small molecules and phase separation leading to crystallization often cannot be morphologically controlled. If these are designed with self‐assembling codes such as hydrogen bonding or aromatic interactions, their phase separation behavior would be distinctly different. This review summarizes the studies on morphologies in such situations, such as (i) sub‐surface assembly in polymer matrices, (ii) controlled polymerization‐induced phase separation to create polymer blends, (iii) using the polymer to direct the assembly of small molecules in liquid crystalline devices, (iv) functionalizing a polymer with self‐assembling small molecules to cause organo‐gelation which the polymer itself would not by itself, and (v) using such systems as templates to create porous polymer structures. Organic–inorganic hybrids using polymers as templates for nanostructures and imprinted porous membranes is an emerging area. Since self‐assembly is one of the dominating area of research with respect to both small molecules, polymers as well as the combination of the two, this review summarizes the studies on the aforementioned topics. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new method for the synthesis of hyperbranched polymers involving the use of ABx macromonomers containing linear units have been investigated. Two types of novel hyperbranched polyurethanes have been synthesized by a one‐pot approach. The structures of monomers and polymers were characterized by elemental analysis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, and thermogravimetric analysis. The hyperbranched polymers have been proven to be extremely soluble in a wide range of solvents. Polymer electrolytes were prepared with hyperbranched polymer, linear polymer as the host, and lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) as the ion source. Analysis of the isotherm conductivity dependence of the ion concentration indicated that these hyperbranched polymers could function as a “solvent” for the lithium salt. The conductivity increased with the increasing concentration of hyperbranched polymers in the host polymer. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 40: 344–350, 2002  相似文献

The para‐fluoro‐thiol “click” reaction (PFTCR) was utilized to prepare linear and hyperbranched fluorinated poly (aryl ether‐thioether). For this purpose, 1,2‐bis(perfluorophenoxy)ethane was prepared and reacted with 1,6‐hexandithiol and trimethylolpropane tris(3‐mercaptopropionate), respectively. While hyperbranched polymers were prepared using 0.5 M concentrations of starting materials at room temperature, the linear polymer syntheses were performed at different reaction temperatures and concentrations. The resulting polymers were mainly characterized by NMR measurements and a very distinct fluorine signals regarding meta‐ and ortho‐ positions in the 19F NMR were found for both polymer topologies. In addition to NMR analyses, both linear and hyperbranched polymers were further characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Semicrystalline network polymers were obtained by the Diels–Alder (DA) reaction of furyl‐telechelic poly(ε‐caprolactone) and tris(2‐maleimide ethyl)amine. Controlling the rates of crystallization and crosslinking reaction gave materials with various properties. Curing at a temperature much below Tm of poly(ε‐caprolactone), at which crystallization proceeded first followed by DA reaction, gave a hard and stiff material, whereas curing above Tm gave a soft and stretchable one. When crystallization and crosslinking were promoted simultaneously, tough and ductile materials were obtained. Structural analysis of the network polymers showed that the variation in the properties was derived from the difference in the crystallinity, crystallite size, and network structure. Therefore, materials with various mechanical properties, from soft to hard, could be obtained by simple thermal treatment. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hyperbranched polyesters are among the most common hyperbranched polymers. One of the interesting features of hyperbranched polyesters is that they contain unreacted hydroxyl and carboxylic acid groups at the linear and terminal structural units, which can be postmodified to adjust thermal, solubility, or mechanical properties, or to prepare core–shell type architectures. This article reports on the synthesis of a novel class of hyperbranched polyesters via an A2 + B3 type Baylis–Hillman polymerization of 2,6‐pyridinedicarboxaldehyde and trimethylolpropane triacrylate. Baylis–Hillman polymerization generates highly functional polyesters that contain not only unreacted aldehyde and/or acrylate groups at the linear and terminal structural units but also chemically orthogonal vinyl and hydroxyl groups along the polymer backbone. Using 3‐hydroxyquinuclidine as the catalyst, hyperbranched polymers with number‐average molecular weights up to 7500 g/mol and degrees of branching up to 0.81 were obtained. To demonstrate the versatility of these hyperbranched polyesters to act as platforms for further derivatization, the orthogonal postpolymerization modification of the hydroxyl, vinyl, and pyridine functional moieties with phenyl isocyanate, methyl‐3‐mercaptopropionate, and methyl iodide is presented. