The mechanical properties and fire resistance of vinyl ester resin (VER) composites containing cage‐shaped octaphenyl silsesquioxane (OPS), incompletely cage‐shaped phenyl silsesquioxane (PhT7POSS), and ladder‐shaped phenyl silsesquioxane (PPSQ) were investigated. The POSS structure and dispersion have a great influence on the mechanical properties, thermal stability, and decomposition process of VER composites. The bending strength at break and modulus of the VER‐POSS composites were enhanced obviously, especially for VER‐PPSQ composite and VER‐OPS composite, respectively. In addition, PhT7POSS‐based VER composites revealed the lower values of the peak heat release rate, total heat release, and total smoke release in cone calorimetry tests due to the formation of dense carbon/silica protective layers that acted as a barrier to heat and mass transfer. Moreover, the flame‐retardant mechanisms of condensed phase and gas phase were also investigated in detail. These results illustrate VERs modified by OPS, PhT7POSS, and PPSQ are providing an applicable method to fabricate the composites with excellent flame‐retardant and mechanical properties.  相似文献

The natural basalt fiber (BF) was incorporated into EVA composites with environmental‐friendly nickel alginate‐brucite based flame retardant (NiFR), to further improve the flame‐retardant effect and mechanical properties. The flame retardancy of EVA composites were characterized by LOI, UL 94, and cone test. With 55 wt% loading, 3BF/52NiFR had the highest LOI value of 31.9 vol.% in all fiber reinforced composites and pass UL 94V‐0 ratting. And comparing to 55B composite with untreated brucite, 3BF/52NiFR decreased peak of heat release rate by 47.8%, total heat release by 21.9%, and total smoke production by 35.5% and kept more residue 54.0% during cone test. Moreover, 3BF/52NiFR also enhanced the mechanical properties of composites by better compatibility with EVA matrix. BF/NiFR exert synergistic flame‐retardant effect major in promoting charring effect in condensed phase during combustion. The fire‐resisted and rigid BF into the char layer reinforced the intensity of protective barrier which prolonged the residence time of pyrolysis carbonaceous groups degraded from EVA matrix, resulting in less heat and smoke release.  相似文献

To develop environmental‐friendly and flame‐retarded polymer composites, bio‐based polylactic acid (PLA) was loaded with thermally stable polyhedral octaphenyl silsesquioxane (OPS). Pure PLA and PLA/OPS composites with the OPS of 1, 3, 5, and 10 wt% were prepared by extrusion and injection molding, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), polarized optical microscope (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to analyze the dispersion of the OPS in the PLA matrix and the effects of OPS on the crystallization and thermal stability properties of PLA/OPS composites, respectively. Limited oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter (CONE) measurements were used to study flame retardancy of PLA and PLA/OPS composites. In order to study the flame‐retardant mechanism, the char residues were investigated by SEM, Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). TGA‐FTIR was used to analyze the gaseous products of their thermal decomposition. The results show that the OPS particles were submicron in the PLA and could increase the crystallization rate of PLA and form small‐sized secondary α‐form crystalline compared with the pure PLA spherulite. The PLA and OPS decomposed individually in the PLA/OPS composites by TGA. According to the LOI tests, the PLA with the OPS loading exhibited very small reduction of LOI. However, the CONE tests indicated that the OPS could improve the flame retardancy of the PLA by means of low peak heat release rate and average heat release rate. It was obtained that the degree and type of the PLA crystalline for the pure PLA and PLA/OPS affect their flame retardancy. In the max thermal decomposition stage of PLA and PLA/OPS, their gaseous products were similar; at high temperatures, the PLA/OPS produced simple and clear gaseous products of PLA with solid SiO2 in the gas phase.  相似文献

