Formation of dust particles and clusters is observed in almost every modern thermonuclear facility. Accumulation of dust in the next generation thermonuclear installations can dramatically affect the plasma parameters and lead to the accumulation of unacceptably large amounts of tritium. Experiments on collection of dust particles by a model of electrostatic probe developed for collection of metallic dust at ITER are described in the article. Experiments on the generation of tungsten dust consisting of flakes formed during the destruction of tungsten layers formed on the walls of the plasma chamber sputtered from the surface of the tungsten target by plasma ions were conducted. The nature of dust degassing at elevated temperatures and the behavior of dust in an electric field were studied. The results obtained are compared with the results of the experiments with dust consisting of crystal particles of simple geometric shapes. The effectiveness of collection of both types of dust using the model of an electrostatic probe is determined.  相似文献

Micron size dust particles were used to diagnose the direction of ion flow in an inertial electrostatic confinement discharge. Particles were dropped onto a one-dimensional device and were shown to deflect away from the center. The deflection of the dust particles was then accounted for by ion drag. It is concluded that ions are created at the cathode center and flow outwards. This supports recent work that has reached the same conclusion using Doppler spectroscopy. Moreover, estimates of the ion density from the deflection of dust particles was in agreement with Langmuir probe measurements.  相似文献

Charged photovoltaic glass produces an electrostatic field. The electrostatic field exerts an electrostatic force on dust particles, thus making more dust particles deposited on the glass. In this paper, the contact electrification between the deposited dust particles and the photovoltaic glass is studied. Meanwhile, the surface charge density model of the photovoltaic glass and the electrostatic force of charged particles are analyzed. The results show that with the increasing of the particle impact speed and the inclination angle of the photovoltaic panel, the charges on particles increase to different degrees.Under a given condition, the electrostatic forces acting on the charged particles at different positions above the glass plate form a bell-shaped distribution at a macro level, and present a maximum value in the center of the plate. As the distance between the particle and the charged glass decreases, the electrostatic force exerted on the particle increases significantly and fluctuates greatly. However, its mean value is still higher than the force caused by gravity and the adhesion force, reported by some studies. Therefore, we suggest that photovoltaic glass panels used in the severe wind-sand environment should be made of an anti-static transparent material, which can lessen the dust particles accumulated on the panels.  相似文献

Methods for moving charged particles in RF processing plasmas are investigated. These methods include varying RF power, varying chamber pressure, attraction and repulsion by an electrostatic probe, and movement with magnetic fields. Varying RF power changes the depth of the potential wells where particles are trapped. The RF power affects shape and location of the traps and the bulk plasma potential. Increasing the chamber pressure moves the sheath edge closer to the wafer being processed. Since particle traps are found at the plasma sheath edge increasing the chamber pressure will move the particle traps (and any trapped particles) closer to the wafer being processed. The Langmuir probe can repel particles when under negative bias and attract them when positively biased. This probe can also distort the sheath edge when the tip resides within the sheath. Applying a magnetic field can change the characteristics of the particle traps and produce a force on the charged dust particles  相似文献

As a preliminary study for the collection of dust particles in an electrostatic precipitator, laser Doppler velocimetry has been used to measure the velocity of small dust particles charged in the high electric field of a model electrostatic precipitator. A differential optical system is adopted for the velocimeter. The period-measuring system is used to analyse Doppler beat signals and to obtain velocity data from them. By means of the laser Doppler velocimeter, the dynamic behaviour of the velocity and direction of moving dust particles is fully revealed as a function of the applied electric voltage in the entire collecting space of the model electrostatic precipitator, and is shown in vectorial flow diagrams of particle velocity.  相似文献

The radial distributions of ions, electrons and dust particles in the positive colum of glow discharges are investigated in a tripled-pole diffusion model. The dust particles are mainly trapped in the region around the column axis where the electrostatic potential is the highest. The presence of the dust particles results in the ion density increasing and the electron density decreasiung in the dust-trapped region. The dust-trapped region is wider for a higher dust temperature or a smaller particulate redius. The ions and electrons in the dust-free region away from the column axis are in ambipolar diffusion.  相似文献

Analytic expressions describing the electrostatic field of a shutter grating are obtained by conformal mapping of a domain containing the shutter grating onto a domain containing a grating of cylindrical rods. These expressions are applicable for optimizing devices used for determining the parameters of charged particle flows and for analyzing the effects associated with focusing of particles to some thermonuclear targets and with the grid confinement of the plasma.  相似文献

The solution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for a cloud of charges surrounding two charged dust particles treated as Debye atoms forming a Debye molecule is investigated numerically using Cassini coordinates. The electric force exerted on a dust particle by the other dust particle was determined by integrating the electrostatic pressure on the surface of the dust particle. It is shown that attractive forces appear when the following two conditions are satisfied. First, the Debye radius (corresponding to the electron density at half the mean distance between the dust particles) must be approximately equal to half the mean distance between the dust particles. Attraction between the dust particles emerges at a distance equal approximately to half the mean distance between the dust particles. Second, attraction takes place when like charges are concentrated predominantly on the dust particles. If the particles carry a small fraction of charge of the same polarity, repulsion between the particles takes place at all distances.  相似文献

