Hyperbranched poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) was synthesized by a combination of cationic ring‐opening polymerization and the oxidation of thiol to disulfide groups. A three‐arm star poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PEtOx) was first synthesized using 1,3,5‐tris(bromomethyl) benzene as an initiator. The star PEtOx was end‐capped with potassium ethyl xanthate. Similarly, a linear PEtOx was synthesized and end‐capped with potassium ethyl xanthate using benzyl bromide as an initiator. Hyperbranched PEtOx was then obtained by in situ cleaving and subsequent oxidation of the star PEtOx and linear PEtOx mixture with n‐butylamine as both a cleaving agent and a base in tetrahydrofuran. The linear PEtOx was used to prevent the formation of gel. The hyperbranched PEtOx can be cleaved with dithiothreitol to trithiol and monothiol polymer. The hyperbranched PEtOx shows no remaining thiols using Ellman's assay. The resulting hyperbranched PEtOx was hydrolyzed to a novel hyperbranched polyethyleneimine with degradable disulfide linkages. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of comb polymers consisting of a methacrylate backbone and poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (PEtOx) side chains was synthesized by a combination of cationic ring‐opening polymerization and reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. Small‐angle neutron scattering (SANS) studies revealed a transition from an ellipsoidal to a cylindrical conformation in D2O around a backbone degree of polymerization of 30. Comb‐shaped PEtOx has lowered Tg values but a similar elution behavior in liquid chromatography under critical conditions in comparison to its linear analog was observed. The lower critical solution temperature behavior of the polymers was investigated by turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, and SANS revealing decreasing Tcp in aqueous solution with increasing molar mass, the presence of very few aggregated structures below Tcp, a contraction of the macromolecules at temperatures 5 °C above Tcp but no severe conformational change of the cylindrical structure. In addition, the phase diagram including cloud point and coexistence curve was developed showing an LCST of 75 °C of the binary mixture poly[oligo(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline)methacrylate]/water. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The purpose of this study was to develop a degradable thermoset shape‐memory polymer from poly(β‐amino ester) (PBAE) networks. PBAE was chosen to be the crosslinker as it is biodegradable and has been projected as a potential material for biomedical applications. The low glass transition temperature of PBAE was increased to a biomedically relevant range using methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate as the linear chain builders. The thermo‐mechanical properties of the networks were tailored such that they exhibited onset of glass transition temperature in between the room temperature (22 °C) and the body temperature (37 °C). Free‐strain recovery tests under heating and isothermal conditions were performed to quantify shape‐memory behavior. Testing showed that sampled programmed at 10 °C initiated deformation recovery at a lower temperature and a faster rate as compared to programming at 60 °C. Higher thermal conductivity of water enabled the samples to recover faster in water than in air. Samples with higher PBAE crosslinking densities exhibited higher normalized mass loss under regular and accelerated conditions. The amount of water absorption in the networks also increased with the crosslinker concentration independent of the testing conditions. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The self‐assembly of a novel double hydrophilic block copolymer in water without the application of external triggers is described, namely pullulan‐b‐poly(2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline) (Pull‐b‐PEtOx). The biomacromolecules, Pull (8–38 kg mol?1), is modified and conjugated to biocompatible PEtOx (22 kg mol?1) via modular conjugation. Moreover, the molecular weight of the Pull blocks are varied to investigate the effect of molecular weight on the self‐assembly behavior. Spherical particles with sizes between 300 and 500 nm are formed in diluted aqueous solution (0.1–1.0 wt %) as observed via dynamic light scattering and static light scattering. Additionally, cryo scanning electron microscopy and laser scanning confocal microscopy are performed to support the finding from light scattering. The block ratio study shows an optimum ratio of Pull and PEtOx of 0.4/0.6 for self‐assembly in water in the concentration range of 0.1–1.0 wt %. At higher concentrations of 20 wt %, vesicular structures with sizes above 1 µm can be observed via optical microscopy. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A facile method to prepare shape memory polymers crosslinked by SiO2 is described. A series of biodegradable shape memory networks were obtained through thiol‐ene reaction triggered by UV irradiation between surface‐thiol‐modified SiO2 nanoparticles and end‐acrylate poly (ε‐caprolactone) (PCL). The highly selective thiol‐ene reaction ensured a uniform distribution of PCL chains between crosslinkers, contributing well‐defined network architecture with enhanced mechanical and shape‐memory properties. Thiol‐functionalized silica nanoparticle was characterized by using FTIR and XPS analysis, and 1H NMR spectra was used to confirm the successful modification of terminal hydroxyl group of PCL diol. Surface‐modified silica particles were found well dispersible in acrylate‐capped PCL supported by SEM. Thermal and crystalline behaviors of the obtained polymers were analyzed by DSC and XRD, and DMA measurement proved good mechanical property. The shape memory behavior and tensile strength was somewhat tunable by the length of PCL. Acceptably, sample SiO2‐SMP2k presented 99% recovery ratio and 97% shape fixity, and its relatively high tensile strength showed an attractive potential for biomedical application. Finally, a possible molecular mechanism accounting for the shape memory property was illustrated. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017 , 55, 692–701  相似文献

Shape memory properties of two thermoplastic multiblock copolymers composed of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) having different PEG‐segment lengths of 6 and 11 kDa were studied. The performance as a shape memory polymer at high strain level (600%) and its interrelations with shape‐programming conditions, molecular orientation, and microstructural changes are elucidated. A significant contribution of strain‐induced crystallization of PLA segments to the improvement of temporary shape fixation was evidenced upon increasing draw ratio and/or shape‐holding duration as well as programming temperature (within certain range) without largely sacrificing the shape recoverability. Series of microstructural characterizations reveal the occurrence of fibrillar‐to‐lamellar transformation upon shape recovery (at 60 °C) of the samples programmed at 40 °C, generating shish–kebab crystalline morphology. Such phenomenon is responsible for the high‐strain shape memory effect of these materials. The unprecedented formation of shish–kebab structure at such relatively low temperature (instead of the melting temperature range) in solid state observed in these copolymers as well as their high‐strain shape memory functionality would bestow the promising future for their practicability in diverse areas. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Room temperature Suzuki cross‐coupling polymerization of aryl dibromides/diiodides with aryldiboronic acids/acid esters with t‐Bu3P‐coordinated 2‐phenylaniline‐based palladacycle complex, [2′‐(amino‐kN)[1,1′‐biphenyl]‐2‐yl‐kC]chloro(tri‐t‐butylphosphine)palladium, as a general precatalyst is described. Such room temperature Suzuki cross‐coupling polymerization is achieved by employing six equivalents or more of the base and affords polymers within an hour, with the yields and the molecular weights in general comparable to or higher than reported results that required higher reaction temperature and/or longer polymerization time. Our study provides a general catalyst system for the room temperature Suzuki cross‐coupling polymerization of aryl dibromides/diiodides with aryldiboronic acids/acid esters and paves the road for the investigation of employing other monodentate ligand‐coordinated palladacycle complexes including other electron‐rich monophosphine‐coordinated ones for room temperature cross‐coupling polymerizations. