In this research, a two-component sol–gel inorganic–organic hybrid coating was prepared on a cotton fibre surface. An equimolar sol mixture of the precursors 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (SiF) and P,P-diphenyl-N-(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl) phosphinic amide (SiP) was applied to cotton fabric samples using the pad-dry-cure method. The surfaces of the untreated and coated cotton fibres were characterised using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and time-of-flight-secondary ion mass spectrometry. The functional properties of the coated cotton fabric samples were investigated using static contact angle measurements with water and n-hexadecane, the ice-releasing test, antibacterial testing against Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Escherichia coli, thermogravimetric analysis in an air atmosphere, and vertical flammability tests. The results reveal the formation of a nanocomposite two-component inorganic–organic hybrid polymer network that is homogenously distributed over the cotton fibre surface. The presence of the SiP component in the two-component inorganic–organic hybrid coating did not hinder the functional properties imparted by the presence of the SiF component and vice versa, illustrating their compatibility. The cooperative action of the SiF and SiP components in the two-component coating provided the cotton fabric with exceptional multifunctionality, including simultaneous superhydrophobicity and high oleophobicity, passive antibacterial activity, and improved thermo-oxidative stability.  相似文献

Cotton was cationized by exhaustion method using 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CHPTAC) as a cation-generating agent. Adsorption of silver nanoparticles on normal and cationized cotton was studied by exhaustion method at temperatures of 80°C and 100°C. Two exhaustion baths were used, containing nanosilver colloidal solutions stabilized by two different stabilizers and various concentrations of silver nanoparticles. Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra of normal and cationized samples confirmed the existence of quaternary ammonium groups on cationized cellulose fibers. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed that crystallinity of the modified cellulose fibers was decreased. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) images revealed that the surface of the modified cotton was rougher than that of normal cotton. In addition, SEM images showed the presence of silver nanoparticles on the surface of treated fabric samples. The amount of silver particles adsorbed on the fabric samples was determined using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer. Antibacterial tests were performed against Escherichia coli bacteria as an indication of antibacterial effect of samples. Cationized cotton samples adsorbed more silver nanoparticles and then had greater ability to inhibit bacteria.  相似文献

In this study, a novel nanocomposite based on polyaniline/polyvinyl alcohol/Ag (PANI/PVA/Ag) has been successfully synthesized. The chemical reduction method was used to produce Ag nanoparticle colloidal solution from Ag+ ions. The polymerization of aniline occurred in situ for the preparation of polyaniline (PANI) in the presence of ammonium persulfate. With exposure to Ag nanoparticles on the PANI/PVA composite, a new nanocomposite was obtained. The morphology and particle size of the novel nanocomposite was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analyses. According to XRD analysis, the size of nanoparticles was found to be in the range of 10–17 nm. SEM images showed the favored shape of nanoparticles as triangle which is a benign shape for antibacterial analysis. The antibacterial activity of the obtained nanocomposite was also evaluated against Gram positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (Staph. aureus) and Gram negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) using the paper disk diffusion method. The antibacterial study showed that the PANI/PVA composite did not have a very good antibacterial activity but PANI/PVA/Ag nanocomposites were found to be effective against two bacteria.  相似文献

Our study reports greener synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) tethered to the extract of Croton sparsiflorus and in vitro evaluation of UV-protection, antibacterial and anticancer activities. Sophisticated instrumental analytical techniques such as UV–vis spectrophotometer, FT-IR, XRD, FE-SEM, and TEM were employed for the existence and confirmation of the nanoparticles. FT-IR and HPLC analysis were executed in the identification of the plausible functional groups implicated in the reduction of gold ions to AuNPs. UV protection property and antibacterial action of AuNPs-coated cotton fabric were also presented. Moreover, in vitro anticancer evaluation against HepG2 cell line was conducted by MTT assay for Croton sparsiflorus extract derived AuNPs in different concentrations (50 to 150 μg/ml). Thus, the results of this work revealed that greener synthesized AuNPs exhibited good therapeutic applications as UV-protection, antibacterial and anticancer agents.  相似文献

