We show that a two-dimensional (2D) array of 1D interacting boson tubes has a deconfinement transition between a 1D Mott insulator and a 3D superfluid for commensurate fillings and a dimensional crossover for the incommensurate case. We determine the phase diagram and excitations of this system and discuss the consequences for Bose condensates loaded in 2D optical lattices.  相似文献

We consider localised states in a discrete bistable Allen-Cahn equation. This model equation combines bistability and local cell-to-cell coupling in the simplest possible way. The existence of stable localised states is made possible by pinning to the underlying lattice; they do not exist in the equivalent continuum equation. In particular we address the existence of ‘isolas’: closed curves of solutions in the bifurcation diagram. Isolas appear for some non-periodic boundary conditions in one spatial dimension but seem to appear generically in two dimensions. We point out how features of the bifurcation diagram in 1D help to explain some (unintuitive) features of the bifurcation diagram in 2D.  相似文献

In quasi-one-dimensional(q1D) quantum antiferromagnets, the complicated interplay of intrachain and interchain exchange couplings may give rise to rich phenomena. Motivated by recent progress on field-induced phase transitions in the q1D antiferromagnetic(AFM) compound YbAlO_3, we study the phase diagram of spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains with Ising anisotropic interchain couplings under a longitudinal magnetic field via large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, and investigate the role of the spin anisotropy of the interchain coupling on the ground state of the system. We find that the Ising anisotropy of the interchain coupling can significantly enhance the longitudinal spin correlations and drive the system to an incommensurate AFM phase at intermediate magnetic fields, which is understood as a longitudinal spin density wave(LSDW). With increasing field, the ground state changes to a canted AFM order with transverse spin correlations. We further provide a global phase diagram showing how the competition between the LSDW and the canted AFM states is tuned by the Ising anisotropy of the interchain coupling.

We have investigated the ground state phase diagram of the 1D AF spin- Heisenberg model with the staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction in an external uniform magnetic field H. We have used the exact diagonalization technique. In the absence of the uniform magnetic field (H=0), we have shown that the DM interaction induces a staggered chiral phase. The staggered chiral phase remains stable even in the presence of the uniform magnetic field. We have identified that the ground state phase diagram consists of four Luttinger liquid, staggered chiral, spin-flop, and ferromagnetic phases.  相似文献

We study the full temperature and chemical potential dependence of the D3/D5 2+12+1-dimensional theory in the presence of a magnetic field. The theory displays separate transitions associated with chiral symmetry breaking and melting of the bound states. We display the phase diagram which has areas with first and second order transitions meeting at two critical points similar to that of the D3/D7 system. In addition there is the recently reported BKT transition at zero temperature leading to distinct structure at low temperatures.  相似文献

We investigate a two-species Fermi gas in which one species is confined in a two-dimensional plane (2D) or one-dimensional line (1D) while the other is free in the three-dimensional space (3D). We discuss the realization of such a system with the interspecies interaction tuned to resonance. When the mass ratio is in the range 0.0351相似文献

We calculate the zero-temperature (T=0) phase diagram of a polarized two-component Fermi gas in an array of weakly coupled parallel one-dimensional (1D) "tubes" produced by a two-dimensional optical lattice. Increasing the lattice strength drives a crossover from three-dimensional (3D) to 1D behavior, stabilizing the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) modulated superfluid phase. We argue that the most promising regime for observing the FFLO phase is in the quasi-1D regime, where the atomic motion is largely 1D but there is weak tunneling in the other directions that stabilizes long-range order. In the FFLO phase, we describe a phase transition where the quasiparticle spectrum changes from gapless near the 3D regime to gapped in quasi-1D.  相似文献

We construct a statistical model of crystal melting to count BPS bound states of D0 and D2 branes on a single D6 brane wrapping an arbitrary toric Calabi-Yau threefold. The three-dimensional crystalline structure is determined by the quiver diagram and the brane tiling which characterize the low energy effective theory of D branes. The crystal is composed of atoms of different colors, each of which corresponds to a node of the quiver diagram, and the chemical bond is dictated by the arrows of the quiver diagram. BPS states are constructed by removing atoms from the crystal. This generalizes the earlier results on the BPS state counting to an arbitrary non-compact toric Calabi-Yau manifold. We point out that a proper understanding of the relation between the topological string theory and the crystal melting involves the wall crossing in the Donaldson-Thomas theory.  相似文献

We study the phase diagram of a one-dimensional, two-component (i.e., pseudo-"spin"-(1/2)) ultracold atomic Fermi gas. The two atom species can have different hopping or mass. A very rich phase diagram for equal densities of the species is found, containing Mott insulators and superfluids. We also discuss coupling such 1D systems and the experimental signatures of the phases. In particular, we compute the spin-structure factor at small momentum, which should reveal a spin gap.  相似文献