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A reddish‐brown fluoroalkyl end‐capped 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS) oligomer/acetone composite was prepared by heating the white oligomer powder with acetone at 80 °C for 3 h. The color was not observed in the corresponding non‐fluorinated AMPS oligomer/acetone composite, which was prepared under similar conditions. The coloring was probably caused by the formation of acetone polyaldol condensation products in the fluorinated oligomeric gel network cores. The colored RF‐(AMPS)n‐RF/acetone composite powders were stable and did not exhibit any color change after 2 years in natural light at room temperature. The colored composite powders dissolved in methanol to give a reddish‐brown solution at room temperature. However, the retro‐polyaldol condensation decolored the solution after 1 day at room temperature. This is the first example of the retro‐aldol polycondensation of acetone under mild conditions. The decoloration increased by between 38‐ and 70‐fold under UV irradiation, compared with that in dark conditions. The coloring–decoloring behavior was consistent and repeatable; therefore our fluorinated oligomer/acetone composites are promising candidates for new fluorinated coloring materials. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Herein, cylindrical molecular bottlebrushes grafted with poly(2‐oxazoline) (POx) as a shaped tunable uni‐molecular nanoparticle were synthesized via the grafting‐onto approach. First, poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PGMA) backbones with azide pendant units were prepared via reversible addition fragmentation transfer (RAFT) polymerization followed by post‐modification. The degree of polymerization (DP) of the backbones was tuned in a range from 20 to 800. Alkynyl‐terminated POx side chains were synthesized by living cationic ring opening polymerization (LCROP) of 2‐ethyl‐2‐oxazoline (EtOx) and 2‐methyl‐2‐oxazoline (MeOx), respectively. The DP of side chains was varied between 20 and 100. Then, the copper‐catalyzed azide‐alkynyl cycloaddition (CuAAC) click chemistry was conducted with a feed ratio of [alkynyl]:[azide] = 1.2:1 to yield a series of brushes. Depending on the DP of side chains, the grafting density ranged between 47 and 85%. The resulting brushlike nanoparticles exhibited shapes of sphere, rod and worm. Aqueous solutions of PEtOx brushes demonstrated a thermoresponsive behavior as a function of the length of backbones and side chains. Surprisingly, it was found that the lower critical solution temperature of PEtOx brushes increased with a length increase of backbones. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. A series of rigid‐rod polyamides and polyimides containing p‐terphenyl or p‐quinquephenyl moieties in backbone as well as naphthyl pendent groups were synthesized from two new aromatic diamines. The polymers were characterized by inherent viscosity, elemental analysis, FT‐IR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, X‐ray, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermomechanical analysis (TMA), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), isothermal gravimetric analysis, and moisture absorption. All polymers were amorphous and displayed Tg values at 304–337°C. Polyamides dissolved upon heating in polar aprotic solvents containing LiCl as well as CCl3COOH, whereas polyimides were partially soluble in these solvents. No weight loss was observed up to 377–422°C in N2 and 355–397°C in air. The anaerobic char yields were 57–69% at 800°C. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) with a pendent coumarin group was prepared by solution polycondensation from 7‐(3,5‐dicarboxyphenyl) carbonylmethoxycoumarin dichloride and α, ω‐dihydroxy terminated poly(ε‐caprolactone) with molecular weights of 1250, 3000, and 10,000 g/mol. These photosensitive polymers underwent a rapid reversible photocrosslinking upon exposure to irradiation with alternating wavelengths (>280/254 nm) without a photoinitiator. The thermal and mechanical properties of the photocrosslinked films were examined by means of differential scanning calorimetry and stress–strain measurements. The crosslinked films exhibited elastic properties above the melting temperature of the PCL segment along with significant decrease in the ultimate tensile strength and Young's modulus. Shape‐memory properties such as strain fixity ratio (Rf) and strain recovery ratio (Rr) were determined by means of a cyclic thermomechanical tensile experiments under varying maximum strains (εm = 100, 300, and 500%). The crosslinked ICM/PCL‐3000 and ‐10,000 films exhibited the excellent shape‐memory properties in which both Rf and Rr values were 88–100% for tensile strain of 100–500%; after the deformation, the films recovered their permanent shapes instantaneously. In vitro degradation was performed in a phosphate buffer saline (pH 7.2) at 37 °C with or without the presence of Pseudomonas cepacia lipase. The presence of the pendent coumarin group and the crosslinking of the polymers pronouncedly decreased the degradation rate. The crosslinked biodegradable PCL showing a good shape‐memory property is promising as a new material for biomedical applications. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hydration in a new semiaromatic polyamide, named polyamide 9‐T (PA9‐T), a copolymer of terephthalic acid with n‐ and iso‐nonanediamines, is studied by dynamic viscoelastic analysis under controlled humidity conditions and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction analysis in comparison with common polyamide nylon 6. The storage modulus of PA9‐T is retained at up to 60 °C with increasing humidity, then dropped with further increases in temperature past 70 °C. The decrease in mechanical properties at 70 °C due to moisture uptake is found to be substantially improved by annealing to develop molecular packing and/or crystallization. In contrast, the storage modulus of very highly crystallized (50% crystallinity) nylon 6 decreases markedly with humidity at low temperatures such as 20 °C. Thus, PA9‐T retains its mechanical properties in humid atmospheres at much higher temperatures than nylon 6. The crystalline X‐ray diffraction peaks for nylon 6 corresponding to (002) + (202) of the α form shift upon absorption of moisture, speculated to be due to the weakening of hydrogen bonds and the subsequent conformational disordering of the chains. Unlike nylon 6, the crystalline peaks of PA9‐T do not shift due to moisture uptake. This is considered to be attributable to that the long aliphatic chain in PA9‐T forms the large hydrophobic domain, rendering PA9‐T less hygroscopic than nylon 6. Additionally, strong hydrogen bonds formed by terephthalamide residues together with a strong stacking force of phenylene groups may also repel water, preventing moisture bind with the amide groups of PA9‐T crystals. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel, fluorinated diamine monomer, 2,5‐bis(4‐amino‐2‐ trifluoromethylphenoxy)‐tert‐butylbenzene ( II ) was synthesized through the nucleophilic substitution reaction of tert‐butylhydroquinone (t‐BHQ) and 2‐chloro‐5‐nitrobenzotrifluoride in the presence of potassium carbonate to yield the intermediate dinitro compound I , followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C to afford diamine II . A series of fluorinated polyimides V were prepared from II with various aromatic dianhydrides ( III a–f ) via the thermal imidization of poly(amic acid). Most of V a–f could be soluble in amide‐type solvents and even in less polar solvents. These polyimide films showed tensile strengths up to 106 MPa, elongation at break up to 21%, and initial modulus up to 2.1 GPa. The glass‐transition temperature of V was recorded at 245–304 °C, the 10% weight loss temperatures were above 488 °C, and left more than 41% residue even at 800 °C in nitrogen. Low dielectric constants, low moisture absorptions, and higher and light‐colored transmittances were also observed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of shape‐memory epoxy thermosets were synthesized by crosslinking diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A with mixtures of commercially available hyperbranched poly(ethyleneimine) and polyetheramine. Thermal, mechanical and shape‐memory properties were studied and the effect on them of the content and structure of the hyperbranched polymer was discussed. Measurements showed that the glass transition temperature can be tailored from 60 °C to 117 °C depending on the hyperbranched polymer content, and all formulations showed an appropriate glassy/rubbery storage modulus ratio. Shape‐memory programming was carried out at TgE′ given the excellent mechanical properties of the materials, with maximum stress and failure strain up to 15 MPa and 60%, respectively. The resulting shape‐memory behavior was excellent, with maximum shape recovery and shape fixity of 98% as well as a fast shape‐recovery rate of 22%/min. The results show that hyperbranched poly(ethyleneimine) as a crosslinking agent can be used to enhance mechanical and shape‐memory properties with different effects depending on the crosslinking density. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Tough networks are prepared by photo‐crosslinking high‐molecular‐weight DLLA and TMC macromers. These amorphous networks exhibit tunable thermal and mechanical properties and have excellent shape‐memory features. Variation of the monomer ratio allows adjustment of Tg between approximately ?13 and +51 °C. The elastic moduli at room temperature can be varied between 4.5 and 2730 MPa. The crosslinks allow the networks to return to their original shape after deformation. 60:40 DLLA:TMC networks have Tg values between room temperature and body temperature, with mechanical properties at body temperature close to soft tissues. Several medical devices are prepared from these networks.

