The titanium complexes with one ( 1a , 1b , 1c ) and two ( 2a , 2b ) dialkanolamine ligands were used as initiators in the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone. Titanocanes 1a and 1b initiated living ROP of ε‐caprolactone affording polymers whose number‐average molecular weights (Mn) increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion (Mn ≤ 30,000 g mol?1) in agreement with calculated values, and were inversely proportional to initiator concentration, while the molecular weight distribution stayed narrow throughout the polymerization (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2 up to 80% monomer conversion). 1H‐NMR and MALDI‐TOF‐MS studies of the obtained poly(ε‐caprolactone)s revealed the presence of an isopropoxy group originated from the initiator at the polymer termini, indicating that the polymerization takes place exclusively at the Ti–OiPr bond of the catalyst. The higher molecular weight polymers (Mn ≤ 70,000 g mol?1) with reasonable MWD (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.6) were synthesized by living ROP of ε‐caprolactone using spirobititanocanes ( 2a , 2b ) and titanocane 1c as initiators. The latter catalysts, according MALDI‐TOF‐MS data, afford poly(ε‐caprolactone)s with almost equal content of α,ω‐dihydroxyl‐ and α‐hydroxyl‐ω(carboxylic acid)‐terminated chains arising due to monomer insertion into “Ti–O” bond of dialkanolamine ligand and from initiation via traces of water, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The bis‐sulfonamide m‐C6H4(SO2NHPh)2 efficiently promotes the ring‐opening polymerization of lactide when combined with tertiary amines, such as N,N‐dimethylaminopyridine. Polylactides of controlled molecular weights (Mn up to 17,700 g mol?1) and very narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn < 1.11) are obtained under mild conditions and in a living fashion. The reaction takes place through a bifunctional mechanism involving activation of both the alcohol and the monomer. Modulation of the sulfonamide component supports cooperative dual hydrogen‐bonding of lactide involving the two (SO2NHAr) moieties. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of pH and the ligand nature over the atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of the anionic monomer sodium 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonate (AMPSNa) was investigated in aqueous medium by using ω‐halogenated poly(ethylene oxide) and CuBr, as macroinitiator and catalyst, respectively. The stability of both catalytic complexes and macroinitiator was investigated in function of pH, that is, fixed between 7.5 and 12. UV‐VIS spectroscopy confirmed a good catalytic complex stability in the studied conditions. Hydrolysis of the macroinitiator ester group at pH higher than 7.5 was detected by 1H NMR and GPC, yielding ill‐defined polymer samples when ATRP is performed in alkaline conditions. 2,2′‐Bipyridyl (Bpy), 1,1,4,7,10,10‐hexamethyltriethylenetetramine (HMTETA), and tris(2‐methylaminoethyl)amine (Me6‐TREN)‐based complexes were compared at the optimal pH (pH 7.5). When polymerization was carried out in the presence of CuBr · 2Me6‐TREN complex block copolymers with narrow molecular weight distribution (1.1 ≤ M W/M n ≤ 1.3), and good agreement between theoretical and experimental molar masses was obtained. Moreover, increasing the PAMPSNa polymerization degrees (n) did not affect the control over the polymerization. Preliminary characterization of the diblock copolymers behavior in aqueous medium revealed a strong polyelectrolyte effect independently of n. Interestingly, occurrence of interactions between the PEO and PAMPSNa‐blocks was also evidenced by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analyses. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Triblock copolymers of poly(styrenesulfonate)‐b‐poly(ethylene glycol)‐b‐poly(styrenesulfonate) with narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn = 1.28–1.40) and well‐defined structure have been synthesized in aqueous solution at 70 °C via reversible addition‐fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) capped with 4‐cyanopentanoic acid dithiobenzoate end groups was used as the macro chain transfer agent (PEG macro‐CTA) for sole monomer sodium 4‐styrenesulfonate. The reaction was controllable and displayed living polymerization characteristics and the triblock copolymer had designed molecular weight. The reaction rate depended strongly on the CTA and initiator concentration ratio [CTA]0/[ACPA]0: an increase in [CTA]0/[ACPA]0 from 1.0 to 5.0 slowed down the polymerization rate and improved the molecular weight distribution with a prolonged induction time. The polymerization proceeded, following first‐order kinetics when [CTA]0/[ACPA]0 = 2.5 and 5.0. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 45: 3698–3706, 2007  相似文献