This research work was proposed to study the antimicrobial activity of the silver nanocoated fabric with the purpose of producing good dressing and clothing material. We synthesized simple, ecofriendly, cost‐effective and sustainable silver nanoparticles by using the aqueous extract of Allium cepa L. Here, A. cepa L. acts as a good reducing and capping agent that produced stable silver nanoparticles having particle size of range 36 ± 1 to 98 ± 2 nm, Poly dispersiblity index 0.234 ± 0.61 to 1.023 ± 0.33 and Zeta potential ‐12 ± 1.5 mV to ‐26 ± 1.2 mV. The effect of temperature and extract volume used was considered for optimization of synthetic procedure. The nanocoated fabric was characterized for morphological study, size (using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE‐SEM) and zeta‐potential (Zeta Potentiometer). The presence of functional groups were observed by using attenuated total reflection‐Fourier transform infrared (ATR‐FTIR) and Raman spectroscopy. The crystallinity and structural property of the synthesized silver nanoparticles were studied in terms of Powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD). An IC50 value and zone of inhibition was studied which demonstrate that the silver nanocoated fabric have an excellent antibacterial property against Gram‐negative (Escherichia coli) and Gram‐positive (Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. Further nanocoated fabric material was washed (with function of time 0, 10, 25, and 50 laundry cycles) and still retained their anti‐bacterial activity towards both strain. Initially there was 52 μg/ml of silver nanoparticles on the cotton fabric but after 50 laundry cycle in 500 ml of distilled water the fabric showed 92% efficiency against gram positive and 90% efficacy toward gram negative bacteria. It was found that 4.16 μg/ml nano particles leached in case of S. Aureus and 5.2 μg/mL silver nanoparticles leached in case of E. coli. Nanocoated fabric material synthesized using green synthesis was found to be economical with good resistance to washing.  相似文献

This research aimed to enhance the antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized from silver nitrate (AgNO3) using aloe vera extract. It was performed by means of incorporating AgNPs on an activated carbon nanoparticle (ACNPs) under ultrasonic agitation (40 kHz, 2 × 50 watt) for 30 min in an aqueous colloidal medium. The successful AgNPs synthesis was clarified with both Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometers. The successful AgNPs–ACNPs incorporation and its particle size analysis was performed using Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). The brown color suspension generation and UV-Vis’s spectra maximum wavelength at around 480 nm confirmed the existence of AgNPs. The particle sizes of the produced AgNPs were about 5 to 10 nm in the majority number, which collectively surrounded the aloe vera extract secondary metabolites formed core-shell like nanostructure of 8.20 ± 2.05 nm in average size, while ACNPs themselves were about 20.10 ± 1.52 nm in average size formed particles cluster, and 48.00 ± 8.37 nm in average size as stacking of other particles. The antibacterial activity of the synthesized AgNPs and AgNPs-immobilized ACNPs was 57.58% and 63.64%, respectively (for E. coli); 61.25%, and 93.49%, respectively (for S. aureus). In addition, when the AgNPs-immobilized ACNPs material was coated on the cotton and polyester fabrics, the antibacterial activity of the materials changed, becoming 19.23% (cotton; E. coli), 31.73% (polyester; E. coli), 13.36% (cotton; S. aureus), 21.15% (polyester; S. aureus).  相似文献

This study addresses the need for antibacterial medication that can overcome the current problems of antibiotics. It does so by suggesting two 1,8-naphthalimides (NI1 and NI2) containing a pyridinium nucleus become attached to the imide-nitrogen atom via a methylene spacer. Those fluorescent derivatives are covalently bonded to the surface of a chloroacetyl-chloride-modified cotton fabric. The iodometric method was used to study the generation of singlet oxygen (1O2) by irradiation of KI in the presence of monomeric 1,8-naphthalimides and the dyed textile material. Both compounds generated reactive singlet oxygen, and their activity was preserved even after they were deposited onto the cotton fabric. The antibacterial activity of NI1 and NI2 in solution and after their covalent bonding to the cotton fabric was investigated. In vitro tests were performed against the model gram-positive bacteria B. cereus and gram-negative P. aeruginosa bacteria in dark and under light iradiation. Compound NI2 showed higher antibacterial activity than compound NI1. The light irradiation enhanced the antimicrobial activity of the compounds, with a better effect achieved against B. cereus.  相似文献

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from silver nitrate solution are carried out using the flower extract of Calotropis gigantea. Silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV–vis spectrophotometer, X-Ray diffractometer (XRD). Reduction of silver ions in the aqueous solution of silver during the reaction was observed by UV–vis spectroscopy. Crystalline nature of synthesized silver nanoparticles was studied by XRD pattern, refraction peak using the Scherrer’s equation. Antibacterial activity of the silver nanoparticles was performed by disc diffusion method against Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas putida and Escherichia coli. The antibacterial activity of synthesized silver nanoparticles by flower extract of C. gigantea was found against B. subtilis (10 mm). Synthesised AgNPs has the efficient antibacterial activity against Gram positive bacteria.  相似文献