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are emerging as a new and green high‐efficient flame retardant. But LDHs aggregate seriously because of their hydrophilicity, which affect deeply the mechanical and flame retardant properties of their composites. For the first time in this paper, microencapsulated LDHs (MCLDHs) with melamine‐formaldehyde (MF) resin were prepared by microencapsulation technology to enhance their compatibility and dispersion within epoxy resin (EP). The mechanical and flame retardant performances of EP/MCLDH composite were studied by comparing with EP/LDH composite. Results showed that the water contact angle of MCLDHs increased from 8.9° to 122.1°, which indicated good compatibility. The particle size of MCLDHs decreased sharply, and more than one‐third were up to submicron scale, which can be conducive to dispersion. Moreover, the tensile strength and elongation at break of EP/MCLDHs with different flame retardant contents were higher than those of EP/LDHs. And the addition of MCLDHs increased the glass transition temperature (Tg) of EP/MCLDHs, which meant a strong interfacial interaction. Besides, compared with EP/LDHs, the limiting oxygen index values of EP/MCLDHs were higher, and its peak of heat release rate and total heat release decreased by 16.3% and 5.5% respectively. EP/MCLDHs achieved from V‐1 to V‐0 rate with the increasing content of MCLDHs from 20% to 30%, while LDHs/EP never passed tests. In the process of heating, H2O, CO2, and NH3 released from MCLDHs formed gaseous phase, and the remaining dense char layers and oxides produced condensed phase, which played an important role in inhibiting combustion.  相似文献

Three different polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS), trisilanolphenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (T‐POSS), octaaminophenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (OAPS), and octaphenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (OPS) were incorporated into phenolic resin (PR), respectively; PR/POSS composites were successfully prepared, and the properties of PR/POSS composites were studied. The limiting oxygen index (LOI), cone calorimeter, and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) were used for the estimation of flame retardancy and thermal stability. Oxyacetylene flame test and flexural strength test were used to study the ablative and mechanical properties of the PR/POSS composites. The results indicated that T‐POSS was more effective in improving the flame retardancy of PR than OAPS or OPS. Meanwhile, compared with pure PR, the second line ablation rates of PR/4% T‐POSS, PR/4% OAPS, and PR/4% OPS were significantly reduced by 53.3%, 61.9%, and 40.0%, respectively. In addition, the thermal stability and flexural strength of PR/4% T‐POSS were significantly higher than that of all other PR composites.  相似文献

To explore the component synergistic effect of boron/phosphorus compounds in epoxy resin (EP), 3 typical boron compounds, zinc borate (ZB), boron phosphate (BPO4), and boron oxide (B2O3), blended with phosphaphenanthrene compound TAD were incorporated into EP, respectively. All 3 boron/phosphorus compound systems inhibited heat release and increased residue yields and exerted smoke suppression effect. Among 3 boron/phosphorus compound systems, B2O3/TAD system brought best flame‐retardant effect to epoxy thermosets in improving the UL94 classification of EP composites and also reducing heat release most efficiently during combustion. B2O3 can interact with epoxy matrix and enhance the charring quantity and quality, resulting in obvious condensed‐phase flame‐retardant effect. The combination of condensed‐phase flame‐retardant effect from B2O3 and the gaseous‐phase flame‐retardant effect from TAD effectively optimized the action distribution between gaseous and condensed phases. Therefore, B2O3/TAD system generated component synergistic flame‐retardant effect in epoxy thermosets.  相似文献

Herein, a bridged 9,10‐dihydro‐9‐oxa‐10‐phosphaphenanthrene‐10‐oxide (DOPO) derivative (PN‐DOPO) in combination with organ‐montmorillonite (OMMT) was used to improve the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of glass‐fiber‐reinforced polyamide 6 T (GFPA6T). The flame retardancy and thermal stabilities of the cured GFPA6T composites were investigated using limiting oxygen index, vertical burning (UL‐94) test, cone calorimeter test, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The morphological analysis and chemical composition of the char residues after cone calorimeter tests were characterized via scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometry. The results indicate that 2 wt% OMMT combined with 13 wt% PN‐DOPO in GFPA6T achieved a V‐0 rating in UL‐94 test. The peak heat release rate and total smoke release remarkably decreased with the incorporation of OMMT as compared to those of GFPA6T/15 wt% PN‐DOPO. The TGA results show that the thermal stability and residual mass of the samples effectively increased with the increase in OMMT content. The morphological analysis and composition structure of the residues demonstrate that a small amount of OMMT could help form a more thermally stable and compact char layer during combustion. Also, with the incorporation of OMMT, the layers consisted of more carbon‐silicon and aluminum phosphate char in the condensed phase. Furthermore, GFPA6T/PN‐DOPO/OMMT composites exhibited excellent mechanical properties in terms of flexural modulus, flexural strength, and impact strength than the GFPA6T/PN‐DOPO system. The combination of PN‐DOPO and OMMT has improved the flame retardancy and smoke suppression of GFPA6T without compromising the mechanical properties.  相似文献

