Abstract

The regioselective synthesis of Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-based norbornyl imide derivatives through palladium catalyzed Heck coupling reaction was reported on an effective synthetic method to organic–inorganic bio-hybrids serving as advanced materials. The reaction of POSS-based imide derivatives with various aryl iodides catalyzed by palladium acetate in the presence of triethyl amine, as the base, in DMF afforded the products in moderate yields. All new POSS derivatives were structurally characterized by FTIR, 1H, 13C NMR, HRMS and GC/MS analyses.  相似文献

Copolymerizations of styrene and the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)–styryl macromonomer 1‐(4‐vinylphenyl)‐3,5,7,9,11,13,15‐heptacyclopentylpentacyclo [9.5.1.13,9.15,15.17,13] octasiloxane have been performed with CpTiCl3 in conjunction with methylaluminoxane. Random copolymers of syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) and POSS have been formed and fully characterized with 1H and 13C NMR, gel permeation chromatography, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis. NMR data reveal a moderately high syndiotacticity of the polystyrene backbone consistent with this use of CpTiCl3 as a catalyst and POSS loadings as high as 24 wt % and 3.2 mol %. Thermogravimetric analysis of the sPS–POSS copolymers under both nitrogen and air shows improved thermal stability with higher degradation temperatures and char yields, demonstrating that the inclusion of the inorganic POSS nanoparticles makes the organic polymer matrix more thermally robust. The polymerization activity and thermal stability are also compared with those of reported atactic polystyrene–POSS copolymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS), consisting mainly of a mixture of octahedra, nonahedra, and decahedra with bulky and flexible organic substituents, with three secondary hydroxyls per organic group, was used to modify epoxy networks produced by the homopolymerization of diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A in the presence of benzyldimethylamine. Several physical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the cured materials containing 0, 10, 30, and 50 wt % POSS were determined. The addition of POSS increased the elastic modulus and the yield stress measured in uniaxial compression tests, mainly because of the increase in the cohesive energy density produced by hydrogen bonding through the hydroxyl groups. A constant yield stress/elastic modulus ratio equal to 0.03 was observed for different POSS concentrations and test temperatures. The glass‐transition temperature decreased with POSS addition because of the flexibility of organic branches present in the POSS structure and the decrease in the crosslink density (determined from the rubbery modulus). Although a combination of a reduction in the glass‐transition temperature (plasticization) with an increase in the glassy modulus (antiplasticization) is a well‐known phenomenon, what is original is that in this case it was not the result of the suppression (or reduction in intensity) of subglass relaxations but was produced by an increase in the cohesive energy density. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ring‐opening metathesis copolymerizations of cyclooctene and the polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) monomer 1‐[2‐(5‐norbornen‐2‐yl)ethyl]‐3,5,7,9,11,13,15‐heptacyclopentylpentacyclo[9.5.1.13,9.15,15.17,13] octasiloxane (POSS–norbornylene) were performed with Grubbs's catalyst, RuCl2(?CHPh)(PCy3)2. Random copolymers were formed and fully characterized with POSS loadings as high as 55 wt %. Diimide reduction of these copolymers afforded polyethylene–POSS random copolymers. Thermogravimetric analysis of the polyethylene–POSS copolymers under air showed a 70 °C improvement, relative to a polyethylene control sample of similar molecular weight, in the onset of decomposition temperature based on 5% mass loss. The homopolymer of POSS–norbornylene was also synthesized. This polymer had a rigid backbone according to 1H NMR evidence of broad olefinic signals. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Various ladder‐like structured poly(phenyl‐co‐methacryl silsesquioxane)s (LPMSQ)s with high molecular weight (Mw = 10,000 ~ 40,000) were synthesized by direct hydrolysis and polymerization in the presence of base catalyst at 25 °C. Synthesized LPMSQs mainly showed ladder‐like structure and photo‐cure reaction by 100 mW/cm2 (360 nm) for 10 s without any photo‐cure initiators. Chemical composition and structural analysis of the obtained LPMSQs were characterized using 1H NMR, 29Si NMR, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). Physical properties of LPMSQs before and after photcuring were analyzed by Nanoindentation. Surface modulus increased to 8GPa and hardness of thin films increased from 100 to 400 MPa. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part A: Polym Chem, 2011  相似文献