The ultrahigh charging of dust particles in a plasma under exposure to an electron beam with an energy up to 25 keV and the formation of a flux of fast ions coming from the plasma and accelerating in the strong field of negatively charged particles are considered. Particles containing tritium or deuterium atoms are considered as targets. The calculated rates of thermonuclear fusion reactions in strongly charged particles under exposure to accelerated plasma ions are presented. The neutron generation rate in reactions with accelerated deuterium and tritium ions has been calculated for these targets. The neutron yield has been calculated when varying the plasma-forming gas pressure, the plasma density, the target diameter, and the beam electron current density. Deuterium and tritium-containing particles are shown to be the most promising plasmaforming gas–target material pair for the creation of a compact gas-discharge neutron source based on the ultrahigh charging of dust particles by beam electrons with an energy up to 25 keV.  相似文献

Two charged dust particles inside a cloud of charges are considered as Debye atoms forming a Debye molecule. Cassini coordinates are used for the numerical solution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation for the charged cloud. The electric force acting on a dust particle by the other dust particle was determined by integrating the electrostatic pressure on the surface of the dust particle. It is shown that attractive forces appear when the following two conditions are satisfied. First, the average distance between dust particles should be approximately equal to two Debye radii. Second, attraction takes place when similar charges are concentrated predominantly on the dust particles. If the particles carry a small fraction of total charge of the same polarity, repulsion between the particles takes place at all distances. We apply our results to the experiments with thermoemission plasma and to the experiments with nuclear-pumped plasma.  相似文献

Examines the dynamics of a collection of charged dust particles in the plasma sheath above a large body in a fully ionized space plasma when the radius of the large body is much larger than the sheath thickness. The dust particles are charged by the plasma, and the forces on the dust particles are assumed to be from the electric field in the sheath and from gravitation only. These forces will often act in opposite directions and may balance, making dust suspension and collection possible. The dust particles are supplied by injection or by electrostatic levitation. The ability of the sheath to collect dust particles, will be optimal for a certain combination of gravitation and plasma and dust particle parameters. In a dense dust sheath, the charges on the dust particles contribute significantly to the total space charge, and collective effects become important. These effects will reduce the magnitude of the sheath electric field strength and the charge on the dust particles. As dust particles are collected, the dust sheath is stretched and the largest dust particles may drop out, because the sheath is no longer able to suspend them. In a tenuous dust sheath, the inner layer, from the surface and about one Debye length thick, will be unstable for dust particle motion, and dust will not collect there. In a dense dust sheath, collective effects will decrease the thickness of this inner dust-free layer, making dust collection closer to the surface possible. By linearization of the force and current equations, the necessary and sufficient conditions for a stable dust sheath are found. The authors consider conditions which resemble those of planetary system bodies, but the results may also be of relevance to some laboratory plasmas  相似文献

The size distribution of dust particles in thermonuclear (fusion) devices is closely described by a power law, which may be related to the brittle destruction of materials. The hypothesis of scale similarity leads to the conclusion that the size distribution of particles formed as a result of a brittle destruction is described by a power law with the exponent ??? that can range from ?4 to ?1. The model of brittle destruction is described in terms of the fractal geometry, and the distribution exponent is expressed via the fractal dimension of packing. Under additional assumptions, it is possible to refine the ?? value and, vice versa, to determine the type of destruction using the measured size distribution of particles.  相似文献

Linearized electrostatic potential of a test charge in a complex (dusty) plasma with ion flow is found. Dust component is treated as a continuous medium. Positions of dust particles are assumed to be fixed (unperturbed by the test charge). Calculations are performed using the static dielectric response function found in the framework of the fluid model. The model includes ion loss and ion creation caused respectively by absorption on dust particles and ionization. Dust charge variations and friction force on ions (ion‐neutral and ion‐dust friction) are also present in the model. The main point of the paper is the potential distribution in the plane containing the test charge and oriented perpendicular to the ion flow. The possibility of the electrostatic attraction of two same sign charges in the plane perpendicular to the ion flow is investigated. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Structural and melting characteristics are investigated for negatively charged dust particles in the presence of a two-dimensional electrostatic parabolic confinement potential. For a restricted number of dust particles that are subject to the permanent flow of electrons and ions, numerical simulation is conducted taking into account the random charge fluctuation. The amplitude of the charge fluctuation affects the ground-state configuration and melting characteristics of a finite number of particles interacting through Coulomb potential. The melting temperature decreases when the amplitude of the charge fluctuation increases as a result of particles' strong repulsive interaction.  相似文献

An investigation of the properties of linear stability is conducted for a system consisting of particles having mass m and charge q, interacting through the gravitational and electrostatic force (Jeans instability). However, in light of recent works showing that dust particles in a plasma can have a Lennard-Jones-like shielding potential, a new set of equations has been derived, where the electrostatic interaction among the dust particles is Lennard-Jones-like instead of Coulomb-like. A new condition for the gravitational instability is derived, showing a broader spectrum of unstable modes with faster growth rates.  相似文献

Dust-free regions around a Langmuir probe are studied in a complex plasma under microgravity. The dust particles settle in the presheath of the probe, where an equilibrium of the electric field force and the ion-drag force is established. The size and shape of the dust cloud are discussed with simple models. A more sophisticated presheath model is solved numerically to analyze the acting forces and the equilibrium position of the dust. The formation of distinct particle layers in the dust shell can be explained by the force gradients of the effective potential well.  相似文献

The problem is considered of the probe diagnostics of a moving, weakly ionized, collision-dominated plasma containing singly charged negative ions or dust grains (heavy multicharged ions). Based on an asymptotic analysis, expressions are obtained that describe the saturation current densities of the electrons and of the charged particles of other species at the point where the plasma flowing around a spherical probe in the laminar boundary layer regime stagnates.  相似文献