A series of polyester‐amides that contain phosphorus were synthesized by low temperature solution condensation of 1,4‐bis(3‐aminobenzoyloxy)‐2‐(6‐oxido‐6H‐dibenz〈c,e〉〈1,2〉oxaphosphorin‐6‐yl) phenylene (III) with various aromatic acid chlorides in N‐methyl pyrrolidone (NMP). All polyester‐amides are amorphous and readily soluble in many organic solvents such as dimethylacetamide (DMAc), NMP, dimethylsulfoxide, and dimethylformamide at room temperature or on heating. Light yellow and flexible films of these polyester‐amides could be cast from the DMAc solutions. The polymers with an inherent viscosity of 0.26–0.72 dL/g were obtained in quantitative yields. These polyester‐amides have good mechanical properties (G′ of ∼ 109 Pa up to 200°C) and good thermal and flame retardant properties. The glass transition temperatures of these polyester‐amides ranged from 250 to 273°C. The degradation temperatures (Td 5%) in nitrogen ranged from 466 to 478°C and the char yields at 800°C were 59.6–65.2%. The limiting oxygen indexes of these polyester‐amides ranged from 35 to 43. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Polym Sci A: Polym Chem 37: 891–899, 1999  相似文献

This study investigated the synthesis of the biocatalyst, magnesium 2,6‐di‐tert‐butyl‐4‐methylphenoxide (Mg(BHT)2) complex, and the ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of ε‐caprolactone (CL). The complex demonstrates high catalytic activity and controllable of molecular weight for the ROP of CL in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature, even when polymerization was performed under air. Before this study, the polymerization of CL had never been performed using a magnesium catalyst under air at room temperature. Various forms of alcohols with different purposes were also used as initiators with Mg(BHT)2. The results show that the magnesium complex acts as a perfect catalyst because of its high catalytic activity and control ability without any cytotoxicity in the polymerization of CL, making it suitable for biomedical applications. In addition, nanoparticle formation, cytotoxicity, and phototoxicity of tri‐2‐hydroxyethyl ester [Ce6‐(CH2CH2OPCL)3] were also studied in this article and Ce6‐(CH2CH2OPCL)3 formed nanoparticle can act as a nanophotosensitizer for photodynamic therapy. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Novel polyesterurethane/poly(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) interpenetrating networks (IPNs) with good shape‐memory properties were synthesized using solvent casting method. The star‐shaped oligo[(rac‐lactide)‐co‐glycolide] was coupled with isophorone diisocyanate to form a polyesterurethane network (PULG), and PEGDMA was photopolymerized to form another polyetheracrylate network. IPNs were transparent and gel content exceeded 92%. The values of strain fixity rate and strain recovery rate were above 93%. PULG and PEGDMA networks in IPNs were amorphous and did not show any characteristic diffraction peaks in X‐ray diffraction spectra. Only one glass transition temperature (Tg) of the IPNs between Tg of PEGDMA and PULG was observed, which was proportional to PEGDMA content. PULG and PEGDMA networks were miscible when PEGDMA content was below 50 wt %. The hydrophilicity, transition temperatures, and mechanical properties of IPNs could be conveniently adjusted through variation of network compositions to match the promising potential clinical or medical applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This article describes the synthesis and characterization of [polystyrene‐b‐poly(2‐vinylpyridine)]n star‐block copolymers with the poly(2‐vinylpyridine) blocks at the periphery. A two‐step living anionic polymerization method was used. Firstly, oligo(styryl)lithium grafted poly(divinylbenzene) cores were used as multifunctional initiators to initiate living anionic polymerization of styrene in benzene at room temperature. Secondly, vinylpyridine was polymerized at the periphery of these living (polystyrene)n stars in tetrahydrofuran at ?78 °C. The resulting copolymers were characterized using size exclusion chromatography, multiangle laser light scattering, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and intrinsic viscosity measurements. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report the synthesis of linear‐ and brush‐type poly(?‐caprolactone) (PCL) networks and investigate their thermal, mechanical, and shape memory behavior. Brush‐PCLs are prepared by ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of a norbornenyl‐functionalized ?‐caprolactone macromonomer (MM‐PCL) of different molecular weights. The linear analog, diacrylate end‐functionalized PCL (linear‐PCL), having comparable molecular weight of side chain of brush‐PCL is also synthesized. These polymers are thermally cured by a radical initiator in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate crosslinker. Thermal and linear viscoelastic properties as well as shape memory performance of the resulting PCL networks are investigated, and are significantly impacted by the PCL architecture. Therefore, our work highlights that tailoring macromolecular architecture is useful strategy to manipulate thermal, mechanical, and resulting shape memory properties. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