The miscibility of a phenolic resin with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) hybrids and the specific interactions between them were investigated with Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD). An analysis of the morphology and microstructure was performed with polarized optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The interassociation equilibrium constant between the phenolic resin and POSS (38.7) was lower than the self‐association equilibrium constant of pure phenolic (52.3) according to the Painter–Coleman association model. This result indicated that POSS was partially miscible with the phenolic resin. A polarized optical microscopy image of a phenolic/POSS hybrid material (20 wt % POSS) indicated that the crystals of POSS were arranged evenly in the phenolic matrix; the self‐assembled array of POSS crystals was also confirmed by AFM. This phenomenon was consistent with the FTIR spectroscopy and WAXD analyses. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 42: 1127–1136, 2004  相似文献

3‐Acryloxypropylhepta(3,3,3‐trifluoropropyl) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was synthesized and used as a modifier to improve the thermal response rates of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel. The radical copolymerization among N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM), the POSS macromer and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide was performed to prepare the POSS‐containing PNIPAM cross‐linked networks. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the POSS‐containing PNIPAM networks displayed the enhanced glass transition temperatures (Tg's) and improved thermal stability when compared with plain PNIPAM network. The POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels exhibited temperature‐responsive behavior as the plain PNIPAM hydrogels. It is noted that with the moderate contents of POSS, the POSS‐containing PNIPAM hydrogels displayed much faster response rates in terms of swelling, deswelling, and re‐swelling experiments than plain PNIPAM hydrogel. The improved thermoresponsive properties of hydrogels have been interpreted on the basis of the formation of the specific microphase‐separated morphology in the hydrogels, that is, the POSS structural units in the hybrid hydrogels were self‐assembled into the highly hydrophobic nanodomains, which behave as the microporogens and promote the contact of PNIPAM chains and water. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of novel organic–inorganic copolymers with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) in the main chains were synthesized via the copper‐catalyzed Huisgen 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition polymerization approach. Toward this end, we synthesized 3,13‐azidopropyloctaphenyl double‐decked silsesquioxane (DDSQ). This difunctional POSS macromer was used to copolymerize with α,ω‐dialkynyl‐terminated oligoethylenes with variable number of ethylene units. The organic–inorganic copolymers were obtained with the mass fraction of POSS up to 79%. Gel permeation chromatography showed that the high‐molecular‐weight copolymers were successfully obtained in all the cases. Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the amplitude of glass transitions for these copolymers was very feeble, suggesting that the segmental motions responsible for the glass transitions was highly restricted with DDSQ cages in the main chains. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that the organic–inorganic hybrid copolymers displayed extremely high thermal stability. Contact angle measurements showed that these organic–inorganic copolymers are highly hydrophobic and possessed very low surface energy. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Poly[isobutyl methacrylate‐co‐butanediol dimethacrylate‐co‐3‐methacrylylpropylheptaisobutyl‐T8‐polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane] [P(iBMA‐co‐BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS)] nanocomposites with different crosslink densities and different polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MA‐POSS) percentages (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 wt %) were synthesized by radical‐initiated terpolymerization. Linear [P(iBMA‐co‐MA‐POSS)] copolymers were also prepared. The viscoelastic properties and morphologies were studied by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, confocal microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The viscoelastic properties depended on the crosslink density. The dependence of viscoelastic properties on MA‐POSS content at a low BDMA loading (1 wt %) was similar to that of linear P(iBMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) copolymers. P(iBMA‐co‐1 wt % BDMA‐co‐10 wt % MA‐POSS) exhibited the highest dynamic storage modulus (E′) values in the rubbery region of this series. The 30 wt % MA‐POSS nanocomposites with 1 wt % BDMA exhibited the lowest E′. However, the E′ values in the rubbery region for P(iBMA‐co‐3 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites with 15 and 30 wt % MA‐POSS were higher than those of the parent P(iBMA‐co‐3 wt % BDMA) resin. MA‐POSS raised the E′ values of all P(iBMA‐co‐ 5 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites in the rubbery region above those of P(iBMA‐co‐5 wt % BDMA), but MA‐POSS loadings < 15 wt % had little influence on glass‐transition temperatures (Tg's) and slightly reduced Tg values with 20 or 30 wt % POSS. Heating history had little influence on viscoelastic properties. No POSS aggregates were observed for the P(iBMA‐co‐1 wt % BDMA‐co‐MA‐POSS) nanocomposites by TEM. POSS‐rich particles with diameters of several micrometers were present in the nanocomposites with 3 or 5 wt % BDMA. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report on a new strategy for fabricating well‐defined POSS‐based polymeric materials with and without solvent by frontal polymerization (FP) at ambient pressure. First, we functionalize polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI). With these functionalized POSS‐containing isocyanate groups, POSS can be easily incorporated into a poly(N‐methylolacrylamide) (PNMA) matrix via FP in situ. Constant velocity FP is observed without significant bulk polymerization. The morphology and thermal properties of POSS‐based hybrid polymers prepared via FP are comparatively investigated on the basis of scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Results show that the as‐prepared POSS‐based polymeric materials exhibit a higher glass transition temperature than that of pure PNMA, ascribing to modified POSS well‐dispersed in these hybrid polymers. Also, the products with different microstructures display different thermal properties. The pure PNMA exhibits a featureless morphology, whereas a hierarchical morphology is obtained for the POSS‐based polymeric materials. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aminopropylisobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was used to prepare a POSS‐containing reversible addition‐fragmentation transfer (RAFT) agent. The POSS‐containing RAFT agent was used in the RAFT polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) to produce tadpole‐shaped organic/inorganic hybrid Poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). The results show that the POSS‐containing RAFT agent was an effective chain transfer agent in the RAFT polymerization of NIPAM, and the polymerization kinetics were found to be pseudo‐first‐order behavior. The thermal properties of the organic/inorganic hybrid PNIPAM were also characterized by differential scanning calorimetry. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the tadpole‐shaped inorganic/organic hybrid PNIPAM was enhanced by POSS molecule. The self‐assembly behavior of the tadpole‐shaped inorganic/organic hybrid PNIPAM was investigated by atomic force microscopy and dynamic light scattering. The results show the core‐shell nanostructured micelles with a uniform diameter. The diameter of the micelle increases with the molecular weight of the hybrid PNIPAM. Surprisingly, the micelle of the tadpole‐shaped inorganic/organic hybrid PNIPAM with low molecular weight has a much bigger and more compact core than that with high molecular weight. © Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane hybrid temperature and pH double‐responsive hydrogels with organic–inorganic co‐crosslinked networks are synthesized by in situ, free‐radical polymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide and dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate in the presence of both organic crosslinker N,N′‐methylenebis(acrylamide) (BIS) and inorganic crosslinker octavinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (OvPOSS) in tetrahydrofuran media. The resulting hydrogels (OR‐OvP gels) display obvious temperature and pH double responsiveness, OvPOSS particles dispersed in polymer make a dominant effect on the properties of gels. With the increase of OvPOSS, the aggregation of particles on nano‐ or microscale happens and causes a considerable change on the properties of gels, such as the lower critical solution temperature and better compression strength. Specially, the interconnected microporous structure of gels ascribed to the microphase separation results in faster deswelling rate, which makes the gel become attractive. Besides, the crosslink by BIS intensifies the heterogeneity of gels significantly, which could also be used to adjust the properties of gels. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Magnetic carboxyl‐coated silica iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4@SiO2‐COOH NPs) were successfully synthesized, characterized, and then applied as a nano‐adsorbent for removal of malachite green (MG) from aqueous solutions. According to the experimental results, about 97.5% of MG could be removed from aqueous solutions using an adsorbent amount of 0.5 g/L at pH = 9 in 120 min. The kinetics and equilibrium adsorptions is well‐described by the pseudo‐second‐order kinetics and Langmuir model with the maximum absorption capacity of 263.16 mg/g, respectively. Thermodynamic studies showed that the adsorption of the hazardous MG dye was spontaneous and endothermic with a random process.  相似文献

Liquid‐crystalline (LC) hybrid polymers with functionalized silsesquioxanes with various proportions of LC monomer were synthesized by the reaction of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) macromonomer with methacrylate monomer having an LC moiety under common free‐radical conditions. The obtained LC hybrid polymers were soluble in common solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, toluene, and chloroform, and their structures were characterized with Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, and 29Si NMR. The thermal stability of the hybrid polymers was increased with an increasing ratio of POSS moieties as the inorganic part. Because of the steric hindrance caused by the bulkiness of the POSS macromonomer, the number‐average molecular weight of the hybrid polymers gradually decreased as the molar percentage of POSS in the feed increased. Their liquid crystallinities were very dependent on the POSS segments of the hybrid polymers behaving as hard, compact components. The hybrid polymer with 90 mol % LC moiety (Cube‐LC90) showed liquid crystallinity, larger glass‐transition temperatures, and better stability with respect to the LC homopolymer. The results of differential scanning calorimetry and optical polarizing microscopy showed that Cube‐LC90 had a smectic‐mesophase‐like fine‐grained texture. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Organic/inorganic hybrid amphiphilic block copolymer poly(methacrylate isobutyl POSS)‐b‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide‐co‐oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (PMAPOSS‐b‐P(NIPAM‐co‐OEGMA)) was synthesized via reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer polymerization. The self‐assembly behavior of this block copolymer in aqueous solution was investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and transmission electron microscopy. The results indicate that the novel block copolymer can self‐assemble into spherical micelles with PMAPOSS segment as the hydrophobic part and P(NIPAM‐co‐OEGMA) segment as the hydrophilic part. The temperature‐responsive characteristics of the assemblies were tested by UV–Vis spectra and DLS. Some factors such as the concentration, molecular weight, and copolymer generation that may affect the cloud point were studied systematically. The results reveal that this copolymer exhibits a sharp and intensive lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The essentially predetermined LCST can be conveniently achieved by adjusting the content of NIPAM or OEGMA domain. In addition, these novel hybrid micelles can undergo an association/disassociation cycle with the heating and cooling of solution and the degree of reversibility displaying a tremendous concentration dependence, as a novel organic/inorganic hybrid material with distinctive virtues can be potentially used in biological and medical fields, especially in drug nanocarriers for targeted therapy. Polysiloxane diblock copolymers containing a pure polysiloxane backbone were prepared by the functionalization of poly(dimethylsiloxane)‐b‐poly(methylvinylsiloxane) copolymers. The copolymers were obtained by the sequential anionic copolymerization of either 1,3,5,7‐tetramethyl‐1,3,5,7‐tetravinylcyclotetrasiloxane or 1,3,5‐trimethyl‐1,3,5‐trivinylcyclotrisiloxane with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane. The two vinyl monomers showed large differences in the propagation rates, but both could be used for the formation of polysiloxane block copolymers. Differences in the polymerization sequences were investigated and revealed that better control was obtained if the slower propagating monomer was polymerized first. The method permitted the synthesis of block copolymers with molecular weight distributions around 1.4 and lower and high block purities. The vinyl groups of the block copolymers were quantitatively and selectively functionalized by hydrosilation or epoxidation reactions. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) particles are one of the smallest organosilica nano‐cage structures with high multifunctionality that show both organic and inorganic properties. Until now poly(POSS) structures have been synthesized from beginning with a methacryl‐POSS monomer in free‐radical mechanism with batch‐wise methods that use sacrificial templates or additional multisteps. This study introduces a novel one‐pot synthesis inside a continuous flow, double temperature zone microfluidic reactor where the methodology is based on dispersion polymerization. As a result, spherical monodisperse POSS microparticles were obtained and characterized to determine their morphology, surface chemical structure, and thermal behavior by SEM, FTIR, and TGA, respectively. These results were also compared and reported with the outcomes of batch‐wise synthesis. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2019, 57, 1396–1403  相似文献

A microporous polymer is prepared by a catalyst‐free Diels–Alder reaction. A cyclopentadiene with both a diene and a dienophile functionality and a dienophilic maleimide are used for the Diels–Alder reaction. 1,3,5‐Tris(bromomethyl)‐2,4,6‐trimethylbenzene is reacted with sodium cyclopentadienide to produce the multicyclopentadiene‐functionalized monomer. A crosslinked polymer ( CDAP ) is obtained by the reaction of the cyclopentadiene monomer with N,N′‐1,4‐phenylenedimaleimide. The thermal dissociation of the cyclopentadiene dimeric unit and the subsequent Diels–Alder reaction with the maleimide group are investigated by the model reaction. We are able to restructure the crosslinked polymer network by taking advantage of the thermal reversibility of the Diels–Alder linkage. After the post thermal treatment, the BET surface area of the polymer ( CDAP‐T ) is greatly increased from 317 to 1038 m2 g?1. CDAP‐T is functionalized with pyrene by bromination with N‐bromosuccinimide and the subsequent substitution reaction with aminopyrene. The adsorption property of the pyrene‐functionalized polymer for an aromatic dye is investigated using malachite green. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. An organic‐silica hybrid monolith was prepared by a single‐step ring‐opening polymerization of octaglycidyldimethylsilyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS‐epoxy), polyethylenimine (PEI), and β‐cyclodextrin (β‐CD) in a ternary porogenic solvent consisting of polyethylene glycol, 1,4‐butanediol, and 1‐propanol. The framework of POSS‐PEI hybrid monolith could offer well‐defined 3D skeleton, while β‐CD with the ability of forming a host‐guest inclusion complexes with a variety of compounds could show an ability of specific selection. The obtained hybrid monoliths were successfully applied for separation of phenols, benzoic acids, and nucleobases. Especially due to the introduction of β‐CD, positional isomers including hydroquinone and resorcinol, o‐nitrophenol and p‐nitrophenol, as well as p‐chlorophenol and o‐chlorophenol were baseline separated and the column efficiency reached 82 300 plates/m for hydroquinone.  相似文献

A series of copoly(aryl ether sulfone)s containing double‐decker‐shaped silsesquioxane (DDSQ) in the main chain was prepared. Toward this end, a novel diphenol polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane macromer was synthesized by hydrosilylation between 3,13‐dihydro octaphenyl double‐decker silsesquioxane (denoted dihydro DDSQ) and eugenol. The poly(aryl ether sulfone)s were synthesized from diphenol DDSQ, bisphenol A (BPA), and 4‐fluorophenyl sulfone using a one‐step high‐temperature solution method. By adjusting the ratio of diphenol DDSQ to BPA, copolymers with variable DDSQ content in the main chains were obtained. With increased DDSQ content in the main chain, the glass transition temperature decreased based on differential scanning calorimetry, and anti‐degradation was enhanced based on thermogravimetric analysis. Moreover, the dielectric constant κ of pure polymer (3.19 at 1 MHz) initially increased to 4.04 (DDSQ molar ratio = 10%), and then decreased to 2.68 at 1 MHz (DDSQ molar ratio = 100%). Crystallization behavior, solubility, and surface hydrophobicity were also investigated. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part A: Polym. Chem. 2014 , 52, 780–788  相似文献