A novel curing and flame‐retardant agent (PEPA‐TMAC) was successfully synthesized. The chemical structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Use of PEPA‐TMAC as part of the curing agent in combination with another anhydride for a commercial epoxy resin (EP) was studied. Results of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) indicated that PEPA‐TMAC was an effective curing agent for EP. The dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) results showed that the glass transition temperature (Tg) and cross‐linking density (Ve) of EP composites exhibited an increase trend with the addition of PEPA‐TMAC. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) value of EP composites reached 26.9%, and the cone calorimeter results indicated that peak heat release rate (PHRR), total heat release (THR), smoke produce rate (SPR), and total smoke produce (TSP) remarkably decreased with increasing PEPA‐TMAC content. TGA data showed that the addition of PEPA‐TMAC greatly increased the amount of residual char during combustion. The morphology of the residual char was studied by SEM and showed that the addition of PEPA‐TMAC greatly increased the stability of EP composites. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDS), and FTIR results revealed the flame‐retardant mechanism that PEPA‐TMAC can promote the formation of charred layers with the phospho‐carbonaceous complexes in the condensed phase during burning of EP composites.  相似文献

A novel PZS@CS hybrid structure was synthesized for enhancing the flame retardancy of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The PZS@CS hybrids showed significant flame retardance. For example, the incorporation of 6 wt% PZS@CS obviously brought about an 8.8% increase of limiting oxygen index value (29.3%) and passed the vertical burning test UL‐94 V‐0 level, accompanied with the sharp reduction of heat and smoke release. The flame retardant mechanism of PZS@CS hybrids was fully studied by the Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), pyrolysis‐gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry, and Raman methods, and the results showed that the improvement of flame retardancy was mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of PZS and CS phases in both the condensed and the gas phase. Rheological results showed that PZS@CS hybrids improved the melt complex viscosity of PET composites and the well compatibility of PET matrix and PZS@CS hybrids was also proved by the improvement of mechanical properties.  相似文献

A phosphazene derivative flame retardant with a highly cross‐linked microsphere structure, named poly(cyclotriphosphazene‐c‐sulfonyldiphenol) (PCPS) microspheres, were synthesized by 1‐pot reaction and then applied on flame retarded epoxy (EP) resin. The microstructure and chemical composition of PCPS microspheres were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and element mapping. The thermal stability of PCPS microspheres and PCPS/EP composites was explored through thermogravimetric analysis. Thermogravimetric data showed that the PCPS microspheres have excellent thermal stability, and the char yield is about 43% at the end of 800°C. The incorporation of PCPS microspheres significantly increased the char yield of PCPS/EP composites. The flammability was investigated by limited oxygen index tests and cone calorimeter. The limited oxygen index value of PCPS/EP composite was increased to 29.8 from 26.6 when 3 wt% of PCPS microspheres was added. Compared with neat EP, the flame retardancy was greatly improved. The peak heat release rate and smoke production rate of PCPS/EP composites were reduced by 45.0% and 43.6%, respectively. The mechanical properties including tensile strength and modulus were both improved due to the enhancement of PCPS microspheres. The PCPS microspheres act as a dual function for improving both the flame resistance and mechanical strength of PCPS/EP system.  相似文献

Two novel, halogen-free, phosphorus-based oligomeric flame retardants are investigated in the commercial epoxy resin RTM6 and ∼70 wt.% carbon fibre RTM6 composites (RTM6-CF) with respect to pyrolysis and fire behaviour. The flame retardants are based on 9,10-dihydro-9-oxy-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) units linked to the star-shaped aliphatic ground body tetra-[(acryloyloxy)ethyl] pentarythrit (DOPP), or heterocyclic tris-[(acryloyloxy)ethyl] isocyanurate (DOPI), respectively. The glass transition temperature is reduced by adding DOPP and DOPI, but the mechanical properties of the composites (e.g. interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and Gc in mode I and II) remain unchanged. Decomposition models are proposed based on mass loss, evolved gas analysis (TG–FTIR) and condensed product analysis (hot stage cell within FTIR). The fire behaviour is investigated comprehensively (UL 94, limiting oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimeter). Both flame retardants act in the gas phase through flame inhibition and in the condensed phase through charring. The UL 94 of RTM6 is improved from HB to V-1 and V-0; the LOI from 25% to 34–38%. Peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat evolved (THE) are lowered by 31-49% and 40–44%, respectively. Adding CF increases the residue, reduces the THE, but suppresses the charring due to RTM6 and flame retardants. Thus the THE of RTM6-CF is reduced by about 25% when DOPI and DOPP are added. However, UL 94: V-0 and LOI of 45% and 48% are achieved with ∼0.6 wt.% phosphorus.  相似文献