Syntheses of some new heterocyclic compounds incorporating quinolone moieties were achieved via reaction of 4‐hydroxy‐7‐methoxyquinolin‐2(1H)‐one ( 1 ) or 3‐bromo‐4‐hydroxy‐7‐methoxyquinolin‐2(1H)‐one ( 2 ) with binucleophilic reagents. The newly synthesized compounds were characterized by elemental analyses and spectral data (IR, 1H‐NMR and mass spectra). The newly synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity against Gram‐positive bacteria (Bacillus thuringiensis) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Escherichia coli). The results showed clearly that compounds 1 and 3 are the more potent antibacterial agents against E. coli, compounds 4 , 5 , 6 and 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 exhibited moderate activities against E. coli strain, and compounds 7 and 11 exhibited weak activities compared with Gentamicin as a well known standard drug.  相似文献

In this study, cotton fabrics were finished with Aloe vera gel along with 1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxlic acid as a crosslinking agent using the pad-dry-cure method. The finished fabrics were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The infrared spectra confirmed that the active ingredients of A. vera gel attached to the hydroxyl groups of cotton fabric via a carboxylic acid cross-linking agent. The antibacterial activity of A. vera-finished fabrics was qualitatively evaluated by the AATCC-147 method and scanning electron microscopy. It was observed that A. vera gel-finished fabric has much less bacterial adhesion. The A. vera gel-finished [concentration ≥3 % (w/v)] cotton fabric inhibited the growth of both gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria. The mechanism of cell death by A. vera gel was evaluated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). TEM photographs suggested that the cell death is due to the destruction of the bacterial cell wall. The finished fabric was also evaluated for its performance properties such as tensile strength, crease recovery angle, bending length, etc.  相似文献

Nanocomposite cotton fabrics with in situ-generated silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were prepared by using Pterocarpus santalinus (Red sanders) extract in water as a reducing agent. The formation of AgNPs was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The SEM analysis of nanocomposites showed the presence of spherical AgNPs with a size range of 71–90?nm. FTIR spectra showed the involvement of hydroxyl and methylene groups of cellulose matrix in reducing the silver salt into AgNPs in the presence of red sanders powder extract as reducing agent for the in situ generation of AgNPs. These nanocomposite fabrics exhibited good antibacterial activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria.  相似文献

Four natural chalcones bearing hydroxyisoprenyl or prenyl groups, named Paratocarpin E (2), Xanthoangelol D (3), Angusticornin A (4) and Kanzonol C (5), were prepared by employing the Claisen-Schmidt condensation as the key step. In an attempt to investigate the effect of the hydroxyisoprenyl group on biological activity, two of their derivatives were also prepared for antibacterial activity research. The synthesized compounds were investigated for their expected antibacterial activities against Gram positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus) as well as Gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Paratocarpin E (2) was found to be the most potent against two Gram positive bacteria while the majority of the remaining compounds showed promising activity as well. However, all of the compounds were inactive against both Gram-negative bacteria.  相似文献

The silica–silver core–shell particles were synthesized by simple one pot chemical method and were employed on the cotton fabric as an antibacterial agent. Extremely small (1–2 nm) silver nanoparticles were attached on silica core particles of average 270 nm size. The optimum density of the nano silver particles was found which was sufficient to show good antibacterial activity as well as the suppression in their surface plasmon resonance responsible for the colour of the core–shell particle for antibacterial textile application. The change in the density and size of the particles in the shell were monitored and confirmed by direct evidence of their transmission electron micrographs and by studying surface plasmon resonance characteristics. The colony counting method of antibacterial activity testing showed excellent results and even the least silver containing core–shell particles showed 100% activity against bacterial concentration of 104 colony counting units (cfu). The bonding between core–shell particles and cotton fabric was examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The antibacterial activity test confirmed the firm attachment of core–shell particles to the cotton fabric as a result 10 times washed sample was as good antibacterial as that of unwashed sample. The bacterial growth was inhibited on and beneath the coated fabric, at the same time no zone of inhibition which occurs due to the migration of silver ions into the medium was observed indicating immobilization of silver nanoparticles on silica and core–shell particles on fabric by strong bonding.  相似文献

