Experimental 103Rh NMR chemical shifts of mono- and binuclear rhodium(I) complexes containing s- or as-hydroindacenide and indacenediide bridging ligands with different ancillary ligands (1,5-cyclooctadiene, ethylene, carbonyl) are presented. A protocol, based on density functional theory calculations, was established to determine 103Rh NMR shielding constants in order to rationalise the effects of electronic and structural variations on the spectroscopic signal, and to gain insight into the efficiency of this computational method when applied to organometallic systems. Scalar and spin-orbit relativistic effects based on the ZORA (zeroth order regular approximation) level have been taken into account and discussed. A good agreement was found for model compounds over a wide range of chemical shifts of rhodium (approximately 10,000 ppm). This allowed us to discuss the experimental and calculated delta(103Rh) in larger complexes and to relate it to their electronic structure.  相似文献

The (183)W nuclear shielding in a variety of tungsten polyoxometalates (POM) (Lindqvist, Anderson, decatungstates, Keggin) of different shapes and charges has been modeled by DFT calculations that take into account relativistic effects, by means of the zero-order regular approximation (ZORA), and solvent effects, by the conductor-like screening model (COSMO) continuum method. The charge/surface area ratio (q/A) is proposed as an indicator of the charge density to which the solvation energies of all POMs are correlated in a satisfactory way. Among the various theoretical levels tested (ZORA scalar or spin-orbit, frozen-core or all-electron basis set, geometry optimization in the gas phase or in the continuum solvent, etc.), the best results are obtained when both geometry optimization in solvent and spin-orbit shielding are included (mean absolute error of delta=35 ppm). The quality of the computed chemical shifts depends systematically on the charge density as expressed by q/A; thus, POMs with low q/A ratios display the best agreement with experimental data. The performance of the method is such that computed values can aid the assignment of the (183)W NMR spectra of polyoxotungstates, as shown by the case of alpha-[PW(11)TiO(40)](5-), whose six signals are ranked computationally so as to almost reproduce the experimental ordering even though the signals are spaced by as little as 5 ppm.  相似文献

An empirical method to account for van der Waals interactions in practical calculations with the density functional theory (termed DFT-D) is tested for a wide variety of molecular complexes. As in previous schemes, the dispersive energy is described by damped interatomic potentials of the form C6R(-6). The use of pure, gradient-corrected density functionals (BLYP and PBE), together with the resolution-of-the-identity (RI) approximation for the Coulomb operator, allows very efficient computations for large systems. Opposed to previous work, extended AO basis sets of polarized TZV or QZV quality are employed, which reduces the basis set superposition error to a negligible extend. By using a global scaling factor for the atomic C6 coefficients, the functional dependence of the results could be strongly reduced. The "double counting" of correlation effects for strongly bound complexes is found to be insignificant if steep damping functions are employed. The method is applied to a total of 29 complexes of atoms and small molecules (Ne, CH4, NH3, H2O, CH3F, N2, F2, formic acid, ethene, and ethine) with each other and with benzene, to benzene, naphthalene, pyrene, and coronene dimers, the naphthalene trimer, coronene. H2O and four H-bonded and stacked DNA base pairs (AT and GC). In almost all cases, very good agreement with reliable theoretical or experimental results for binding energies and intermolecular distances is obtained. For stacked aromatic systems and the important base pairs, the DFT-D-BLYP model seems to be even superior to standard MP2 treatments that systematically overbind. The good results obtained suggest the approach as a practical tool to describe the properties of many important van der Waals systems in chemistry. Furthermore, the DFT-D data may either be used to calibrate much simpler (e.g., force-field) potentials or the optimized structures can be used as input for more accurate ab initio calculations of the interaction energies.  相似文献