A novel hybrid material of ZIF‐8/RGO (zeolitic imidazolate frameworks‐8 loaded the surface of graphene) was synthesised by a simple method and characterized. Then, ZIF‐8/RGO was added into epoxy resin (EP), and the flame retardancy and smoke suppression of the EP composites were studied. Compared with pure EP, the peak heat release rate and the total heat release of the EP composites were reduced remarkably, and their LOI and UL94 vertical burning rating were also improved. In addition, their smoke production rate and total smoke production were decreased drastically. The improved flame retardancy and smoke suppression were mainly attributed to the physical barrier effect of graphene. Meanwhile, the metal oxide decomposed from ZIF‐8 could contribute to the production of char residue and enhance the compactness of the char layer.  相似文献

A metal-doped organic and inorganic hybrid polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) with a titanium atom in the POSS cage and an ethanolamine substitute group in the corner, namely MEA-Ti-POSS, was synthesized through simple condensation reaction and substitute reaction. It was blended with 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO) to form a kind of blending-type flame retardant system for the modification of epoxy resins. The thermal stability, flame retardancy and mechanical properties of cured epoxy resin composites were studied. Comparing with pure epoxy resin, the LOI value of EP/MEA-Ti-POSS/DOPO composites was raised from 25.2% to 32.7%, and the UL-94 grade reached V-0 level at a loading of the mixture of 5% MEA-Ti-POSS and 5% DOPO. In addition, the cone calorimetry results showed that the heat release rate, total heat release and total smoke production as well as smoke production rate were all reduced during the combustion of EP/MEA-Ti-POSS/DOPO composites. The residual char analysis revealed that carbon residues of EP/MEA-Ti-POSS/DOPO composite served as a physical protective layer to insulate the oxygen and combustible gases to reduce the ablation of the matrix. It was concluded that the mixture of MEA-Ti-POSS and DOPO not only effectively raised the thermal stability and flame retardancy of epoxy composited materials, but also improved their mechanical properties, which expanded a promising application of the metal-POSS derivatives as non-halogen additives in the flame retardant polymers.  相似文献

Epoxy resin (EP) is more and more important in many fields, but its application is limited due to the inflammability in air of EP. Therefore, reducing the fire hazard of EP is necessary. In this work, a kind of hybrid flame retardant (α‐ZrP‐RGO) consisting of a 2‐dimensional inorganic reduced graphene oxide (RGO) modified with a planar‐like α‐zirconium phosphate (α‐ZrP) particles was prepared successfully via 1‐step hydrothermal method. The effects of α‐ZrP‐RGO on the thermal performance, flame retardancy, and smoke suppression of EP were investigated by preparing EP composites containing both EP and α‐ZrP‐RGO. Thermogravimetric results revealed that α‐ZrP‐RGO could improve the char yield of EP at 700°C obviously. In addition, compared with pure EP, the peak heat release rate and the total heat release of EP composites were decreased significantly, while the limited oxygen index of EP composites was increased. Meanwhile, the smoke production rate of EP composites was reduced obviously with the addition of α‐ZrP‐RGO. The enhanced flame retardancy and smoke suppression of EP composites were mainly attributed to not only the physical barrier effect of both α‐ZrP and RGO but also the catalytic effect of α‐ZrP during the combustion process of EP composites.  相似文献

A novel EVA/unmodified nano-magnesium hydroxide(NMH)/silicone rubber ternary nanocomposite was prepared by using a special compound flame retardant of NMH and silicone rubber(CFR).The flammability of the ternary composite was studied by cone calorimeter test(CCT).Synergistic effect on flame retardancy was found between silicone rubber and NMH.EVA/CFR ternary nanocomposite showed the lowest peak heat release rate(PHRR)and mass loss rate (MLR)among the samples of virgin EVA,EVA composites. The synergistic flame retardancy of silicone rubber and NMH in EVA system is attributed to the enhanced char layers in the condensed phase that prevents the heat and mass transfer in the fire.  相似文献

