The Kondo lattice model, augmented by a Zeeman term, serves as a useful model of a Kondo insulator in an applied magnetic field. A variational mean field analysis of this system on a square lattice, backed up by quantum Monte Carlo calculations, reveals an interesting separation of magnetic field scales. For Zeeman energy comparable to the Kondo energy, the spin gap closes and the system develops transverse staggered magnetic order. The charge gap, however, remains robust up to a higher hybridization energy scale, at which point the canted antiferromagnetism is exponentially suppressed and the system crosses over to a nearly metallic regime. Quantum Monte Carlo simulations support this mean field scenario. An interesting rearrangement of spectral weight with magnetic field is found.  相似文献

We use the dynamical cluster approximation, with a quantum Monte Carlo cluster solver on clusters of up to 16 orbitals, to investigate the evolution of the Fermi surface across the magnetic order-disorder transition in the two-dimensional doped Kondo lattice model. In the paramagnetic phase, we observe the generic hybridized heavy-fermion band structure with large Luttinger volume. In the antiferromagnetic phase, the heavy-fermion band drops below the Fermi surface giving way to hole pockets centered around k=(pi/2,pi/2) and equivalent points. In this phase Kondo screening does not break down, but the topology of the resulting Fermi surface is that of a spin-density wave approximation in which the localized spins are frozen.  相似文献

The spectrum of Fermi excitations of a nondegenerate ferromagnetic semiconductor at T=0 with one electron present is investigated in order to describe the electronic structure of manganites with inclusion of strong electron correlations within the Anderson periodic model with s-d exchange interaction. Exact dispersion relations and the Green functions for different spin projections are found. The density-of-states function is calculated for different positions of the d level relative to the band bottom.  相似文献

We develop a theory for a generic instability of a Fermi liquid in dimension d>1 against the formation of a Luttinger-liquid-like state. The density of states at the Fermi level is the order parameter for the ensuing quantum phase transition, which is driven by the effective interaction strength. A scaling theory in conjunction with an effective field theory for clean electrons is used to obtain the critical behavior of observables. In the Fermi-liquid phase the order-parameter susceptibility, which is measurable by tunneling, is predicted to diverge for 1相似文献

It has been shown that the strong coupling model taking into account a rise in the spin antiferromagnetic insulating state explains the doping dependence of the topology and shape of the Fermi contour of superconducting cuprates. Hole pockets with shadow bands in the second Brillouin zone form the Fermi contour with perfect ordinary and mirror nesting, which ensures the coexistence of orbital antiferromagnetism and superconductivity with a large pair momentum for T < TC. The weak pseudogap region (T* < T < T*) corresponds to the orbital antiferromagnetic ordering, which coexists with the incoherent state of superconducting pairs with large momenta in the strong pseudogap region (TC < T < T*).  相似文献

We show that the motion of a single hole in the infinite-U Hubbard model with frustrated hopping leads to weak metallic antiferromagnetism of kinetic origin. An intimate relationship is demonstrated between the simplest versions of this problem in one and two dimensions, and two of the most subtle many body problems, namely, the Heisenberg Bethe ring in one dimension and the two-dimensional triangular lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet.  相似文献

The exact solution to the hierarchy of nonlinear lattice Boltzmann (LB) kinetic equations in the stationary planar Couette flow is found at nonvanishing Knudsen numbers. A new method of solving LB kinetic equations which combines the method of moments with boundary conditions for populations enables us to derive closed-form solutions for all higher-order moments. A convergence of results suggests that the LB hierarchy with larger velocity sets is the novel way to approximate kinetic theory.  相似文献

We report the first numerical identification of a locally quantum critical point at which the criticality of the local Kondo physics is embedded in that associated with a magnetic ordering. We are able to numerically access the quantum critical behavior by focusing on a Kondo-lattice model with Ising anisotropy. We also establish that the critical exponent for the q-dependent dynamical spin susceptibility is fractional and compares well with the experimental value for heavy fermions.  相似文献

Shubnikov-de Haas oscillations reveal at high fields an abrupt reconstruction of the Fermi surface within the hidden-order (HO) phase of URu2Si2. Taken together with reported Hall effect results, this implies an increase in the effective carrier density and suggests that the field suppression of the HO state is ultimately related to destabilizing a gap in the spectrum of itinerant quasiparticles. While hydrostatic pressure favors antiferromagnetism in detriment to the HO state, it has a modest effect on the complex H-T phase diagram. Instead of phase separation between HO and antiferromagnetism our observations indicate adiabatic continuity between both orderings with field and pressure changing their relative weight.  相似文献