An overview is given on recent advances of density functional theory (DFT) as applied to the calculation of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts and electron spin resonance (ESR) g-tensors. This is a new research area that has seen tremendous progress and success recently; we try to present some of these developments. DFT accounts for correlation effects efficiently. Therefore, it is the only first-principle method that can handle NMR calculations on large systems like transition-metal complexes. Relativistic effects become important for heavier element compounds; here we show how they can be accounted for. The ESR g-tensor is related conceptually to the NMR shielding, and results of g-tensor calculations are presented. DFT has been very successful in its application to magnetic properties, for metal complexes in particular. However, there are still certain shortcomings and limitations, e.g., in the exchange-correlation functional, that are discussed as well. We present a systematic density functional investigation on the prediction of the 13C, 15N, 17O, and 19F NMR properties of 23 molecules with 21 density functionals. Extensive comparisons are made for both 13C magnetic shieldings and chemical shifts with respect to the gas phase experimental data and the best CCSD(T) results. We find that the OPBE and OPW91 exchange-correlation functionals perform significantly better than some popular functionals such as B3LYP and PBE1PBE, even surpassing, in many cases, the standard wavefunction-based method MP2. Further analysis has been performed to explore the individual role played by various exchange and correlation functionals. We find that the B88 and PBE exchange functionals have a too strong tendency of deshielding, leading to too deshielded magnetic shielding constants; whereas the OPTX exchange functional performs remarkably well. We claim that the main source of error arises from the exchange functional, but correlation functional also makes important contribution. We find that the correlation functionals may be grouped into two classes. class A, such as LYP and B98, leads to deshielded NMR values, deteriorating the overall performance; whereas class B, such as PW91 and PBE, generally increases the absolute shieldings, which complements the exchange functionals, leading to improved results in the calculation of NMR data.  相似文献

We have investigated the stepwise addition of four growing methyl methacrylate (MMA) radicals to C60 fullerene, taking into account all possible types of the formed adducts. This reaction set is a reliable approximation for understanding the MMA polymerization process in the presence of C60 fullerene. We have analyzed the structures of the fullerene-MMA adducts and energy parameters of their formation (heat effects and activation enthalpies). We found that up to three MMA growing radicals are favorably attached to C60 as the fullerene-MMA trisadduct is a stable radical of the allyl type. It is inactive for further radical addition, and the elimination of the hydrogen atom from the growing MMA radical becomes preferable. The effects of steric factors and structures of the products of multiple growing MMA radical additions to C60 on the radical polymerization of MMA in the presence of C60 fullerene are considered.  相似文献

Fifty‐two samples of substituted benzylideneanilines XPhCH?NPhYs (XBAYs) were synthesized, and their NMR spectra were determined in this paper. Together with the NMR data of other 77 samples of XBAYs quoted from literatures, the 1H NMR chemical shifts (δH(CH?N)) and 13C NMR chemical shifts (δC(CH?N)) of the CH?N bridging group were investigated for total of 129 samples of XBAYs. The result shows that the δH(CH?N) and δC(CH?N) have no distinctive linear relationship, which is contrary to the theoretical thought that declared the δH(CH?N) values would increase as the δC(CH?N) values increase. With the in‐depth analysis, we found that the effects of σF and σR of X/Y group on the δH(CH?N) and the δC(CH?N) are opposite; the effects of the substituent specific cross‐interaction effect between X and Y (Δσ2) on the δH(CH?N) and the δC(CH?N) are different; the contributions of parameters in the regression equations of the δH(CH?N) and the δC(CH?N) [Eqns 4 and 7), respectively] also have an obvious difference. The dependency of amino acid chemical shifts on φ and ψ torsion angle is, independently, studied using a five‐residue fragment of ubiquitin and ONIOM(DFT:HF) approach. The variation of absolute deviation of 13Cα chemical shifts relative to φ dihedral angle is specifically dependent on secondary structure of protein not on amino acid type and fragment sequence. This dependency is observed neither on any of 13Cβ, and 1Hα chemical shifts nor on the variation of absolute deviation of 13Cα chemical shifts relative to ψ dihedral angle. The 13Cα absolute deviation chemical shifts (ADCC) plots are found as a suitable and simple tool to predict secondary structure of protein with no requirement of highly accurate calculations, priori knowledge of protein structure and structural refinement. Comparison of Full‐DFT and ONIOM(DFT:HF) approaches illustrates that the trend of 13Cα ADCC plots are independent of computational method but not of basis set valence shell type. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A series of Pd and Pt chloride complexes with pyridine (py), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), of general formulae trans-/cis-[M(py)2Cl2], [M(py)4]Cl2, trans-/cis-[M(py)2Cl4], [M(bpy)Cl2], [M(bpy)Cl4], [M(phen)Cl2], [M(phen)Cl4], where M = Pd, Pt, was studied by 1H, 195Pt, and 15N NMR. The 90-140 ppm low-frequency 15N coordination shifts are discussed in terms of such structural features of the complexes as the type of platinide metal, oxidation state, coordination sphere geometry and the type of ligand. The results of quantum-chemical NMR calculations were compared with the experimental 15N coordination shifts, well reproducing their magnitude and correlation with the molecular structure.  相似文献