A novel catalyst composed of neodymium (III) isopropoxide [Nd(OiPr)3] and methylaluminoxane (MAO) was examined in isoprene polymerization. The Nd(OiPr)3‐MAO catalyst proved to be highly effective in heptane even at low [Al]/[Nd] ratios (ca. 30) to give polyisoprene that possessed high cis‐1,4 stereoregularity (> ca. 90%), a high number‐average molecular weight (Mn ~105), and relatively narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.9–2.8). The catalyst activity increased with an increasing [Al]/[Nd] ratio from 10 to 80 as well as temperature of aging and polymerization from 0 to 60 °C. The polymerization proceeded in the first order with respect to the monomer concentration. Aliphatic solvents (heptane and cyclohexane) achieved a higher yield and Mn of polymer than toluene as a solvent. The Mw/Mn ratio remained around 2.0, and the gel permeation chromatographic curve was always unimodal, indicating that this system is homogeneous and involves a single active site. The microstructure of polyisoprene was determined by IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. The cis‐1,4 contents of the final polymers stayed in the range of 90–92%, regardless of reaction conditions, indicating the high stability of stereospecificity of the catalyst. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To study the possibility of living cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers with a urethane group, 4‐vinyloxybutyl n‐butylcarbamate ( 1 ) and 4‐vinyloxybutyl phenylcarbamate ( 2 ) were polymerized with the hydrogen chloride/zinc chloride initiating system in methylene chloride solvent at ?30 °C ([monomer]0 = 0.30 M, [HCl]0/[ZnCl2]0 = 5.0/2.0 mM). The polymerization of 1 was very slow and gave only low‐molecular‐weight polymers with a number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of about 2000 even at 100% monomer conversion. The structural analysis of the products showed occurrence of chain‐transfer reactions because of the urethane group of monomer 1 . In contrast, the polymerization of vinyl ether 2 proceeded much faster than 1 and led to high‐molecular‐weight polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs ≤ ~1.2) in quantitative yield. The Mn's of the product polymers increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and continued to increase linearly after sequential addition of a fresh monomer feed to the almost completely polymerized reaction mixture, whereas the MWDs of the polymers remained narrow. These results indicated the formation of living polymer from vinyl ether 2 . The difference of living nature between monomers 1 and 2 was attributable to the difference of the electron‐withdrawing power of the carbamate substituents, namely, n‐butyl for 1 versus phenyl for 2 , of the monomers. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Segmented terpolymers, poly(alkyl methacrylate)‐g‐poly(D ‐lactide)/poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PLA/PDMS), were prepared with a combination of the “grafting through” technique (macromonomer method) and controlled/living radical polymerization (atom transfer radical polymerization or reversible addition–fragmentation transfer polymerization). Two synthetic pathways were used. The first was a single‐step approach in which a low‐molecular‐weight methacrylate monomer (methyl methacrylate or butyl methacrylate) was copolymerized with a PLA macromonomer and a PDMS macromonomer. The second strategy was a two‐step approach in which a graft copolymer containing one macromonomer was chain‐extended by a copolymerization of the second macromonomer and the low‐molecular‐weight methacrylate. The kinetics of both synthetic approaches were investigated, showing that the polymerizations exhibited a controlled/living behavior. Furthermore, the molecular structure of the terpolymers (composition, molecular weight distribution, and microstructure) was investigated by two‐dimensional liquid chromatography. Well‐defined terpolymers with controlled branch distribution, composition (Fw,PMMA/Fw,PLA/Fw,PDMS ~ 50/30/20) molecular weight (Mn ~ 50,000 g · mol?1), and a narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn ~ 1.3) were prepared via both pathways. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An azido‐containing functional monomer, 11‐azido‐undecanoyl methacrylate, was successfully polymerized via ambient temperature single electron transfer initiation and propagation through the reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (SET‐RAFT) method. The polymerization behavior possessed the characteristics of “living”/controlled radical polymerization. The kinetic plot was first order, and the molecular weight of the polymer increased linearly with the monomer conversion while keeping the relatively narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.22). The complete retention of azido group of the resulting polymer was confirmed by 1H NMR and FTIR analysis. Retention of chain functionality was confirmed by chain extension with methyl methacrylate to yield a diblock copolymer. Furthermore, the side‐chain functionalized polymer could be prepared by one‐pot/one‐step technique, which is combination of SET‐RAFT and “click chemistry” methods. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn) complexes incorporating tridentate anilido‐aldimine ligand, (E)‐2, 6‐diisopropyl‐N‐(2‐((2‐(piperidin‐1‐yl)ethylimino)methyl)phenyl)aniline ( AA Pip ‐H, 1 ), were synthesized and structurally characterized. The reaction of AA Pip ‐H ( 1 ) with MgnBu2 or ZnEt2 in equivalent proportions afforded the monomeric complex [( AA Pip )MgnBu] ( 2 ) or [( AA Pip )ZnEt] ( 3 ), respectively. The coordination modes of these complexes differ in the solid state: Mg complex 2 shows a four‐coordinated and distorted tetrahedral geometry, whereas Zn complex 3 adopts a trigonal planar geometry with a three‐coordinated Zn center. Complexes 2 and 3 are efficient catalysts for the ring‐opening polymerization of β‐butyrolactone (β‐BL) in the presence of 9‐anthracenemethanol (9‐AnOH). The polymerization of β‐BL with the Zn catalyst system is demonstrated in a living fashion with a narrow polydispersity index, PDI = 1.01–1.10. The number‐averaged molecular weight (Mn) of the produced poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) is quite close to the expected Mn over diverse molar ratios of monomer to 9‐AnOH. A greater ratio of monomer to alcohol catalyzed by Zn complex 3 served to form PHB with a large molecular weight (Mn > 60000). An effective method to prepare PHB‐b‐PCL and PEG‐b‐PHB by the ring‐opening copolymerization of β‐BL catalyzed by zinc complex 3 is reported. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The synthesis of hydrophilic, thermoresponsive, and zwitterionic polymethacrylates is reported by Cu(0)‐mediated reversible deactivation radical polymerization in water and/or water/alcohol mixtures. The predisproportionation of [CuI(PMDETA)Cl] in water prior to initiator and monomer addition is exploited to yield well‐defined polymethacrylates with full monomer conversions in 30 min. The addition of supplementary halide salts (NaCl) enables the synthesis of various molecular weight poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate] (PEGMA475) (DPn = 10–80, Mn ≈ 10 000–40 000 g mol−1) with full monomer conversion and narrow molecular weight distributions attained in all cases (Đ ≈ 1.20–1.30). A bifunctional PEG initiator (average Mn ≈ 1000 g mol−1) is utilized for the polymerization of a wide range of methacrylates including 2‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, 2‐morpholinoethyl methacrylate, [2‐(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl‐(3‐sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide, and 2‐methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine. Despite the high water content, high end group fidelity is demonstrated by in situ chain extensions and block copolymerizations with PEGMA475 yielding well‐defined functional telechelic pentablock copolymers within 2.5 h.

A chiral monomer containing L ‐leucine as a pendant group was synthesized from methacryloyl chloride and L ‐leucine in presence of sodium hydroxide at 4 °C. The monomer was polymerized by free radical polymerization in propan‐2‐ol at 60 °C using 2,2′‐azobis isobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator under nitrogen atmosphere. The polymer, poly(2‐(Methacryloyloxyamino)‐4‐methyl pentanoic acid) is thus obtained. The molecular weight of the polymer was determined to be: Mw is 6.9 × 103 and Mn is 5.6 × 103. The optical rotation of both chiral monomer and its polymer varies with the solvent polarity. The amplification of optical rotation due to transformation of monomer to polymer is associated with the ordered conformation of chiral monomer unit in the polymeric chain due to some secondary interactions like H‐bonding. The synthesized monomer and polymer exhibit intense Cotton effect at 220 nm. The conformation of the chain segments is sensitive to external stimuli, particularly the pH of the medium. In alkaline medium, the ordered chain conformation is destroyed resulting disordered random coils. The ordered coiling conformation is more firmly present on addition of HCl. The polymer exhibits swelling‐deswelling characteristics with the change of pH of the medium, which is reversible. The Cotton effect decreases linearly with the increase of temperature which is reversible on cooling. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem 47: 2228–2242, 2009  相似文献

