We present a complete evaluation for J/ψ(ψ') prompt production at the Tevatron and LHC at next-to-leading order in nonrelativistic QCD, including color-singlet, color-octet, and higher charmonia feeddown contributions. The short-distance coefficients of 3P(J)([8]) at next-to-leading order are found to be larger than leading order by more than an order of magnitude but with a minus sign at high transverse momentum p(T). Two new linear combinations of color-octet matrix elements are obtained from the CDF data, and used to predict J/ψ production at the LHC, which agrees with the CMS data. The possibility of (1)S(0)([8]) dominance and the J/ψ polarization puzzle are also discussed.  相似文献

We calculate the cross section of inclusive direct J/ψ hadroproduction at next-to-leading order within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics, including the full relativistic corrections due to the intermediate 1S(0)[8], 3S(1)[8], and 3P(J)[8] color-octet states. We perform a combined fit of the color-octet long-distance matrix elements to the transverse-momentum (p(T)) distributions measured by CDF at the Fermilab Tevatron and H1 at DESY HERA and demonstrate that they also successfully describe the p(T) distributions from PHENIX at BNL RHIC and CMS at the CERN LHC as well as the photon-proton c.m. energy and (with worse agreement) the inelasticity distributions from H1. This provides a first rigorous test of nonrelativistic QCD factorization at next-to-leading order. In all experiments, the color-octet processes are shown to be indispensable.  相似文献

We compute the momentum diffusion coefficient of a heavy quark in a hot QCD plasma, to next-to-leading order in the weak-coupling expansion. Corrections arise at [see formula]; physically they represent interference between overlapping scatterings, as well as soft, electric scale (p approximately gT) gauge field physics, which we treat using the hard thermal loop effective theory. In 3-color, 3-flavor QCD, the momentum diffusion constant of a fundamental representation heavy quark at next-to-leading order is kappa = 16pi/3alpha(s)(2)T(3)(ln1/g(s)+0.07428+1.9026 g(s)). The convergence of the perturbative expansion is poor.  相似文献

We update the theoretical predictions for direct Upsilon(nS) hadroproduction in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. We show that the next-to-leading order corrections in alpha(S) to the color-singlet transition significantly raise the differential cross section at high p(T) and substantially affect the polarization of the Upsilon. Motivated by the remaining gap between the next-to-leading order yield and the cross-section measurements at the Fermilab Tevatron, we evaluate the leading part of the alpha(S)(5) contributions, namely, those coming from Upsilon(nS) associated with three light partons. The differential color-singlet cross section at alpha(S)(5) is in substantial agreement with the data, so that there is no evidence for the need of color-octet contributions. Furthermore, we find that the polarization of the Upsilon(nS) is longitudinal. We also present our predictions for Upsilon(nS) production at the LHC.  相似文献

Measurements of the production of forward high-energy pi(0) mesons from transversely polarized proton collisions at sqrt[s]=200 GeV are reported. The cross section is generally consistent with next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. The analyzing power is small at x(F) below about 0.3, and becomes positive and large at higher x(F), similar to the trend in data at sqrt[s]< or =20 GeV. The analyzing power is in qualitative agreement with perturbative QCD model expectations. This is the first significant spin result seen for particles produced with p(T)>1 GeV/c at a polarized proton collider.  相似文献

We report a new measurement of the pseudorapidity (eta) and transverse-energy ( E(T)) dependence of the inclusive jet production cross section in pp(macro) collisions at square root of s = 1.8 TeV using 95 pb(-1) of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The differential cross section d(2)sigma/(dE(T)d eta) is presented up to eta = 3, significantly extending previous measurements. The results are in good overall agreement with next-to-leading order predictions from QCD and indicate a preference for certain parton distribution functions.  相似文献

This Letter reports a measurement of the cross section of prompt isolated photon pair production in pp collisions at a total energy square root(s)=1.96 TeV using data of 5.36 fb(-1) integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured cross section, differential in basic kinematic variables, is compared with three perturbative QCD predictions, a leading order parton shower calculation and two next-to-leading order calculations. The next-to-leading order calculations reproduce most aspects of the data. By including photon radiation from quarks before and after hard scattering, the parton shower prediction becomes competitive with the next-to-leading order predictions.  相似文献

The inclusive J/psi production in e;{+}e;{-}-->J/psicc at B factories is one of the most challenging open problems in heavy quarkonium physics. The observed cross section of this double-charm production process is larger than existing leading order (LO) QCD predictions by a factor of 5. In the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism, we calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD virtual and real corrections to this process, and find that these corrections can substantially enhance the cross section with a K factor of about 1.8. We further take into account the feeddown contributions from higher charmonium states [mainly the psi(2S) as well as chi_{cJ}] and the two-photon contributions, and find that the discrepancy between theory and experiment can be largely removed.  相似文献

Measurements are presented of diffractive open charm production at HERA. The event topology is given by ep→eXY where the system X contains at least one charmed hadron and is well separated by a large rapidity gap from a leading low-mass proton remnant system Y. Two analysis techniques are used for the cross section measurements. In the first, the charm quark is tagged by the reconstruction of a D(2010) meson. This technique is used in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS) and photoproduction (γp). In the second, a method based on the displacement of tracks from the primary vertex is used to measure the open charm contribution to the inclusive diffractive cross section in DIS. The measurements are compared with next-to-leading order QCD predictions based on diffractive parton density functions previously obtained from a QCD analysis of the inclusive diffractive cross section at H1. A good agreement is observed in the full kinematic regime, which supports the validity of QCD factorization for open charm production in diffractive DIS and γp.  相似文献