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports a chain-growth coupling polymerization of AB difunctional monomer via copper-catalyzed azide–alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction for synthesis of star polymers. Unlike our previously reported CuAAC polymerization of AB n (n ≥ 2) monomers that spontaneously demonstrated a chain-growth mechanism in synthesis of hyperbranched polymer, the homopolymerization of AB monomer showed a common but less desired step-growth mechanism as the triazole groups aligned in a linear chain could not effectively confine the Cu catalyst in the polymer species. In contrast, the use of polytriazole-based core molecules that contained multiple azido groups successfully switched the polymerization of AB monomers into chain-growth mechanism and produced 3-arm star polymers and multi-arm hyperstar polymers with linear increase of polymer molecular weight with conversion and narrow molecular weight distribution, for example, Mw/Mn ~ 1.05. When acid-degradable hyperbranched polymeric core was used, the obtained hyperstar polymers could be easily degraded under acidic environment, producing linear degraded arms with defined polydispersity. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the lower critical solution temperature phase separation of poly(vinyl methyl ether) aqueous solutions, the process corresponding to the weakening of the hydrogen bond interaction with increasing temperature is dominant and occurs over the entire concentration region of solutions and over a broad temperature range from 30 to 41°C, giving rise to the energetic enthalpic effect during phase separation, while the conformational change, that is, collapse of the swollen polymer coils, occurs only in the swelling polymer solution when the water concentration is above 38.3 wt %, giving rise to the entropic effect during phase separation. In addition, the entropic process corresponding to the collapse of the polymer coils occurs in a much narrow theta temperature range from 35.5 to 37°C. If the solution is held at a constant temperature for a sufficiently long time, 90% collapse of the polymer coils occurs in only the 0.5 °C temperature region between 35.5 and 36°C. Accordingly, in the enthalpic process, the most dramatic blueshift of the νC‐O bond peak occurs in the temperature range between 35 and 41°C, while this blueshift is only approximately 2 cm?1 in the temperature range from 30 to 35°C, prior to the collapse of the polymer coils due to the entropic effect. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The crosslinking performance of the unsaturated hyperbranched polyester poly(allyloxy maleic acid‐co‐maleic anhydride) (MAHP) was investigated with copolymerizations of three different monomers: styrene, vinyl acetate, and methyl methacrylate. Both styrene and vinyl acetate afforded interpenetrating‐polymer‐network copolymer gels. The gels exhibited crosslink density gradients through the polymer matrices on a macroscopic level, and density maximums were concentrated around the MAHP moieties. The heterogeneity of the gels is briefly discussed in terms of a modified two‐phase model, where one phase consists of an elastic part of low crosslinking density and the other phase consists of an inelastic dendritic part with a highly condensed bond density. Unlike the two‐phase model developed by Choquet and Rietsch, the modified two‐phase model takes into account that both phases swell in good solvents. Unlike copolymerizations employing styrene or vinyl acetate, the copolymerization of MAHP with methyl methacrylate afforded noncrosslinked starbranched copolymers that consisted of a MAHP core from which long poly(methyl methacrylate) branches were protruding. The different behaviors of the copolymerizations of the three monomers used in this study can rationally be explained by their different reactivity ratios with maleic end groups of MAHP. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A new hyperbranched‐linear‐hyperbranched polymer was prepared in a one pot process by reaction of 4,4‐bis(4‐hydroxyphenyl)valeric acid and poly(ethylene glycol) (HPH). After characterization by 1H and 13C NMR, SEC, DSC, and TGA, this polymer was used, in proportions of 5, 10, and 15 phr, as a chemical modifier in the UV and thermal cationic curing of 3,4‐epoxycyclohexylmethyl‐3′,4′‐epoxycyclohexyl carboxylate epoxy resin. The curing process was studied by calorimetry, demonstrating the accelerating effect of the hydroxyl groups present in HPH's structure. The morphology of the resulting thermosets depended on the curing system used, as demonstrated by FE‐SEM microscopy, but in both cases phase separation occurred. Thermosets obtained by thermal curing presented lower thermal stability than UV‐cured materials. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2012  相似文献

A chitosan film with acetylation degree close to 2% was crosslinked with glutaraldehyde. The consequences of this chemical modification were studied on the polymer gas and water transport properties. The crystalline domains were not affected by the crosslinking reaction and the modification of the amorphous phase did not induce variation of the gas permeability at anhydrous state. A crosslinking of 5 h, leading to a theoretical amine conversion of 60% in the amorphous phase induced only small changes of the polymer water sorption capacity at relative pressures less than 0.5. The main modification of the transport properties induced by this treatment occurred at a relative pressure equal to one with a significant reduction of the water sorption and water permeation and with the impossibility to measure the gas permeability coefficient in these conditions due to the brittleness of the membrane. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