Recently, the synthesis and the NMR characterization of a series of eight alloxan-based thiosemicarbazones and semicarbazones were reported. These compounds exhibit a strongly hydrogenbonded hydrazinic proton that is a part of a characteristic six-membered ring. This proton is highly deshielded and resonates far downfield in the proton NMR spectra. In this report, mPW1PW91/6-31+G(d,p) calculations have been used to investigate the structure and other molecular properties of this series of eight compounds. The relationship between the 1H and 13C NMR chemical shifts and various geometric parameters was investigated, and linear relationships for proton peaks that are involved in hydrogen-bond interactions were found.  相似文献

Au(III), Co(III) and Rh(III) chloride complexes with pyridine (py), 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) of the general formulae [M1LCl3], trans-[M2L4Cl2]+, mer-[M2L3Cl3], [M1(LL)Cl2]+, cis-[M2(LL)2Cl2]+, where M1=Au; M2=Co, Rh; L=py; LL=bpy, phen, were studied by 1H--13C HMBC and 1H--15N HMQC/HSQC. The 1H, 13C and 15N coordination shifts (the latter from ca-78 to ca-107 ppm) are discussed in relation to the type of metal, electron configuration, coordination sphere geometry and the type of ligand. The 13C and 15N chemical shifts were also calculated by quantum-chemical NMR methods, which reproduced well the experimental tendencies concerning the coordination sphere geometry and the ligand type.  相似文献

Analytic Hessians are often viewed as essential for the calculation of accurate harmonic frequencies, but the implementation of analytic second derivatives is nontrivial and solution of the requisite coupled‐perturbed equations engenders a sizable memory footprint for large systems, given that these equations are not required for energy and gradient calculations in density functional theory. Here, we benchmark the alternative approach to harmonic frequencies based on finite differences of analytic first derivatives, a procedure that is amenable to large‐scale parallelization. Not only for absolute frequencies but also for isotopic and conformer‐dependent frequency shifts in flexible molecules, we find that the finite‐difference approach exhibits mean errors < 0.1 cm−1 as compared to results based on an analytic Hessian. For very small frequencies corresponding to nonbonded vibrations in noncovalent complexes (for which the harmonic approximation is questionable anyway), the finite‐difference error can be larger, but even in these cases the errors can be reduced below 0.1 cm−1 by judicious choice of the displacement step size and a higher‐order finite‐difference approach. The surprising accuracy and robustness of the finite‐difference results suggests that availability of the analytic Hessian is not so important in today's era of commodity processors that are readily available in large numbers. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Neutral Ni(II) complexes have been shown to be highly valuable as robust and versatile catalysts in olefin polymerization. But they show reduced reactivity when the polar monomers methyl acrylate and vinyl acetate are incorporated. To get further insight into this behavior, NMR chemical shift calculations were performed on the system [(N,O) Ni (H) (PMe3)] 1 (N,O = ‐N,O‐{2,6‐(3,5‐(F3C)2C6H3)2C6H3) NC(H)‐3,5‐I2‐2‐O‐C6H2}). The chemical shifts show reasonable agreement with experiment but are also extremely influenced by geometrical features of the complex as well as the inserted substrate. The first prominent feature, the low‐field shift of the Ccarbonyl in the incorporated monomer, can only be reproduced when it is in close proximity to the Ni and in this way hinders the attack of a new monomer. Second, the almost 100 ppm difference in the chemical shift of the carbon of the two substrates directly bound to Ni can be reasoned by the different directionality of polarization as disclosed by natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Calculation of NMR chemical shifts and coupling constants using quantum mechanical calculations [density functional theory (DFT)], has become a very popular tool for the determination of conformation and the assignment of stereochemistry within a molecule. We present the scaling factors (linear regression parameters) from 10 DFT methods for 10 commonly used NMR solvents using the same set of reference compounds. The results were compared with the corresponding gas‐phase calculations to assess the inclusion of the polarizable continuum model for solvent effects. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