The production of dijets with a leading neutron in ep interactions at HERA is calculated in leading order and next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD using a pion-exchange model. Differential cross sections for deep-inelastic scattering and photoproduction are presented as a function of several kinematic variables. By comparing the theoretical predictions for DIS dijets to recent H1 data, the pion flux factor together with the parton distribution functions of the pion is determined. The dijet cross sections in photoproduction show factorization breaking if compared to the H1 photoproduction data. The suppression factor is S=0.48 (0.64) for resolved (global) suppression. We report the results of a computation of the full next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of two bb pairs at the LHC. This calculation at the parton level provides predictions for well separated b jets. The results show that the next-to-leading order corrections lead to an enhancement of the cross section for the central scale choice by roughly 50% with respect to the leading order result. The theoretical uncertainty estimated by variation of the renormalization and factorization scales is strongly reduced by the inclusion of next-to-leading order corrections.  相似文献

We report a new measurement of the cross section for the production of isolated photons with transverse energies ( E(gamma)(T)) above 10 GeV and pseudorapidities |eta|<2.5 in p&pmacr; collisions at sqrt[s] = 1.8 TeV. The results are based on a data sample of 107.6 pb(-1) recorded during 1992-1995 with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The background, predominantly from jets which fragment to neutral mesons, was estimated using the longitudinal shower shape of photon candidates in the calorimeter. The measured cross section is in good agreement with the next-to-leading order QCD calculation for E(gamma)(T) greater, similar36 GeV.  相似文献

Data from e+e- annihilation into hadrons collected by the JADE experiment at centre-of-mass energies between 14 GeV and 44 GeV are used to study the four-jet event production rate as a function of the Durham jet algorithm’s resolution parameter ycut. The four-jet rate is compared to QCD next-to-leading order calculations including resummation of large logarithms in the next-to-leading logarithmic approximation. The strong coupling measured from the four-jet rate is in agreement with the world average.  相似文献

We present a full next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to diphoton production at the hadron colliders in both standard model and ADD model. The invariant mass and rapidity distributions of the diphotons are obtained using a semi-analytical two cut-off phase space slicing method which allows for a successful numerical implementation of various kinematical cuts used in the experiments. The fragmentation photons are systematically removed using smooth-cone-isolation cuts on the photons. The NLO QCD corrections not only stabilise the perturbative predictions but also enhance the production cross section significantly.  相似文献

We consider the cross section for one-particle inclusive production at high transverse momentum in hadronic collisions. We present the all-order resummation formula that controls the logarithmically-enhanced perturbative QCD contributions to the partonic cross section in the threshold region, at fixed rapidity of the observed parton (hadron). The explicit resummation up to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy is supplemented with the computation of the general structure of the near-threshold contributions to the next-to-leading order cross section. This next-to-leading order computation allows us to extract the one-loop hard-virtual amplitude that enters into the resummation formula. This is a necessary ingredient to explicitly extend the soft-gluon resummation beyond the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. These results equally apply to both spin-unpolarized and spin-polarized scattering processes.  相似文献

Dihadron spectra in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are studied within the next-to-leading order perturbative QCD parton model with modified jet fragmentation functions due to jet quenching. High-p(T) back-to-back dihadrons are found to originate mainly from jet pairs produced close and tangential to the surface of the dense matter. However, a substantial fraction also comes from jets produced at the center with finite energy loss. Consequently, high-p(T) dihadron spectra are found to be more sensitive to the initial gluon density than the single hadron spectra that are more dominated by surface emission. A simultaneous chi(2) fit to both the single and dihadron spectra can be achieved within a range of the energy loss parameter E(0)=1.6-2.1 GeV/fm. Because of the flattening of the initial jet production spectra at square root s=5.5 TeV, high p(T) dihadrons are found to be more robust as probes of the dense medium.  相似文献

We present the calculation of scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs production in association with a top-antitop pair to the next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in QCD, interfaced with parton showers according to the MC@NLO formalism. We apply our results to the cases of light and very light Higgs boson production at the LHC, giving results for total rates as well as for sample differential distributions, relevant to the Higgs, to the top quarks, and to their decay products. This work constitutes the first phenomenological application of aMC@NLO, a fully automated approach to complete event generation at NLO in QCD.  相似文献

We calculate direct gaugino pair production at hadron colliders at next-to-leading order of perturbative QCD, resumming simultaneously large logarithms in the small transverse-momentum and threshold regions to next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. Numerical predictions are presented for transverse momentum and invariant mass spectra as well as for total cross sections and compared to results obtained at fixed order and with pure transverse-momentum and threshold resummation. We find that our new results are in general in good agreement with the previous ones, but often even more precise.  相似文献

This Letter presents a measurement of the W+ W- production cross section in sqrt(s) = 7 TeV pp collisions by the ATLAS experiment, using 34 pb(-1) of integrated luminosity produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Selecting events with two isolated leptons, each either an electron or a muon, 8 candidate events are observed with an expected background of 1.7 ± 0.6 events. The measured cross section is 41(-16)(+20)(stat) ± 5(syst)±1(lumi) pb, which is consistent with the standard model prediction of 44 ± 3 pb calculated at next-to-leading order in QCD.  相似文献