A tridentate ligand, BPIEP: 2,6‐bis[1‐(2,6‐diisopropyl phenylimino) ethyl] pyridine, having central pyridine unit and two peripheral imine coordination sites was effectively employed in controlled/“living” radical polymerization of MMA at 90°C in toluene as solvent, CuIBr as catalyst, and ethyl‐2‐bromoisobutyrate (EBiB) as initiator resulting in well‐defined polymers with polydispersities Mw/Mn ≤ 1.23. The rate of polymerization follows first‐order kinetics, kapp = 3.4 × 10?5 s?1, indicating the presence of low radical concentration ([P*] ≤ 10?8) throughout the reaction. The polymerization rate attains a maximum at a ligand‐to‐metal ratio of 2:1 in toluene at 90°C. The solvent concentration (v/v, with respect to monomer) has a significant effect on the polymerization kinetics. The polymerization is faster in polar solvents like, diphenylether, and anisole, as compared to toluene. Increasing the monomer concentration in toluene resulted in a better control of polymerization. The molecular weights (Mn,SEC) increased linearly with conversion and were found to be higher than predicted molecular (Mn,Cal). However, the polydispersity remained narrow, i.e., ≤1.23. The initiator efficiency at lower monomer concentration approaches a value of 0.7 in 110 min as compared to 0.5 in 330 min at higher monomer concentration. The aging of the copper salt complexed with BPIEP had a beneficial effect and resulted in polymers with narrow polydispersitities and higher conversion. PMMA obtained at room temperature in toluene (33%, v/v) gave PDI of 1.22 (Mn = 8500) in 48 h whereas, at 50°C the PDI is 1.18 (Mn = 10,300), which is achieved in 23 h. The plot of lnkapp versus 1/T gave an apparent activation energy of polymerization as (ΔEapp) 58.29 KJ/mol and enthalpy of equilibrium (ΔH0eq) to 28.8 KJ/mol. Reverse ATRP of MMA was successfully performed using AIBN in bulk as well as solution. The controlled nature of the polymerization reaction was established through kinetic studies and chain extension experiments. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The atom transfer radical polymerizations of styrene were successfully carried out in bulk and solution, respectively, at 115 °C, with a novel photoiniferter reagent, (1‐naphthyl)methyl N,N‐diethyldithiocarbamate (NMDC), as an initiator in the presence of copper (I) bromide and N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine. The results showed that NMDC was an effective initiator with high initiation efficiency for ATRP of St. The polymerization rate was first‐order with respect to the monomer concentration and the molecular weights of the obtained polystyrene (PS) increased linearly with the monomer conversion, with very narrow molecular weight distributions (Mw/Mn = 1.07–1.29). The functionalized naphthalene‐labeled PS bearing N,N‐(diethylamino)dithiocarbamoyl group which was confirmed by 1H NMR analysis, and chain extension of the PS exhibited fluorescence and ultraviolet absorption in chloroform (CHCl3). © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article reports a new one‐pot method for polymer preparation, which involves double click chemistry. In one pot, two click reactions take place sequentially by adding the reactants step by step. The first click reaction is to produce the monomer for the second click reaction for polymerization. The click polymerization differs from the general click polymerization with the reaction of diazides and dialkynes. Nitrile oxides, produced in situ by the first click reaction of the formation of aldoxime, instead azides, avoiding the poisonousness and explosiveness of azides and being much safer and easy to operate. And 3,5‐disubstitute polyisoxazoles are produced by the copper(I)‐catalyzed the 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition of nitrile oxides with alkynes in high yields by our one‐pot method. The resulting polyisoxazoles agree well with the structural assignment obtained by the 1H NMR and IR analyses, with high molecular weights, narrow molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn < 1.2) and high regioregularity. The poor solubility of these polymers is found to be caused by their crystallization. Improvement of solubility is achieved by modifying the structures of alkyne monomers. All the polymers are thermally stable, losing little of their weights when heated to ~350 °C. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2013  相似文献

Dendritic polyarylether 2‐bromoisobutyrates of different generations (Gn‐Br, n = 1–3) as macroinitiators for the atom transfer radical copolymerization of N‐hexylmaleimide and styrene in an ionic liquid, 1‐butyl‐3‐methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate, were investigated. The copolymerization carried out in the ionic liquid with CuBr/pentamethyldiethylenetriamine as a catalyst at room temperature afforded polymers with well‐defined molecular weights and low polydispersities (1.18 < Mw/Mn < 1.36, where Mw is the weight‐average molecular weight and Mn is the number‐average molecular weight), and the resultant copolymers possessed an alternating structure over a wide range of monomer feeds (f1 = 0.3–0.8). Meanwhile, the copolymerization was also conducted in anisole at 110 °C under similar conditions so that the effect of the reaction media on the polymerization could be evaluated. The monomer reactivity ratios showed that the tendency to form alternating copolymers for the two monomers was stronger in ionic liquids than in anisole. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Living cationic polymerization of 2‐adamantyl vinyl ether (2‐vinyloxytricyclo[3.3.1.1]3,7decane; 2‐AdVE) was achieved with the CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3/ethylaluminum sesquichloride/ethyl acetate [CH3CH(OiBu)OCOCH3/Et1.5AlCl1.5/CH3COOEt] initiating system in toluene at 0 °C. The number‐average molecular weights (Mn's) of the obtained poly(2‐AdVE)s increased in direct proportion to monomer conversion and produced the polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs) (Mw/Mn = ~1.1). When a second monomer feed was added to the almost polymerized reaction mixture, the added monomer was completely consumed and the Mn's of the polymers showed a direct increase against conversion of the added monomer. Block and statistical copolymerization of 2‐AdVE with n‐butyl vinyl ether (CH2?CH? O? CH2 CH2CH2CH3; NBVE) were possible via living process based on the same initiating system to give the corresponding copolymers with narrow MWDs. Grass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal decomposition temperature (Td) of the poly(2‐AdVE) (e.g., Mn = 22,000, Mw/Mn = 1.17) were 178 and 323 °C, respectively. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A fast living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) proceeded with the (MMA)2? Cl/Ru(Ind)Cl(PPh3)2 initiating system in the presence of n‐Bu2NH as an additive [where (MMA)2? Cl is dimethyl 2‐chloro‐2,4,4‐trimethyl glutarate]. The polymerization reached 94% conversion in 5 h to give polymers with controlled number‐average molecular weights (Mn's) in direct proportion to the monomer conversion and narrow molecular weight distributions [MWDs; weight‐average molecular weight/number‐average molecular weight (Mw/Mn) ≤ 1.2]. A poly(methyl methacrylate) with a high molecular weight (Mn ~ 105) and narrow MWD (Mw/Mn ≤ 1.2) was obtained with the system within 10 h. A similarly fast but slightly slower living radical polymerization was possible with n‐Bu3N, whereas n‐BuNH2 resulted in a very fast (93% conversion in 2.5 h) and uncontrolled polymerization. These added amines increased the catalytic activity through some interaction such as coordination to the ruthenium center. © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. For the synthesis of aromatic polyesters with defined molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (MWDs), we investigated the chain‐growth polycondensation of active amide derivatives of 4‐hydroxybenzoic acid, 1a and 1b , having an octyl or 4,7‐dioxaoctyl side chain, respectively. To suppress the transesterification of the polymer backbone with the monomer, the polymerization of 1 was carried out in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at −30 °C in the presence of initiator 2 and Et3SiH/CsF/18‐crown‐6, which generated a hydride ion as a base in situ. The number‐average molecular weight (Mn) of poly 1a was controlled, and narrow MWDs were maintained, until the [ 1a ]0/[ 2 ]0 feed ratio was 14.3 (Mn ≤ 3500), whereas that of poly 1b was controlled until the feed ratio was 30 (Mn ≤ 7250). The difference stemmed from the higher solubility of poly 1b in THF. This chain‐growth polycondensation was applied to the synthesis of a diblock copolyester of 1a and 1b of a defined architecture. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Single electron transfer‐living radical polymerization (SET‐LRP) represents a robust and versatile method for the rapid synthesis of macromolecules with defined architecture. The present article describes the polymerization of methyl methacrylate by SET‐LRP in protic solvent mixtures. Herein, the polymerization process was catalyzed by a straightforward Cu(0)wire/Me6‐TREN catalyst while initiation was obtained by toluenesulfonyl chloride. All experiments were conducted at 50 °C and the living polymerization was demonstrated by kinetic evaluation of the SET‐LRP. The process follows first order kinetic until all monomer is consumed which was typically achieved within 4 h. The molecular weight increased linearly with conversion and the molecular weight distributions were very narrow with Mw/Mn ~ 1.1. Detailed investigations of the polymer samples by MALDI‐TOF confirmed that no termination took place and that the chain end functionality is retained throughout the polymerization process. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Developing new materials with unique properties for nanotechnology applications, in general, and supramolecular polymers, in particular, lie at the heart of much ongoing research. In line with these efforts, we have been exploring polymers containing terpyridine (terpy) in the side chain. Here we report a new monomer that effectively undergoes reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) to yield high‐molecular‐weight (Mn) polymers with narrow polydispersity (PDI). The monomer is an N‐succinimide activated ester of p‐vinyl benzoic acid. Under RAFT conditions, poly(N‐succinimide p‐vinylbenzoate)s were generated, with Mn ranging between 44 and 61 kDa and PDI of 1.03–1.07. One of these homopolymers was reacted with an amine functionalized terpy, creating a new homopolymer containing terpy ligands on every monomer. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