Inorganic nanocomposites, due to increased stability and safety, are gaining importance in wide range of engineering and medical applications. In view of this, the present study demonstrates the optical and antibacterial activity of core-shell ZnO@TiO2 nanoparticles synthesized via biogenic method using Azadirachta indica flower extract. The synthesized nanocomposite is characterized by XRD, TEM and EDS. The optical activity of the ZnO@TiO2 nanoparticle, assessed by photoluminescence spectra, indicated concentration dependent increase in the number of defects. The antibacterial activity of synthesized core-shell ZnO@TiO2 nanoparticles was determined by agar disc diffusion method against 9 clinical isolates (Gram positive - S. aureus, S. pneumonia, B. subtilis and Gram negative - E. coli, S. dysenteriae, K. pneumonia, V. cholera, P. aeruginosa, and P. vulgaris). The synthesized nanoparticle exhibited significant antibacterial activity against all the strains tested. The synthesized core-shell ZnO@TiO2 nanoparticle can be a potential antimicrobial candidate for various biomedical applications.  相似文献

A superhydrophobic cotton textile with high antibacterial properties has been fabricated. The cotton textile was coated through the in situ growth of ZnO‐SiO2 nanoparticles in presence of chitosan as the template agent via a hydrothermal process at 95 °C. This process was followed by the coating of additional layers of hexadecyltrimethoxysilane (HDTMS). The obtained cotton textile showed antibacterial property against Staphylococcus epidermis and Escherichia coli with inhibition zones up to 18.26 and 8.48 mm, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the coating had a rough surface, which was attributed to the distribution of ZnO‐SiO2 nanorods of hexagonal shape. This rough surface creates a superhydrophobic layer that repels the bacteria, as proven by the large water contact angle of approximately 150°. Nevertheless, the HDTMS layers prolong the durability of hydrophobicity for up to 3 h.  相似文献

A series of mono, tricyclic cyclophane tetraamides and cyclophane sulfonamides have been synthesized and characterized from spectral and XRD studies. All the cyclophane amides form charge transfer (CT) complex with TCNQ. The cyclophane amides show moderate to good anti-inflammatory activity. Some of them were active against Gram positive (Klebsiella pneumonia) and Gram negative (Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus) human pathogens.  相似文献

Some new 2-[5-(aryl)-[1,3,4]oxadiazole-2-ylsulfanyl]alkanoic acids were synthesized and studied for their antibacterial activity. These compounds were prepared from aromatic carboxylic acid hydrazides. Aromatic carboxylic acid hydrazides 1 on refluxing with carbon disulfide and methanolic potassium hydroxide and then on subsequent acidification with hydrochloric acid furnish 5-aryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-thiones 2. 2-Chloro alkanoic acids react with 2 in alkaline media and on acidification yield the title compounds 3. These compounds were characterised by CHN analyses, IR, mass and 1H NMR spectral data. All the compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antibacterial activity against two Gram negative strains (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and two Gram positive strains (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) and their minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) were determined.  相似文献

In this work, copper nanoparticles were in situ generated in cotton fabrics by simple hydrothermal method. These low-cost nanocomposite fabrics were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and antibacterial tests. The presence of spherical nanoparticles was visualized by SEM analysis. FTIR spectra did not show any differences between the peak positions of cotton fabrics and their nanocomposites. The crystallinity of cotton nanocomposites was enhanced by the copper nanoparticles. The cotton nanocomposite fabrics exhibited good antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli bacteria and hence can be considered for medical applications such as wound dressing, surgical aprons, hospital bed materials, etc.  相似文献

In attempt to search for more potent antimicrobial agents, a series of 7‐nitro‐1‐(piperidin‐4‐yl)‐4,5‐dihydro‐[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3‐a]quinoline‐derived sulphonamides were synthesized. Their structures were established by elemental analyses, IR, and NMR (1H and 13C) spectral data. The antibacterial activity of the obtained compounds was investigated against different Gram‐negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram‐positive (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria and antifungal activity against two fungal strains (Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus clavatus) using disk diffusion method at various concentrations (20, 40, 60, and 80 μg/mL). The study reveals that most of the title compounds showed significant antibacterial and fungal activity when compared with their respective standards streptomycin and griseofulvin.  相似文献

In the current study, gold nanoparticles (AuC6NPs and AuC8NPs) were prepared through sodium borohydride reduction method by using Calix[6]rene and Calix[8]rene as a stabilizing agents. The synthesized AuNPs were screened for cytotoxic, phytotoxic, antifungal and antibacterial activities. The fabricated AuNPs were characterized by UV–visible spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM) and FTIR spectroscopy. Antibacterial activities of the AuNPs were tested against E. coli and S. aureus. The AuC6NPs were found to be effective against the growth of gram positive bacteria and inhibited the growth of S. aureus. AuC6NPs interact with bacterial cell and damaged cell membrane. Roughness of the bacterial surface and membrane rupture can be clearly observed by AFM images. The AuNPs possess insignificant antifungal activity against Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans. Moreover, AuC8NPs have significant phytotoxicity and moderate cytotoxicity.  相似文献