DOPO and boron nitride (BN) fillers with different particle sizes and several loadings were employed to improve the properties of cyanate ester (CE) resin. The effects of BN content and particle size on the thermal conductivity of the BN‐DOPO/CE ternary composites were discussed. The influence of enhancing the thermal conductivity of the ternary composites on their flame retardancy was studied. The consequences showed that increasing the thermal conductivity of BN‐DOPO/CE composites had an active impact on their flame retardancy. Approving flame retardancy of the ternary composites was certified by the high limiting oxygen index (LOI), UL‐94 rating of V‐0, and low heat release rate (HRR) and total heat release (THR). For instance, in contrast with pure CE matrix, peak of HRR (pk‐HRR), average of HRR (av‐HRR), THR, and average of effective heat of combustion (av‐EHC) of CEP/BN0.5 μm/10 composite were decreased by 51.7%, 33.8%, 18.7%, and 18.9%, respectively. Thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA) showed that the addition of BN fillers improves the thermal stability of the composites. Moreover, the ternary composites possess good dielectric properties. Their dielectric constants (ε) are less than 3, and dielectric loss tangent (tgδ) values are lower than neat CE resin.  相似文献

A highly cross‐linked poly (cyclotriphosphazene‐resveratrol) microsphere (PRV) was synthesized by using hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP) and bio‐based resveratrol (REV) as raw materials, and the obtained PRV microspheres were applied to improve the flame retardancy and mechanical property of epoxy resin (EP). The TGA results showed that the PRV microsphere is an excellent charring agent and the char yield is as high as 62% at 800°C. The incorporation of PRV makes the initial degradation earlier yet significantly increases the char residue of EP composites. Moreover, the introduction of PRV microspheres into EP greatly promoted the flame retardancy performance. Under 3% of addition of PRV microspheres, the peak heat release rate (PHRR) and total heat release (THR) were decreased by 58.3% and 29.6%, respectively, the limited oxygen index (LOI) value was increased to 29.7% from 25.3% of pure EP. In addition, because of the uniform distribution in EP matrix and the enhancing effect of PRV microspheres, the mechanical properties including tensile modulus of EP composites were strengthened. PRV microspheres in this paper provide a possibility to synthesize a dual functional filler, which acts as both flame retardant and strengthening agent.  相似文献

A new flame retardant system with organic modified boron nitride (m‐BN) and intumescent flame retardant (IFR) was used in this paper, and the synergistic flame retardancy of m‐BN and IFR on natural rubber (NR) was studied. NR/IFR/m‐BN composites were characterized by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis, UL‐94, limiting oxygen index (LOI), tensile testing, cone calorimeter testing, and thermal conductivity testing. When 4 wt% m‐BN was added, the flame retardancy and mechanical properties of the composites were improved. The LOI value of NR/IFR/4 phr m‐BN reached 26.8%, and suppressed fire spread in a UL‐94 test. Compared with pure NR, the peak heat release rate (pHRR) was reduced by 52.2%, the total heat release (THR) was reduced by 27.6%, and CO yields were reduced by 51.4%. As a key aspect of fire safety, the ignition time is effectively delayed to 23 seconds due to the increased thermal conductivity of NR/IFR/m‐BN. Since the synergistic effect of m‐BN effectively improves the flame retardancy of NR, it provides a feasible method for improving the fire safety of polymers.  相似文献

The flame‐retardant rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) with dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) and modified ammonium polyphosphate (MAPP) were prepared. The results showed that the limiting oxygen index (LOI) value was improved by adding DMMP into RPUF/MAPP composite; 10 wt% of DMMP addition can increase the LOI value from 24.3% to 26.0%, where the commercial application standard of RPUF is achieved. Further benefits of using DMMP/MAPP system included restraining of total heat and smoke release, improvement of thermal stability, and char yield of RPUF. The thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)‐gas chromatography‐mass spectrometer (GC‐MS) results indicated that DMMP/MAPP could continuously release PO2 and PO·free radicals in the gas phase. In addition, DMMP/MAPP exhibited the charring effect and barrier effect in the condensed phase, such bi‐flame retardant effect exerted by DMMP/MAPP resulted in the enhanced flame retardant property of RPUF.  相似文献