Exploration of the QCD phase diagram and critical point is one of the main goals in current relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The QCD critical point is expected to belong to a three-dimensional (3D) Ising universality class. Machine learning techniques are found to be powerful in distinguishing different phases of matter and provide a new way to study the phase diagram. We investigate phase transitions in the 3D cubic Ising model using supervised learning methods. It is found that a 3D convolutional neural network can be trained to effectively predict physical quantities in different spin configurations. With a uniform neural network architecture, it can encode phases of matter and identify both second- and first-order phase transitions. The important features that discriminate different phases in the classification processes are investigated. These findings can help study and understand QCD phase transitions in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.  相似文献

We report in this paper our calculations of the energies of the satellite and hypersatellite lines in the x-ray and Auger spectra of neon, using screened hydrogenic wavefunctions. Our calculations have enabled us to draw an energy level diagram for the neon atom in various defect-electron configurations. It is possible to show the transitions giving rise to the various x-ray and Auger satellites and hypersatellites using this diagram. The authors felicitate Prof. D S Kothari on his eightieth birthday and dedicate this paper to him on this occasion  相似文献

We propose an experiment to obtain the phase diagram of the fermionic Hubbard model, for any dimensionality, using cold atoms in optical lattices. It is based on measuring the total energy for a sequence of trap profiles. It combines finite-size scaling with an additional "finite-curvature scaling" necessary to reach the homogeneous limit. We illustrate its viability in the 1D case, simulating experimental data in the Bethe-ansatz local-density approximation. Including experimental errors, the filling corresponding to the Mott transition can be determined with better than 3% accuracy.  相似文献

We present a measurement of time-dependent CP asymmetries and an updated determination of the CP-odd fraction in the decay B0-->D(*+)D(*-) using a data sample of 88x10(6)BB pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory at SLAC. We determine the CP-odd fraction to be 0.063+/-0.055(stat)+/-0.009(syst). The time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters Im(lambda(+)) and /lambda(+)/ are determined to be 0.05+/-0.29(stat)+/-0.10(syst) and 0.75+/-0.19(stat)+/-0.02(syst), respectively. The standard model predicts these parameters to be -sin(2beta and 1, respectively, in the absence of penguin diagram contributions.  相似文献

By using Density Matrix Renormalization Group (DMRG) technique we study the phase diagram of 1D extended anisotropic Heisenberg model with ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor and antiferromagnetic next-nearest-neighbor interactions. We analyze the static correlation functions for the spin operators both in- and out-of-plane and classify the zero-temperature phases by the range of their correlations. On clusters of 64, 100, 200, 300 sites with open boundary conditions we isolate the boundary effects and make finite-size scaling of our results. Apart from the ferromagnetic phase, we identify two gapless spin-fluid phases and two ones with massive excitations. Based on our phase diagram and on estimates for the coupling constants known from literature, we classify the ground states of several edge-sharing materials.  相似文献

We investigate the incompletely saturated ferromagnetic phase which occurs at strong-coupling in the partially-filled one-dimensional (1D) Kondo lattice model. The double-exchange interaction responsible for the ferromagnetic ordering is absent in dilute Kondo systems, and is a missing element in nearly all theoretical treatments of the model. We discuss how: 1) double-exchange arises in the system, even though the Kondo coupling is antiferromagnetic, and show that at strong-coupling it favors an alignment of the spins of unpaired localized moments; and 2) how this determines the ground-state phase diagram, and properties of the localized moments.  相似文献

We study S=1 kagome antiferromagnets with an isotropic Heisenberg exchange J and strong easy-axis single-ion anisotropy D. For D>J, the low-energy physics can be described by an effective S=1/2 XXZ model with antiferromagnetic Jz approximately J and ferromagnetic J perpendicular approximately J2/D. Exploiting this connection, we argue that nontrivial ordering into a "spin-nematic" occurs whenever D dominates over J, and discuss its experimental signatures. We also study a magnetic field induced transition to a magnetization plateau state at magnetization 1/3 which breaks lattice translation symmetry due to ordering of the Sz and occupies a lobe in the B/Jz-Jz/J perpendicular phase diagram.  相似文献

We discuss the regimes of quantum degeneracy in a trapped 1D gas and obtain the diagram of states. Three regimes have been identified: the Bose-Einstein condensation (BEC) regimes of a true condensate and quasicondensate, and the regime of a trapped Tonks gas (gas of impenetrable bosons). The presence of a sharp crossover to the BEC regime requires extremely small interaction between particles. We discuss how to distinguish between true and quasicondensates in phase coherence experiments.  相似文献

We investigate behavior of a noncritical model in external electric field and explore its phase structure in the quenched approximation Nf?Nc. We compute the conductivity of QCD plasma in this model and compare it with the predictions of Sakai-Sugimoto model, D3-D7 system and lattice simulations. We find that, while the behavior of conductivity in noncritical model as a function of temperature and baryon density is similar to those of D3-D7 system, the phase diagram of noncritical model resembles the phase diagram of Sakai-Sugimoto model.  相似文献