The exact solution of the Thomas–Fermi equation for a planar accumulation layer of a degenerate semiconductor is presented. The obtained results are compared with theoretical literature data. The applicability of the solution is demonstrated by using results of electrochemical capacitance–voltage measurements and photoluminescence data for n‐InN epilayers. It has been found that the difference between the electron concentrations estimated from the Hall and photoluminescence measurements is a measure of the electron content in the accumulation layer with acceptable accuracy. The Hubbard model is investigated for a halffilled honeycomb lattice, using a variational method. Two trial wave functions are introduced, the Gutzwiller wave function, well suited for describing the “metallic” phase at small U and a complementary wave function for the insulating regime at large values of U. The comparison of the two variational ground states at the mean-field level yields a Mott transition at U c /t ≈ 5:3. In addition, a variational Monte Carlo calculation is performed in order to locate the instability of the “metallic” wave function with respect to antiferromagnetism. The critical value U m/t ≈ 3:7 obtained in this way is considered to be a lower bound for the true critical point for antiferromagnetism, whereas there are good arguments that the mean-field value U c/t ≈ 5:3 represents an upper bound for the Mott transition. Therefore the “metal”- insulator transition for the honeycomb lattice may indeed be simultaneously driven by the antiferromagnetic instability and the Mott phenomenon.  相似文献

We investigate the competition between magnetic order and local Kondo effect in a Kondo lattice model (i.e. the Coqblin-Schrieffer Hamiltonian extended to a lattice) in a mean-field approximation, taking account of the spin-orbit degeneracy of each localized f level. This leads to the definition of a dependent Kondo temperature. We study the Kondo phase and compare its energy with the energies of magnetic phases, when the number of the conduction band electron per site is near one. We present a phase diagram which shows the occurrence of three phases: Kondo, antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases. Our model in the mean-field approximation also shows a somewhat flat Kondo temperature, for large values of , as a function of the exchange coupling J between conduction and localized f electrons. Finally we show some scaling effects between and J and we define a corresponding Kondo temperature. Received 21 September 1998 and Received in final form 8 February 1999  相似文献

The highest superconducting temperature Tc observed in any elemental metal (Li with Tc approximately 18-20 K at pressure 35-48 GPa) is shown to arise from increasingly strong electron-phonon coupling concentrated along intersections of Kohn anomaly surfaces with the evolving Fermi surface. First-principles linear response calculations of the phonon spectrum and spectral function alpha2F(omega) reveal very strong Q- and phonon-polarization dependence of coupling strength, resulting in values of in the observed range. The sharp momentum dependence of the coupling even for the simple Li Fermi surface indicates more generally that a fine Q mesh is required for precise evaluation of lamda.  相似文献

The anti-ferromagnetic spin-1/2 Ising model on the pure Husimi lattice with three sites in the elementary polygon (p=3p=3) and the coordination number z=4z=4 is investigated. It represents the simplest approximation of the anti-ferromagnetic Ising model on the two-dimensional kagome lattice which takes into account effects of frustration. The exact analytical solution of the model is found and discussed. It is proven that the model does not exhibit the first order as well as the second order phase transitions. A detailed analysis of the magnetization properties is performed and the existence of the magnetization plateaus for low temperatures is shown. All possible ground states of the model are found and discussed.  相似文献

We study the deconfined quantum critical point of the Kondo-Heisenberg lattice in three dimensions using a fermionic representation for the localized spins. The mean-field phase diagram exhibits a zero temperature quantum critical point separating a spin liquid phase where the hybridization vanishes and a Kondo phase where it does not. Two solutions can be stabilized in the Kondo phase: namely, a uniform hybridization when the band masses of the conduction electrons and the spinons have the same sign, and a modulated one when they have opposite sign. For the uniform case, we show that above a very small temperature scale, the critical fluctuations associated with the vanishing hybridization have dynamical exponent z=3, giving rise to a resistivity that has a TlogT behavior. We also find that the specific heat coefficient diverges logarithmically in temperature, as observed in a number of heavy fermion metals.  相似文献