1H, 13C, and 15N NMR studies of platinide(II) (M=Pd, Pt) chloride complexes with quinolines (L=quinoline-quin, or isoquinoline-isoquin; LL=2,2'-biquinoline-bquin), having the general formulae trans-/cis-[ML2Cl2] and [M(LL)Cl2], were performed and the respective chemical shifts (delta1H, delta13C, delta15N) reported. 1H coordination shifts of various signs and magnitudes (Delta1Hcoord=delta1Hcomplex-delta1Hligand) are discussed in relation to the changes of diamagnetic contribution to the relevant 1H shielding constants. The comparison to the literature data for similar complexes containing auxiliary ligands other than chlorides exhibited a large dependence of delta1H parameters on electron density variations and ring-current effects (inductive and anisotropic phenomena). The influence of deviations from planarity, concerning either MN2Cl2 chromophores or azine ring systems, revealed by the known X-ray structures of [Pd(bquin)Cl2] and [Pt(bquin)Cl2], is discussed in respect to 1H NMR spectra. 15N coordination shifts (Delta15Ncoord=delta15Ncomplex-delta15Nligand) of ca. 78-100 ppm (to lower frequency) are attributed mainly to the decrease of the absolute value of paramagnetic contribution in the relevant 15N shielding constants, this phenomenon being noticeably dependent on the type of a platinide metal and coordination sphere geometry. The absolute magnitude of Delta15Ncoord parameter increased by ca 15 ppm upon Pd(II)-->Pt(II) replacement but decreased by ca. 15 ppm following trans-->cis transition. Experimental 1H, 13C, 15N NMR chemical shifts are compared to those quantum-chemically calculated by B3LYP/LanL2DZ+6-31G**//B3LYP/LanL2DZ+6-31G*, both in vacuo and in CHCl3 or DMF solution.  相似文献

1H, 13C and 15N NMR studies of gold(III), palladium(II) and platinum(II) chloride complexes with picolines, [Au(PIC)Cl3], trans‐[Pd(PIC)2Cl2], trans/cis‐[Pt(PIC)2Cl2] and [Pt(PIC)4]Cl2, were performed. After complexation, the 1H and 13C signals were shifted to higher frequency, whereas the 15N ones to lower (by ca 80–110 ppm), with respect to the free ligands. The 15N shielding phenomenon was enhanced in the series [Au(PIC)Cl3] < trans‐[Pd(PIC)2Cl2] < cis‐[Pt(PIC)2Cl2] < trans‐[Pt(PIC)2Cl2]; it increased following the Pd(II) → Pt(II) replacement, but decreased upon the transcis‐transition. High‐quality solid‐state 17O (I=5/2) NMR spectra can be successfully obtained for paramagnetic coordination compounds in which oxygen atoms are directly bonded to the paramagnetic metal centers. For complexes containing VIII (S=1), CuII (S=1/2), and MnIII (S=2) metal centers, the 17O isotropic paramagnetic shifts were found to span a range of more than 10 000 ppm. In several cases, high‐resolution 17O NMR spectra were recorded under very fast magic‐angle spinning (MAS) conditions at 21.1 T. Quantum‐chemical computations using density functional theory (DFT) qualitatively reproduced the experimental 17O hyperfine shift tensors.  相似文献

DFT/B3LYP calculations of the ground-state conformation of eight cyclic and acyclic acetals are presented and compared with experimental data. Results of single-point GIAO/DFT calculations at five different levels of theory show that isotropic shieldings need to be empirically scaled to achieve agreement with experimental chemical shifts. Statistical evaluation of data indicates that the most accurate prediction of 13C chemical shifts is achieved at the MPW1PW91/6-311G** level of theory. An empirical equation describing the relationship between delta values and shielding constants is postulated. This equation has been applied to the non-chair ground-state conformation of the six-membered acetonide and to the conformationally flexible benzodioxonine derivative. The agreement observed between the experimental and predicted chemical shifts shows that calculations at the MPW1PW91/6-311G** level of theory are adequate for addressing questions of conformation.  相似文献
